This study, at first we extracted natural dyes from seaweed(Sargassum thunbergii, Hizikia fusiforme, Sargassum horneri). Then. we dyed cotton, wool, and silk with the extracted dyes. This study purposes to find the best one for dyeing with seaweed in order to develop a more efficient method of dyeing with seaweed and investigates the colorfastness to washing, light, sun protection factor, antibiotic activities, deodorization after mordanting treatment. of seaweed. The mission of general agricultural education is to prepare and support individuals for careers, build awareness, and develop leadership for the food, fiber, and natural resource systems. In response to the changes of the recognition and attitude toward agriculture, agricultural education also should be developed and adapted to the circumstances. And The Researcher took an observation on color change, color fastness to washing and color fastness to light after mordanting treatment. And the following results have been obtained. 1) Dyed cotton, wool, and silk fabrics with the extract of seaweed are generally brown. 2) Wool. silk, and cotton, in this order, are of good dyeability; Wool fabrics have the highest dyeability and cotton fabrics have the lowest. 3) Colorfastness to washing, light, sun protection factor, antimicrobial activity acessment, deodorization are all high. 4) The seaweed-dyed fabrics were shown to have much higher sun protection factor than the non-dyed fabrics, and the seaweed-dyed fabrics with mortanting treatment showed the following result; ranged from anged from from 93.1% to grade 99.2%. 5) The seaweed-dyed fabrics were shown to have much higher antibiosis than the non-dyed fabrics, and the seaweed-dyed fabrics with mortanting treatment showed the following result; ranged from 91.3% to grade 99.9%. 6) The seaweed-dyed fabrics were shown to have much higher deodorization than the non-dyed fabrics, and the seaweed-dyed fabrics with mortanting treatment showed 99.9%.
This study is to evaluate economic value of the ecosystem service benefits of the marine forests provided to our society on the basis of the global standard valuation manual. The main results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the ecosystem service benefits of marine forests are worth 771,121,551 won per hectare for a year in Korea. Second, when evaluating value based on the services benefits of the marine forests, as resource provisioning service, the annual value of the fishery potential production amounts to 58,512,271 won per hectare. The annual value of the environmental and regulatory services is estimated to total 29,574,000 won per hectare including 546,488 won per hectare for climate regulation, 85,342 won per hectare for pollution purification, and 28,942,170 won per hectare for erosion protection. The annual value of the culture and tourinsm services is estimated to total 15,317,647 won per hectare including 5,011,765 won per hectare for skin scuba service and 10,305,882 won per hectare for sea fishing. Also, the aunnual non-use value is estimate to 637,800,000 won per hectare. Third, assuming that the value of the sea forests increases proportionally to the unit area, the marine forests can be valued at 12.7 trillion won per year based on 12,208.2 hectares of marine forests creation area and 4,272.6 hectares of natural seaweed beds. Fourth, the total economic value of the marine forests can be estimated at 244 trillion won in 2016, if the value of the marine forests permanently continues in the future by applying 5.5% of the social discount rate. The results of this study are expected to serve as a valuable information for improving awareness of the value of marine forests ecosystem and ensuring the validity of the marine forests creation policy by converting the value of the marine forests's ecosystem service into monetary units.
This study is to evaluate economic effect of the creation project of snow crab, Chionoecetes opilio, spawning and habitat ground in Uljin and Youngdeok county. The main results of this study are summarized as follows: first, 14,400 million won was invested in the creation project cost of Chionoecetes opilio spawning and habitat ground of Uljin and Youngdeok County from 2015 to 2020. Second, the creation project of Chionoecetes opilio spawning and habitat ground directly provides fishing benefits, festival benefits, research and development benefits and employment benefits. Third, on the basis of above benefits, the creation project of Chionoecetes opilio spawning and habitat ground has net present value of 29,900.53 million won, internal rate of return 16.9%, and benefit-cost of 2.91 under a 4.5% social discount rate. Also, the creation project creates 195 jobs. This indicates that the creation project of Chionoecetes opilio spawning and habitat ground not only contributes to the increase in the income of coastal fishery and fishing villages but also to the job making. The result of this study provides useful information to policy makers or project managers as it shows that the project to create spawning and habitat ground should be carried out in consideration of the resource and biological characteristics of individual fish and that economic assessment logic should also be developed based on this. Also, it proves that the project to create a snow crab spawning and habitat ground is a national and local infrastructure project that increases the actual fishing income in the region. At the same time, it maintains the reproducibility function of most fish species, along with enhancing the people's benefits such as fishing village tourism and marine product consumption. Moreover, it provides useful information on budgeting for the continuous development of snow crab spawning and habitat ground in the mid to long-term.
