  • Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on Five Phase theory that link Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lung, Kidney to Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water respectively. Recently, some argue that this correspondence scheme had been established by political or socio-humane issues in early Eastern Han dynasty. But according to our analysis on Changgongyeoljeon(in Sagi), it has been revealed that this scheme had their own history from early Western Han dynasty. So we may conclude that people with medical profession had preserved the current correspondence scheme in Five Phase theory regardless trends of literature and politics in Western and Eastern Han dynasty.

The proximate analysis revealed that the moisture, crude protein and carbohydrate of muscle in higher than viscera. As results, except for the crude lipid and carbohydrate there was little significant differences among the moisture, protein and crude ash. The crude lipid contents was highest in the viscera of Meretrix lusoria, while lowest in the muscle of Ruditapes philippinarum. The carbohydrate content of viscera in the Meretrix lusoria, Ruditapes philippinarum and Protothaca jedoensis were $3.61{\pm}0.45%$, $3.45{\pm}1.4%$ and $3.39{\pm}0.07%$, respectively.

Methods : We researched that increase and decrease of vigor and up and down of Yin and Yang in human body are controled by sunlight through the literature. Results : The relationship between the human's five viscera and four seasons has the homeostasis as a result of the compatibility and rivalry process. Between of the human's five viscera and four seasons, the spleen plays important role of four seasons. The reason is that the liver, the heart, the lungs and the kidneys manages the 72 days in spring, summer, autumn and winter, repectively. However, the spleen arranges and regulates the liver, the heart, the lungs and the kidneys through the 18days of each season's ending, respectively. These are the basis of Lee Dong Won's(李東垣) 'The Spleen Strength Theory(補脾論). In four seasons, We make prescription harmonized with the energy such as rising in spring, floating in summer, astriction in autumn, preservation in winter. Conclusions : These results suggest that the criterion and the conception of the four seasons may be important role to remedy for diseases and to prescribe and to use of medicine.

  • In Oriental Medical theory, origin of kidney's weakness or atrophy is shen qi(腎氣) and function of san jiao(三焦) deteriorate, it result in a passage of evacuation is blocked. - In Oriental Medicine, Shen(腎) take charge of storing and evacuating function, by taking qi(氣) of the five viscera and the six bowels. - The cause of reducing of shen qi and san jiao's evacuative function is xu han(Emptiness and Coldness) of the five viscera and the six bowels' activity. So we do not treat only kidney, but we also must focus the five viscera and the six bowels' organic function and ying wei's function. A Renal Failure is similar in symptom to Kwan-kyuk(關格), oliguria or anuria, edema, Hu-son(虛損), Sin-pung(腎風) and Yuk-kuk(六極) in chenxiang(沈香). We grasp symptom of 7 cases of chronic renal failure, and diagnose its pathology based on Sa-jin(四診), and prescribed herbal medicines. And in the point of the chenxiang, we separate two group, Ater one is taken herbal medicine with chenxiang and the other is only taken herbal medicine with no using chenxiang, we compared the rate of treating with only herbal and herbal compounded chenxiang. We repeat medical examination for continuation of effective result, report clinical progress and result which based on this examination.

  • This study aims to investigate the specific functions of the five spirits based on the characteristics of five phases. In Korean medicine, the mind is classified into five spirits and seven emotions. The spirits (hon, sin, ui, baek, ji) are a way of analyzing of people's mental structures, and they are affected by each other, influencing life activities both directly and indirectly. They are also related to the five viscera and come into their own functions through the characteristics of the five phases that are assigned to the viscera. Sin is the main agent of mental activity that is normal, correct, and perfect, and it directs the other four. Hon is activity that is exposed to the outside from mental and physical aspects such as planning, creative thinking, creating, judgment, speech, and emotional expression. Baek is internal activity, such as obtaining information, learning, seeing, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Ui is meant to decide between new and already saved information based on comparative analysis. Ji is the activity of making the final decision and saving it in ui. Based on the above, we suppose that the five spirits' functions match the characteristics of the five phases.

  • It has been known that Tri-origin theory could describe pertinently the dynamic phenomena of life. From the viewpoint of the asian image-mathematics, the most representative Tri-origin could be Four Images, Five Phases, and Six Qi(six kinds of weather). In Korean traditional medicine, Tri-origin could be meridian system, Jangbu viscera system, and body essence vital energy mentality blood system. Here we reasoned whether asian image-mathematics could be applicable to Korean traditional medicine system, and as a conclusion ; Meridian system belongs to Six Qi, Jangbu viscera system belongs to Five Phases, and body essence vital energy mentality blood system belongs to Four Images.
