Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate nursing students' awareness of biomedical ethics and attitudes toward death of terminal patients. Methods: A structured questionnaire was developed to examine nursing students' biomedical ethics. Their attitudes toward terminal patients' death were measured by using the Collett-Lester Fear of Death Scale. Surveys were conducted with 660 nursing students enrolled at a three-year college located in Daejeon, Korea. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon rank sum test and Kruskall Waills test. Results: Students who have experienced biomedical ethics conflicts, agreed to prohibition of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and have no religion exhibited more negative attitudes toward death compared to students without the above characteristics. Of the participants, 81.2% answered that life sustaining treatment for terminal patients should be discontinued and 76.4% replied that CPR on terminal patients should be prohibited. The majority of the correspondents stated that the two measures above are necessary "for patients' peaceful and dignified death". Conclusion: Study results indicate the need to establish a firm biomedical ethics value to help nursing students form a positive attitude toward death. It also seems necessary to offer students related training before going into clinical practice, if possible. The training program should be developed by considering students' religion, school year, experience with biomedical ethics conflicts and opinion about CPR on terminal patients. The program should also include an opportunity for students to experience terminal patient care in advance via simulation practice on standardized patients.

Demands in a sustainable coffee certification program have increased steadily in the global coffee market. Along with this trend, recently the introduction of sustainable coffee certification programs in Vietnam has increased significantly. However, Vietnam's the coffee certification programs led by a single state-owned company, which is called Vinacafe, shows some differentiations from other sustainable coffee programs certified in other countries. The structure of exclusive decision-making in Vinacafe has been interfered with economic impacts in accordance with the introduction of sustainable coffee certification programs in Vietnam. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to identify changes in and limits of the value chain of the coffee industry with the introduction of Vietnam's sustainable coffee certification program by investigating the case of Vinacafe. To this end, the research has attempted 1) to concern with the role of Vinacafe in the process of growth in the coffee industry in central highland of Vietnam, 2) to analyze changes stemmed from the introduction of Vinacafe's sustainable coffee certification programs, and 3) to examine the limits to the introduction of sustainable coffee certification programs in Vietnam. As a result, it found out that Vinacafe subsidiaries shifted the losses resulted in the payment of additional environmental costs to produce sustainable certification coffee onto coffee farmers depended on Vinacafe subsidiaries, because the price of premium emerged from supports for certificated coffee production has not been guaranteed by Vinacafe mother firm.
Amidst the growing uncertainty in external environments, securing and retaining superior human resources is becoming emphasized as a key means for organizations to achieve competitive advantages. Particularly, star employees-human resources that are characterized by their ability to create extraordinary performance relative to other peers-are increasingly gaining attention in both academia and industry because of its importance in knowledge-based industries. However, despite the prevailing recognition for star employees, few previous literature have attempted to empirically test the direct relationship between the ratio of star employees in an organization and organizational performance. Considering both the potential for positive and negative influence of star employees on organizations, the relationship between the ratio of star employees and organizational performance can not only be a simple linear relationship but can also exist in a curvilinear form. Building on the existing literature on star employees, this paper establishes competing hypotheses for the two possibilities of curvilinear relationship; as the ratio of star employees increases, marginal effects can either increase (i.e., U-shaped curvilinear relationship) or decrease (i.e., inverted U-shaped curvilinear relationship). Employing an unbalanced panel data of 35 Korean brokerage firms between years 2008 and 2013 with 134 observations, the relationship between the ratio of best analysts (i.e. star employees) as selected by Maeil Business Newspaper and financial performance (i.e. organizational performance) of corresponding brokerage firms is examined. Empirical results indicate that while organizational performance increases as the ratio of star employees increases, its positive effect diminishes over time which provides support for the curvilinear relationship with decreasing marginal effects. Our research findings imply that star employees create value in knowledge-based industries; at the same time, implications are given as results calls for caution for excessive dependence on star employees beyond a certain level.
Various factors affecting teachers' self-confidence exist in math class using technology such as graphic calculators. For example, internal factors such as teachers' attitude and external factors such as school administrators or colleague's support can be considered. Pedagogical Technology Knowledge(PTK) is the very important factor which determines teacher's self-confidence in educational technology, and the development of PTK is composed of teacher's perception on the technology and its application and instrumentation. This study investigated 19 pre-service and current middle and high school teachers in the respect of their change of self-confidence, attitude, expertise on pedagogical technology, and quality of math class. These are anlayzed with the concept of instrumentation and instrumentalization through various experiences like graphic calculator, GPS and AutoGraph. The result indicated that constraints or obstacles did not affect much if teachers' attitude and self-confidence were strong. Particularly teachers' firm will to learn about technology and their confidence on its value are the critical factors in using technology for mathematics class.
This study conducted an empirical analysis of SSE-listed companies to verify the effects of evaluation and disclosure of internal control systems on the agency costs management and controlling shareholders. Agency costs can affect the valuation of accounting information as asymmetry of information in the relationship between a company and its stakeholders, or induce financial costs as an adverse selection. If the firm's agency costs are reasonable, the valuation of the company can also move in a relatively positive direction. In this study, the evaluation information of the internal control system was analyzed through sales management ratio and equity ratio as substitute variables to analyze the relationship between management and agent costs of the controlling shareholders. In addition, independent control ratio, capital balance ratio, and company scale were used as control variables, as a result of the analysis, the evaluation information of internal control was found to be related to the agency costs of managers and governance structure. This study can be conducted to positive factors in evaluating the reliability and corporate value of accounting information according to the evaluation of internal control of SSE-listed companies and helps to understand the financial reporting environment.
Recently, the notion of "increasing returns" has been popular not only in academia but also in industries. This notion has been drawn from prior research on network effects, which showed that the market evolution would lock in to a dominant technology. However, the long history of technological change has rarely shown the possibility of lock-in to an inferior technology. How could the market with network effects make transition between incompatible technologies regimes by escaping the lock-in? This paper analyzes the effectiveness of R&D and technological choice to investigate the sources of the dynamic capabilities in the presence of network effects and uncertain technological progress. Why does the market sometimes work against a radical technology, and why, at other times, does the market operate in favor of it? This study is to address this question by modeling the situation of two competing technologies in the presence of network effects. The numerical analysis indicates that the evolution strategy of compatibility is more likely to increase the chance of firm growth when a majority of customers are not power users or when demand for an old technology has been escalated. But when there are a substantial number of power users or when a new technology emerges before such an escalation of demand, the revolution strategy of compelling performance is more likely to be effective. The result suggests a potential mechanism for overcoming the lock-in problem. When the market exhibits some inertia to an obsolete technology, which is reinforced by the increasing customer value with respect to backward compatibility, the survival of a new technology depends on power users. When many power users are cultivated by firms' technological efforts regarding the new technology, the market is less likely to lock into an obsolete technology. Indeed, in the workstation market, where power users characterize much of the demand, innovators like Sun successfully switched to the RISC architecture.
This study examines the relation between accruals components of earnings and stock return. Earnings are decomposed into four components: discretionary accruals, nondiscretionary accruals, nondiscretionary income and cash flow from operations. Because reported earnings in financial statement consist of cash flow from operations plus total accruals. We decompose total accruals into a discretionary accruals and a nondiscretionary accruals separately. This paper examines the incremental informational content of discretionary accruals and nondiscretionary accruals components of net income by regressing return on earnings' components in multivariate models. The empirical analysis is conducted on a sample of 1,580 firm-years comprising 158 firms during 1991-2003. discretionary accruals are obtained by decomposing total accruals into discretionary and nondiscretionary accruals conponents, using a pooled variation of the Jones model(1991). These findings suggest that the discretionary accruals(measured using a variation the Jones model) is priced by the stock market. Specifically, the discretionary accruals and cash flow from operations are positively associated with the stock return, and also nondiscretionary income, discretionary accruals are positively associated with the stock return. While this result is consistent with the market prices the discretionary accruals because it captures value-relevant information. Additional test report evidence consistent with nondiscretionary accruals conveying information about the stock return.

