In this study, in order to evaluate adequacy of considering local site effect, excluding soil-structure interaction (SSI) effects in inelastic dynamic analysis and design of mid-rise moment resisting building frames, three structural models including 5, 10, and 15 storey buildings are simulated in conjunction with two soil types with the shear wave velocities less than 600 m/s, representing soil classes $D_e$ and $E_e$ according to the classification of AS1170.4-2007 (Earthquake actions in Australia) having 30 m bedrock depth. Structural sections of the selected frames were designed according to AS3600:2009 (Australian Standard for Concrete Structures) after undertaking inelastic dynamic analysis under the influence of four different earthquake ground motions. Then the above mentioned frames were analysed under three different boundary conditions: (i) fixed base under direct influence of earthquake records; (ii) fixed base considering local site effect modifying the earthquake record only; and (iii) flexible-base (considering full soil-structure interaction). The results of the analyses in terms of base shears and structural drifts for the above mentioned boundary conditions are compared and discussed. It is concluded that the conventional inelastic design procedure by only including the local site effect excluding SSI cannot adequately guarantee the structural safety for mid-rise moment resisting buildings higher than 5 storeys resting on soft soil deposits.

Theoretical and graphical analysis of pull-in-voltage and figure of merit for a fixed-fixed capacitive Micro Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) switch is presented in this paper. MEMS switch consists of a thin electrode called bridge suspended over a central line and both ends of the bridge are fixed at the ground planes of a coplanar waveguide (CPW) structure. A thin layer of dielectric material is deposited between the bridge and centre conductor to avoid stiction and provide low impedance path between the electrodes. When an actuation voltage is applied between the electrodes, the metal bridge acquires pull in effect as it crosses one third of distance between them. In this study, we describe behavior of pull-in voltage and figure of merit (or capacitance ratio) of capacitive MEMS switch for five different dielectric materials. The effects of dielectric thicknesses are also considered to calculate the values of pull-in-voltage and capacitance ratio. This work shows that a reduced pull-in-voltage with increase in capacitance ratio can be achieved by using dielectric material of high dielectric constant above the central line of CPW.

This paper presents a numerical analysis on the solidification characteristics in twin-roll strip casting. Unstructured fixed-grid system was employed to deal with phase change. Melting of pure gallium was analyzed to confirm the validity of present program in both structured and unstructured grid systems. An algorithm for simultaneous calculation of the temperature in the roll and the molten metal pool was developed. The flow field in the pool and heat transfer features between pool and roll were shown. The effect of process parameters was also studied. Since the geometry of the molten metal Pool significantly deforms along the casting direction, unstructured grid system is more efficient. The unstructured grid system gives almost the same accuracy, even though the number of grids is only 60% of the structure done.

In this paper an important class of problems in welding which come under the category of phase change is considered, Solidification and melting are important process in welding field. Phase change problems are accompanied by either absorption or release of thermal energy i,e, heat transfer process. This is complicated by the release or absorption of the latent heat of fusion at the solid-liquid interface. In this study the liberation of latent heat is taken in to account using fixed grid method. The numerical simulation and the finite element codes for the heat transfer analysis including the latent heat term has been developed based on this fixed grid method.

