CFRP has been widely used for strengthening reinforced concrete members in last decade. The strain transfer mechanism from concrete face to CFRP is a key factor for rigidity, ductility, energy dissipation and failure modes of concrete members. For these reasons, determination of the effective CFRP bonding length is the most crucial step to achieve effective and economical strengthening. In this paper, generalizations are made on effective bonding length by increasing the amount of test data. For this purpose, ANSYS software is employed, and an experimentally verified nonlinear finite element model is prepared. Special contact elements are utilized along the concrete-CFRP strip interface for investigating stress distribution, load-displacement behavior, and effective bonding length. Then results are compared with the experimental results. The finite element model found consistent results with the experimental findings.
Finite element vibration analysis of the trial 5x5 partial fuel assembly in the still water was performed using the substructure method. ANSYS software was used as a finite element modeling and modal analysis tool. The calculated natural frequencies of the partial fuel assembly were more consistent with the experimental results for the identical test model compared to the much larger solid model. This modeling technique can be utilized for the fuel assembly dynamic behavior analysis under normal operation, seismic and loss-of-coolant-accident analysis.
This study analyzes performance-weight ratio of polycarbonate(PC) pigpen and steel pigpen. The finite element models using the ANSYS program described in this paper is attractive not only because it shows excellent accuracy in analysis but also it shows the benefit of parameter study by using APDL. We have performed a parameter study by the width variation of PC pigpen. And we compared and analyzed the results of PC pigpen and steel pigpen. From the numerical examples, we confirmed the validity of PC pigpen.
Finite element model of pressurized water reactor internals were obtained using ANSYS software package to analyze dynamic characteristics. The pressure vessel, hold-down ring, alinement key, core support barrel(CSB), upper guide structure(UGS) and fluid gap were fully modeled using structural solid element(SOLID45) and fluid element(FLUID80) which is one of element types. Also modal analysis using the above finite element model has been performed. As a result, it was found that the fundamental beam mode natural frequency of the CSB were 8.2 Hz, the shell mode one 14.5 Hz. To verify the Finite Element Analysis(FEA), we compare the analysis result with experimental data that is obtained from the plant IVMS(internal Vibration Monitoring System). The experimental results are good agreement with the FEA model.
This study presents a rockfall impact analysis of a typical roadway. Dynamic finite element analyses using ANSYS AUTODYN are conducted to determine the effect of the drop heights (5 m, 10 m) on the damage to a roadway model. The Rockfall is modeled as a spherical shape with a weight of 400 kg, and each drop height is converted to a corresponding impact velocity to save computational time. The roadway model is comprised of an asphalt layer, base layer, sub-base layer, and sub-grade layer. In this paper, the asphalt is modeled using a linear elastic model. The base layer, sub-base layer, and sub-grade layer are modeled using a Mohr-Coulomb model. From the analyses, the effects of the drop height on the damages and stresses are examined and discussed.
The main purpose of this paper is to identify the important parameters and to examine their relations to one another while gantry crane structure was modeled. The important elements of the structural analysis are included, such as the stiffness matrix and its relations to the degrees of freedom, the displacement, and frequency responses. To investigate these relations, the parametric modeling of a dynamic system is solved by using the finite element method (ANSYS-Program). Furthermore, EXPRESS schema and C-FAR (change favorable representation) are described how to change the frame length of gantry crane which influences other elements. Since this relationship is established, the results may...
Damping out high frequency low amplitude structural vibrations using PZT bimorph is presented. Static and Dynamic analyses of the piezoelectric bimorph bender were performed. Three layer piezoelectric actuators were modeled with SOLID5 coupled-field elements using ANSYS. Static deflection and modal analyses of the piezoelectric bimorph bender are presented. Proper tuning of the values of the resistor and inductor in the shunt circuit is required for maximum vibration suppression.
This paper reports part of a comprehensive research study conducted at the University of Queensland on the ability of CFRP web-bonded systems in strengthening an exterior beam-column joint subjected to monotonic loads. One 1/2.2 scaled plain and four CFRP repaired/retrofitted joints subjected to monotonic loads were analysed using the nonlinear finite-element program ANSYS and the results were calibrated against experiments. The ANSYS model was employed in order to account for tension stiffening in concrete after cracking and a modified version of the Hognestad's model was used to model the concrete compressive strength. The stress-strain properties of main steel bars were modelled using multilinear isotropic hardening model and the FRPs were modelled as anisotropic materials. A perfect bond was assumed as nodes were shared between adjacent elements irrespective of their type. Good agreement between the numerical predictions and the experimental observation of the failure mechanisms for all specimens were observed. Closeness of these results proved that the numerical analysis can be used by design engineers for the analysis of web-bonded FRP strengthened beam-column joints with confidence.
A flat-type L$_1$-B$_{8}$ Mode Ultrasonic motor(USM) uses longitudinal-bending multi-mode vibrator which is constructed with the metal-piezoceramic composite thin plate vibrator. Especially, the characteristics of vibrating displacement of the vibrator are important for the fabrication of USM. So, in this study, we tried to analyze them by the FEM(finite element method) simulation program. ANSYS 5.6 we used is a finite element software enabling the analysis of 2 or 3 dimensional structure of piezoelectric materials. Using this made us analyzing the resonance frequency and calculating displacement of vibrator and then the position of the projection.n.
A machine such as bean crusher machine is subjected to different loads and vibration. Due to this vibration there will be certain deformations which affect the performance of the machine in adverse manner. This paper proposed a vibration analysis of bean crusher machine using ANSYS. The Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis is carried out to study the effect of vibration on the structure in order to ensure the safety. This work helps the machine developer make a better product at the early design stage with lower cost and faster development time. To do this, firstly, using Inventor, a CAD model is prepared. Secondly, the analysis is to be carried out using ANSYS 15. The modal analysis and random vibration analysis of the structure was conducted. The analysis shows that the proposed design was successfully shows the minimum deformation when the vibration was applied in normal condition.
