  • In this study the classified researches the artificial and natural flaws in welding parts are performed using the pattern recognition technology. For this purpose the signal pattern recognition package including the user defined function was developed and the total procedure including the digital signal processing feature extraction feature selection and classifi-er selection is teated by bulk,. Specially it is composed with and discussed using the statistical classifier such as the linear discriminant function the empirical Bayesian classifier. Also the pattern recognition technology is applied to classifica-tion problem of natural flaw(i.e multiple classification problem-crack lack of penetration lack of fusion porosity and slag inclusion the planar and volumetric flaw classification problem), According to this result it is possible to acquire the recognition rate of 83% above even through it is different a little according to domain extracting the feature and the classifier.

  • Flaw visualization and velocity field measurement methods have practical applications in the various fluid engineering fields, such as mechanics, ships, and heat fluids. In this study, the basic principles and theoretical methods are used to establish an application technique of Particle Imae Velocimetry(abbreviated to PIV below). Accordingly, the measured results of velocity field distribution of a section inside the Circulating Water Channel (abbreviated to CWC below) are computed using the PIV is presented. The uniformity of velocity distribution of the section in CWC is confirmed, by comparing this PIV data with the existing current meter data. Also, in order to measure the flaw fields of surroundings of 2-dimensional cylinder in the CWC, the flaw visualization technique using the PIV is applied.

  • A two-dimensional hybrid flaw solver has been developed for the accurate and efficient simulation of steady and unsteady flaw fields. The flow solver was cast to accommodate two different topologies of computational meshes. Triangular meshes are adopted in the near-body region such that complex geometric configurations can be easily modeled, while adaptive Cartesian meshes are, utilized in the off-body region to resolve the flaw more accurately with less numerical dissipation by adopting a spatially high-order accurate scheme and solution-adaptive mesh refinement technique. A chimera mesh technique has been employed to link the two flow regimes adopting each mesh topology. Validations were made for the unsteady inviscid vol1ex convection am the unsteady turbulent flaws over an NACA0012 airfoil, and the results were compared with experimental and other computational results.

  • KS-code(KS B 0896) for nondestructive ultrasonic testing classifies the quality level by ratio of flaw size to plate thickness only. But stress distributions using verification(3 point bending test) show that location of the flaws is more important than the flaw size. So. KS-code should take the effect of flaw location for classifying the quality level of welded steel structures.

  • A comparative study on the turbulent flaw simulation and the potential flaw analysis has been performed. A law Mach number preconditioned Navier-Stokes solver, using the multi-block grid method and a panel method based on the velocity potential, have been developed and validated by comparison to the experimental data. The present numerical analysis methods are applied to the ground effect problem around the NACA 4412 airfoil. It has been confirmed that the potential flaw analysis on the ground effect, using the image method, is consistent, to some degree, with the viscous calculations for high Reynolds number flows.

  • The reactor pressure vessel head of PWR has penetrations for control rod drive mechanism and instrumentation systems. The Primary coolant water and operating temperature can cause the stress-corrosion cracking of these nickel-based alloy penetrations. It is difficult to detect and size flaws such as SCC in the reactor head penetrations using conventional W methods because of complex geometry, Therefore, the utilities are using the TOFD technique for the detection and sizing of the flaw. This study shows the correlation between the ultrasonic wave direction and the orientation of the flaw and the range of flaw depth which can be detected by the TOFD techniques.

  • The most important mode of subcritical crack growth is primary water stress corrosion crack, which was the reported mechanism from the root cause analysis of the crack in the bimetallic welds. Stress corrosion crack growth evaluations was carried out for several flaw shapes of both axial and circumferential flaws, using the steady-state stresses including residual stresses. This evaluation considered the possibility of additional flaws in the primary loops of nuclear power plant, even though no such flaws have been identified by Ultrasonic Test. Consequently, Results show that the predicted flaw sizes will determine acceptability for continued service and maintenance.

  • A method is presented for diagnosing the converter bearings by using acoustic emission. The flaking mechanism causing the large-scale bearing for furnace to flaw is investigated and a possibility of defect is verified by Finite Element method. he diagnosis logic is proposed fir detecting the flaw of a non-continuous rotating machine. It is proved that the acoustic emission energy can be used as a representative parameter for an acoustic event. Applying the method to the tilting bearings for steel mill in operation, the effectiveness of this logic is evaluated. It is shown that AE signal is generated only when the bearing is tilting, and the trend analysis can be focused upon this process.

  • In this study, we examine the characteristics of beam and the effect of these characteristics on the flaw detection by using different type of two transducers, which are PZT and PVDF film transducer. Consequently, the detection of infinitesimal flaw is more possible than PZT, since it has beam width at focus of $60%{\sim}65%$ in contrast with PZT's. Moreover we can know PVDF transducer has superiority in detecting ability for sub-surface flaw detection in view of its acoustic impedance is near to water's and its focusing range is narrower than PZT's as $65{\sim}85%$ because it has spherical surface.
