There has been strong demand for novel nonvolatile memory technology for low-cost, large-area, and low-power flexible electronics applications. Resistive memories based on metal oxide thin films have been extensively studied for application as next-generation nonvolatile memory devices. However, although the metal oxide-based resistive memories have several advantages, such as good scalability, low-power consumption, and fast switching speed, their application to large-area flexible substrates has been limited due to their material characteristics and necessity of a high-temperature fabrication process. As a promising nonvolatile memory technology for large-area flexible applications, we present a graphene oxide-based memory that can be easily fabricated using a room temperature spin-casting method on flexible substrates and has reliable memory performance in terms of retention and endurance. The microscopic origin of the bipolar resistive switching behaviour was elucidated and is attributed to rupture and formation of conducting filaments at the top amorphous interface layer formed between the graphene oxide film and the top Al metal electrode, via high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and in situ x-ray photoemission spectroscopy. This work provides an important step for developing understanding of the fundamental physics of bipolar resistive switching in graphene oxide films, for the application to future flexible electronics.

We characterize a flexible self-assembled liquid crystal display (LCD) fabricated from a polyimide (PI) alignment layer with polydimethylsiloxane pixel walls. Ion beam (IB) irradiation aligned LC molecules in the PI layer and bonded two flexible plastic substrates in a one-step assembly of the pixel walls. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy provided chemical and physical evidence for the formation of stable chemical bonds between the PI layer and the PDMS pixel walls in addition to the important maintenance of a uniform 6 um gap between the two substrates without the use of any epoxy resins or other polymers.
Cinnamate group is well-known for the dimerization reaction by ultra-violet irradiation and cinnamate polymers are studied for photo-alignment materials. The cinnamate groups of flexible polymer are found to produce LC alignment parallel to polarization direction of ultra-violet light, which is contrary to the LC orientation on conventional cinnamate polymers. The un-reacted cinnamate groups in the flexible polymer are also found to participate in cycloadducts formation by additional thermal reaction that preserves the orientation of cycloadducts, leading to the enhancement of thermal stability of LC alignment.
We evaluated a-Si:H TFTs fabricated on polyimide substrate (PI) at the highest temperature of $160^{\circ}C$ with uniaxial and tensile strain to imitate flexible display. With tensile strain, the threshold voltage of a-Si:H TFTs have positive shift due to extra dangling bond formation in a-Si:H layer. However, no significant degradation of the subthreshold swing and effective mobility with tensile strain of a-Si:H TFTs indicates the similar level of band tail state. The metal wire with the width of $10\;{\mu}m$ for connection on flexible substrate can sustain with curvature radius 2.5 cm.

The objective of this paper is to present a method for designing robust positioning control systems of a flexible arm using $H_2/H_{\infty}$ and $\mu$ theory. We begin with a description of the flexible arm based on the model identification method and discuss the derivation of the model uncertainty. The validity of the obtained model is confirmed experimentally Next, a robust controller is designed based on the $H_2/H_{\infty}$ and $\mu$ theory by which we can improve robustness of the entire system. On this occasion, we also propose a general plant formation suitable to $H_2/H_{\infty}$ control. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed design method is verified through experimentation.

Polyimides and related polymers, when synthesized from aromatic monomers, have generally rigid chain structures resulting in a low gas permeability. The rigidity of polymer chains reduces the segmental motion of chains and works as a good barrier against gas transport. To overcome the limit of use as materials of gas separation membranes due to low gas permeability, block copolymers with the incorporation of flexible segments like siloxane linkage and ether linkage have been studied. These block copolymers have microphase-separated structures composed of microdomains of flexible poly(dimethylsiloxane) or polyether segments and of rigid polyimides segments. In case of rigid-flexible block copolymers, the characteristics of both phases for gas permeation are of great difference. The permeation of gas molecules occurs favorably through microdomains of flexible segments, whereas those of rigid segments hinder the permeation of gas molecules. Accordingly the increase of content of flexible segments in a rigid polymer matrix will increase the gas permeability of the membrane linearly. However, this prediction does not satisfy enough many experimental results and in particular the drastic increase of the permeability is observed in a certain volume fraction. It was proposed that the gas transport mechanism is dominated by diffusion rather than gas solubility in a certain content of flexible phase if solution-diffusion mechanism is adopted. However, the transition from solubility-dependent to diffusion-dependent cannot be explained by the understanding of mechanism itself. Therefore, we consider an effective chemical path which permeable phase can form in a microheterogenous medium, and percolation concept is introduced to describe the permeability transition at near threshold where for the first time a percolation path occurs. The volume fraction of both phases is defined as V$_{\alpha}$ and V$_{\beta}$ in block copolymers, and the volume of $\beta$ phase in the threshold forming geometrically a traversing channel is defined as V$_{\betac}$. The formation mechanism of shortest chemical channel is schematically depicted in Fig. 1.

