  • Photoimageable thick film technology is a new technology in that the lithography process such as exposure and development is applied to the conventional thick film process. Line resolution of 25 $\mu\textrm{m}$ width and 25 $\mu\textrm{m}$ space could be obtained by laminating green sheet, printing photoimageable Ag paste, exposing the test patterns, developing, and co-firing. In case of using the alumina substrate, 20 $\mu\textrm{m}$ fine line could be also obtained by similar process. Test results showed that exposing power density and developing time were the most important processing parameters for the fine line formation. Microstrip and series gap resonators with well-defined line morphology and good transmission characteristics in high frequency were formed by this new technology, and thereby dielectric constant and loss of test substrate were calculated.

  • The superficial dorsal horn, particularly substantia gelatinosa (SG) in the spinal cord, receives inputs from small-diameter primary afferents that predominantly convey noxious sensation. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are toxic agents that may be involved in various neurodegenerative diseases. Recent studies indicate that ROS are also involved in persistent pain through a spinal mechanism. In the present study, whole cell patch clamp recordings were carried out on SG neurons in spinal cord slice of young rats to investigate the effects of hydrogen peroxide on neuronal excitability and excitatory synaptic transmission. In current clamp condition, tert-buthyl hydroperoxide (t-BuOOH), an ROS donor, depolarized membrane potential of SG neurons and increased the neuronal firing frequencies evoked by depolarizing current pulses. When slices were pretreated with phenyl-N-tert-buthylnitrone (PBN) or ascorbate, ROS scavengers, t-BuOOH did not induce hyperexcitability. In voltage clamp condition, t-BuOOH increased the frequency and amplitude of spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents (sEPSCs), and monosynaptically evoked excitatory postsynaptic currents (eEPSCs) by electrical stimulation of the ipsilateral dorsal root. These data suggest that ROS generated by peripheral nerve injury can modulate the excitability of the SG neurons via pre- and postsynaptic actions.

  • The goal of this paper is to developed a DSP based power analyzing and control system by 3-Dimensional (3-D) space current co-ordinates. A developed system is made up of 486-PC and DSP (Digital Signal Processor) board, Active Power Filter, Non-linear thyristor load, and Power analyzing and control program for Windows. Power is analyzed using signal processing techniques based on the correlation between voltage and current waveforms. Since power analysis algorithm is performed by DSP, power analysis is achieved in real-time even under highly dynamic nonlinear loading conditions. Combining control algorithm with power analysis algorithm is performed by DSP, power analysis is achieved in real-time even under highly dynamic nonlinear loading conditions. Combining control algorithm with power analysis algorithm, flexibility of the proposed system which has both power analysis mode and control mode, is greatly enhanced. Non-active power generated while speed of induction motor is controlled by modulating firing angle of thyristor converter, is compensated by Active Power Filter for verifying a developed system. Power analysis results, before/after compensation, are numerically obtained and evaluated. From these results, various graphic screens for time/frequency/3-D current co-ordinate system are displayed on PC. By real-time analysis of power using a developed system, power quality is evaluated, and compared with that of conventional current co-ordinate system. (author). refs., figs. tabs.

  • Today, rolling stock has become a fast and convenient mode of transportation and has witnessed increased demand. But the speed improvement has resulted in increased aerodynamic noise and therefore residential districts near the railroad tracks are exposed to ever increasing noise level. A study on methodologies for measuring and appraising rolling stock's environmental noise has therefore become an important area of endeavor. In the case of the environmental noise, there are no changes in tone so prediction can be made by reducing areas around the railway. The present study explores estimation of the noise around the railway using scale model, and the source of the noise has been investigated as well. The scale model of rolling stock will have to be able to measure high frequency noise and it is required to be generated in a short amount of time. Since popping a balloon or firing a gun fits this requirement the present study analyzed the characteristics of these two different noise sources. Measurement was made in a large vacant lot and the reflection due to the ground was also examined. The method proposed here can be used in the future for predicting the environmental noise of railway vehicles.

  • Untypical unstable burning with very low frequency was observed at firing test of a gas generator using bundle cylindrical grain. The pressure unbalance between inside and outside of cylindrical grain brought such a low unstable burning. The grains were radially holed so that the high pressure gas inside of grain could quickly moved outward of gain, resulting dissipation of the pressure unbalance However too many holes were required to let the burning be stable for all operation regime from low to high temperature of grain and resultantly deteriorate the Progressive increase of gas amount produced by a gas generator. So another idea using grids located both sides of a bundle grain was applied to dissipate actively large vorticities enhanced by unbalance pressure distribution in a combustor. Finally stable burning with progressively increase of gas was established by application of 5${\times}$5 grid slightly away bundle grain to move bundle gain freely in case pressure unbalance were occurred inside of combustor.

