Experiments were carried out to investigate the growth and hematological parameters of rock bream Oplegnathus fasciatus exposed to several different concentrations (0, 1, 2, 4, $8{\mu}g/L$) of tributyltin (TBT) for 4 weeks. Growth rate of the fish exposed to $8{\mu}g/L$ of TBT concentration was significantly lower than that of control group fish. The major hematological findings were significant decreases in the red blood cell count, hematocrit value and hemogobin concentration in the fish exposed to $8{\mu}g/L$. Although serum glucose concentration was significantly reduced compared to the control group, total protein concentration was found to be significantly increased over the control group. Exposure to $8{\mu}g/L$ of TBT concentration resulted in significant increase in the enzyme activities, such as glutamic oxalate transminase and glutamic pyruvate transminase in the fish. The present findings suggest that exposure to $8{\mu}g/L$ concentration of TBT can cause significant changes in growth and hematological parameters of rock bream Oplegnathus fasciatuso.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of extruded pellet (EP) size on the growth performance of olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus at the juvenile (Exp-I; $62.2{\pm}0.05$), growing (Exp-II; $150{\pm}1$) and sub-adult (Exp-III; $299{\pm}1$) stages. In Exp-I (3, 4, 5 and 6 mm diets), Exp-II (4, 9, 11 and 13 mm diets) and Exp-III (9, 11, 13 and 16 mm diets), triplicate groups of fish were fed four EP diets of different pellet sizes. In Exp-I, larger pellet sizes were significantly better than the smallest pellet size (3 mm). In Exp-II, significantly improved feed and protein efficiency were observed with increasing pellet size. The feed conversion ratios of the fish fed the 4 and 9 mm diets were significantly lower than those of fish fed 11 and 13 mm diets. The dietary digestibility of protein and energy was higher in smaller EPs than in larger sizes. In Exp-III, the growth performance of fish was not affected by the pellet size. However, feed intake was significantly affected, increasing with increasing pellet size. Therefore, the optimum pellet sizes for olive flounder under the conditions in this study were 5 mm for 60-150 g fish and 9 mm for 150-500 g fish.
The development of a fish that functionally provides both antioxidant and fat-reducing effects is an important goal in nutrition and aquaculture research. Dietary conjugated linoleic acid(CLA) can be successfully incorporated in fish muscle and viscera, but CLA and carotenoids have not been evaluated in such fish. An 8 weeks growth trial was conducted using rainbow trout, and all fish were fed twice daily with experimental diets containing graded amounts of CLA(1% and 5%). At the end of the experiment, the daily growth index, feed conversion rate, lipid class, and fatty acid composition were determined. Dietary CLA did not enhance the growth parameters of rainbow trout but did improve the feed conversion rate. The muscular polar lipid content decreased during the feeding period, while the content was stable in the viscera. In addition, a diet high in CLA decreased the polyunsaturated fatty acid content, but had no effect on the content of monounsaturated and saturated fatty acid in muscle.
The effects of daily feeding frequency (Exp I), water temperature (Exp II), and stocking density (Exp III) on the growth of river puffer, Takifugu obscurus, juvenile fish of 10 and 40 g in body weight were examined to develop effective techniques to produce river puffer in a non-exchange water system. In Exp I, fish were fed commercial floating feed with 45 % protein one to five times per day to apparent satiation each by hand daily for 8 weeks at $25^{\circ}C$. In both the 10- and 40-g size groups, the final body weight, daily feed consumption, and weight gain of fish fed one meal per day were significantly lower than those of fish fed five meals per day (P < 0.05). However, there were no significant differences in the final body weight, daily feed consumption, and weight gain among fish fed two, three, and five meals per day. Feed efficiency showed decreasing tendency with increasing size of fish. In Exp II, fish of 10 and 40 g in initial body weight were reared with the commercial feed at $15-30^{\circ}C$ for 8 weeks. The weight gain of fish increased with raising water temperature up to $25^{\circ}C$ and decreased drastically at $30^{\circ}C$ for both sizes. The Q10 of specific growth rate was decreased with raising water temperature from 5.04 (temperature interval, $15-20^{\circ}C$) to 0.66 ($25-30^{\circ}C$) for the 10-g fish and from 4.98 to 0.31 for the 40-g fish. In Exp III, the effect of stocking density on growth was examined with fish of 10 and 40 g in initial body weight. The final body weight for initial stocking densities of 4, 8, and $12kg/m^3$ was significantly higher than that of $20kg/m^3$ for the 10-g fish, and the final stocking density reached 10.1, 19.2, 28.7, and $39.9kg/m^3$, respectively. For the 40-g fish, the final body weight for initial stocking densities of 3 and $6kg/m^3$ was significantly higher than that of 9 and $15kg/m^3$ and the final stocking density reached 7.38, 13.5, 17.1, and $27.5kg/m^3$, respectively (P < 0.05). In both groups, weight gain tended to decrease with increasing stocking density; however, survival showed no significant difference.
