  • The effects of slag prticle size, $Na_2SO_4$ addition and sulphide in slag to the foam formation was investigated. This investigation showed that the slag particle size and the amount of $Na_2O$ had produced effects on the size of the foam, foam distribution and firing temperatures. In addition to that the amount of sulphide loss during the firing was controlling factor for the foam formation. The smaller slag particles and higher firing temperatures increased the loss of sulphide in the slag. The addition of $Na_2SO_4$ in the slag batch was likely to inhibit the foam formation. The larger slag particles resutled in the larger foam size and tended to be increasing the batch firing temperature. The main constituents of slag formed glass consisted of wallstonite and glassy phase. It is believed that the controlling the slag particle size and the amount of $Na_2SO_4$ in the slag batch will probably be main factors in foam formation.

  • Parkinson's disease (PD) is a debilitating disorder resulting from loss of dopamine neurons. In dopamine deficient state, the basal ganglia increases inhibitory synaptic outputs to the thalamus. This increased inhibition by the basal ganglia output is known to reduce firing rate of thalamic neurons that relay motor signals to the motor cortex. This 'rate model' suggests that the reduced excitability of thalamic neurons is the key for inducing motor abnormalities in PD patients. We reveal that in response to inhibition, thalamic neurons generate rebound firing at the end of inhibition. This rebound firing increases motor cortical activity and induces muscular responses that triggers Parkinsonian motor dysfunction. Genetic and optogenetic intervention of the rebound firing prevent motor dysfunction in a mouse model of PD. Our results suggest that inhibitory synaptic mechanism mediates motor dysfunction by generating rebound excitability in the thalamocortical pathway.

  • Tube erosion can be defined as a phenomenon for an increment of bore diameter, a declination of accuracy and utility of tube by firing. This study introduces the characteristics of tube life for the 155 mm K9 SHP Using a tube history book with bore measurement data and firing data of standard charge, this study analyzed the EFC vs Tube life and EFC with heat transfer effect formula as a consideration of continuous firing vs tube life. The results were compared with Firing Table(FT 155-K9-1) after the analysis. Also, this study suggests that CN98 tube can be rifled as 1000 EFC through the severe condition with continuous firing.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out optimum conditions for zinc crystalline glaze under variables of firing: maximum firing temperature, crystal growth temperature, temperature increasing speed, annealing speed, holding time at maximum temperature and holding time at crystal growth temperature. Ferro Frit3110, ZnO and Quartz were used as starting materials and tested by three component system. The best result of test was selected and extended to its vicinity as five glaze formulas. And then the specimens were experimented by variable firing conditions and analyzed by crystal appearance observation, XRD, FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy. In result, main crystal was willemite in the zinc glazes. Some gahnite was detected in specimens which were fired at $1230^{\circ}C$, $1250^{\circ}C$ and $1270^{\circ}C$, however gahnite was not identified at $1300^{\circ}C$. Optimum zinc crystalline glaze was gained by following firing condition: temperature increasing speed $5^{\circ}C$/min, holding 1 h at $1270^{\circ}C$, annealing speed $3^{\circ}C$/min till $1170^{\circ}C$, holding 2 h at $1170^{\circ}C$ then naturally annealed.

  • Screen printing technique followed by firing has commonly been used as metallization for both laboratory and industrial based solar cells. In the solar cell industry, the firing process is usually conducted in a belt furnace and needs to be optimized for fabricating high efficiency solar cells. The printed-Al layer on the silicon is rapidly heated at over $800^{\circ}C$ which forms a layer of back surface field (BSF) between Si-Al interfaces. The BSF layer forms $p-p^+$ structure on the rear side of cells and lower rear surface recombination velocity (SRV). To have low SRV, deep $p^+$ layer and uniform junction formation are required. In this experiment, firing process was carried out by using conventional tube furnace with $N_2$ gas atmosphere to optimize $V_{oc}$ of laboratory cells. To measure the thickness of BSF layer, selective etching was conducted by using a solution composed of hydrogen fluoride, nitric acid and acetic acid. The $V_{oc}$ and pseudo efficiency were measured by Suns-$V_{oc}$ to compare cell properties with varied firing condition.