  • Influence of sustain pulse-width on electro-luminous efficiency is experimentally investigated for surface discharge of AC-PDP. A square pulse with variable duty ratio and rising time of 300 ns has been used in the experiment. It is found that the firing voltage is decreased as the pulse-width is increased from 2 ${\mu}s$ to 8 ${\mu}s$ with sweeping frequency range of 10 kHz to 50 kHz. It has been found that the optimal sustain pulse-width is in the range of $3{\sim}4{\mu}s$ under driving frequency range of 30 kHz and 50 kHz, based on observation of memory coefficient, wall charge, and wall voltage as well as luminous efficiency.

  • According to the recent trend to raise the horizontal scan frequency to increase the image refinement of the High Definition TV and High Resolution Display, material with low core loss is required for the ferrite core for deflection yoke, which is secured even in the high frequency range. liking notice of the influence on the fine structure of Mg-Zn ferrite by the chemical com position and process, low temperature sintering was proceeded. Cu was added to the low loss Mg-Zn system ferrite. After select-ing MgO, ZnO, $Fe_2$$O_3$, CuO, MgO was substituted for CuO while varying the composition ratio. Then the sample was sintered for 3 hours between $980~1350^{\circ}C$ Magnetic permeability, power consumption, shrinkage rate, core loss were measured. The start-ing temperature to test the shrinkage of the sample was nearby $900^{\circ}C$, it increased according to the substitution process of Cu, and the firing temperature was lowered about $-50~-75^{\circ}C$ alongside of the process.

  • This study is to investigate the effective mineralizer in the manufacture of forsterite porcelain as a high frequency insulator. A mixture of $Mg(OH)_2$. and $SiO_2$.($\alpha$-Quartz) corresponding to the molar ratio of 2.0 MgO: 1.0 $SiO_2$ was prepared from the materials of high purity. It was heated to 140$0^{\circ}C$ at the rate of 20$0^{\circ}C$/hr, which was kept constantly for 1 hour, and one has made chamotte after cooling. Six kinds of glasses were prepared by an 0.1 atomic equivalent of K ions substitution-Ba, Bi, Zn, Cd, Zr-to the basic K-glass (0.333 $K_2O$.1.14 $SiO_2$) and were melted approximately at 150$0^{\circ}C$. The forsterite bodies were provided by adding each glass (10, 15, 20, 25, 30%) to the forsterite chamotte, which was fired at 1320, 1360, 1400, 144$0^{\circ}C$. (1 hr). One has examined the physical and dielectric properties for the specimens. The results of the experiments are as follows; 1. As for water absorption: Bodies were better vitrified with an addition and temperature change of Ba, Bi, Zn-glasses. The specimen containing Cd-glass showed deviation of slow decreasing, where as K-glass was completely not vitrified. 2. Bodies containing Ba, Zn, Bi-glasses appeared comparatively high Modulus of Rupture at 136$0^{\circ}C$, while containing Zr-glass had the highest Modulus of Rupture as the addition changes remarkably at 140$0^{\circ}C$. 3. It was estimated that 20-25% glass present in a forsterite bodies were in good conditions as for physical properties. 4. Specimens of Ba, Bi, Zr-glasses were superior as for dielectric properties, where among Ba-glass was most excellent. 5. Dielectric constant commonly increases in a slight gradient as firing temperature rises. 6. The petrographic examination showed that the bodies containing Ba, Bi-glasses had fine crystals, and were observed distinctly large mosaic crystals in the Zn-glass.

  • For the development of a liquid rocket engine, hot-firing tests of a regeneratively cooled thrust chamber were performed at chamber pressures of approximately 30 and 60 bars. In the paper, pressure fluctuation data, which were obtained from the dynamic pressure transducers installed in propellant manifolds and combustion chamber, were analyzed. Compared to the data at chamber pressure of 60 bar, the results at chamber pressure of 30 bar showed low-frequency oscillations around 150 Hz in the combustion chamber. The low-frequency waves in the combustion chamber were coupled with those in the manifolds. However, the RMS values of the chamber pressure fluctuations at chamber pressure of 30 bar were only 0.8% of the chamber pressures. Thus, it can be inferred that the thrust chamber operates in the stability boundary even at low chamber pressure.