The aim of this study is to explores the possibility of applying new aquaponics using guppies, a tropical fish breeding as companion fish at home, different from the aquaponics system using fish species such as loach, carp, and catfish for commercial purposes. To facilitate the application of Aquaponics at home, a system was established by connecting a water tank, water plants, hydroponic pots, plant growth LEDs, and Arduino sensors using Internet of Things(IoT) technology. As a hydroponic crops, lettuce that can be easily obtained and consumed at home was selected. In order to confirm the applicability of aquaponics using tropical fish, the growth rates of hydroponic crops in the same environment were compared as a control. The growth rate of aquaponics crops using tropical fish was about 77.4% of that of hydroponic crops. This will produce the same effect as hydroponic cultivation if conditions correspond with enough fish quantity to feed plant and appropriate pH control for growth are met. It can be seen that, and in the future, it can be used to develop an Aquaphonics standard system applicable at home.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the genetic parameters of growth traits for improvement breeding in olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus at the 8th generation of selective breeding in April 2021. Growth traits such as total length, body weight and condition factor at 11 months of age were measured for 7,508 individuals with confirmed paternity. Data were analyzed using the restricted maximum likelihood method applied to a multiple traits animal model. The effects of sex and family were significantly different across traits (P<0.05). The heritability values of total length, body weight and condition factor were estimated to be high as 0.479, 0.457, and 0.466, respectively. Correlation analysis between phenotypic and breeding values, indicated that the selection accuracy was 75.9-85.2% for all traits. To increase the selection accuracy for parent fish selection, the sex and pedigree characteristics that affect each trait should be considered. Moreover, further improvement of multiple traits can be achieved if the correlation between each trait is appropriately considered.
Morphometric relationships, condition factor (CF) and reproductive biology are significant tools in fish stock management, fish biology, physiology, conservation and ecology. Growth and reproductive strategy of Oreochromis niloticus were studied from 343 fish specimens collected from Lake Shala between January and December 2018. Fish samples ranged from 7.7 cm to 33.0 cm in total length (TL) and from 7.80 g to 708.21 g in total weight (TW) were collected using gillnets of 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 mm mesh sizes. The length-weight relationship of O. niloticus was TW = 0.0104TL3.19, indicating positive allometric growth of the fish. The sex ratio (0.93:1) was insignificant from the ideal fish distribution of 1:1 (χ2 = 0.47, p > 0.05). Mean CF for males, females and combined sexes was 1.04, 1.06 and 1.05, respectively and statistically insignificant (p > 0.05). The spawning peak occurred in July (rainy) and February (dry) periods, as defined by ripe females and the breeding season. Absolute mean fecundity was 806 eggs and correlated positively with TL and TW of the fish (p < 0.05) (F = 0.56TL2.29, R2 = 0.93, p < 0.05; F = 18.83TW0.67, R2 = 0.90, p < 0.05). The study provides the first detailed account of the morphometric relationships and reproductive biology of O. niloticus in Lake Shala, which can be used as baseline information for successive biological-based studies in Soda Lakes of Ethiopia.

Biofloc technology (BFT) systems provides an additional protein source for fish by converting waste in microbial flocs. Therefore, we aimed to determine the difference in the protein levels of the diet of Far Eastern catfish Silurus asotus reared in BFT and FW systems. We applied a two-way (six protein levels × two aquaculture systems) ANOVA design. We formulated six experimental diets to contain different protein levels (CPs)- 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, 40% and 45%-referred to as the CP20, CP25, CP30, CP35, CP40 and CP45 diets, respectively. We randomly distributed 900 fish into 36 (18 each for BFT and FW), 300 L tanks (25 fish/tank) with three replications of each diet for 4 weeks. The weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) considerably improved as the dietary protein level increased in the formulated diets. The BFT fish showed higher growth performance with any experimental diet than the FW fish. The growth performance of the fish fed the BFT-CP35 diet was higher than that of the fish fed the FW-CP45 diet. In conclusion, the cultivation of Far Eastern catfish (S. asotus) in BFTs can be carried out under reduced dietary protein levels.
We evaluated a worm-based extruded pellet diet with black soldier fly Hermetia illucens larvae (BSF) meal and BSF oil for olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus through field feeding experiments at a commercial aquafarm. We prepared two experimental diets by replacing fish meal and fish oil with BSF meal and BSF oil (BEP-1, BSF meal 7%, BSF oil 1%) and (BEP-2, BSF oil 2%), respectively. We prepared raw-fish based moist pellets (MP) for comparison between the two experimental diets. We distributed the olive flounder (220±6.29 g) in square (10 m×10 m×1 m) concrete, 100 ton tanks at a density of 1,600 fish per tank (n=3) in triplicate for each dietary treatment. We fed the diets to the fish to apparent satiation for 7 months. At the end of the feeding trial, we found no substantial differences between the groups in terms of growth performance, survival, or feed utilization. None of the diet groups showed any changes in either hematological or non-specific immune responses. The histological observation of the intestine showed that the goblet cell number and cholecystokinin-producing cell activity increased in the fish fed the BEP diet compared with the those of the fish fed the MP diet. These results indicated that dietary BSF meal and oil can be used for olive flounder without compromising growth or, hematological and histological parameters.

The management of size and weight, which are the growth information of aquaculture fish in fish-farms, is the most basic goal. In this study, the epoch is defined in fish-farms from the time of stocking or dividing to the time of shipment, and the growth data for a total of three epoch is analyzed from a time series perspective. Growth information such as the size and weight of aquaculture fish that occur over time in fish-farms is compared and analyzed with water quality environmental information and feeding information, and a model is presented using the analysis results. In this study, linear, exponential, and logarithmic regression models are presented using the Box-Jenkins method for size and weight by epoch using data obtained in the field.
