In this research, we develop an airborne equipment radiating S/C-band signal to a target located at a long distance. RF interface of the equipment comprises band-specific transmitters and an broadband antenna to satisfy EIRP(effective isotropic radiated power) requirements. The equipment is in a shape of a POD like an aircraft fuel tank. The measured weight of the equipment is 119.8 kg, the CG(center of gravity) is 1391.35 mm and the MOI(moment of inertia) are 46.07 ± 0.05(Iyy) kg·㎡, 45.36 ± 0.09(Izz) kg·㎡. All results are found to meet the requirements for aircraft installation. To verify flight safety, EMI(electromagnetic interference) tests (RE102, CE102), environmental tests (high/low temperature operation, altitude), intra-system EMC(electromagnetic compatibility) and HERP(hazards electromagnetic radiation personnel) tests have been conducted and all the test results met the requirements. It is confirmed that the equipment could be mounted on the aircraft by meeting all electrical and mechanical requirements.

Spray characteristics for APU gas turbine engine are investigated. In the test, four flight conditions such as sea level idle, sea level max power, 20,000 feet idle, 20,000 feet max power are used as spray experimental conditions. Spray visualization was performed by using ND-YAG laser bean PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) was used for measuring the particle diameter and velocity from 20 mm to 100 mm from discharge orifice. From the test result, SMD is $90{\sim}95\;{\mu}m$ 맛 20,000 ft idle condition and SMD is $60{\sim}75\;{\mu}m$ at sea level idle condition. Also SMD is $55{\sim}65\;{\mu}m$ at 20,000 ft max power condition and SMD is $30{\sim}70\;{\mu}m$ at sea level max power condition. In the case of 20,000 ft idle condition, combustion instability could be occurred due to the higher drop diameter. Therefore it is necessary to decrease the droplet diameter in the high altitude condition.

KSR-III(Korea Sounding Rocket - III), which is being developed by Space Technology R&D Division of KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) will be launched in late 2002. It is a three-stage, liquid propellant rocket which can reach 250 km altitude and will carry out observation of ozone layer and scientific experiments, such as microgravity experiment, and atmospheric measurement. KSR-III is believed to be an intermediate to the launch vehicle capable of carrying a satellite to its orbit. Space Test Department of KARI performed GVT(Ground Vibration Test) fer KSR-III EM at Rocket Test Building of KARI. GVT is very important for predicting the behavior of rocket in its operation, developing flight control program and performing aerodynamic analysis. This paper gives an introduction of rocket GVT configuration and information on test procedures, techniques and results of It. In this test. to simulate free-free condition, test object hung in the air laterally by 4 bungee cords specially devised. For the excitation of test object, pure random signal by two electromagnetic shakers was used and total 22 frequency response functions were achieved. Polyreference parameter estimation was performed to identify the modal parameters with MIMO(Multi-Input-Multi-Output) method. As the result of the test, low frequency mode shapes and modal parameters below 60Hz were identified

Ramjet mode combustion test was performed for a dual-mode ramjet engine model. The engine model consists of an air intake, a combustor and a nozzle. The combustor in the model has a large backward-facing step, designed to be used as a part of a rocket-based combined cycle engine. The test was performed at the flight speed of Mach 5 and the altitude of 24 km. Strong combustion was established only when the fuel was injected from both of the bottom-side and cowl-side wall. When the total fuel stoichiometric ratio was 1.0, distributed as 0.5 on the cowl side and 0.5 on the bottom side, the flow became subsonic at some portion in the combustor by thermal choking, i.e., ramjet mode was established for this condition.

Environmental control system is adopted to control the thermal load from the avionic equipment in the reconnaissance pod which is mounted under a fighter aircraft, undergoing large and rapid environmental changes with the variations of flight altitude and velocity. In this study, an environmental control system was designed and built by adopting vapor compression cycle using R-124. The cooling performance characteristics of the system were measured varying operating parameters: thermal load in the pod, air mass flow rate through evaporator, condenser inlet air temperature, and air mass flow rate through condenser. The effects of the experimental parameters on the system performance were analyzed based on the experimental results. The problems on the designed system were also analyzed and the solutions were suggested to improve system efficiency and to obtain stable operation.