We can firmly refuse the balance of power and power shift of the Korean Peninsula through improved Homeland Defense Reservists. As the expected North Korea's the fourth-generation war threats, our Homeland Defense Reservists is a firm will of conduct war, and political-social-economic-military means, it is possible to display as the best alternative.

This study was carried out to investigate the utilization of pruned branch of a peach tree as natural dyeing material. The dyestuff was extracted from pruned branch of a peach tree. we examined the dyeing ability on silk and cotten fabrics. The surface color of silk fabrics differed depending on mordants. E values in treatments of mordants ranged from 11.63 to 30.86 as compared to non-treatment. Dyeing properties of cotten fabrics were improved with a treatment of sulfate of iron as compared with of non-treatment. The values a increased when the slaked lime and sodium hydroxide were used as mordants, while the values b increased when copper sulfate, alum and apple vinegar were used. We investigated the surface colors of silk and cotten fabrics after washing three times. In general, the surface colors of silk and cotten fabrics between the treatments of all mordants and non-treatment were diminished by the washing. We also investigated the surface colors of silk and cotten fabrics when those were washed and treated by the light after soaking those into various pH solutions. The surface colors of silk and cotten fabrics were considerably preserved by the washing, the light and pH concentration. In conclusion, our results suggest that the dyestuffs from pruning branch of a peach tree would be useful as a natural dyeing material using the optimized conditions for silk and cotten dyeing.
This study is to find out factors that protect social workers in a medical setting from burnout. It is differentiated from the existing studies, which focused on factors or process causing burnout. The participants of the study were ten social workers, who have been working in a medical setting for at least seven years and were recognized as competent social workers by at least five other colleagues. The data were collected through intensive interviews. The contents of the interviews were analyzed by using Nvivo2, a computer software program for use qualitative study analysis. The result of this study categorized coping strategies that kept the social workers from burnout. Among such factors were their own admissions of having professional competency, feeling worthwhile and sense of accomplishment, having a firm belief system and value about their profession, teamwork, and their overall disposition. Additionally, they said that the support by their agency and the recognition and support by family contributed to their overall coping ability. Through this study, it was found that the social workers in medical setting were reducing risk factors related to burnout and overcoming them with various protective factors. These protective factors reflected the unique characteristics that social workers encounter in a medical setting. It was remarkable that 'developing and managing their professional competency' was emphasized most as a protective factor.
