  • As grouting materials for ground improvement, silicate materials such as water glass, silica-sol and so forth are used worldwide. However, they may pollute underground water. In this study, fish poison test(Korean standard industrial code KS M 0111) which estimates toxicity for fish is applied to evaluate the toxic effect by grouting materials. From the test result of the sample made of LW, LC50(Median Lethal Concentration) reaches within 24 hours. In case of the silica-sol, it does not even in 96 hours. Therefore, we can conclude that the sililca-sol grouting method is more free from the danger of underground water pollution. From the result that the mortality of fish under the condition of pH 8.6 is 0% within 96 hours, the groundwater can be saved by controlling pH below 8.6 for the grouting in the field.

  • The main objective of this paper is to control a trajectory tracking of the fish-mimetic robot by CPG (Central Pattern Generator), which is biological approach. CPG is biological neural networks that generate rhythmic movements for locomotion of animals, such as walking, running, swimming and flying. Animals show marvelous ability of autonomous dynamic adaptation for an unsteady fluid dynamic environment or various environments. So, we propose the 3-DOF CPG controller to track the trajectory of the fish robot in plane motion. The conformity of the proposed control algorithm is validated by simulation for a fish robot model, which is made by a commercial dynamic package.

  • Although cultured sweet smelt production recently have been rapidly increased from 89 metric tons (M/T) in 1997 to 500M/T In 1999 in Korea, wild fish have been still used as broodstock for cultured fish seed. This is considered due to having higher sperm and e99 qualify in wild fish broodstock than cultured fish. However, capturing a number of wild sweet smelt broodstock might lead to decreasing of the production of wild fish, In truth, of which production has been greatly decreased so that a number of artificial juvenile have been stocked some rivers in Korea. • This paper describes about a technique of generating music from the natural motion of fish which are detected via the running averaging background subtraction method. The motion of the fish will create musical notes on a background frame which will be analyzed and played by a music playing module that is proposed in this paper called "PhysicX". This module is also capable of interacting with the fishes. in the tank.

  • In the natural course of events, most human exposure to MeHg is through fish/shellfish consumption. The methylmercury exposure levels depends on the amount and species of fish/shellfish consumed daily. The developing brain in the late gestation period is known to be most vulnerable. Further, more methylmercury accumulates in the fetuses than in mothers. Therefore, efforts must be made to protect the fetuses from the risk of methylmercury, especially in populations which consume a lot of fish/shellfish.

  • The use of transgenic fish has so far been chiefly limited by the lack of predictable, strong, tissue specific, and position-independent expression of transgenes. For genetic analysis, expression of a marker transgene, easily screenable in the living fish, could facilitate studies of gene targeting, insertional mutagenesis, lineage, and mutational analysis. • Although flounder is one of the most important marine fish for aquaculture in Korea, feeding the flounder in commercial farms depends mainly on moist pellet in which over 70% frozen fishes (e.g. frozen horse mackerel) are incorporated in its formulation. Therefore, for further expansion of flounder farming, it is essential to employ practical formulated feeds that can support reasonable growth. Development of nutritionally balanced and cost-effective feeds is dependant on the information about nutritional requirement and feed utilization of the species. Nutrient and energy source in feed are needed for the growth and maintenance of fish. Protein is probably the most important nutrient affecting fish growth and feed cost. Therefore, it is essential to determine the optimum dietary protein level for the growth of fish, both its high proportion in the feed and because it is the main factor in determining feed cost. Dietary energy level is also critical because protein source in the feed is utilized as an energy source when the feed deficient in energy is fed to fish, whereas when the feed excess in energy is fed to fish, feed consumption decreased and resulted in growth reduction due to lack of other necessary nutrients for normal growth. Improper dietary protein, energy levels and/or their ratio will lead to an increase of fish production cost and deterioration of water quality resulting from wasted feed; thus, they are important in formulating commercial feed. Dietary lipids play important roles in providing energy and essential fatty acid for normal growth and survival of fish. Although carbohydrates are not essential nutrients for carnivorous fish, these compounds play important roles as a low-cost energy source for protein sparing and also as a feed binder. Nutrition researches for flounder have identified its requirements of protein, lipid and essential fatty acid, vitamin, and minerals for normal growth. Other studies have also been carried out to investigate the utilization of the protein, lipid and carbohydrate sources. Based on these nutritional information obtained, practical feed formulations have been studied for improve aquaculture production of flounder. The results of the researches on utilization of dietary protein, lipid and carbohydrate by flounder are discussed in this review.
