Over-coating is one of the most popular engineering practices to strengthen Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures, due to the relative quickness and ease of construction. It consists of an external coat bonded to the outer surface of the structural RC element, either by the use of chemical adhesives, mechanical anchor bolts or simply mortar injection. In contrast to these constructive advantages, the numerical estimation of the bearing capacity of the strengthened reinforced concrete element is still complicated, not only for the complexity of modelling a flexible membrane or plate attached to a quasi-rigid solid, but also for the difficulties that raise of simulating any potential delamination between both materials. For these reasons, the standard engineering calculations used in the practice remain very approximated and clumsy. In this work, we propose the formulation of a new 2D solid-layer finite element capable to link a solid body with a flexible thin layer, as it were the "skin" of the body, allowing the potential delamination between both materials. In numerical terms, this "skin" element is intended to work as a transitional region between a solid body (modelled with a classical formulation of a standard quadrilateral four-nodes element) and a flexible coat layer (modelled with cubic beam element), dealing with the incompatibility of Degrees-Of-Freedom between them (two DOF for the solid and three DOF for the beam). The aim of the solid-layer element is to simplify the mesh construction of the strengthened RC element being aware of two aspects: a) to prevent the inappropriate use of very small solid elements to simulate the coat; b) to improve the numerical estimation of the real bearing capacity of the strengthened element when the coat is attached or detached from the solid body.

This study aimed at developing a down jacket prototype that utilized sunlight as an alternative energy source with no air pollution. The jacket is filled with flexible solar panels and has a heat-generating function and LED function. In this study, three smart down jacket prototypes were developed, and the jacket's capabilities were demonstrated through the thermal effect on the performance test. The typical output voltage of the flexible solar panels was 6.4V. By connecting the 2 solar cell modules in series, the final output voltage was 12.8V. A battery charge regulator module was used the KA 7809 (TO-220) of 9V. Three heating pads were to be inserted into the belly of the jacket as direct thermal heating elements, and the LED module was configured, separated by a flash and an indicator. The smart down jacket was designed to prevent damage to the down pack without the individual devices' interfering with the human body's motion. Because this study provides insulation from extreme cold with a purpose, the jacket was tested for heat insulation properties of non-heating, heating on the back, heating on the abdomen, and heating on both the back and abdomen in a sitting posture in a static state. Thermal property analysis results from examining the average skin temperature, core temperature, and the temperature and humidity within clothing showed, that placing a heating element in one place was more effective than distributing the heating elements in different locations. Heating on the back was the most effective for maintaining optimal skin temperature, core temperature, and humidity, whereas heating on the abdomen was not effective for maintaining optimal skin temperature, core temperature, or humidity within clothing because of the gap between the jacket and the body.

Micro light-emitting diodes (LEDs), with a chip size of 100 micrometers or less, have attracted significant attention in flexible displays, augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR), and bio-medical applications as next-generation light sources due to their outstanding electrical, optical, and mechanical performance. In the realm of bio-medical devices, it is crucial to transfer tiny micro LED chips onto desired flexible substrates with low precision errors, high speed, and high yield for practical applications on various parts of the human body, including someone's face and organs. This paper aims to introduce a fabrication process for flexible micro LED devices and propose micro LED transfer techniques for cosmetic and medical applications. Flexible micro LED technology holds promise for treating skin disorders, cancers, and neurological diseases.

Most of Korea's beauty college education focuses on the subject rather than the industrial field of the industrialized world. It is centered on subjects rather than on-site job modules, and training sessions are required for graduation of the training period rather than having flexible configurations. Therefore, the education curriculum and industrial field training are becoming mismatched because of the goal of acquiring a certificate in skin care major subjects. Based on this problem, the researcher made a questionnaire about the certificate utilization of students who are majoring in skin care and 294 students were surveyed. It was found that it had a high degree of utilization to take a job, but that it had below normal level on utilization after entering the industrial field. Based on this analysis result, I propose to review the need to reorganize the skin care curriculum, which is based on the national competency standards (NCS) beginning in 2014. Education experts at the college of skin care should continue to develop a curriculum centered on academic subjects and industrial field curriculum as closely as possible, by focusing on the direction and trend of the industry's branches and industry experts.