This paper shows the characteristic analysis of single-phase line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motors considering the overhang structure. To achieve the low-cost design of an LSPM motor, the overhang structure is adapted for the rotor with a constraint of a fixed magnet volume. To obtain the dynamic and steady performance of the motor, the circuit parameters are extracted using the 3D-static FEM(Finite Element Method) and the d-q equivalent circuit is used. The performance of the model with overhang is compared with the conventional model without overhang on the condition that both models have a fixed volume for the permanent magnet.
In recent years, owing to the growing user demand for the two-way internet service based on the move global broadband communications, a new type of satellite terminal has developed, known as earth station in motion (ESIM). This service was required by Resolution 158 (WRC-15) to study on the coexistence with the co-primary fixed service (FS) in 27.5-29.5 GHz as a FSS uplink. In this paper, four scenarios was introduced to account for the antenna pointing error and the azimuth for an analysis on the sharing between ESIM and FS. From analysis results, the required separation distance between two systems should be about 32~52 km according to the elevation angles of $20^{\circ}{\sim}40^{\circ}$ using thresholds of 5% and 10% outage probability. Therefore, it is necessary to control the azimuth angle due to a moving terminal as well as the pointing error of ESIM to minimize the required separation distance and to protect the co-primary FS.
The purpose of this study is to introduce the limit of previously used six sigma quality process evaluation metrics, $Z_{st}$ and $P_{pk}$, and a solution to overcome this drawback by using a metric based on performance evaluation of Z-factor quality innovation. Case analysis on projects from national six sigma contest from 2011 to 2012 is performed and literature review on new drug development HTS (High Throughput Screening) is used to propose innovative performance evaluation metrics. This research shows that experimental study on six sigma evaluation metric, $Z_{st}$ and $P_{pk}$, have no significance difference between industrial type (Manufacturing, Semi-Public Institute, Public Institute) and CTQ type (Product Technology Type CTQ, Process Technology Type CTQ). Following discovery characterize this quality improvement as fixed target type project. As newly developed moving target type of quality innovation performance metric Z-Factor is used for evaluating experimental study, hypothetical analysis suggests that $Z_{st}$ and $P_{pk}$ share different relationship or even show reciprocal relationship. Constraints of the study are relatively small sample size of only 37 projects from past 2 years and conflict on having interview and communication with six sigma quality practitioner for qualitative experimental study. Both moving target type six sigma innovation project and fixed target type improvement project or quality circle enables efficient ways for a better understanding and quality practitioner use by applying quality innovation performance metric. Downside of fixed target type quality performance evaluation metric, $Z_{st}$ and $P_{pk}$, is presented through experimental study. In contrast, advantage of this study is that high throughput requiring product technology, process technology and quantum leap typed innovation effect is evaluated based on precision and accuracy and Z-Factor that enables relative comparison between enterprises is proposed and implemented.
This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of R&D tax credit for SMEs. We surveyed to collect the information on firm's financial statements and R&D tax credit during 2014-2016, and implemented fixed effect model, random effect model and panel negative binomial model. The results show that the effect of R&D tax credit is 5.3 times larger in terms of R&D expenditure and 4.3 times bigger in terms of number of researchers than that of R&D subsidy. In addition, the effect of tax credit on non-metropolitan area companies is higher than that in the metropolitan area. Based on these results, we suggests three ways to improve the R&D tax incentive system for SMEs; To convert unused R&D tax credit of the start-ups to tax points, to exempt the minimum tax rate on R&D expenditure in equipment, and to unify the operation of various R&D tax credit institution.

Finite element analysis is peformed about the crack propagation in half-space due to sliding contact. The analysis is based on linear elastic fracture mechanics and stress intensity factor concept. The crack location is fixed and the friction coefficient between asperity and half-space is varied to analyze the effect of surface friction on stress Intensity factor for horizontal crack. The crack propagation direction is predicted based on the maximum range of shear and tensile stress intensity factor.
A meta-analysis was conducted to summarize the results of studies which have described the profiles of hormones during the oestrous cycle in buffalo using a fixed effect model and a random effect model. Plasma progesterone concentrations were lowest (0.30${\pm}$0.06 ng/ml) during the peri-oestrous phase and increased (p = 0.067) through the early luteal phase to a maximum concentration (1.94${\pm}$0.03 ng/ml) during the mid-luteal phase. Circulating plasma inhibin and estradiol concentrations were lowest (0.31${\pm}$0.01 and 11.04${\pm}$0.13 ng/ml) during the mid-luteal phase, increased through the late luteal phase to maximum concentrations (0.44${\pm}$0.02 and 22.48${\pm}$0.32 ng/ml) during the peri-oestrous phase. Plasma FSH concentrations were lowest during the early luteal phase and increased through the mid-luteal phase to a maximum concentration during the peri-oestrous phase. Peripheral prolactin concentrations were lowest during the late luteal phase and increased to a maximum concentration during the peri-oestrous phase which then declined (p = 0.716) during the early luteal phase. Peripheral plasma cortisol concentrations decreased from 2.68${\pm}$0.14 ng/ml during the early luteal phase to 1.43${\pm}$0.27 ng/ml during the mid-luteal phase (p<0.001) which then increased to 2.06${\pm}$0.17 ng/ml during the late luteal phase. Plasma $T_{5}$ concentrations decreased from the late luteal phase to the peri-oestrous phase (p<0.001) which then increased during the early luteal phase. $T_{4}$ concentrations increased from the late luteal phase to the peri-oestrous phase which then decreased during the early luteal phase.
