This paper deals with an improved core loss calculation under the load conditions, namely, no-load, AC-load and DC-load of multi-pole PM generator from curve fitting method using modified Steinmetz equation considered anomalous loss. For an accurate calculation, magnetic field analyses in stator core considering the time harmonics are performed. And using the nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA), we applied separated rotating and alternating magnetic field to core loss calculation. In order to verify the core loss results by proposed method, the experimental system for no-load core loss measurement has been implemented with DC motor, power analyzer and manufactured PM generator. And, the analysis results with rotational speed agree extremely well with those obtained by measurement.

The important problem in high speed spindles is to reduce and minimize the thermal effect by motor and bail bearings. Thermal characteristics according to the bearing pre-load and cooling condition are studied for the test spindl with grease lubrication and high frequency motor. Bearing and motor we main heat generation, and heat generation by ball bearings as a function of load, viscosity and gyroscopic moment effect are considered. Temperature distribution and thermal displacement according to the speed of spindle are measured by thermocouple and gap sensor. The results show that the fitting pre-load and cooling temperature are very effective to minimize the thermal effect by motor an ball bearings.
Design procedure of adaptive controller with variable load condition is present and applied to velocity control of small, permanent magnet DC servo motor. The state feedback control scheme is adopted and Recursive Least Squares algorithm is used for parameter estimation. In order to reduce the time consuming. In the procedure of adaptation-gain tuning of state feedback controller, approximate curve fitting technique is applied to the relations between load condition and poles of the system, load condition and feedback gains. With this method, fast adaptation can be accomplished. It is shown that this procedure can be applied not only to variable load condition but also to variation of other system constants, for example variation of resistance and inductance etc.. Simulation results is present for both cases - variable inertia load, variable motor resistance to verify performance improvements. This design procedure produces an adaptive con troller which is feasible for implementation with microprocessor by reducing calculation time.
A total of 99 full-scale field load tests at 22 sites were compiled for this study to elucidate several issues related to the load-displacement behaviour of belled piers under axial uplift loading, including (1) interpretation criteria to define various elastic, inelastic, and "failure" states for each load test from the load-displacement curve; (2) generalized correlations among these states and determinations to the predicted ultimate uplift resistances; (3) uncertainty in the resistance model factor statistics required for reliability-based ultimate limit state (ULS) design; (4) uncertainty associated with the normalized load-displacement curves and the resulting model factor statistics required for reliability-based serviceability limit state (SLS) design; and (5) variations of the combined ULS and SLS model factor statistics for reliability-based limit state designs. The approaches discussed in this study are practical and grounded realistically on the load tests of belled piers with minimal assumptions. The results on the characterization and uncertainty of uplift load-displacement behaviour of belled piers could be served as to extend the early contributions for reliability-based ULS and SLS designs.
Hybrid-fiber reinforced concrete (HFRC) may provide much higher tensile and flexural strengths, tensile ductility, and flexural toughness than normal concrete (NC). HFRC slab has outstanding advantages for use as a composite bridge potential deck slab owing to higher tensile strength, ductility and crack resistance. However, there is little information on shear connector associated with HFRC slabs. To investigate the mechanical behavior of the stud shear connectors embedded in HFRC slab, 14 push-out tests (five batches) in HFRC and NC were conducted. It was found that the stud shear connector embedded in HFRC had a better ductility, higher stiffness and a slightly larger shear bearing capacity than those in NC. The experimentally obtained ultimate resistances of the stud shear connectors were also compared against the equations provided by GB50017 2003, ACI 318-112011, AISC 2011, AASHTO LRFD 2010, PCI 2004, and EN 1994-1-1 (2004), and an empirical equation to predict the ultimate shear connector resistance considering the effect of the HFRC slabs was proposed and validated by the experimental data. Curve fitting was performed to find fitting parameters for all tested specimens and idealized load-slip models were obtained for the specimens with HFRC slabs.

Structures with additional frictional damping system have strong nonlinearity that the dynamic behavior is highly affected. by the relative magnitude between frictional force and excitation load. In this study, normalized response spectra of the structures with non-dimensional friction force are obtained through nonlinear time history analyses of the mass-normalized single degree of freedom systems using 20 ground motion data recorded on rock site. The variation of the control performance of frictional damping system is investigated in terms of the dynamic load and the structural natural period, of which effects were not considered in the previous studies. Least square curve fitting equations are presented for describing those normalized response spectrum and optimal non-dimensional friction forces are obtained for controlling the peak displacement and absolute acceleration of the structure based on the derivative of the curve fitted design spectrum.

The press bulging process is very useful and productive method to produce round-type mechanical components which have not been able to be manufactured because of limitation of the conventional press technology. The application of the press bulging process has expanded very quickly in the hydraulic and electronic industry and more recently it has been used to produce other mechanical parts such as the automobile and shipping parts. This expanding application also has brought some unsolved problems and leads many researchers to put their effort into the die design of the press bulging process. In this study, to obtain the optimum die shape for the press bulging process, various process parameters have been considered such as corner radius, bulging height, pressing length, and forming load, etc. The main interest of this paper is to verify the press bulging process which has more than 4.0 in height-length ratio. From this aspect, Finite Element analysis shows great ability to simulate the precise deformation process and gives us manufacturing database. Consideration of strain, stress, and strain-rate for the various cases has been also taken to keep the forming load within a particular range.

Electric load forecasting is essential for effective power system planning and operation. Complex and nonlinear relationships exist between the electric loads and their exogenous factors. In addition, time-series load data has non-stationary characteristics, such as trend, seasonality and anomalous day effects, making it difficult to predict the future loads. This paper proposes a locally-weighted polynomial neural network (LWPNN), which is a combination of a polynomial neural network (PNN) and locally-weighted regression (LWR) for daily shortterm peak load forecasting. Model over-fitting problems can be prevented effectively because PNN has an automatic structure identification mechanism for nonlinear system modeling. LWR applied to optimize the regression coefficients of LWPNN only uses the locally-weighted learning data points located in the neighborhood of the current query point instead of using all data points. LWPNN is very effective and suitable for predicting an electric load series with nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics. To confirm the effectiveness, the proposed LWPNN, standard PNN, support vector regression and artificial neural network are applied to a real world daily peak load dataset in Korea. The proposed LWPNN shows significantly good prediction accuracy compared to the other methods.

This study aims to determine the cause of structural defects occurring during aircraft operations and to verify the structural integrity of the improved features. The fracture plane was analyzed to verify the characteristics of the cracks and the fatigue failure leading to the final fracture was determined by the progress of the cracks by the repeated load. During aircraft operations, the comparative analysis of the load measurement data at the cracks with the aircraft design load determined that the measured load was not at the level of 30% of the design to be capable of being damaged. A gap analysis resulted in a significant stress of approximately 32 ksi at the crack site. Pre-Load testing also confirmed that the M.S. was reduced by more than 50% from +0.71 to +0.43, resulting in a sharp increase in aircraft load and the possibility of cracking when combined. Thus, structural reinforcement and the removal of the gap for aircraft cracking sites improved the defect. Based on the structural strength analysis of the improvement features, the bulkhead has a margin of about +0.88 and the fitting feature is about +0.48 versus allowable stress. In addition, the life analysis results revealed an improvement of approximately 84000 hours.