The effect of entrapping isothiocyanates extracted from horseradish root by microencapsulation on the shelf life of Myeongran jeotgal was evaluated. The total viable cell count of Myeongran jeotgal reached $10^7CFU/g$ (initial decomposition level) on days 43 and 45 of treatment with 1.0% and 2.0% microcapsules (4.0 mg/mL), respectively, compared with day 21 of storage at $5^{\circ}C$ as the control treatment. The proteolytic bacterial counts of Myeongran jeotgal treated with 1.0% and 2.0% microcapsules were $2.0{\times}10^5$ and $9.5{\times}10^4CFU/g$, respectively, with 2 and 3 log reductions compared with the control count ($1.1{\times}10^7CFU/g$) on day 33 of storage at $5^{\circ}C$. The total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) level reached 30.0 mg% (initial decomposition level) on days 47 and 48 of treatment with 1.0% and 2.0% microcapsules, respectively, compared with day 33 of storage at $5^{\circ}C$ as the control. Based on the sensory evaluation, the freshness of Myeongran jeotgal treated with 1.0% microcapsules was best compared with the other treatments. Based on the total viable cell count, TVB-N and sensory evaluation, the shelf life of Myeongran jeotgal treated with 1.0% microcapsules was extended by 22, 16 and 15 days, respectively, compared with the control at $5^{\circ}C$.
The fishing vessel buyback program, that is, the project of fishing vessel reduction is a complex challenge that needs to take into consideration for both fishing resource protection and industrial restructuring. By the way, the fishing vessel buyback program in Korea is still poorly fruitful and there are few applications for the project in the country. For example, the buyback program of this nation has some problems like uncertainly set goals, conflicts among targets, no flexibility in the program implementation, low participation in the project and lack in follow-up actions. To solve these problems, this study offers the following alternatives. First, it is setting up detailed targets for fishing vessel buyback. Those targets should be what can be actually driven under policy support, such as reduction in illegal fishing, decrease in an exact number of fishing vessels and decline in fishing capacity rather than what seem to be comprehensive such as protection of coastal or offshore fishery and industrial restructuring. Second, it is taking measures for the livelihood of those who would face disadvantages due to fishing vessel reduction. Those measures providing or supporting the re-education and re-employment of fishery workers and building up systems that help the workers transfer fishing to another job. Third, it is adopting the governance system that overcomes lacks in communications between the fishing vessel buyback program and improves the performance effectiveness of that program. Here, governance means that businesses and authorities concerned in the program interact and cooperate with one another in making and implementing policies related to the project of fishing vessel reduction and assessing the results of that project. Fourth, it is taking actions for fishery reorganization after the fishing vessel buyback program. Factors that can be considered as those actions include supporting fishery workers' cost of fishing vessel reduction, decreasing and modernizing fishing fleets and improving the quality of fishing equipment. In conclusion, the fishing vessel buyback program should be prepared with comprehensive actions or measures that can cope well with a variety of problems that may be arisen from it while keeping itself on the track of its original goals.
