  • Ti-6Al-4V has low specific gravity, high corrosion resistance and superior mechanical properties but it is very difficult to control oxygen content in MIM process. It is necessary to use powders with coarse particle size to decrease oxygen content of powders, so feedstocks with poor fluidity and sintered bodies with lower density are obtained in such cases. Fine titanium hydride-dehydride powders were blended with atomized powders to accomplish higher fluidity and sintered density. Sintered bodies had higher sintered density and mechanical properties equivalent to those of wrought materials by controlling oxygen content less than 0.35mass%.

  • Al-8Fe-2Mo-2V-1Zr alloys were prepared by the gas atomization/hot extrusion and the melt spinning/hot extrusion. For the gas atomized and extruded alloy, equiaxed grains with the average size of 400 nm and finely distributed dispersoids with their particle sizes ranging from 50nm to 200nm were observed. For the melt spun and hot extrusion processed alloy, refined microstructural feature consisting of equiaxed grains with the average size of 200nm and fine dispersoids with their particle sizes under 50nm appeared to exhibit a difference in microstructure. Strength of the latter alloy was higher than that for the former alloy up to elevated temperatures.

  • This research reports for the successful consolidation of $Al_2O_3$ powder with retained ultra-fine structure using MPC and sintering. Measurements in the consolidated $Al_2O_3$ bulk indicated that hardness, fracture toughenss, and breakdown voltage have been much improved relative to the conventional polycrystalline materials. Finally, optimization of the compaction parameters and sintering conditions will lead to the consolidation of $Al_2O_3$ nanopowder with higher density and even further enhanced mechanical properties.

  • In this study, fine cathode materials $Ni_3S_2$ and $NiS_2$ were synthesized using the simple, convenient process of mechanical alloying (MA). In order to improve the cell properties, wet milling processes were conducted using low-energy ball milling to decrease the mean particle size of both materials. The cells of Na/$Ni_3S_2$ and Na/$NiS_2$ show a high initial discharge capacity of 425 mAh/g and 577 mAh/g respectively using wet milled powder particles, which is much larger than commercial ones, providing some potential as new cathode materials for rechargeable sodium-ion batteries.

  • The syntheses of LaNiO$_3$Perovskite crystalline phase from mixtures of La$_2$O$_3$and NiO via it mechanochemical(used planetary mill) and a wet ball mill process were investigated. A single and stable LaNiO$_3$perovskite crystalline phase was successfully prepared by using a heat free mechanochemical process which produced a fine amorphous powder, while that phase was not formed in a wet ball mill process which needed heat treatment ranging from 500 to 150$0^{\circ}C$ and produced a coarse powder. It was shown that the LaNiO$_3$ceramics made of the mechanochemically synthesized powder possesed a good metallic characteristic.

  • This study is to investigate experimentally the engineering characteristics of cement mortar incorporating both recycled aggregate powder (RP) below 0.08 mm and cement kiln dust(CKD). RP is substituted for fine aggregate ranged from 5~15% and CKD is also substituted for RP from 10~30%. The use of RP resulted in a decrease in flow value at fresh mortar, while an increase in CKD did not affect the flow value significantly. The combination of RP and CKD provided slight increase in compressive strength at early and 28 days and in the high curing temperature at early age showed an increasing Strength value.

  • YAG(Y3Al5O12) as host material of YAG:Tb3+ was studied via hydrothermal synthesis of metal hydroxides. We changed the kind of mineralizer, the concentrations and process conditions in hydrothermal synthesis. As a result, we found, acicular YAG powders were obtained by the use of KOH as a mineralizer, the concentration of KOH affected the shape and size of YAG powder. Fine grained YAG were perpared by the use of NH4OH as a mineralizer and the concentration of NH4OH affected crystal phases but did not affect particle size. We could finally get the spherical looking YAG powder at 8 M NH4OH and at 35$0^{\circ}C$ for 12h. The average particle size was about 0.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

  • The preparation of composite powders for plasma spraying by an in-house designed mechanofusion process is investigated. Results show that dry particle coating depends on the chemical and mechanical properties of powders. In metal/oxide and metal/oxide/carbide powder mixtures, fine ceramic particles coat the surface of the metallic coarser particles. A nearly rounded shape of the final composite particles is induced by the mechanical energy input with no formation of new phases. However with the carbide/metal powdered system, only an intimate mixture of components is achieved. It is suggested that the coating mechanism is governed by agglomeration and rolling phenomena.

  • This study aims to investigate the usage of nano-scale particles in a micro metal injection molding ($\mu$-MIM) process. Nanoscale particle is effective to improve transcription and surface roughness in small structure. Moreover, the effects of hybrid micro/nano particles, Cu/Cu and SUS/Cu were investigated. Small dumbbell specimens were produced using various feedstocks prepared by changing binder content and fraction of nano-scale Cu particle (0.3 and $0.13{\mu}m$ in particle size). The effects of adding the fraction of nano-scale Cu powder on the melt viscosity of the feedstock, microstructure, density and tensile strength of sintered parts were discussed.

  • The hypereutectic Al-20 wt%Si powders including some amount of Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn were prepared by a gas atomization process. In order to get highly densified Al-Si bulk specimens, the as-atomized and sieved powders were extruded at $500^{\circ}C$, Microstructure and tensile properties of the extruded Al-Si alloys were investigated in this study. Relative density of the extruded samples was over 98%. Ultimate tensile strength (UTS) in stress-strain curves of the extruded powders increased after T6 heat treatments. Elongation of the samples was also increased from 1.4% to 3.2%. The fracture surfaces of the tested pieces showed a fine microstructure and the average grain size was about $1{\mu}m$.
