Analytical solutions to piezoelectric bimorphs based on improved FSDT beam model

  • This paper presents an efficient and accurate coupled beam model for piezoelectric bimorphs based on improved first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The model combines the equivalent single layer approach for the mechanical displacements and a layerwise modeling for the electric potential. General electric field function is proposed to reasonably approximate the through-the-thickness distribution of the applied and induced electric potentials. Layerwise defined shear correction factor (k) accounting for nonlinear shear strain distribution is introduced into both the shear stress resultant and the electric displacement integration. Analytical solutions for free vibrations and forced response under electromechanical loads are obtained for the simply supported piezoelectric bimorphs with series or parallel arrangement, and the numerical results for various length-to-thickness ratios are compared with the exact two-dimensional piezoelasticity solution. Excellent predictions with low error estimates of local and global responses as well as the modal frequencies are observed.

  • An analysis of the turbo-blower shaft attached to fuel cell using 3-D FEA (Finite Element Analysis) is proposed by Lanczos algorithm. The modal analysis was peformed in order to investigate natural frequencies for 10 times. It is found that the first mode of natural frequency is 111.243 and the maximum displacement is 0.16mm Consequently, It is found that the dynamic design of turbo-blower shows a good responses transiently.

향수제품 디자인을 위한 색과 향의 교차-양상 연상관계 (Cross-Modal Associations between Colors and Fragrances for Commercial Perfume Design)

  • 향수제품의 향에 적합한 색을 향수병과 포장지에 적용함으로써, 제품의 향을 소비자들에게 효과적으로 전달할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 두 개의 실험연구를 통해 색과 향의 교차-양상 연상관계를 조사하였다. 첫 번째 실험에서는 현재 시장에 출시되어 있는 약 200여개 향수병의 색을 분석하여 향의 종류에 따른 차별화된 색채 디자인 패턴을 발견하였다. 두 번째 실험에서는 국내 소비자들을 대상으로 향과 색의 대응관계를 조사하였다. 향수병을 볼 수 없는 상황에서 피실험자들에게 세 가지 향수제품의 향을 맡은 후 연상되는 색을 선택하게 하였다. 그 결과 세 가지 향수제품 모두 차별화된 색상(hue) 대응이 이루어졌고, 선정된 색상은 실제 향수병의 색상과 상당히 유사한 색상 영역에 분포하였다. 또한 향수제품의 세 가지 향 노트(상향, 중향, 하향)에 따라 연상되는 색의 현저한 톤(tone) 변화를 발견하였다. 위의 두 가지 실험을 통해 시중에 판매되고 있는 향수제품에 있어 향과 색 간의 뚜렷한 교차-양상 연상관계가 있음을 제안하였다.

Experimental modal analysis of transverse-cracked rails-influence of the cracks on the real track behavior

  • Rails are key elements in railway superstructure since these elements receive directly the train load transmitted by the wheels. Simultaneously, rails must provide effective stress transference to the rest of the track elements. This track element often deteriorates as a consequence of the vehicle passing or manufacturing imperfections that cause in rail several defects. Among these rail defects, transverse cracks highlights and are considered a severe pathology because they can suddenly trigger the rail failure. This study is focused on UIC-60 rails with transverse cracks. A 3-D FEM model is developed in ANSYS for the flawless rail in which conditions simulating the crack presence are implemented. To account for the inertia loss of the rail as a consequence of the cracking, a reduction of the bending stiffness of the rail is considered. The numerical models have been calibrated using the first four bending vibration modes in terms of frequencies. These vibration frequencies have been obtained using the Experimental Modal Analysis technique, studying the changes in the modal parameters of the rails induced by the crack and comparing the results obtained by the model with experimental results. Finally, the calibrated and validated models for the single rail have been implemented in a complete railway ballasted track FEM model in order to study the static influence of the cracks on the rail deflection caused by a load passing.

휴대폰 환경에서의 근적외선 얼굴 및 홍채 다중 인식 연구 (A Study on Multi-modal Near-IR Face and Iris Recognition on Mobile Phones)

  • 휴대폰에서 보안 필요성이 증가함에 따라 개인 인증을 위하여 홍채, 지문, 얼굴과 같은 단일 생체 정보를 이용한 많은 연구들이 진행되었으나 단일 생체 인식에서는 인식 정확도에 한계가 있었다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 휴대폰 환경에서 고 인식율을 위해 얼굴과 홍채를 결합하는 방법에 대해 제안한다. 본 논문에서는 근적외선 조명과 근적외선 통과 필터를 부착한 휴대폰의 메가 픽셀 카메라를 사용하여 근적외선 얼굴 및 홍채 영상을 동시에 취득한 후, SVM(Support Vector Machine)을 기반으로 스코어 레벨에서 결합하였다. 또한, 저 연산의 로가리듬(Logarithm) 알고리즘을 사용한 얼굴 데이터의 조명 변화에 대한 정규화와 극 좌표계 변환 및 홍채 코드의 비트 이동 매칭에 의한 홍채 영역의 이동, 회전, 확대 및 축소에 대한 정규화를 통해 SVM의 분류 복잡도와 얼굴, 홍채 데이터의 본인 변화도를 최소화함으로써 인식 정확도를 향상시켰으며, 저 연산의 휴대폰 환경에서 정수혈 기반의 얼굴 및 홍채 인식 알고리즘을 사용하여 처리시간을 향상시켰다. 실험 결과, SVM을 사용한 인식의 정확성이 단일 생체(얼굴 또는 홍채), SUM, MAX, MIN 그리고 Weighted SUM을 사용하는 것보다 우수한 것을 알 수 있었다.

