The present study has been conducted to investigate the reaction kinetics and pyrolysis parameters for flame propagation analysis of furniture material components. TGA measurement for component materials such as MDF (medium density fiberboad) panel including coating material, synthetic leather and foam cushion are performed under maximum temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ and heating rate of $10^{\circ}C/min$. The results of TGA have shown that the peak temperature of MDF panel was $324^{\circ}C$ and the initial peak temperature of coating material decreased by $270{\sim}280^{\circ}C$. In the case of synthetic leather and foam materials, the reference temperature and reference rate depend on the type of polymer consisting the sample, the initial kinetic characteristics was classified into 2 categories of about $270^{\circ}C$ and $420^{\circ}C$ of reference temperature for the tested synthetic materials. The present study showed the pyrolysis parameters of reference temperature and reference rate proposed by Lyon to evaluate the pre-exponential factor and activation energy. The present study can contribute to improve the reliability of computational fire analysis and enhance the understanding of fire propagation phenomena based on the thermal properties study of material.
In October 2018, a large fire occurred after an explosion in an internal floating roof tank (IFRT) that stores gasoline by wind lantern in Goyang city, Gyeonggi-do. Although there was no casualty damage, the fire inside the tank lasted for 17 hours, and caused a great wave socially, and it was a chance to review the safety of the atmospheric storage tank. In this study, the necessity of installing a flame arrester at peripheral vents was examined through the calculation of the size of ventilation pipe and ventilation rate of internal floating roof tanks in terms of the function of the peripheral vent. Next, the necessity of the emergency shut-off valve linked with the high-level alarm to prevent the overflow of the atmospheric storage tank was confirmed by LOPA. Finally, safety measures to prevent overpressure, flame propagation and overflow which cause major accidents in atmospheric storage tank are suggested.
Fuel gases such as methane and propane are used in explosion hazardous area of domestic plants and can form non-uniform mixtures with the influence of process conditions due to leakage. The fire-explosion risk assessment using literature data measured under uniform mixtures, damage prediction can be obtained the different results from actual explosion accidents by gas leaks. An explosion characteristics such as explosion pressure and flame velocity of non-uniform gas mixtures with concentration change similar to that of facility leak were examined. The experiments were conducted in a closed 0.82 m long stainless steel duct with observation recorded by color high speed camera and piezo pressure sensor. Also we proposed the quantification method of non-uniform mixtures from a regression analysis model on the change of concentration difference with time in explosion duct. For the non-uniform condition of this study, the area of flame surface enlarged with increasing the concentration non-uniform in the flame propagation of methane and was similar to the wrinkled flame structure existing in a turbulent flame. The time to peak pressure of methane decreased as the non-uniform increased and the explosion pressure increased with increasing the non-uniform. The ranges of KG (Deflagration index) of methane with the concentration non-uniform were 1.30 to 1.58 [MPa·m/s] and the increase rate of KG was 17.7% in methane with changing from uniform to non-uniform.
An experimental study was carried out to analyse the explosion characteristics of flammable gas-air mixtures. Used flammable gases were hydrogen, methane, acethylene, ethylene and pro-pane, explosion Pressure, explosoin pressure rising rate, and flame propagation velocity were measured experimentaly. The maximum explosion pressure and rising rate of flammmalbe gas air mixtures were appeared at the range of slightly higher concentration than the stoichiometric concentration. Initial pressure before explosion was controlled from 0.6 to 2.0kg/cm absolutly. Explosion pressure was increased with increment of the initial pressure, and the relationship between initial pressure and explosion pressure was Pe = KPi. The effect of vessel size on explosion characteristics was also analysed In this experiment. Explosion pressure was increased with in-creasing the vessel size, otherwise explosion pressure rising rate was decreased. When we locate a dummy material in vessel explosion pressure was decreased with increasing the dummy volume but exlosion pressure rising rate was increased.