Growth differences in Caulerpa okamurae thallus parts and the effects of apex removal on growth were examined. Erect fronds, stolons, and erect fronds with stolons (erect+stolon) were grown for 14 days, whereas erect fronds without and with apex removal (-A and +A fronds, respectively), were grown for 25 days. The relative growth rates (RGR) of C. okamurae thallus parts ranged from 1.91% to 4.93% day-1 with maximal and minimal RGR for the stolon and erect+stolon treatments, respectively. Over the 25 days in culture, the -A fronds showed a higher RGR (2.48% day-1) than the +A fronds (1.96% day-1). More new erect fronds and stolons were produced by -A fronds than those by +A fronds. In addition, basal cutting of erect C. okamurae fronds resulted in a greater plant length increase than that obtained from top cutting. These findings indicate that vegetative growth is common in C. okamurae, which has excellent wound healing ability, and cutting damage to erect fronds may stimulate enhanced vegetative growth. Thus, we suggest that stolons and erect fronds of C. okamurae could be used as seeding materials for large scale cultivation. Furthermore, this edible species could be a potential seaweed resource for rapid skin regeneration cosmetics.
Global warming has affected the distribution of organisms for decades and has displayed rapid ascent recently. Research into the effects on tropical organisms are vital. Padina boryana is a resourceful marine microalgae in the Maldives Sea in the Laccadive region. A 70% ethanol extraction (PBE) of this seaweed was used to investigate its antioxidant potential. Both in vitro and in vivo models were implemented. PBE exhibited protective potential against H2O2 induced apoptosis. ROS levels were suppressed due to PBE. PBE expressed a cytoprotective nature. In vivo experiments involving the zebra fish model conformed its validity. The antioxidant efficacy of PBE was dose dependent. Study outcomes suggest PBE has potential as a novel and valuable marine resource to aid the functional food and cosmeceutical industries.
The aim of this study was to isolate and identify secondary metabolites from Sonchus brachyotus and evaluate their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. In this study, we isolated three flavonoids from a 70% EtOH extract by Medium Pressure Liquid Chromatography (MPLC) and prep-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). To evaluate the biological activities (antioxidant and anti-inflammatory) of these flavonoids, their in vitro inhibitory activities against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, nitric oxide (NO) production, and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) secretion were determined. We successfully identified three flavonoids, namely luteolin (1), luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucoside (2), and luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucuronide (3) by spectral analyses. Luteolin (1) at 20 ㎍/mL inhibited ROS generation, NO production, and PGE2 secretion by 48.6%, 61.28% and 12.10%, respectively, and luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucoside (2) inhibited NO and PGE2 generation by 67.03% and 20.82%, respectively. Luteolin (1) and luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucoside (2) showed similar anti-inflammatory activities; however, luteolin (1) was observed to be a stronger antioxidant. Besides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, S. brachyotus extract containing luteolin (1) and luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucoside (2) is considered to possess diverse biological activities. The results indicate that S. brachyotus is an edible medicinal plant, which is believed to be significant resource of functional foods.
The purpose of this study is to compare short-term price predictive power among ARMA ARMAX and VAR forecasting models based on the MDM test using monthly consumer price data of frozen mackerel. This study also aims to help policymakers and economic actors make reasonable choices in the market on monthly consumer price of frozen mackerel. To analyze this study, the frozen wholesale prices and new consumer prices were used as variables while the price time series data were used from December 2013 to July 2021. Through the unit root test, it was confirmed that the time series variables employed in the models were stable while the level variables were used for analysis. As a result of conducting information standards and Granger causality tests, it was found that the wholesale prices and fresh consumer prices from the previous month have affected the frozen consumer prices. Then, the model with the highest predictive power was selected by RMSE, RMSPE, MAE, MAPE, and Theil's inequality coefficient criteria where the predictive power was compared by the MDM test in order to examine which model is superior. As a result of the analysis, ARMAX(1,1) with the frozen wholesale, ARMAX(1,1) with the fresh consumer model and VAR model were selected. Through the five criteria and MDM tests, the VAR model was selected as the superior model in predicting the monthly consumer price of frozen mackerel.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced promoting the project, 'Regional Agricultural Clusters,' in Feb. 2004 through 「The Comprehensive Plan for the Agriculture and Agricultural Communities」 and initiated a model project from 2005.
