A study of the bata de cola in Flamenco dresses (플라멩코 드레스 바따 데 꼴라의 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the concept, form, and structure of the bata de cola through an investigation of the history of the costume and a study of the suitability of its functional elements during performance of 'Caña Flamenco'. Traditionally, Flamenco dance dresses were made by Spanish women from the lower classes, and the 'upward flow' of the dresses represented the women's individuality and unique style. The bata de cola, which appeared later, was an evolution of the Flamenco dress that was influenced by costume styles and silhouettes of the 19th and early 20th centuries, and it was made famous by Flamenco dancers. For practical costume production, a Flamenco artist who had performed in Spain and Korea was proposed as a study participant. The study was conducted using a stepwise wearing evaluation method whereby the Flamenco artist wore prototype dresses and evaluated whether they were practical for the required dance movements or not. A final bata de cola pattern was derived after the experiment was repeated five times based on the feedback of the Flamenco artist, focusing on the factors that were considered most important. Using stepwise clothing evaluation of the prototype, a costume that enabled the Flamenco artist to implement optimal movements was successfully produced.

Effects of Shipping Temperature and Precooling Treatment of Everbearing Strawberry Cultivars 'Goha' and 'Flamenco' Grown on Highland through Export Simulation (모의 수출 실험을 통한 고랭지 사계성 딸기 'Goha'와 'Flamenco'의 유통 온도 및 예냉 처리효과)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of low temperature shipping condition and precooling treatments (forced air and room cooling) on everbearing strawberry through export simulation of 'Goha' and 'Flamenco' cultivars. After harvest, it took two days to prepare export procedure such as precooling, sorting, storage, transportation, quarantine and handling, and then everbearing strawberry was carried out shipping at room ($20-25^{\circ}C$) or low ($8^{\circ}C$) temperature conditions. In the case of shipping at room temperature, weight losses of both cultivars were increased up to 10% after 2 days where 'Goha' being 2% higher than that of ' Flamenco'. In 'Flamenco' cultivar, shipping temperature and precooling treatment were not effective in firmness and soluble solids contents during transporting periods. However, in 'Goha' cultivar, room cooling treatment and low shipping temperature were effective in maintaining firmness until 4 days after shipping. Especially titratable acidity was affected by shipping temperature ($P{\leq}0.001$) and precooling treatments ($P{\leq}0.05$) in 'Goha' cultivar. Also shipping temperature under $8^{\circ}C$ delayed coloring and decay incidence of both strawberry cultivars, and precooling treatments of both forced air and room cooling reduced frequency of decay. The shelf life of everbearing strawberry at low shipping temperature was extended more than 4 days compared with shipping at room temperature. Precooling treatment including forced air or room cooling will be useful for the two cultivars when they are transported at low temperature. In 'Flamenco' cultivar, the effect of forced air and room cooling was similar, whereas in 'Goha' room cooling was more effective.

Breeding of New Ever-bearing Strawberry 'Muha' for Summer Culture (여름재배용 사계성 딸기 '무하' 육성)

  • 'Muha' is a new strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) cultivar, which was released by the Highland Agriculture Research Institute in 2015. The 'Muha' cultivar originated from a cross between 'Maehyang' and 'Selva' that showed excellent ever-bearing characteristics, including continuous flowering habit and high soluble-solid content under long-day and high temperature conditions in 2010. This cultivar was initially named 'Saebong No. 7' after examining its characteristics and productivity in summer culture from 2011 to 2014. After regional adaptability tests in 2015, 'Muha' was selected from Saebong No. 7 as an elite cultivar. The general characteristics of 'Muha' include semispreading type, elliptical leaf, and strength vigor in growth. The fruits are conical in shape, red in color. 'Muha' plants have 18.7 flower clusters, 8.7 more than 'Flamenco' plants. The fruit hardness of 'Muha' and Flamenco' was about the same. The number of fruits of 'Muha' was 37.2, which was 20 higher than that of 'Flamenco'. The marketable yield was 23,981 kg·ha-1, 159% higher than 'Flamenco'. 'Muha' is suitable for north and highland area of the Southeast Asia as a high hardness and yield cultivar, because it showed continuous flowering habit under long-day and high temperature conditions.

  • It is well-known that if a claim for damage [Note: Damage can be singular or plural] is made based on a breach of contract, calculating the existence and magnitude of certain profits to be deducted based on the damage can be problematic. In the case of a time charter party, even if the early redelivering vessel by the time charterers constitutes a breach of contract, it is still not an exception. In particular, interest in the shipping business seems to be relatively high in terms of how claims for damage by ship owners have been adjusted. In the case of the New Flamenco, there is a debate over whether or not to deduct the difference between the sale price immediately after redelivering the ship and the sale price upon expiration of the contract from the damage based on the breach of contract for the early time charter redelivery vessel. This paper focuses on this case since it appears to be of practical importance and has implications on how to calculate the amount of damage in the case of cancellation for early redelivery vessel in a time charter party.

