Fish community study by a gill net in four coastal waters of Southern Sea, Korea were simultaneously conducted to determine seasonal variation of species composition and abundance from March to November, 2006. A total of 68 species and 577,422.9 g by four study waters were caught during the survey period. The dominant species were Platycephalus indicus, Mugil cephalus, Cynoglossus robustus and Argyrosomus argentatus of 58.2% in total catch and they occupied 63.1% in IRD (index of relative distribution). By regional community, fishes that compromised 18 species and 53,148.8 g in Tongyeong Donam were caught and the dominant species were Platycephalus indicus, Hexagrammos otakii, Liparis tessellatus, Paralichthys olivaceus. In Yeosu Gyedong, fishes of 44species and 123,926.9 g were caught and the dominant species were Platycephalus indicus, Muraenesox cinereus. In Jangheung Sumoon, fishes of 44 species and 123,926.9 g were caught and the dominant species were Mugil cephalus, Platycephalus indicus, Cynoglossus robustus, Liparis tessellatus. And in Jindo Modo, fishes of 32 species and 171,426.3 g were caught and the dominant species were Platycephalus indicus, Argyrosomus argentatus, Cynoglossus robustus. Therefore, the species composition and abundance of fish by region were very different. These results seem to be related to differences of regional environmental condition, productivity, and fish ecological habits. And the fish catch in four study waters were high from April to July, and the number of fish species and diversity index had a tendency to increased from March to November. The ranges of environmental factors caught fish were $8.3{\sim}28.5^{\circ}C$ in temperature, 26.59~34.92 in salinity and also these factors were correlated to seasonal variation of fish.

Beta diversity is an efficient means of assessing the spatial variation in community composition among sites. To present fish community variation and LCBD (Local Contribution to Beta Diversity) among sites in stream, 6 sampling sites were selected in Cheonggye stream. Fish communities, environmental and habitat variables were collected at sites from April 2014 to October 2015. We used the total variance of the fish community data table (site-by-species community table) based on different forms, presence-absence, abundance, and Hellinger transformation, to estimate and compare beta diversity and LCBD. Fish community data table transformed by Hellinger distance showed the higher values of beta diversity than presence-absence and abundance data table. A similar patterns of LCBD were observed with presence-absence and Hellinger transformed data table. Low value of beta diversity calculated by community data table with abundance was due to the non-normality of fish assemblage data. Additionally, correlation coefficients were calculated to evaluate the relationships among LCBD, community indices and physicochemical variables. LCBD showed negative correlation coefficients with Shannon diversity. Overall, application of beta diversity analysis is an efficient method of addressing spatial variation of fish communities and ecological uniqueness of the sites in stream.
Interannual and decadal scale changes in body size of Pacific saury, catch and catch per unit effort were examined to investigate the environmental effects on the stock structure and abundance in the Tsushima Warm Current region. Interannual changes in thermal conditions are responsible for the different occurrence (catch) rates of sized group of the fish. Changes in body size due to environmental variables lead the stock to be homogeneous during the period of high abundance, while one of the reminder cohorts supports the stock during the period of low level of abundance. Migration circuits of two cohorts of saury stock are hypothesized on the basis of short life span and spatio-temporal changes of the stock structure in normal environmental conditions. Changes in upper ocean structure and production cycles by the decadal scale climate changes lead changes in stock structure and recruitment, resulting in the fluctuation of saury abundance. Hypothesized mechanism of the effects of climate changes on stock structure and abundance is illustrated on the basis of changes in thermal regime and production cycle.

The aim of this study was to compare community structure of larval fish species in the northern East China Sea during normal meteorological conditions in autumn 2009, during the El Ni$\tilde{n}$o period in 2009-2010, and during the La Nina period in 2010. Fifty taxa were recorded during the study period; the most dominant species were Benthosema pterotum and Gobiidae spp. In October 2008 during the normal period, warm water from the Tsushima Warm Current (TWC) intruded more into the surface and middle layers, and cold water affected by the Yellow Sea Cold Water (YSCW) intruded into the bottom layer. In October 2009 during the El Ni$\tilde{n}$o period, intrusion of the China Coastal Water (CCW), which has low salinity (<32.2 psu), was more apparent than intrusion of the TWC or YSCW. In October 2010 during the La Nina period, intrusion of the TWC and CCW was relatively weak, resulting in the lowest temperature and highest salinity observed during the study period in the eastern part of the study area. Hierarchical cluster, one-way ANOSIM (analysis of similarities), and SIMPER (similarity-percentages procedure) analyses provided two main results. First, the abundance of the most dominant larval fish species in autumn of the normal period was greater than that in autumn of the El Ni$\tilde{n}$o/La Nina periods, resulting in a significant difference in ichthyoplankton community structure between the periods. The abundance of Benthosema pterotum increased in the normal period, possibly influenced by the intrusion of cold water from the YSCW; the abundance of species residing in Korean waters (e.g., Gobiidae spp.) probably decreased during the El Ni$\tilde{n}$o/La Nina periods. The second finding was that the abundance of subtropical larval fish in autumn of the normal period was generally larger than that during autumn of the El Ni$\tilde{n}$o/La Nina periods. This could have been induced by the stronger intrusion of warm water from the TWC during the normal period. Although differences in oceanographic conditions between El Ni$\tilde{n}$o and La Nina periods were observed, the differences in ichthyoplankton community structure between the two periods were not significant.

