  • Damage caused by impact on a vehicle composed of CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastic) composite to reduce weight in the aerospace industries is related to the safety of passengers. Therefore, it is important to understand the damage behavior of materials that is invisible in impact situations, and research through the FEM(finite element model) is needed to simulate this. In this study, FEM suitable for predicting damage behavior was constructed for impact analysis of unidirectional laminated composite. The calibration parameters of the MAT_54 Enhanced Composite Damage material model in LS-DYNA were acquired by inverse estimation through ANN(artificial neural network) model. The reliability was verified by comparing the result of experiment with the results of the ANN model for the obtained parameter. It was confirmed that accuracy of FEM can be improved through optimization of calibration parameters.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the numerical simulation accuracy according to the CFRP modeling method in the CFRP-Al alloy SPR (Self-Piercing Rivet) joint process. The mechanical properties of the CFRP, aluminum sheet are precisely obtained from the tensile test according to the loading direction. Additionally, the hardening curve of rivet was calculated from the inverse analysis of the machined rivet-ring compression test. For the CFRP-Al alloy SPR simulation, two kinds of the CFRP modeling methods were established based on the continuum and layer-by-layer approaches. The simulation results showed that the CFRP layer-by-layer modeling method can provide more reliable prediction shape of the fractured sheets and deformed rivet. This simulation technique can be used in evaluating the CFRP-Metal SPR performance and designing the SPR process conditions.

  • In this study, nonlinear static aeroelastic analysis system for a high-aspect-ratio wing are developed using the transonic small disturbance (TSD) and large deflection beam theory and validated. For the coupling between fluid and structure, the transformation of displacement from the structural mesh to aerodynamic one is performed by the shape function of the beam finite element and the inverse transformation of force by work equivalent load concept. Also, for the static aeroelastic analysis of the wing the use of TSD aerodynamics are justified. The validation of the system includes one of the efficient transformation methods of force and displacement.

  • Most conventional model updating methods must use mathematical objective function with experimental modal matrices and analytical system matrices or must use information about the gradient or higher derivatives of modal properties with respect to each updating parameter. Therefore, most conventional methods are not appropriate for complex structural system such as bridge structures due to stability problem in inverse analysis with ill-conditions. Sometimes, moreover, the updated model may have no physical meaning. In this paper, a new FE model updating method based on a hybrid optimization technique using genetic algorithm (GA) and Holder-Mead simplex method (NMS) is proposed. The performance of hybrid optimization technique on the nonlinear problem is demonstrated by the Goldstein-Price function with three local minima and one global minimum. The influence of the objective function is evaluated by the case study of a simulated 10-dof spring-mass model. Through simulated case studies, finally, the objective function is proposed to update mass as well as stiffness at the same time. And so, the proposed hybrid optimization technique is proved to be an efficient method for FE model updating.

  • The use of geotextile as reinforcing materials in soil structures has become widespread throughout the world. Geotextile reinforcement has been used in retaining walls, roadbed, embankment stabilization and especially reinforcement of soft foundation, and so on, In the past, however, its design and construction have been performed empirically. In this study, laboratory model tests were carried out in order to investigate the effects of geotextile rein- forcement on vertical and horizontal displacement and other characteristics in soft founda- tions. The experiments were executed in eight treatments ;no geotextile between embank - ment and subsoils, and seven geotextiles with different tensile strength. And such factors as the loading conditions, the tensile strength of geotextiles, the ingredient of geotextiles and the elapsed time were investigate in this study. And the analytical method were executed in order to study the stress and behavior of geotextile - reinforced soil structure by the nonlinear elasto - plastic finite element model. The following conclusions were drawn from this study. 1. Geotextile reinforcement reduced the effects of banking loads on subsoils more effectively with the increase of their tensile strength. 2. As the tensile strength of geotextiles was increase, the rate of the initial vertical disp - lacements of loading plate was reduced inverse proportional to loads, Rowever, the effect of loading was reduced when the loads exceed a certain limits, 3. The effect of reinforcement of nonwoven geotextile was 1.5-4.5 times larger than that of the woven geotextile with equivalent tensile strength. 4. The increased bearing capacity and the reduced settlement are proportioned as the tensile strength of geotextile. 5. The settlement at the long time loading were developed almost all, were completed after 10 days and the additional settlement were not developed since then. 6. The nonlinear elasto - plastic finite element method are accurate to predict the stresses and behayior of geotextile - reinforced soil structures.