Characteristics of New Ever-bearing Strawberry 'Jangha' Bred for High Soluble Solids Contents (고당도 사계성 딸기 '장하' 육성)

  • 'Jangha' is a new strawberry (Fragaria ${\times}$ ananassa Duch.) cultivar, which was released by the Highland Agriculture Research Institute in 2014. The 'Jangha' cultivar originated in 2008 from a cross between 'Goha' and 'Elsinore' that showed excellent ever-bearing characteristics, including continuous flowering habit and high soluble-solids contents under long-day and high temperature conditions. This cultivar was initially named 'Saebong No. 6' after examining its characteristics and productivity in summer culture from 2010 to 2012. After two regional adaptability tests in 2013-2014, 'Jangha' was selected from Saebong No. 6 as an elite cultivar. The general characteristics of 'Jangha' include semi-spreading type, elliptical leaves, and moderately vigorous growth. The fruit are conical in shape, and red in color. 'Jangha' plants have 21.4 leaves, 55.8 fewer than 'Flamenco' plants. The soluble-solids content of 'Jangha' was 8.9%, which was 1.2% higher than that of 'Flamenco'. The average fruit weight of 'Jangha' was about 11.7g and the marketable yield was $19,013kg{\cdot}ha^{-1}$, 141% higher than 'Flamenco'. 'Jangha' is suitable for summer season cultivation as a high soluble solids contents cultivar, because it shows continuous flowering habit under long-day and high temperature conditions.

  • This work characterizes 'Yeolha', a new strawberry (Fragaria ${\times}$ ananassa Duch.) cultivar that was released by the Highland Agriculture Research Center, RDA, in 2013. This cultivar originated from a 2008 cross between 'Goha' and 'Elsinyo' and showed excellent ever-bearing characteristics including continuous a flowering habit under long-day and high temperature conditions. It was originally named 'Saebong No. 5' after examining its characteristics and productivity in summer culture from 2010 to 2013. After two regional adaptability tests in 2012, it was selected as an elite cultivar and renamed 'Yeolha'. The general characteristics of 'Yeolha' include a semi-spreading plant type, elliptic leaves, and strong vigor in growth. Its fruit is conical and red. T he s oluble s olids content of 'Yeolha' is 8 .6%, w hich is 0.6% h ig her than t hat of 'Flamenco', b ut f ruit hardness is lower than that of 'Flamenco'. The average fruit weight of 'Yeolha' is about 12.1 g and the marketable yield is $28,133kg{\cdot}ha^{-1}$, which is 117% higher than that of 'Flamenco'. 'Yeolha' is resistant against Fusarium wilt. In addition, 'Yeolha' is suitable for four-season cultivation as a high harvesting cultivar because it shows continuous flowering under long-day and high temperature conditions.

Petiole Burst Occurrence and Yield by Controlled Number of Crowns and Flower Clusters of Ever-bearing Strawberry in Highlands (사계성 딸기의 고랭지 재배시 관부 및 화방 갯수 조절에 따른 엽병터짐과 수량의 변화)

  • This study was undertaken to evaluate the yield and petiole burst occurrence rate of ever-bearing strawberry by controlling crown numbers per plant and the first flower cluster for summer production at highland. The cultivar 'Flamenco' was planted on April 20 and split-plots were designed by managing the number of crown per plant in the main plot and the removed and non-removed first flower cluster in the sub-plot. Uptaken mineral amount of the plants showing petiole burst were higher than normal plants. Plants with one crown per plant showed 62-65% petiole burst rate in contrast to plants with three crowns per plant which showed 57-58% petiole burst. Date of initiation of the second flower cluster with less crown and removed first flower cluster was delayed. The flower clusters number of the plants managed with one crown per plant was 5.6, compared with 9.2 flower clusters of plants with three crowns per plant. The first harvesting with removed first flower cluster was delayed around 42-44 days. Aa a result, the yield performance of plants with two or three crowns per plant was 11,183-11,733 $kg{\cdot}ha^{-1}$ and the amount 65-75% higher than that of plants with one crown and removed first cluster.

Characteristics of Everbearing Strawberry Cultivars and the Effect of Precooling Treatment to Maintain Quality of 'Charlotte' Cultivar Grown on Highland in Summer Season (고랭지 사계성 딸기 품종 특성 비교 및 'Charlotte' 품종의 예냉 처리 효과)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the quality characteristics of eight everbearing strawberry cultivars and the effect of precooling treatment to maintain the quality during storage and shelf life of 'Charlotte'. Several quality parameters including firmness, soluble solids content (SSC), color, soluble sugars, and organic acids were evaluated. For Successful marketing everbearing strawberries required more than 1 N of firmness and $6^{\circ}Brix$ of SSC, respectively. 'Albion', 'Charlotte', and 'Goha' cultivars were higher in fruit SSC and 'Charlotte' cultivar was higher in fruit firmness among eight cultivars examined in this study. Fruit had more bright red color in 'Charlotte', 'Flamingo', 'GW-4', and 'San Andreas', which may reflect the consumer acceptance. Physicochemical characteristics of 'Charlotte' strawberry after with/without room precooling treatment were evaluated during storage at $4^{\circ}C$, $10^{\circ}C$, and $25^{\circ}C$ and additional 3 days at $25^{\circ}C$ for shelf-life. Weight loss increased about 8% in the fruits stored at $25^{\circ}C$ for 3 days, while in low temperature storage was about 2% for 7 days showing precooling was more effect on during shelf life periods rather than storage periods. Decay was not found during storage at $4^{\circ}C$ regardless of precooling treatment, but fungal growth was found in all the treatments after transferred to room temperature. Precooling treatment did not affect fruit color in shelf life period. For advanced marketing, everbearing strawberry should maintain in low temperature less than $4^{\circ}C$ to sustain quality, but the room precooling showed less significant effect to maintain quality on 'Charlotte' cultivar.