The fishways at Namdae-cheon and Osib-cheon were investigated from July 1998 through October 1999. There are three types of fishways on these rivers. those are baffied fishway, fish ladder, and fish ladder with gabion. Namdae-cheon has 7 baffled fishways and 19 fish ladders, and Osib-cheon has 7 gabion fishways. On namdae-cheon, 1,775 fishes of 24 species were collected. Among these fishes, 452 fishes of 11 species were anadromous fishes occupying 46% in species and 25% in number. On Osib-cheon, 1,953 fishes of 24 species were collected. Among these fishes, 483 fishes of 5 species were anadromous fishes occupying 21% in species and 25% in number. On Namdae-cheon the species number and abundance decreased gradually upstream. The poor structure of fishways seems to have worked as an obstacle to the upstream migration of fishes in the Namdae-cheon . On Osib-cheon all the observed fish species except three-spined stickleback(Gasterosteus aculeatus aculeatus) which stay and spawn around downstream of fiver could migrate upstream. The good structure of fishways on this river is thought to have helped upstream fish migration.
Seasonal variation in species composition and abundance of shallow water fish off Yongwon, Jinhae in the southern coast of Korea was determined by the analysis of monthly samples collected by a beach seine from January to December, 1998. Among 54 species identified, the resident species such as Favonigobius gymnauchen, Chaenogobius laevis, Pholis nebulosa and juvenile Hyporhamphus intermedius were predominated in abundance. The temporal species such as Sardinella zunasi, Leiognathus nuchalis and Takifugu niphobles were collected between April and September. Mean abundance (322 individuals/1000 $m^2$ or 806 g/1000 $m^2$) was higher than that in the shallow sand surf zone of Teachon, but lower than that in the shallow mud area of Chonsu Bay in the western coast of Korea. A large number of H. intermedius were collected in cold months between November and January. The dominant resident species began to be collected from february, and the number of species and biomass were increased until July. A small number of temporal species were collected and subsequently the abundance was low from August to October when high abundance was expected as in the other shallow waters by recruitment of a large number of juveniles of temporal species. The low abundance in these warm months seemed to be related to the water quality by weak water circulation in this shallow mud area.
The Sembilan Archipelago is famous for its great biodiversity, in which the humphead wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus) (locally named Napoleon fish) is the primary commodity (economically important), and currently, the environmental degradation occurs due to anthropogenic activities. This study aimed to examine the eco-environmental parameters and assess their influence on the abundance of humphead wrasse and other coral reef fish compositions in the Sembilan Archipelago. Direct field monitoring was performed using a visual census throughout an approximately one km transect. Coral cover data collection and assessment were also carried out. A coastal water quality index (CWQI) was used to assess the water quality status. Furthermore, statistical-based analyses [hierarchical clustering, Pearson's correlation, principal component analysis (PCA), and canonical correspondence analysis (CCA)] were performed to examine the correlation between eco-environmental parameters. The Napoleon fish was only found at stations 1 and 2, with a density of about 3.8 Ind/ha, aligning with the dominant composition of the family Serranidae (covering more than 15% of the total community) and coinciding with the higher coral mortality and lower reef fish abundance. The coral reef conditions were generally ideal for supporting marine life, with a living coral percentage of about > 50% in all stations. Based on CWQI, the study area is categorized as good and excellent water quality. Of the 60 parameter values examined, the phytoplankton abundance, Napoleon fish, and temperature are highly correlated, with a correlation coefficient value greater than 0.7, and statistically significant (F < 0.05). Although the adaptation of reef fish to water quality parameters varies greatly, the most influential parameters in shaping their composition in the study area are living corals, nitrites, ammonia, larval abundance, and temperature.
A total of 353 farmed rockfish, Sebastes schlegli Hilgendorf, 1880 were sampled from 3 localities on Korean coastline over a 12 month period. Full parasitological examination revealed the polypisthocotylean monogenean Micorcotyle sebastis Goto, 1894 to be abundant with infections consistently reaching over 90~100% prevalence throughout the year. A seasonal pattern in parasite abundance on the gills is evident, with the population peaking twice, the largest in winter and again in summer. While the parasitic load on the left and right gills was not dissimilar, parasites within the gill sets were found to favour settlement of the II and III gill arches. A comparison of parasite abundance with host length, revealed that the smaller length fish classes (<17cm standard body length) had significantly heavier infections than those of larger fish (>17 cm standard body length). This report represents the fist record of Microcotyle sebastis on farmed rockfish in Korean coastal waters.

Fish assemblages in a sandy shore and an eelgrass bed were compared based on monthly samples in the southern coastal water of Korea. Samples were collected by a beam trawl in the sandy shore and a surf net in the eelgrass from March to February 2012. The common fish species were Syngnathus schlegeli, Pseudoblennius cottoides, Pholis nebulosa, Favonigobius gymnauchen, Gymnogobius heptacanthus, Pseudopleuronectes yokohamae, Takifugu niphobles. Among them S. schlegeli, Urocampus nanus, P. cottoides, P. nebulosa, T. niphobles were high abundance in the eelgrass bed than in the sandy shore, whereas Acanthogobius flavimanus, Acentrogobius pflaumi, F. gymnauchen, G. heptacanthus, P. yokohamae were high in the sandy shore. Aulichthys japonicus, Hippocampus coronatus, Sebastes inermis, Lateolabrax japonicus, Siganus fuscescens were found in the eelgrass bed, and Thryssa hamiltoni, Mugil cephalus, Inimicus japonicus, Platycephalus indicus, Hexagrammos otakii, Furcina ishikawae, Liparis tanakae, Repomucenus curvicornis, and Eutaeniichthys gilli were observed in the sandy shore. Species composition and abundance varied seasonally in two habitats; The number of species and abundance was high in August and September, while biomass was the highest in April and September. Fish numbers as well as biomass were lowest in February. Number of individuals and biomass of fish in the eelgrass bed were significantly higher than those of in the sandy shore. Some fish preferred to live in the eelgrass were collected in the sandy shore, while fish preferred to live in the sandy shore were rarely collected in the eelgrass.