  • Ground-coupled heat pump system has attracted attention as a promising renewable energy technology due to its improving energy efficiency and eco-friendly mechanism for space cooling and heating. Pipes buried in the ground play a role of direct thermal interaction between circulating fluid inside the pipe and surrounding soils in the geothermal exchange system. However, both complexities of turbulent flow coupling thermal-hydraulic phenomena and very long aspect ratio of the pipe make it difficult to model the heat exchange system directly. Energy balance for fluid flow inside the pipe was derived to model thermal-hydraulic phenomena, and one-dimensional pipe element was proposed through Galerkin formation and time integration of the equation. Developed element is combined to pre-developed FEM code for THM phenomena in porous media. Numerical results of Thermal Response Test showed that line-source model overestimates equivalent thermal conductivity of surrounding soils due to thermal interaction between adjacent pipes and finite length of the pipe. Thus, inverse analysis for the TRT simulation was conducted to present optimal transformation matrix with utmost convergence.

  • This paper presents the analysis of a time reversal process for $A_0$ Lamb wave mode($A_0$ mode) on a rectangular plate. The dispersion characteristic equation of the $A_0$ mode is approximated using the Timoshenko beam theory. A virtual sensor array model is developed to consider the effects of reflections occurring on the plate boundary on the time reversal process. The time reversal process is formulated in the frequency domain using the virtual sensor array model. The reconstructed signal is obtained in the time domain through an inverse fast Fourier transform. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated through the comparison to the numerical simulation results computed by the finite element analysis.

  • The capability of a multi-directional fixed smeared crack constitutive model to simulate the flexural/punching failure modes of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) laminar structures is discussed. The constitutive model is implemented in a computer program based on the finite element method, where the FRC laminar structures were simulated according to the Reissner-Mindlin shell theory. The shell is discretized into layers for the simulation of the membrane, bending and out-of-plane shear nonlinear behavior. A stress-strain softening diagram is proposed to reproduce, after crack initiation, the evolution of the normal crack component. The in-plane shear crack component is obtained using the concept of shear retention factor, defined by a crack-strain dependent law. To capture the punching failure mode, a softening diagram is proposed to simulate the decrease of the out-of-plane shear stress components with the increase of the corresponding shear strain components, after crack initiation. With this relatively simple approach, accurate predictions of the behavior of FRC structures failing in bending and in shear can be obtained. To assess the predictive performance of the model, a punching experimental test of a module of a façade panel fabricated with steel fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete is numerically simulated. The influence of some parameters defining the softening diagrams is discussed.

  • This study was designed to survey the stress distributions and deflections which were derived from MEAW by the computer-aided three dimensional finite element analysis of teeth and surrounding bone composed of 2839 solid elements and 4621 nodes. MEAW model was also made using the 90 beam elements and the results were expressed by quantitative and visible ways. The findings of this study were as follows. 1 In case of vertical load on the MEAW there were extrusions of anterior teeth and upright effects of the posterior teeth. 2. Without applying the vertical elastics on the MEAW there were intrusions of anterior teeth, but relatively mild force was transmitted to the posterior teeth area. Torque forces were observed on the incisors and molars, and canine was intruded without torque. 3. The magnitudes of forces were different by the amounts of tip back bends of MEAW. 4. The displacements were in inverse proportion to the cross section areas of the wires according to the experiment using the 5 different size arch wires. 5. The difference of deflections between the MEAW and plain arch wire was not so big as the theoretical one but the deflections of MEAW were much more than the plain arch wire in every X, Y, Z direction.

  • In the design of structure the forces acting on the structure are important parameter for noise and vibration control. However, in the complex structure, the forces at the injection pomt on the structure cannot be measured directly. Thus it is necessary to find out indirect force evaluation method. In thls paper forces have been measured with in-situ vibration responses and system information. Three existing techniques of indirect force measurement, viz. direct inverse, principal component analysis and regularization have been compared. It has been shown that multi-vibration responses are essential for the precise estimation of the forces. To satisfy those cond~tions, Rotary compressor is adopted as test sample, because it is very difficult to measurc the injection forces from internal excitat~on to shell. It has also been obtained that relatively higher force IS transmitted through three welding paths to the compressor shell. It shows a good agreement between direct and indirect force evaluation wlth curvature shell and plate and is investigated the possibility of force evaluation of rotary compressor as a complex structure.
