  • Western missionary nurses practiced in Korea from 1891. and the first trial to begin missionary public health nursing service in 1909 could not put into practice for short of nursing staff and budget. The main focus of missionary medical practice was not in public health program but in the management of missionary hospitals. A few of missionary western R.N. tried district nursing in 1910s. but their activities were personal and focused on the rescue of poor and sick patients. In 1917 the North American Methodist Church dispatched R.N. Elizabeth S. Roberts to begin district nursing in Korea. Roberts began maternal and child district nursing service. Her service was focused on teaching the method of bringing up children. bathing service, and home visiting for delivery. She could not but stop district-nursing service in 1918 to serve for a hospital in Siberia. The North American Methodist Church dispatched a few of R.N. to Korea in early 1920s and the missionary public health nursing of Korea could be activated. R.N. E. T. Rosenberger began public health nursing program in Seoul with Korean graduate nurse, Shin-gwang Han, and missionary M.D. Hall. Their public health nursing program was focused on maternal and childcare. They did home visiting in the morning, and served at a well baby clinic in the afternoon. The first baby competition began in 1925. and contributed to the teaching the method of bringing up children. They expanded public health nursing activity to school health nursing and milk station. Their public health nursing program was such a success that In 1929 Severance hospital. Eastgate Hospital. Taehwa Social Evangelistic center organized Seoul Child Health Union. Maren P. Bording, another missionary R.N. and midwife dispatched by the North American Methodist Church began public health nursing program at Kongjoo in 1924. Her program was focused on the maternal and childcare and close to that of Seoul. She started the first milk station in Korea in 1926. As she was a midwife and could get M. D. license in Korea, her program was more focused on maternal care than that of Seoul. The first day nursery school in Korea and the first graduate course for public health nursing in Korea began at Kongjoo in 1930. As the city of Choongcheongnam Province moved from Kongjoo to Daejeon in 1932, missionary public health nursing service in Kongjoo extended to Daejeon. There were lots of public health nursing program in Korea in 1920s and 1930s by missionary western nurses and Korean nurses. There were 13 missionary public health-nursing center in Korea in 1932. But in the late 1930s. Japan extended colonial war and drove out western missionaries. The missionary service in Korea was daunted. and the missionary public health nursing service could not but shrink.

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically examine the customers' perceived service quality and response in the field of hotel industry. The subjects of survey for this empirical analyses are limited to the customers of deluxe hotels in Korea; data are collected from the 16 deluxe hotels amongst 27 of its kind in the Seoul, Pusan, Cheju and Kyongju area. SAS package is used for Simple Regression, Multiple Regression and the results are as follows: First, the perceived service quality shows significantly positive effect upon the customers' satisfaction; Second, the customers' perceived service quality shows significantly positive with respect to the customers' response; Third, the customers' satisfaction shows significantly positive regarding the customers' response, and the customers' satisfaction have greater influence upon the customers' response than the customers' perceived service quality; On the basis of the above empirical analyses, I propose the management implication as follows: First, the hotel management staffs should have a close relation with their customers through the customers' positive, and eventually be concemed about improving service quality and customers' satisfaction to maximize the enterprise's performance; Second, the hotel management staffs, to induce and build up the positive customers' response, should have interest in serving high-quality products and service and enforcing the proper price policy.

  • We first develop a value ecosystem framework to model the SDP(Service Delivery Process) of web services. Since the web service has been evolving from the basic web architecture (e.g., traditional world wide web) to a prosuming platform based on virtualization technologies, the proposed framework of the value ecosystem focuses on capturing the key characteristics of SDP in each type of web services. Even though they share the basic elements such as PP(Platform Provider), CA(Customization Agency) and user group, the SDP in the traditional web services (so-called Web1.0 in this paper) is quite different from the most recent one (so-called Web2.0). In our value ecosystem, users are uniformly distributed over (0, ${\Delta}$), where ${\Delta}$represents the variety level of users' preference on the web service level. PP and CA provide a standard level of web service(s) and prosuming service package, respectively. CA in Web1.0 presents a standard customization package($s_a$) at flat rate c, whereas PP and CA collaborate and provide customization service with a usage-based scheme. We employ a multi-stage game model to analyze and compare the SDPs in Web1.0 and Web2.0. Our findings through analysis and numerical simulations are as follows. First, the user group is consecutively segmented, and the pattern of the segmentations varies across Web1.0 and Web2.0. The standardized service level s (from PP) is higher in Web1.0, whereas the amount of information created in the value ecosystem is bigger in Web2.0. This indicates the role of CA would be increasingly critical in Web2.0: in particular, for fulfilling the needs of prosuming and service customization.

  • Most published work on product quality focuses on manufactured goods. The subject of service quality has received less attention. This distinction is important because some of the quality-improving strategies avaliable to manufacturers may be inappropriate for service firms. Services are performances, not objects. They are often produced in the presence of the customer, as in the cause of hotel restaurant services, quality occurs during service delivery, usually in an interaction between the customer and contact personnel of service firm. for this reason, service quality is highly dependent on the performance of employees, an organizational resource that cannot be controlled to the degree that components of tangible goods can be engineered. The study has begun as a basic study for customer satisfaction-oriented management in understanding the service quality of food & beverage products and through a systematic analysis of it. The major purpose of the study was to examine the relationship of the customer satisfaction and service quality in consideration of reliability, empathy, responsiveness, tangibility and assurance. An empirical research was conducted based on the previous theoretical studies. 286 customer at first class hotels in Seoul were selected as samples of this study. The time period of research was from February through March 1999, and answers were processed by SAS to yield frequency analysis, multivariate statistical analysis and regression analysis. The finding of the statistical treatment are frequencies, factor analysis, multiple regression analysis, path analysis. SERVQUAL method was used the service quality evaluation methods. After factor analysis, it was resulted to 3 factors. those were factor 1(assurance.empathy.responsiveness), factor 2(reliability), factor 3(tangibility). The findings of the statistical treatment are as follows. First, the attribute measurement of performance service quality was affected by customer satisfaction. Second, the attribute measurement of performance service qualify was affected by repurchase intention. Third, The attribute measurement of performance customer satisfaction was affected by repurchase intention. The result of study model was followed, service quality was affected repurchase intention than customer satisfaction. indirected effect through, service duality and customer satisfaction was affected repurchase intention.