Currently, the wireless network environment of air node is constructed mainly of ground relay station. However, as the Korean Peninsula is composed of 70% mountainous region, there are multiple shadow zones. This is calling for effective measures to prevent aircraft from losing communication link during low-mid altitude missions. In this article we propose the utilization of Bezier Curve for estimation of aircraft flight path and control method for entering shadow zone. This method successfully estimated aircraft track, and analyzed the existence, disseminated the warning, and took measures to avoid the shadow zone before entering. This article, suggested after simulated experiments, proves that the method enables seamless communication during air operations.

In this study, the characteristics of main wind direction, vertical temperature and wind speed profile near the Moseulpo airfield for HALE UAV(High Altitude Long Endurance Unmaned Aerial Vehicle) is investigated. The results are summarized as follows, main wind direction is governed by air mass according to season and local wind such as land-sea breeze. The directions of landing and take-off of HALE UAV will be selected as the south-east direction in June ~ August, north-west direction in October ~ March, and south-east direction at daytime in April ~ May, September. Annual variation of temperature at 100 hPa showed that temperature in summer season is lower than winter season. On the other hands, wind speed at 250 hPa in winter season is higher than summer season. The threshold values of temperature and wind speed for HALE UAV flight are $-75^{\circ}C$ and $90ms^{-1}$, which were determined by 5 % frequency value($1.96{\sigma}$), respectively.

Among various applications of the High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), this paper has a focus on the Global Positioning System (GPS) utilizing pseudolite and its improved performance, particularly during the multi-purpose missions. In a multi-purpose mission, the HALE UAV follows a specified flight trajectory for both navigation applications and missions. Some of the representative HALE missions are remote exploration, surveillance, reconnaissance, and communication relay. During these operations, the HALE UAV can also be an additional positioning signal source as it broadcast signals using pseudolite. The pseudolite signal can improve the availability, accuracy, and reliability of the GPS particularly in areas with poor signal reception, such as shadowed regions between tall buildings. The improvement in performance of navigation is validated through simulations of multi-purpose missions of the solar-powered HALE UAV in an urban canyon. The simulation includes UAV trajectory generation at stratosphere and uses actual geographical building data. The results indicate that the pseudolite-equipped HALE UAV has the potential to enhance the performance of the satellite navigation system in navigationally degraded regions even during multi-purpose operations.
In this study, the uncertainty requirements for orbit, attitude, and burn performance were estimated and analyzed for the execution of the $1^{st}$ lunar orbit insertion (LOI) maneuver of the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) mission. During the early design phase of the system, associate analysis is an essential design factor as the $1^{st}$ LOI maneuver is the largest burn that utilizes the onboard propulsion system; the success of the lunar capture is directly affected by the performance achieved. For the analysis, the spacecraft is assumed to have already approached the periselene with a hyperbolic arrival trajectory around the moon. In addition, diverse arrival conditions and mission constraints were considered, such as varying periselene approach velocity, altitude, and orbital period of the capture orbit after execution of the $1^{st}$ LOI maneuver. The current analysis assumed an impulsive LOI maneuver, and two-body equations of motion were adapted to simplify the problem for a preliminary analysis. Monte Carlo simulations were performed for the statistical analysis to analyze diverse uncertainties that might arise at the moment when the maneuver is executed. As a result, three major requirements were analyzed and estimated for the early design phase. First, the minimum requirements were estimated for the burn performance to be captured around the moon. Second, the requirements for orbit, attitude, and maneuver burn performances were simultaneously estimated and analyzed to maintain the $1^{st}$ elliptical orbit achieved around the moon within the specified orbital period. Finally, the dispersion requirements on the B-plane aiming at target points to meet the target insertion goal were analyzed and can be utilized as reference target guidelines for a mid-course correction (MCC) maneuver during the transfer. More detailed system requirements for the KPLO mission, particularly for the spacecraft bus itself and for the flight dynamics subsystem at the ground control center, are expected to be prepared and established based on the current results, including a contingency trajectory design plan.

The purpose of this study is to assess the condition of composites used in aircraft under varying temperature environment with ultrasound guided wave technique. Investigation of crucial influential factor on the composite health monitoring related to aircraft operational environments such as the number of thermal cycles and temperature deviation between ground level and flight altitude has been of a great concern for aircraft safety issue. In this study, ultrasonic guided wave health monitoring scheme is proposed to evaluate composite specimens damaged with the thermal fatigue simulating aircraft operational condition. Guided wave dispersion curves are used to select right modes which show a promising sensitivity to each different thermal fatigue damage level. The present approach can be also implemented as one of on-lines health monitoring tools for aircraft.
