  • The fire compartments which are composed of fire walls and fire doors for buildings are compulsorily required to minimize the fire damage in Korea. The performance standards of fire doors for compartments are regulated by the notification of the ministry of land, transport and maritime affairs and are mainly about the Integrity of the doors not insulation. In this study, we measured the radiant heat of six different kinds of fire doors in fire and analyzed the results and presented the reasons of the need to consider adding the radiant heat standard for fire doors to the notification.

  • This paper presents a study on the analysis for activation time and threshold value of heat detection sensor using HRR(Heat Release Rate). And it is represented to quantity of heat to activate heat detection sensor. The experiment is conducted to measure activation time and HRR of fire detection sensor burning alcohol and n-heptane. In order to burn the alcohol and n-heptane using $43.5cm(L){\times}43.5cm(W){\times}5cm(D)$ and $33cm(L){\times}33cm(L){\times}5cm(D)$ steel pan and the quantity of alcohol and n-heptane are 2.5 L and 650 g, respectively. The results show that peak HRR are in case of alcohol 66.13 kW and in case of n-heptane 151.64 kW, respectively. Total heat releases of heat detection sensor are in case of alcohol approximately 20.7 MJ and in case of n-heptane approximately 18 MJ, respectively.

  • The characteristics of heat energy distribution on the fire-proof clay with microwave heating drying are numerically investigated using finite element method. The modelled regular hexahedron chamber$(50cm\times50cm\times50cm)$ filled with air consists of vertical heat source and sink walls, a fire-proof clay model, and adiabatic plates on the top and bottom walls. With different geometrical aspect ratios of the fire-proof clay model, the heat energy distribution is throughly investigated. The model gave a good prediction of the microwave heating characteristics of fire-proof clay. The optimal shape of the fire-proof clay for given chamber geometry and microwave power is analyzed.

  • Heat release characteristics of live fire load are an important parameter for performance oriented fire safety design of a building. While investigations have been carried out on the fire load and its burning behavior in office, residential and commercial buildings and so on, little effort has been paid for the rational treatment of fire load in bookstore. In this report, burning behavior of typical combustible objects in bookstore are studied by measuring heat release rates of bookshelf with book.

  • The purpose of this study is to enhance heat insulation effect and to decrease fire hazard by attaching aluminum foil to expanded polystyrene, which is mainly used for insulating materials, to have fire retardant. The result of the test confirmed that the insulating materials, expanded polystyrene of $10kg/m^3$ and $14kg/m^3$ of density attached aluminum foil on both sides, showed 12%, 14% of improved heat transfer coefficient respectively compared to existing expanded polystyrene of the same density. Besides, they met all the standards for the testing of heat release and gas hazard. On the other hand, the one made of general expanded polystyrene could not meet the standards of the heat release test and the gas hazard test.

  • In order to investigate the generation of carbon monoxide and heat loss of incomplete combustion in compartment fires, an experiment was conducted in a small scale compartment by using methanol as a fuel. The concentration of carbon monoxide and the toxicity parameter showed high values when the mass air - to - fuel stoichiometric ratio is under 1.0. The constitution of the combustion gas was showed to estimate it from the . The heat loss due to incompleteness of combustion is about one third of heat of combustion in case of under 1.0.

  • This paper presents a study on the analysis for false alarm of heat detector using HRR(Heat Release Rate). And it is represented to threshold value and domain of false alarm. The HRR threshold value of false alarm is calculated to use parameters obtained by small scale fire-experiment. The experiment is conducted to measure detector activation time and flame spread of wood cribs fire, etc. The results show that HRR threshold value of Fixed type detector is 20.24 kW and rate of rise type detector is 13.59 kW, respectively.

  • The recent fire incident in an elementary school of Chonan city causes the media focus on the fire safety of residential container buildings. In this study, real fire tests were conducted in this kind of buildings. Fire temperature and radiant heat flux were measured, in order to investigate the hazard-reduction effects during the fire emergency of residential container buildings. According to the test results, flash over occur in 10 minutes, peak fire temperature was $935.5^{\circ}C$, peak radiant heat flux was $24.99kW/m^2$ at 8minutes after residential container building fire.

  • In fire test, accurate heat release rate measurements provide important information to define the fire safety characteristics of products. The calculation of heat release rate depends on the errors of measuring parameters in experimental set-up. In this study, the uncertainty factors of heat release rate in the room corner test facility, which is installed at Korea Railroad Research Institute, were analyzed. Through the fire testings for the KTX interior materials, the uncertainties of heat release rate were calculated. Results showed that uncertainty was high in the initial stage of fire test and gradually decreased with the growth of fire. The oxygen concentration was a major factor contributing to the combined relative standard uncertainty.
