소성온도와 적층수가 ZnO계 적층형 바리스터의 미세구조와 전기적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of firing temperature and degree of lamination on microstructure and electrical properties of ZnO-based multilayered ceramic chip varistors)

  • The electrical properties of a ZnO-based multilayered chip varistor (abbreviated as MLV) were studied as functions of firing condition and the degree of lamination. The fundamental varistor characteristics such as nonlinear coefficient and breakdown voltage were independent of the degree of lamination. As the number of the laminated ceramic sheets increased, however, not only the energy handling capability but also the capacitance and the leakage current which are relevant to delayed response to the voltage surge and the pre-breakdown energy loss, respectively, increased. With the increase of firing temperature between $950^{\circ}C$ and $1150^{\circ}C$, both the capacitance and the leakage current of the MLV increased due mainly to the grain growth of ZnO and the volatilization of $BiO_2O_3$. High performance MLVs with clear electrode pattern were obtained at the firing temperature range of $l000{\sim}1050^{\circ}C$ in this experiment.

A Computational Model of the Temperature-dependent Changes in Firing Patterns in Aplysia Neurons

  • We performed experiments using Aplysia neurons to identify the mechanism underlying the changes in the firing patterns in response to temperature changes. When the temperature was gradually increased from $11^{\circ}C$ to $31^{\circ}C$ the firing patterns changed sequentially from the silent state to beating, doublets, beating-chaos, bursting-chaos, square-wave bursting, and bursting-oscillation patterns. When the temperature was decreased over the same temperature range, these sequential changes in the firing patterns reappeared in reverse order. To simulate this entire range of spiking patterns we modified nonlinear differential equations that Chay and Lee made using temperature-dependent scaling factors. To refine the equations, we also analyzed the spike pattern changes in the presence of potassium channel blockers. Based on the solutions of these equations and potassium channel blocker experiments, we found that, as temperature increases, the maximum value of the potassium channel relaxation time constant, ${\tau}_n(t)$ increases, but the maximum value of the probabilities of openings for activation of the potassium channels, n(t) decreases. Accordingly, the voltage-dependent potassium current is likely to play a leading role in the temperature-dependent changes in the firing patterns in Aplysia neurons.

  • 소성온도에 따른 ZnO계 적층형 세라믹 칩 바리스터(약칭 MLV)의 미세구조와 전기적 특성의 변화를 조사하였다. 소성온도 1100$^{\circ}$C에서 Ag/Pd(7:3) 내부전극층의 두께가 불균일하게 변화하면서 부분적인 공극이 발생하기 시작하고, 1150$^{\circ}$C에서는 상당한 전극 패턴의 소멸과 박리가 관찰되었다. 950$^{\circ}$C로 소성한 MLV의 경우 누설전류의 열화가 특히 컸는데 이는 미반응의 pyrochlore상이 잔류하여 액상과 천이원소의 균일한 분포가 일어나지 않았기 때문이라 사료된다. 1100$^{\circ}$C 이상의 온도로 소성한 경우에는 바리스터 특성 및 그 재현성의 저하가 관찰되었는데, 이는 내부전극의 소멸, 전극물질과 소체의 반응, 그리고 $Bi_2O_3$의 휘발에 기인한 것으로 보인다. 한편, 950∼1100$^{\circ}$C의 전 소성온도 범위에 걸쳐 온도가 증가할수록 정전용량과 누설전류는 증가하고 항복전압과 피크전류는 감소하였으나, 비선형계수와 클램핑 비는 각각 ∼30 및 1.4로 거의 일정한 값을 유지하였다. 특히 1000∼1050$^{\circ}$C 소성체의 경우 칩 바리스터에 적합한 바리스터 특성이 재현성 있게 나타났다. 결과적으로 Ag/Pd(7:3) 합금은 1050$^{\circ}$C의 동시 소성 온도이하에서는 $Bi_2O_3$를 함유한 대부분의 ZnO계 MLV의 내부전극으로 충분히 사용가능한 것으로 판단된다.

  • 재생냉각과 막냉각 그리고 열차폐 코팅이 적용된 재생냉각 축소형 연소기를 이용하여 연소시험을 수행하였다. 시험결과 적용된 냉각 방식은 설계 조건에서 그 역할을 충실히 수행하였으나 연료 매니폴드 내에 삽입된 구조 보강용 링에 의한 연료 유동의 불안정성으로 인해 고주파 연소불안정이 발생하였다. 연료 유동의 불안정성은 삽입 링을 제거함으로써 개선되었고 추가 연소시험을 통해 수정된 연소기의 연소안정성을 검증할 예정이다.

Analysis of temperature-dependent abnormal bursting patterns of neurons in Aplysia

  • Temperature affects the firing pattern and electrical activity of neurons in animals, eliciting diverse responses depending on neuronal cell type. However, the mechanisms underlying such diverse responses are not well understood. In the present study, we performed in vitro recording of abdominal ganglia cells of Aplysia juliana, and analyzed their burst firing patterns. We identified atypical bursting patterns dependent on temperature that were totally different from classical bursting patterns observed in R15 neurons of A. juliana. We classified these abnormal bursting patterns into type 1 and type 2; type 1 abnormal single bursts are composed of two kinds of spikes with a long interspike interval (ISI) followed by short ISI regular firing, while type 2 abnormal single bursts are composed of complex multiplets. To investigate the mechanism underlying the temperature dependence of abnormal bursting, we employed simulations using a modified Plant model and determined that the temperature dependence of type 2 abnormal bursting is related to temperature-dependent scaling factors and activation or inactivation of potassium or sodium channels.