We designed, fabricated, and tested the capacitive microsensors for skin piloerection monitoring. The performance of the skin piloerection monitoring sensor was characterized using the artificial bump, representing human skin goosebump; thus, resulting in the sensitivity of $-0.00252%/{\mu}m$ and the nonlinearity of 25.9 % for the artificial goosebump deformation in the range of $0{\sim}326{\mu}m$. We also verified two successive human skin piloerection having 3.5 s duration on the subject's dorsal forearms, thus resulting in the capacitance change of -6.2 fF and -9.2 fF compared to the initial condition, corresponding to the piloerection intensity of $145{\mu}m$ and $194{\mu}m$, respectively. It was demonstrated experimentally that the proposed sensor is capable to measure the human skin piloerection objectively and quantitatively, thereby suggesting the quantitative evaluation method of the qualitative human emotional state for cognitive human-machine interfaces applications.
It has been shown that transparent microemulsion gels of flexibly adjustable viscosity containing less than 10% w/w surfactants can be obtained just by cooling down through a new 1-step preparation procedure (via 4 different in-situ colloidal systems) using PIT-technology with a range of emulsifiers, co-emulsifiers and lipids. They can be used for a wide scope of applications. Specific examples have been given with antiperspirant formulas that proof the stability of these thickened microemulsions even with high content of electrolytes and low pH. We propose that the structure of these microemulsion gels can be described by cross-linking of nano-fine oil droplets via an ABA-triblock copolymer. A new generation of transparent antiperspirant roll-ons with significantly improved skin tolerance can now be formulated as an attractive alternative to alcohol-based products.

In this paper, we fabricated and evaluated polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)-based flexible and implantable micro electrodes. The electrode patterning was carried out with the photolithography and chemical etching process after e-beam evaporation of 100 ATi and 1000 A Au. The PDMS substrate was treated by oxygen plasma using reactive ion etching(RIE) system to improve the adhesiveness of PDMS and metal layers. The minimum line width of fabricated micro electrode was 20 $\mu$m. After finished patterning, we did packaging with PDMS and then brought up the electrode's part about 40 $\mu$m with gold electroplating. The Hank's balanced salt solution(HBSS) test was carried out for 6 month for endurance of fabricated micro electrode. We carried out in-vivo test for the evaluation of biocompatibility by implanting electrodes under the ICR mouse skin for 42 days.

This paper aims to compare the ability to detect notch defects existing in the plate and welded area using a flexible ECA (eddy current array) probe with OmniScan MX and MS-5800E. The characteristics of signals with various frequencies and lift-offs were also compared. As a result, when signals of frequencies 500, 1000, and 1500 kHz were used, the amplitude of the signal increased, as the depth of the notch increased, but reduced linearly in accordance with the lift-off variation. In addition, the detection sensitivity of the weld defect was found to be closely related to the contact surface of the probe and specimen. In this paper, it was demonstrated that the detection sensitivity was excellent when the contact surface of the probe and the specimen was sufficient, but it was poor when the contact surface was insufficient.

The concept of surface has become more relative and more relationship-oriented based upon interaction between spaces as the traditional realm of perception succumbed to that of a more flexible, open perspective. If surface characteristics are consideredas an interface, an interface with individual characteristics will form part of the whole and will become an element in the whole (the environment), manifesting itself as a medium incorporated in an architectural space. This authorintends to understand interface not as a mere intermediary space but as an intervening border that allows exchanges between different environments and as a medium that allows expressions of aesthetic order through organic order. Also, it is the Intention of this author to grasp extended meanings of interface.
