  • This paper proposes the method to extract a binary audio fingerprint by combining several base binary fingerprints. Based on majority voting of base fingerprints, which are designed by mimicking the fingerprint used in Philips fingerprinting system, the proposed fingerprint is determined. In the matching part, the base fingerprints are extracted from the query, and distance is computed using the sum of them. In the experiments, the proposed fingerprint outperforms the base binary fingerprints. The method can be used for enhancing the existing binary fingerprint or for designing a new fingerprint.

  • We propose an individual authentication method based on optical visual cryptography in thata fingerprint data is processed by secret sharing method taking into account the optical visual cryptograph and a part of shared data transmitted through an open network. Whenever it is necessary, submitting his fingerprint with the other shared information can authenticate the owner of the fingerprint. The system efficiently identifies fingerprints through optical correlation, regardless of difficulties of acquisition of exact fingerprint imagein the various environments.

  • In this paper, we propose a new fingerprint feature extraction method using the convex structure. A fingerprint minutiae flows along the uniform direction and is regarded as a sinusoidal signal across the normal direction. Local maxima of the signal represent coarse thinned one-pixel-wide ridges in which the convex region of the signal correspond to ridges. The proposed fingerprint feature extraction method detects the convex structure and local maxima. Finally fingerprint features are extracted from one-pixel-wide ridges. Because it has no parameter, it is efficient for various fingerprint identification systems.

  • In this paper, a method for classifying fingerprint ridge lines using runlength codes is proposed. To detect feature points(minutiae) in automatic fingerprint identification system(AFIS), classification of fingerprint ridge lines are essential process. The fingerprint ridge lines are classified by run-length coding, and also the end and bifurcation regions in ridge lines are separated. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, detected feature regions including minutiae points and classified fingerprint ridge lines are shown.

  • By using high-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detection, a simple and accurate chromatographic fingerprint method was developed for the identification of Radix Codonopsis (roots of Codonopsis) from different sources. Eighteen herbs of Codonopsis at different habitats in China, including roots from Codonopsis pilosula, Codonopsis pilosula var. modesta and Codonopsis tangshen were analyzed by the fingerprint. The amount of lobetyolin was calibrated, which was found to be more consistent in roots of Codonopsis pilosula as compared to that of Codonopsis pilosula var. modesta and Codonopsis tangshen. Having the fingerprint results, hierarchical clustering analyses were performed to classify the eighteen herbs into three groups: Codonopsis pilosula, Codonopsis pilosula var. modesta and Codonopsis tangshen. This clustering analysis agrees very well with the pharmacognostic identification result, and which could be used as a tool in the quality control of Radix Codonopsis.

  • The personal identification procedure through the fingerprints is divided as the classification process by the type of the fingerprints and the matching process to confirm oneself. Many existing researches for the classification and the matching of the fingerprint depend on the number of the minutiae of the fingerprints and the flow patterns by their direction information. In this paper, we focus on extracting the singular points by using the flow patterns of the direction information from identification. The extracted singular points are utilized as a standard point for the matching process by connecting with the extracted information from the singular point embodied. The orthogonal coordinates which is generated by the axises of the standard point can increase the accuracy of the fingerprints matching because of minimizing the effects on the location changes of the fingerprint images.

  • It is rapidly increasing number using Hi-pass system passing through tollgate on the high way. However disabled people and man of merit have been excepted existing advantage of discount when they are using Hi-Pass. It is difficult to make a check an advantage when they are in a vehicle for using Hi-pass system technology in present. For solving this problem, we have fabricated virtual Hi-pass system combined fingerprint identification system (FIS) by AVR and fingerprint identification USB. We checked the chance of efficiency and utility in this system for getting a solution of conservative problem. And, it will be also used for entrance ticketing and transferring of cave tourism and so on.

  • We propose a rotation invariant fingerprint identification system based on the circular harmonic filter(CHF) and binary phase extraction joint transform correlator(BPEJTC) for validation and security verification. It is shown that this system has the shift and rotation robust properties and can recognize the fingerprint in real-time. The complex circular harmonic filter, which is used to obtain the rotation invariance, is converted into the real-valued filter for real-time implementation. Experimental results show that this system has a good performance in the rotated fingerprints.

  • Most of the Automatic Fingerprint Identification Systems define the ridge endings and bifurcation points as the minutia for matching. Therefore, the precise extraction of the minutia is critical in raising the efficiency and reliability of the system. The fingerprint images produced through the preprocessing may have the false minutia happened over the process and they can be the factors to decrease the system efficiency This paper suggests the algorithm, which removes the false minutia after extracting the candidate minutia from the thinned binary images of fingerprint images.

  • Fingerprints play a crucial role in the identification of potential suspects in criminal cases. However, determining the actual time, i.e., the time at which the fingermark was deposited, is challenging. Herein, we investigated the persistence and aging of fingerprints over time by observing the time evolution of latent fingerprints on a polystyrene box stored in a dark room. Fingerprint samples that were stored for up to two years could be detected with maximum accuracy using a black iron-oxide-based emulsion (black emulsion). To estimate the time of fingerprint deposition, fingerprint aging was studied by analyzing the lipid components of the fingerprints after their development. Cholesterol and squalene were selected as indicators of fingerprint aging, and their ratio was estimated to assess aging. In the case of fingerprint samples stored in a dark room for up to one month after deposition, the cholesterol/squalene ratio was approximately 0.01; it increased gradually to ≥ 0.1 over six months. A substantial reduction in the levels of cholesterol and squalene from the initial levels was also noted. Cholesterol and squalene were not detected after one year of storage. Thus, the extent of aging could be determined by analyzing the aging indicators for up to six months. Two cases that could cause error in the estimation of the fingerprint deposition time, namely, heating of the fingerprint sample before development and storage of the developed fingerprints in a dark room, were also investigated.