사출 차량에서의 외란을 이용한 정밀 지향성 향상 연구 (A Study on Improvement of Aiming ability using Disturbance Measurement in the Firing Vehicle)

  • 지향성능은 발사차량의 정확성에 있어서 중요한 요소이다. 본 연구는 외란 가속도를 이용하여 지향구조물의 진동을 감지하는 방안과 실험 결과에 대하여 기술하였다. 주행 중 발생하는 진동 경향을 분석하기 위하여 가속도 자료를 이동평균과 힐버트 변환을 이용하여 신호 처리하였다. 다양한 외란에 대하여 가속도의 모드 계수를 얻었으며, 차량속도, 노면조건, 지향구조물의 특성을 차량 동특성의 진동을 변화시키는 요소로 간주하였다. 마지막으로 다양한 주행 조건의 진동 신호를 분류하기 위한 패턴인식에 역전파 신경망 이론을 이용하였다. 각 조건에 대하여 실험 결과를 비교 분석하였다.

  • Low firing temperature substrate were synthesized through tape casting and sintering of glass with cordierite composition and then their properties were investigated. Even though the dielectric properties and XRD patterns of substrates, obtained by tape casting and sintering at 900~100$0^{\circ}C$ for various periods, were similar to those of substrates obtained by dry pressing, the sinterability was enhanced. The substrates were thin and the size was 0.6$\times$50$\times$50mm. From the results of dielectric properties, the sinterability and X-ray diffraction pattern, the proper condition for cofiring process with conductor, Cu, was 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 1h. The properties of the substrate are as follows; the dielectric constant was 5.31(at 1MHz), the dissipation factor was 0.0028, the apparent porosity was 0.28% and the main crystalline phase was $\alpha$-cordierite.

  • The flat flame made by swirling air has lots of the different characteristics according to the swirl numbers in the burner throat. Its combustion characteristics are also affected by them. In this study, the flow patterns in the flat flame burner which is no firing condition were investigated experimentally with using smoke in terms of each swirl number. Also the blow off, flame structure, temperature distribution and NO emission in the firing condition were measured at the atmosphere and combustion furnace.

MARGINAL FITNESS OF PORCELAIN-FUSED-TO-METAL CROWN ACCORDING TO MATERIAL AND TECHNIQUE

  • This stusy was to investigate the marginal fitness of porcelain-fused-to- metal crown after succesive firing cycle. Main variables were the degree of marginal curvature of labiocervical margin and the type of alloy. The exaggerated marginal curvature(EMC) was created by additional reduction at the faciocervical wall of the normallized marginal curvature (NMC)-typed ivorine tooth by using milling machine. The difference in the shape was the mid facial margin was placed 2mm apical to cemento- enamel junction in labial surface. Three types of alloy were high noble, noble, and base metal alloy. Test specimens were divided into 8 groups and each group had 8 specimens. Sixty four ceramometal crowns were made totally. Measurement stages were following degassing, opaquing. body porcelain firing, and glazing, and measuring sites were 4. (midmesial, midfacial, middistal, and midlingual). Digital, travelling measuring microscope (0.5 um precision, Olympus. Japan) was used under ${\times}250$ magnification. Within the limitation of this investigation, it was concluded as belows: 1. The pattern of marginal distortion was varied. Degassing stage was not a specific, causative stage that induce most of total marginal distortion during whole procedure fabricating a ceramometal crown. Body firing stage induced discrepancy relatively more than other firing stages. 2. The specimens that were Ni-based alloy and had EMC were distorted persistently following successive fabricating procedures. But marginal openings were decreased after glazing. 3. The release of metal grinding-induced stress was presumed as a cause that induce marginal distortion. 4. The amount of discrepancies of the labial and lingual margins were greater than that of the mesial and distal margin in the specimen that had EMC. 5. Silver-plated die was not enough to resist abrasion during repeated seating of metal copings on the die-holding device.

Integrated Environment Impact Assessment of Brick Kiln using Environmental Performance Scores

  • The capital city of Himalayan Country Nepal, Kathmandu Valley is surrounded by consecutive high mountains, which limits the air distribution and mixing effects significantly. It in turn generates steady air flow pattern over a year except in monsoon season. The air shed in the Valley is easily trapped by the surrounded mountains and the inversion layer formulated as the cap. The $PM_{10}$ concentration was noticeably higher than the standard level (120 ${\mu}g/m^3$) in urban and suburban area of Kathmandu valley for all seasons except monsoon period. The Valley area experiences similar wind patterns (W, WWS, and S) for a year but the Easterly wind prevails only during the monsoon period. There was low and calm wind blows during the winter season. Because of this air flow structure, the air emission from various sources is accumulated within the valley air, high level of air pollution is frequently recorded with other air polluted cities over the world. In this Valley area, brick kilns are recognized as the major air pollution source followed by vehicles. Mostly Bull Trench Kiln (BKT), Hoffman Kiln and Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln (VSBK) are in operation for brick firing in Kathmandu valley where the fuels such as crushed coal, saw dust, and natural gas are used for processing bricks in this study. Tool for the Reduction and Assessment of Chemical and Other Environmental Impacts (TRACI) was used for screening and quantifying the potential impacts of air emission from firing fuels. The total Environmental Performance Score (EPS) was estimated and the EPS of coal was approximately 2.5 times higher than those of natural gas and saw dust. It is concluded that the crushed coal has more negative impact to the environment and human health than other fuel sources. Concerning the human health and environment point of view, alternative environment friendly firing fuel need to be used for brick industry in the kiln and the air pollution control devices also need to be applied for minimizing the air emissions from the kilns.
