  • This paper deals with a scheduling problem with the objective of maximizing the throughput rate in flexible manufacturing system with shop type. Manufacturing system is consisted of multi-stage in series. All kinds of parts are processed in same in processing time. No buffer space is allowed between stages, and no part waiting is allowed in each stage. Part flow control method for determining the optimal production sequence of all parts and the production starting time of each part is proposed.

  • This paper describes a method which uses rail curves for blending surfaces. Blending surface between the free form surfaces which have the flexible shapes and are widely used today is investigated. The rail curves give blending surface continuty through Pointwise interpola- tion. It is the point in this paper that the blending surfaces give a good flexibility to modeling of base free form surfaces. Using rail curves for simple base surfaces, complicated models can be designed. Also this blending surfaces can be used for path generation in compoud surfaces.

  • This paper presents a scheduling method that uses Petri net modeling and heuristic search to handle the tool setup. In manufacturing systems, a tool is attached to a particular machine to process a particular operation. The activity to attach a tool to a particular machine and detach the tool from the machine requires time. The processing time of operations varies according to the attached tool and the machine used. The method proposed in this paper uses Petri net to model these characteristics and applies a search algorithm to the reachability graph of the Petri net model to generate an optimal or near-optimal schedule. New heuristic functions are developed for efficient search. The experimental results that show the effectiveness of the proposed method are presented.

  • This study presents a new architecture for a field programmable analog array (FPAA) for use in low-frequency applications, and a generalized circuit realization method for the implementation of nth-order elliptic filters. The proposed designs of both the FPAA and elliptic filters are based on the operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) used in implementing OTA-C filters for biopotential signal processing. The proposed FPAA architecture has a flexible, expandable structure with direct connections between configurable analog blocks (CABs) that eliminates the use of switches. The generalized elliptic filter circuit realization provides a simplified, direct synthetic method for an OTA-C symmetric balanced structure for even/odd-nth-order low-pass filters (LPFs) and notch filters with minimum number of components, using grounded capacitors. The filters are mapped on the FPAA, and both architectures are validated with simulations in LTspice using 90-nm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. Both proposed FPAA and filters generalized synthetic method achieve simple, flexible, low-power designs for implementation of biopotential signal processing systems.

  • Marine reduction gears are usually used to increase the propulsion efficiency of propellers for ships powered by medium and small sized high speed diesel engines. Most of shaft systems adopt flexible couplings to absorb the transmitted vibratory torque from the engines to the reduction gears and to prevent the chattering phenomenon of reduction gears. However some elastic couplings show non-linear characteristics due to the variable torque transmitted from the main engines and the change of ambient temperature. In this study dynamic characteristics of flexible couplings sare investigated and their effects upon various vibratory conditions of propulsion systems are clarified. A calculation program of torsional vibration for the propulsion systems are clarified. A calculation program of Results of the program developed are compared with ones of the existing linear method and propulsion systems with the elastic couplings the transfer matrix method is adopted which is found to give satisfied results.

  • A new binder-free $TiO_{2}$ paste was prepared by common ion applying effect, enabling low temperature fabrication required for flexible solar cells. The binder-free and high viscosity $TiO_{2}$ coating solution was produced by adding 7.5% aniline in $TiO_{2}$ colloid solution obtained from the high pressure water-heat response method. The resulting pastes had high level of viscosities proper for optimal coating and thus revealed excellent performances in terms of thickness uniformity and I-V characteristics.

  • A new technique using search method based on fuzzy multi-criteria function is proposed fur flexible generator maintenance scheduling. Minimization of probabilistic production cost, maximization of system reliability level and air pollution are considered fur fuzzy multi-criteria function. To obtain an optimal solution for generator maintenance scheduling under fuzzy environment fuzzy multi-criteria relaxation method(fuzzy search method) is used. The practicality and effectiveness of the proposed approach are demonstrated by the simulation results of the real size model system of KEPCO-1997 SYSTEM.

  • In the present study, we carry out numerical simulations of energy harvesting eel by using the immersed boundary method. Eel is modeled by a flexible filament and is placed behind a circular cylinder. We perform systematic simulations in order to explore the effects of Reynolds number. The instantaneous eel motion is analyzed under different conditions and surrounding vortical structures are identified. The flapping frequency of eel has been compared with that in case of plate alone as well as filament alone. As increasing Reynolds number, we can see that the flexible filament flaps passively by obtaining the Strouhal number of cylinder alone and filament with cylinder.

  • This paper proposes a flexible selection method of feature vectors for speaker identification. In speaker identification, overlapped region between speaker models lowers the accuracy. Recently, a method was proposed which discards overlapped feature vectors without regard to the source causing the overlap. We suggest a new method using both overlapped features among speakers and non-overlapped features to mitigate the overlap effects.