  • In order to implement the smart home environment, we need an intelligence service platform that learns the user's life style and behavioral patterns, and recommends appropriate services to the user. The intelligence service platform should embed a couple of effective and efficient data mining algorithms for learning from the data that is gathered from the smart home environment. In this study, we evaluate the suitability of data mining algorithms for smart home intelligent service platforms. In order to do this, we first develop an intelligent service scenario for smart home environment, which is utilized to derive functional and technical requirements for data mining algorithms that is equipped in the smart home intelligent service platform. We then evaluate the suitability of several data mining algorithms by employing the analytic hierarchy process technique. Applying the analytical hierarchy process technique, we first score the importance of functional and technical requirements through a hierarchical structure of pairwise comparisons made by experts, and then assess the suitability of data mining algorithms for each functional and technical requirements. There are several studies for smart home service and platforms, but most of the study have focused on a certain smart home service or a certain service platform implementation. In this study, we focus on the general requirements and suitability of data mining algorithms themselves that are equipped in smart home intelligent service platform. As a result, we provide a general guideline to choose appropriate data mining techniques when building a smart home intelligent service platform.

  • Priority disciplines are an important scheme for service systems to differentiate their services for different classes of customers. (N, n)-preemptive priority disciplines enable system engineers to fine-tune the performances of different classes of customers arriving to the system. Due to this virtue of controllability, (N, n)-preemptive priority queueing models can be applied to various types of systems in which the service performances of different classes of customers need to be adjusted for a complex objective. In this paper, we extend the existing (N, n)-preemptive resume and (N, n)-preemptive repeat-identical priority queueing models to the (N, n)-preemptive repeat-different priority queueing model. We derive the queue-length distributions in the M/G/1 queueing model with two classes of customers, under the (N, n)-preemptive repeat-different priority discipline. In order to derive the queue-length distributions, we employ an analysis of the effective service time of a low-priority customer, a delay cycle analysis, and a joint transformation method. We then derive the first and second moments of the queue lengths of high- and low-priority customers. We also present a numerical example for the first and second moments of the queue length of high- and low-priority customers. Through doing this, we show that, under the (N, n)-preemptive repeat-different priority discipline, the first and second moments of customers with high priority are bounded by some upper bounds, regardless of the service characteristics of customers with low priority. This property may help system engineers design such service systems that guarantee the mean and variance of delay for primary users under a certain bounds, when preempted services have to be restarted with another service time resampled from the same service time distribution.

  • Customers are now demanding ever better service from customer service representatives (CSRs) to create superior customer service. Accordingly, CSRs are required to have more specialized knowledge and abilities of customer service. This study examines the roles of accumulated customer knowledge in electronic knowledge repositories (EKRs), which a firm has developed for customer service over time to enhance CSRs' work capabilities and work performance, in the context of call centers. To test the proposed research model and hypotheses, we conducted LISREL analysis using 261 responses collected on CSRs working for inbound call centers. The key results are as follows. First, accumulated customer knowledge in EKRs enhances CSRs' knowledge utilization and service expertise during the customer contact. Second, CSRs' knowledge utilization reinforces service expertise. Finally, service quality depends on CSRs' knowledge utilization and service expertise, but it is not directly related to accumulated customer knowledge. Overall, the findings suggest that accumulated customer knowledge in EKRs enhances CSRs' knowledge utilization and service expertise, and thereby leading to superior service quality.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to suggest the qualification criteria for the instructors of first aid education for teachers in the School Health Act. Methods: We compared and analyzed the approval provisions for qualifying as first aid educators under the School Health Act, the Emergency Medical Services Act, and prior studies of first aid education. Results: The comparison of the studies demonstrated some key points. First, the first aid education of teachers could be improved through the knowledge of professional instructors. Second, the doctors, emergency nurse practitioners, and emergency medical technicians (EMT) were suitable as specialized first aid instructors. Third, for qualifying as first aid instructor, only the EMTs required more than five years of career. Conclusion: We suggest that all emergency medical service providers qualify to become first aid educators. Additionally, the requirement of EMTs to have more than 5 years of career to qualify as an instructor should be eliminated.

  • The GTS(Guaranteed Time Slot) of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, which is the contention free access mechanism, is used for low-latency applications or applications requiring specific data bandwidth. But it has some problems such as delay of service due to FIFS(First In First Service) scheduling. In this paper, we proposes a weight based GTS allocation scheme for fair queuing in IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN. The proposed scheme uses a weight that formed by how much more weight we give to the recent history than to the older history for a new GTS allocation. This scheme reduces service delay time and also guarantees transmission simultaneously within a limited time. The results of the performance analysis shows that our approach improves the performance as compared to the native explicit allocation mechanism defined in the IEEE 802.15.4 standard.