겨울철 도시지역 대기 수용성 에어로졸 입자의 크기 분포를 결정하는 주요 인자 (Major factors determining the size distributions of atmospheric water-soluble aerosol particles at an urban site during winter)

  • Size distributions of atmospheric particulate matter (PM) and its water-soluble organic and inorganic components were measured between January and February 2021 at an urban site in Gwangju in order to identify the major factors that determine their size distributions. Their size distributions during the study period were mainly divided into two groups. In the first group, PM, NO3-, SO42-, NH4+ and water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) exhibited bi-modal size distributions with a dominant condensation mode at a particle size of 0.32 ㎛. This group was dominated by local production of secondary water-soluble components under atmospheric stagnation and low relative humidity (RH) conditions, rather than long-range transportation of aerosol particles from China. On the other hand, in the second group, they showed tri-modal size distributions with a very pronounced droplet mode at a diameter of 1.0 ㎛. These size distributions were attributable to the local generation and accumulation of secondary aerosol particles under atmospheric conditions such as atmospheric stagnation and high RH, and an increase in the influx of atmospheric aerosol particles by long-distance transportation abroad. Contributions of droplet mode NO3-, SO42-, NH4+ and WSOC to fine particles in the second group were significantly higher than those in the first group period. However, their condensation mode contributions were about two-fold higher in the first group than in the second group. The significant difference in the size distribution of the accumulation mode of the WSOC and secondary ionic components between the two groups was due to the influx of aerosol particles with a long residence time by long-distance transport from China and local weather conditions (e.g., RH).

고낙차 수력 펌프/터빈 런너에 대한 진동 모드해석 및 실험 (Modal Analysis and Testing of a High Head Pump/Turbine Runner)

  • This paper describes the vibration characteristics of a high head pump-turbine runner. with nine blades and an outer diameter of 4.410 mm. of the pumped storage power plant. Mode shapes and natural frequencies were obtained by means of both the finite element analysis and modal testing. both in air and in water. The natural frequencies in air were calculated using the finite element method by ANSYS software. In order to confirm calculation results. the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the runner were measured using a hydraulic exciter both in air and in water. Natural frequencies of the pump-turbine runner were found at 174. 310 Hz in air, and at 107. 184 Hz in water. The first mode shape is flat plate mode with two nodal diameter and the second one is also flat plate mode with three nodal diameter. It can be shown that the natural frequencies of the pump-turbine runner in water is reduced approximately 40 % due to additional mass effect. Natural frequencies in air predicted by ANSYS software are in good agreement with test results.

SSA-based stochastic subspace identification of structures from output-only vibration measurements

  • In this study an output-only system identification technique for civil structures under ambient vibrations is carried out, mainly focused on using the Stochastic Subspace Identification (SSI) based algorithms. A newly developed signal processing technique, called Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA), capable to smooth a noisy signal, is adopted for preprocessing the measurement data. An SSA-based SSI algorithm with the aim of finding accurate and true modal parameters is developed through stabilization diagram which is constructed by plotting the identified system poles with increasing the size of data matrix. First, comparative study between different approaches, with and without using SSA to pre-process the data, on determining the model order and selecting the true system poles is examined in this study through numerical simulation. Finally, application of the proposed system identification task to the real large scale structure: Canton Tower, a benchmark problem for structural health monitoring of high-rise slender structures, using SSA-based SSI algorithm is carried out to extract the dynamic characteristics of the tower from output-only measurements.

Linear elastic and limit state solutions of beam string structures by the Ritz-method

  • The beam string structure (BSS) has been widely applied in large span roof structures, while no analytical solutions of BSS were derived for it in the existing literature. In the first part of this paper, calculation formulas of displacement and internal forces were obtained by the Ritz-method for the most commonly used arc-shaped BSS under the vertical uniformly distributed load and the prestressing force. Then, the failure mode of BSS was proposed based on the static equilibrium. On condition the structural stability was reliable, BSS under the uniformly distributed load would fail by tensile strength failure of the string, and the beam remained in the elastic or semi-plastic range. On this basis, the limit load of BSS was given in virtue of the elastic solutions. In order to verify the linear elastic and limit state solutions proposed in this paper, three BSS modal were tested and the corresponding elastoplastic large deformation analysis was performed by the ANSYS program. The proposed failure mode of BSS was proved to be correct, and the analytical results for the linear elastic and limit state were in good agreement with the experimental and FEM results.

개선된 알고리즘을 이용한 그루브를 통한 표면형상변형 동특성 변경법 (Structural Dynamics Modification Using Surface Grooving Technique : Modified Algorithm and Result of Fine HDD Cover Model)

  • Structural Dynamics Modification (SDM) is a very effective technique to improve structure's dynamic characteristics by adding or removing auxiliary structures, changing material properties and shape of structure. Among those of SDM technique, the method to change shape of structure has been mostly relied on engineer's experience and trial-and-error process which are very time consuming. In order to develop a systematic method to change structure shape, surface grooving technique is studied and successfully applied to HDD cover model. At first, to check the effect of mesh size, surface grooving technique was tested to the fine HDD cover FEmodel. And fur the more efficient method, the algorithm is modified. Removing the low-valued modal strain energy element among the target domain, computational effort can be greatly reduced and the result of simulation is similar with the other simulation result.