Graphene is only one atom thick planar sheet of sp2-bonded carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb crystal lattice, which has flexible and transparent characteristics with extremely high mobility. These noteworthy properties of graphene have given various applicable opportunities as electrode and/or channel for various flexible devices via suitable physical and chemical modifications. In this work, for the development of all-graphene devices, we performed to synthesize alternately patterned structure of mono- and multi-layer graphene by using the patterned Ni film on Cu foil, having much different carbon solid solubilities. Depending on the process temperature, Ni film thickness, introducing occasion of methane and gas ratio of CH4/H2, the thickness and width of the multi-layer graphene were considerably changed, while the formation of monolayer graphene on just Cu foil was not seriously influenced. Based on the alternately patterned structure of mono- and multi-layer graphene as a channel and electrode, respectively, the flexible TFT (thin film transistor) on SiO2/Si substrate was fabricated by simple transfer and O2 plasma etching process, and the I-V characteristics were measured. As comparing the change of resistance for bending radius and the stability for a various number of repeated bending, we could confirm that multi-layer graphene electrode is better than Au/Ti electrode for flexible applications.

Laser-induced plasmonic sintering of metal nanoparticles (NPs) holds significant promise as a technology for producing flexible conducting electrodes. This method offers immediate, straightforward, and scalable manufacturing approaches, eliminating the need for expensive facilities and intricate processes. Nevertheless, the metal NPs come at a high cost due to the intricate synthesis procedures required to ensure long-term reliability in terms of chemical stability and the prevention of NP aggregation. Herein, we induced the self-generation of metal nanoparticles from Ag organometallic ink, and fabricated highly conductive electrodes on flexible substrates through laser-assisted plasmonic annealing. To demonstrate the practicality of the fabricated flexible electrode, it was configured in a mesh pattern, realizing multi-touchable flexible touch screen panel.

Graphene, an allotrope of carbon, is a two-dimensional material having a unique electro-mechanical property that shows significant change of the electrical conductance under the applied strain. In addition of the extraordinary mechanical strength [1], graphene becomes a prospective candidate for pressure sensor technology [2]. However, very few investigations have been carried out to demonstrate characteristics of graphene sensor as a device form. In this study, we demonstrate a pressure sensor using graphene double layer as an active channel to generate electrical signal as the response of the applied vertical pressure. For formation of the active channel in the pressure sensor, two single graphene layers which are grown on Cu foil (25 um thickness) by the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) are sequentially transformed to the poly-di-methyl-siloxane (PDMS) substrate. Dry and wet transfer methods are individually employed for formation of the double layer graphene. This sensor geometry results a switching characteristic which shows ~900% conductivity change in response to the application of pulsed pressure of 5 kPa whose on and off duration is 3 sec. Additionally, the functional reliability of the sensor confirms consistent behavior with a 200-cycle test.
We utilize times since infall of cluster galaxies obtained from Yonsei Zoom-in Cluster Simulation (YZiCS), the cosmological hydrodynamic N-body simulations, and star formation rates from the SDSS data release 10 to study how quickly late-type galaxies are quenched in the cluster environments. In particular, we confirm that the distributions of both simulated and observed galaxies in phase-space diagrams are comparable and that each location of phase-space can provide the information of times since infall and star formation rates of cluster galaxies. Then, by limiting the location of phase-space of simulated and observed galaxies, we associate their star formation rates at z ~ 0.08 with times since infall using an abundance matching technique that employs the 10 quantiles of each probability distribution. Using a flexible quenching model covering different quenching scenarios, we find the star formation history of satellite galaxies that best reproduces the obtained relationship between time since infall and star formation rate at z ~ 0.08. Based on the derived star formation history, we constrain the quenching timescale (2 - 7 Gyr) with a clear stellar mass trend and confirm that the refined model is consistent with the "delayed-then-rapid" quenching scenario: the constant delayed phase as ~ 2.3 Gyr and the quenching efficiencies (i.e., e-folding timescale) outside and inside clusters as ~ 2 - 4 Gyr (${\propto}M_*^{-1}$) and 0.5 - 1.5 Gyr (${\propto}M_*^{-2}$), Finally, we suggest: (i) ram-pressure is the main driver of quenching of satellite galaxies for the local Universe, (ii) the quenching trend on stellar mass at z > 0.5 indicates other quenching mechanisms as the main driver.
