FLASH: The First Large Absorption Survey in HI with the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder

  • FLASH is a blind neutral hydrogen (HI) absorption line survey, eventually targeting about 100,000 background radio continuum sources in the entire southern sky using the full 36-antenna of the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP). Our primary goal is to search for associated and intervening HI absorption lines in the intermediate redshift range 0.4 < z < 1.0. The survey aims to understand the evolution of HI gas in galaxies as well as various physical mechanisms in active galactic nuclei, such as accretion and feedback processes. In this poster, we give an overview of the FLASH survey and present the preliminary results from our first 100-hrs of pilot observations. The latest survey data covers 1,000 square degrees and is ideal for validating observation and data processing in the continuous 300MHz-width low frequency ASKAP band (700-1000MHz). One of the crucial objectives of the pilot survey is to establish the analysis methodology that will be applied to upcoming large absorption surveys in the future. We discuss our data quality validation and present some detections of associated/intervening HI absorption lines. These absorption lines allow us to trace the cold gas properties of active and normal galaxies at higher redshifts where the HI emission line is too weak to be detectable.

  • A rigorous study of single droplet vaporization under quiescent high pressure atmosphere is attempted adopting method of flash evaporation calculation for vapor-liquid equilibrium. Results due to flash method shows excellent agreement with measurement. Also shown is the present model fairly capable of depicting transients of droplet vaporization under high pressure environment, such as ambient gas solubility, property variation, and multicomponent transports. Systematic treatment of these effects with emphasis on vapor-liquid phase equilibrium revealed; conventional treatment for subcritical droplet vaporization, such as $d^2$-law, leads to erroneous prediction of droplet history, augmented gas solubility is significant under supercritical pressure, and vaporization rate proportionally increase with pressure.

  • The influence due to metallic particle contaminated on spacer surface is remarkable in the decreasing of dielectric strength in $SF_6$ GIS. In relation with this problem, We studied, AC flash-over voltage characteristics and breakdown mechanism are investigated under metallic particle initiated condition in $SF_6$ gas by varying the particle position, particle shape with a plane-plane electrode. The main results arc as follows 1. The small amount of the metallic particle in the gap do not make flash-over voltage to be influence, but the significant decrease of th flash-overed voltage is result in case of the big and long size of the metallic paraticle. 2. Influence of the flash-over voltage are lowest in the mid and are highest in the electrode of metallic particle position. 3. In case of the initiated metallie particle, The more the pressure are high, the more the recluced ratio of flash-over voltage are high. 4. The metallic particle shape which results in the reduced flash-over voltage forced the critical pressure to move in to the region of low pressure. 5. The existance of the metallic particle on the upper electrode side and high pressure make the decreasing ratio of flash-over voltage bigger than that of the ground side electrode.

  • In track a third weakness point is joint part, turnout part, curve part. One of them joint part of rail have been known to the most weak point by loosen of joint bar and fish bolt due to impulse and vibration by wheel contact at times. In addition happen to deformation and failure at end of rail, failure and miniature of ballast gravel. Finally impact between wheel and rail become origin cause of a welded rail, noise and vibration. riding condition deterioration, besides track failure. In the present domestic, Thermite and Gas pressure weldings have been used to continuous welded rail(CWR), however stiffness and confidence in quality is lower than Flash butt welding method. FRW have the excellent capacity, however have a shortcoming large scale of machine and power equipment. Therefore we will introduce Mobile Flash Butt Welder can weld in track.

LNG 추진선의 천연가스 배관에서 누출 시나리오에 따른 피해범위에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Damage Range According to Leakage Scenarios in Natural Gas Pipeline of LNG Fueled Ship)

  • 본 연구에서는 LNG 추진선에서 배관의 파손으로 천연가스가 누출되었을 때 누출공의 크기별 플래시 화재, 과압, 복사열에 따른 피해범위를 ALOHA(Areal Location of Hazardous Atmospheres)를 이용하여 산출했다. 그리고 민감도 분석을 위해 환경 변수(풍속, 대기온도, 대기 안정도)와 공정 변수(배관 압력, 배관 길이)로 구분하여 다양한 시나리오별 피해영향범위를 분석했다. 그 결과 환경 변수에 따른 피해범위는 플래시 화재에 의한 피해범위가 가장 컸으며 다음으로 과압, 복사열 순서로 큰 피해범위를 나타냈다. 그리고 공정 변수에 따른 피해범위를 산출한 결과 배관의 압력과 길이, 누출공의 크기와 관계없이 플래시 화재에 의한 피해범위가 가장 컸으며, 환경 변수와 동일하게 과압, 복사열 순서로 높은 피해범위를 보였다. 또한 누출공의 크기가 클수록 환경 변수와 공정 변수가 피해범위에 큰 영향을 주었으며 제트 환재에 의한 피해범위는 환경 변수에 비해 공정 변수에 의한 피해범위가 더 큰 것을 알 수 있었다.

천연가스와 LPG/Air 혼합시 가스 호환성 연구 (A Study of Gas Interchangeability on Natural Gas and LPG/Air Mixture)

  • In order to study the gas interchangeability, a series of tests and analysis were conducted regarding to natural gas and gas mixture. Natural gas was selected as a reference and NG-LPG/Air mixture as a substitute gas. The major interest was placed on the determination of interchangeability limits for different mixing conditions. The parameters of Wobbe Index and Combustion Potential were employed in estimating the gas interchangeability, The limits obtained by analysis(AGA, WEAVER, KNOY, GILB) were compared with experimental results. The results estimated showed that the mixing limits of LPG/Air in proper conditions were found to vary with analysis and AGA is considered to be the most appropriate one.

기류건조기를 이용한 고수분 석탄의 건조 특성 (Drying Characteristic of High Moisture Coal using a Flash Dryer)

  • 5 kg/hr 벤치규모 기류건조기를 이용한 고수분 석탄의 건조 특성을 알아보았다. 도착시료 기준으로 원료 석탄의 수분 함량 및 발열량은 각각 29.74 wt%, 4,270 kcal/kg이다. 가스유입온도 및 가스유입속도는 각각 $400{\sim}600^{\circ}C$ 및 10~20 m/sec이다. 원료 석탄의 입자크기는 $100{\sim}2,000{\mu}m$로 분쇄 및 분급하였다. 원료석탄의 수분제거율은 가스유입온도는 증가하고 가스유입속도는 감소할수록 급격하게 증가하였다. 건조석탄의 발열량은 5,100~5,900 kcal/kg으로 증가하였다. 기류건조를 통한 고수분 석탄 표면에서의 발생하는 화학적인 변화를 알아보기 위하여 FT-IR 스펙트럼 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 하이드록실, 카르복실 및 카보닐 피크에서 주요한 변화가 일어나는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
