A theoretical model for flexural behavior of strengthened reinforced concrete beam is developed based on displacement controlled nonlinear finite element method in this study. The developed model is shown to reasonably reproducing the experimental results of variously strengthened reinforced concrete beam. Parametric studies for the strengthened reinforced concrete beam at different loading stages are then performed using this model in order to assess the effect of loading stages at the time of strengthening on characteristic values of strengthened beam under flexure. It was found that depending on loading stages of a beam, deflections at yielding and at ultimate loads are more influenced than corresponding load capacities.
The effect of central axial load on natural frequencies of various thin-walled beams, are investigated by some researchers using different methods such as finite element, transfer matrix and dynamic stiffness matrix methods. However, there are situations that the load will be off centre. This type of loading is called eccentric load. The effect of the eccentricity of axial load on the natural frequencies of asymmetric thin-walled beams is a subject that has not been investigated so far. In this paper, the mentioned effect is studied using exact dynamic stiffness matrix method. Flexure and torsion of the aforesaid thin-walled beam is based on the Bernoulli-Euler and Vlasov theories, respectively. Therefore, the intended thin-walled beam has flexural rigidity, saint-venant torsional rigidity and warping rigidity. In this paper, the Hamilton‟s principle is used for deriving governing partial differential equations of motion and force boundary conditions. Throughout the process, the uniform distribution of mass in the member is accounted for exactly and thus necessitates the solution of a transcendental eigenvalue problem. This is accomplished using the Wittrick-Williams algorithm. Finally, in order to verify the accuracy of the presented theory, the numerical solutions are given and compared with the results that are available in the literature and finite element solutions using ABAQUS software.
There are constraints on truck weight, axle configurations and size imposed by departments of transportation around the globe due to structural capacity limitations of highway pavements and bridges. In spite of that, freight movers demand some vehicles that surpass the maximum size and legal weight limits to use the transportation network. Oversized trucks serve the purpose of spreading the load on the bridge; thus, reducing the load effect on the superstructure. For such vehicles, often a quick structural analysis of the existing bridges along the traveled route is needed to ensure that the structural capacity is not exceeded. For a wide vehicle having wheel gage larger than the standard 1830 mm, the girder distribution factors in the design specifications cannot be directly used to estimate the live load in the supporting girders. In this study, a simple approach that is based on finite element analysis is developed by modifying the AASHTO LRFD's girder distribution factors for slab-on-steel-girder bridges to overcome this problem. The proposed factors allow for determining the oversized vehicle bending moment and shear force effect in the individual girders as a function of the gage width characteristics. Findings of the study showed that the relationship between the girder distribution factor and gage width is more nonlinear in shear than in flexure. The proposed factors yield reasonable results compared with the finite element analysis with adequate level of conservatism.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fracture resistance of the four kinds of dental porcelains for the all-ceramic crown(Vita In-Ceram, Vita Hi-Ceram, IPS-Empress, Vitadur-N) and one kind for the metal-ceramic non(Vita VMK 68) was used as the control group. In order to determine the fracture resistance, the hi-axial flexure strength was measured at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min, and the Vickers hadrness was measured at an indentation load of 1kg for 20 seconds. The results obtained were summarized as follows ; 1. The maximum Weibull modulus of 24.61 for Vitadur-N and the minimum one of 852 for IPS-Empress were observed ; the maximum characteristic strength of 353.26MPa for Vita In-Ceram and the minimum that of 63.20MPa for Vitadur-N were also observed. 2. The maximum mean bi-axial flexure strength of 339.12MPa for Vita In-Ceram and thd minimum one of 61.99MPa for Vitadur-N were calculated. Results of the Scheffe test indicated that the statistically significant difference(P<0.05) existed between Vita In-Ceram or Vita Hi-Ceram and the others ; also between IPS-Empress and Vitadur-N. 3. The maximum mean hardness of $980.55kg/mm^2$ for Vita VMK 68 appeared. Results of the Scheffe test indicated that statistically significant difference(P<0.05) existed between Vita In-Ceram or Vita Hi-Ceram and the others ; also between IPS-Empress and Vita VMK 68.
In the study, three 1:3-scale unequal span steel-concrete composite substructures with top-seat angle and double web angle connection were designed and identified as specimens GTSDWA-0.6, GTSDWA-1.0, and GTSDWA-1.4. Pseudo-static tests and refined numerical model analysis were conducted to examine the anti-progressive collapse performance of a semi-rigid steel-concrete composite substructure. The results indicated that the failure modes of the three specimens revealed that the fracture occurred in the root of the long leg of the top/seat angle in tension at the connection. With increases in the span ratio of the left and right composite beams, the bearing capacities of the composite substructures decreased, and the corresponding displacement increased. With respect to GTSDWA-0.6 and GTSDWA-1.4, the resistance due to the short composite beam corresponded to 62% and 60%, respectively, and the total resistance provided by the short composite beam exceeded that of the long composite beam. With respect to GTSDWA-1.0, the resistance due to the left and right composite beams was similar. All three specimens underwent the flexure mechanism and flexure-axial mixed mechanism stages. They resisted the external load mainly via the flexure mechanism. Moreover, the addition of stiffeners on both sides of the top and seat angles is advantageous in terms of improving the collapse resistance and ductility of unequal span composite substructures.