  • Korean tremoitic talc, wollastonite and clay have been used to develop a wall tile body to appropriate to the fast firing process. Some of ceramic properties of the raw materials were investigated by X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis and chemical analysis. The body compositions were formulated from the range of 35~75% tremolitic talc, 0~30% wollastonite and 25~35% plastic clay. Thermal gravity analysis and thermal expansion were tested for each of unfired bodies to study the correlation between thermal dehydration and linear shrinkage during the firing procedure. Linear shrinkage and water absorption of the fired bodies at the various temperature were taken as a measures for determining the proper firing range of the bodies. Increasing the content of wollastonite and firing temperature, the thermal expansion of the fired body showed the gradual decrease, and the thermal expansion curves showed a tendency to straighten. These observations may be resulted from the fact that the amounts of diopside and anorthite formed were gradually increased and those of quartz relatively decreased. The optimum compositions of the wall tile bodies for fast firing are 30% clay, 10~20% wollastonite and 50~60% tremolitic talc.

  • When back-out & firing Process applies heat, hume is piled up in exhaust duct by organic compound and it have high dangerousness. There by, the process is happening a lot of damage that is exhaust duct fire. However we do not have certain fire dangerousness estimation and digestion countermeasure. So we need preventive measure. Back-out & firing is a process which has fine structure, electrical and mechanical characteristics, such as firing kiln and back-out kiln which has pipe line and box type. The box oven is made of heating coil, fan motor and control panel. Back-out & firing process has air circulation institution of quick ventilation type. When we operate this process for long time, fire can break out easily. Duct is made by zinc shredder. If fire breaks out in duct inside, fire by deposit fume can be dispersed easily. Accordinglym, This project estimate danger for back-out & firing process exhaust duct through real fire test. And there is purpose of study to establish preventive measure.

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate the characteristics of chemiluminescence in a radiant burner, varying the excess air ratio from 0.91 to 1.67 at firing rate 80.5 to 134.2 kW/m2 on $OH^*,\;CH^*,\;{C_2}^*$ in LNG-Air premixed flames. The signals from electronically excited states of $OH^*,\;CH^*,\;{C_2}^*$ were detected using a Intensified Couple Charged Detector (ICCD) camera. The measurements of exhausted emission were made to investigate the correlation between chemiluminescence and emissions. The chemiluminescence intensity was increased with increase of firing rate like characteristics of $NO_x$ emission. $NO_x$ also increased with increase of firing rate and excess air ratio. It is found that offset of firing rate is more dominant excess air ratio $NO_x$ emission. The maximum chemiluminescence intensity occurs near the stoichiometric excess air ratio or lean conditions in case of high firing rate and the maximum intensity occurs rather than rich conditions in case of relatively low firing rate. Amount of $NO_x$ emission is maximum at near stoichiometric excess air ratio, which is chemiluminescence intensity is maximum.

  • This study was to investigate the firing method of limestone in Joseon Dynasty, and analyze the physical chemical properties of lime mortars in Joseon Dynasty. This study was to manufacture and evaluate the firing experiment and mortar of Limestone by each sort in order to reproduce the traditional lime mortars in Joseon Dynasty, and investigate the behavior to improve physical properties according to the firing method of Limestone. This study has found out that there were screening criteria and standard of appropriate firing temperature about the Limestone in Joseon Dynasty. Accordingly, this study was to improve its strength through various additives and mixture. In particular, in case of Limestone, the black and blue Limestone were preferred, and most of domestic Limestones were low grade Limestone including the clay and took ivory white or blue with low whiteness. This study has shown that the low grade Limestone was mined by the surface mining compared with the high grade Limestone as underground mining method, and could be used because it was easy to mine relatively and there was possibility that Natural Hydraulic Lime(NHL) was used with the traditional lime mortars in Joseon Dynasty.

  • The effects of the opaque porcelain firing temperature, the bonding agent and the degassing prior to the opaque firing On the bond strength were investigated by means of the tensile shear stIe$. The diffusional behaviours at the interface of the porcelain and the alloy, and .the microstructures of the ceramic and metal composite were studied for understanding the bonding mechanism. The results obtained in this experiment were summarizd as follow; 1. With no application of bonding agent, the tensile shear strength of the specimen firing at $1840^{\circ}F$ was higher than that of the specimen firing at $1760^{\circ}F$. 2. The highest bond strength was obtained by application of bonding agent without degassing prior to the opaque firing. 3. Application of bonding agent after the degassing showed the lowest bond strength. 4. The greater number of pores were observed at the firing temperature of $1840^{\circ}F$ than that of $1760^{\circ}F$ in the porcelain and the interface respectively.