Seven different size of orifice were applied in a constant volume combustion chamber for evaluating the effects of torch-ignition on combustion. The initial flame development and flame propagation were analyzed by the mass fraction burn and combustion enhancement rate. The combustion pressures were measured to calculate the mass fraction burn and the combustion enhancement rates. In addition, the flame propagations were visualized by the shadowgraph method for the qualitative comparison. The result showed that the combustion pressure and mass burned fraction were increased when using the torch-ignition device. The combustion enhancement rates of torch-ignition cases were improved in comparison with conventional spark ignition. Finally, the visualization results showed that the torch-ignition induced faster burn than conventional spark ignition due to the earlier transition to turbulent flame and larger flame surface, during the initial stage.

This paper presents the evaluation of combustion characteristics of sing-hole plasma jet ignitions in comparison with conventional spark ignition for variable of swirl velocity. Plasma jet plugs are three types according to ejecting directions : center of chamber, positive and negative swirl flow direction. Experiments are carried out for equivalent ratio 1.0 of LPG-air mixture in a constant volume cylindrical vessel. Not only the flame propagation is photographed at intervals, but the pressure variation in the combustion chamber is also recorded throughout the entire combustion process. The results show that the plasma jet ignitions and spark ignition enhance the overall combustion rate by increasing the swirl velocity. The dependence of the combustion rate swirl velocity leade to the conclusion that the placma jet plug, which ejects plasma jet to the cwnter of combustion chamber is the most desirable ignitor than other plugs.
This paper describes the investigation of combustion characteristics of gasoline-methanol blend in constant volume combustion chamber. A constant volume combustion chamber was used to elucidate a basic combustion characteristics and the premixer was installed to control temperature and equivalence ratio. And the maximum pressure, combustion duration and flame propagation according to the evaporation rate were measured to determine the optimal temperature range for evaporating a blend fuel. These experimental results indicate that the combustion characteristics such as combustion chamber pressure and combustion were deteriorated by decreasing surrounding temperature of fuel. These experimental results indicate that the combustion characteristics such as combustion chamber pressure and combustion were deter orated by decreasing surrounding temperature of fuel injected. It was also found that the overall gasification process for methanol blend fuel was influenced by a combustion chamber temperature rather than a premixer temperature.

The autoignition and subsequent flame propagation of initially nonpremixed turbulent system have been numerically analyzed. The unsteady flamelet modeling based on the RIF (representative interactive flamelet) concept has been employed to account for the influences of turbulence on these essentially transient combustion processes. In this RIF approach, the partially premixed burning, diffusive combustion and formation of pollutants(NOx, soot) can be consistently modeled by utilizing the comprehensive chemical mechanism. To treat the spatially distributed inhomogeneity of scalar dissipation rate, the multiple RIFs are employed in the framework of EPFM(Eulerian particle flamelet model) approach. Computations are made for the various initial conditions of pressure, temperature, and fuel composition. The present turbulent combustion model reasonably well predicts the essential features of autoignition process in the transient gaseous fuel jets injected into high pressure and temperature environment.
Three Lab-scale combustors of different types were made to observe some basic phenomena of fuel combustion in the combustors ; grate type combustor, rotary kiln and FBC. The aims were to introduce how to simulate the combustion behaviors in the real plants by utilizing the reduced apparatuses and characterize the combustors relating to some important parameters such as fuel size, water contents, bed temperature, rotating speed of kiln, flow rate. The mean carbon conversion time and the flame propagation rate were adopted for the quantitative analysis.

In this study, we calculated gas flow fields and distribution of fuel droplet and mass fraction using the CONCHAS-SPRAY code which modified to execute in IBM PC and changed three important factors, injection rate pattern (BASIC, I, II, III), different bowl shape and spray type. Especially vortices which be influenced by fuel-air mixing process, evaporation and flame propagation are generated more strongly in the bowl-piston type combustion chamber than in the flat-piston type. As the spray type changes, it is found that conical type produced large and strong vortices and fuel droplets are effictively diffused into the entire combustion chamber. As the injection rate pattern changes I, II, III based on BASIC type, we confirmed that End-of-Injection Effect strongly influence on droplets life time.