Optimization of the aircraft panel assembly constructed by skin and stringers is investigated. For the design of panel assembly of the aircraft structure, it is necessary to determine the best shape of the stringer which accomplishes lowest weight under the condition of no instability. A panel assembly can fail in a variety of instability modes under compression. Overall modes of flexure or torsion can occur and these can interact in a combined flexural/torsion mode. Flexure and torsion can occur symmetrically or anti-symmetrically. Local instabilities can also occur. The local instabilities considered in this paper are buckling of the free and attached flanges, the stiffener web and the inter-rivet buckling. A program is developed to find out critical load for each instability mode at the specific stringer shape. Based on the developed program, optimization is performed to find optimum stringer shape. The developed instability analysis program is not adequate for sensitivity analysis, therefore RSM (Response Surface Method) is utilized instead to model weight and instability constraints. Since the problem has many local minimum, Genetic algorithm is utilized to find global optimum.

This study will not only prove experimental dynamic properties which are classified to slump, compressed strength, bending strength and toughness index blast-furnace cement concrete with polypropylene (PP) fiber that refer properties and volume of it, but also establish a basic data in order to use PP fiber reinforced blast-furnace cement concrete. The slump didn't changed by PP fiber volume $5kgf/m^3$ because of flexibility of fiber in despite of loose mixing. The reason why the slump decreased steadily by PP fiber volume $3kgf/m^3$ was rising contact surface of water. The compressed strength indicated a range of 19.49~26.32 MPa. The tensile strength indicated a range of 2.10~2.44 MPa. The bending strength was stronger about 3~16 % in case of mixing with PP fiber volume than normal concrete. The flexure strength indicated a range of 4.30~4.83 MPa. The toughness indicated a range of $0{\sim}19.88N{\cdot}mm$ and was stronger about 6.7 times in case of PP fiber volume $9kg/m^3$ than PP fiber volume $1kg/m^3$. The pavement with PP fiber volume over such a fixed quantity in the roads of a respectable amount load can have a effect to prevent not only resistance against clack but also rip off failures.

The effective reinforcement methods of structure is required to improve the durability of existing structures. Recently, the continuous fiber sheets to the concrete structures are widely used in the earthquake-proof reinforcement method. This study examines suitability and effect to concrete structure of fiber by FEM analysis. The result of analysis is as follows; All specimens occurred bending tensile failure at the middle span. Ultimate strength of specimen in the RC and reinforced RC specimen were 53.9 kN, 56.3 kN respectively and it was some low by degree 0.89, 0.82 to compare with calculated result. The deflection of specimen at the middle span occurred in approximately 0.2 mm, and did linear behavior in load 20 kN by seat reinforcement. Stiffness did not decrease by occurrence in the finer crack and reinforcement beam's flexure stiffness was increased until reach in failure. To compare calculated value and analysis value, it almost equal behavior in the elastic reign and can confirm effectiveness of analysis. Crack was distributed uniformly by reinforcement of fiber seat at failure and it do not occurred stiffness decreases.
The ultimate strength behaviour of sandwich composite beams with J-hooks and normal weight concrete (SCSSBJNs) are studied through two-point loading tests on ten full-scale SCSSBJNs. The test results show that the SCSSBJN with different parameters under two-point loads exhibits three types of failure modes, i.e., flexure, shear, and combined shear and flexure mode. SCSSBJN failed in different failure modes exhibits different load-deflection behaviours, and the main difference of these three types of behaviours exist in their last working stages. The influences of thickness of steel faceplate, shear span ratio, concrete core strength, and spacing of J-hooks on structural behaviours of SCSSBJN are discussed and analysed. These test results show that the failure mode of SCSSBJN was sensitive to the thickness of steel faceplate, shear span ratio, and concrete core strength. Theoretical models are developed to estimate the cracking, yielding, and ultimate bending resistance of SCSSBJN as well as its transverse cross-sectional shear resistance. The validations of predictions by these theoretical models proved that they are capable of estimating strengths of novel SCSSBJNs.

In order to study ultimate flexure behavior of FRP-concrete composite structures which can replace reinforced concrete structures, ABAQUS, a general purpose analysis program, was utilized for numerical nonlinear analysis of structural performance and behavior characteristics of FRP-concrete composite beams. Explicit nonlinear finite element analysis was conducted and the numerical results were compared with previous experiments. Concrete damaged plasticity model was adopted as material properties of concrete and Euro code was used as compressive stress state. Nonlinear analysis was performed for four different types of FRP-concrete composite beams, and ultimate load and cracking pattern was compared and analyzed. The model suggested in this research was able to simulate ultimate load and cracking pattern properly, it is expected to be utilized in study of precise structural and behavioral characteristics of various FRP-concrete composite structures.
