Hot Petroleum Drying Method to the Preparation of Multicomponent Oxide Ceramic Material (다성분계 산화물의 요업재료 제조를 위한 석유 증발 건조 방법)

  • As a wet chemical drying process "hot petroleum drying method" was applied and developed for preparing uniformly fine oxide powder with high purity and sinterreactivity. Using this method solution of sulfates was dried in hot petroleum bath (~17$0^{\circ}C$) to sulfate powder from which corresponding mullite doped by Fe3+ ion was formed. Particle size, shape, decomposition by heat, and phase identification of sulfate andoxide powders determined by DTA, TGA, X-ray diffraction, analysis and electron microscopy: sulfate powder prepared by this drying method is an intimate mixture of the amorphous form of uniformly and finely distributed spherical particles (0.05-0.1$\mu$). Mullitization with the sulfate powder occurs at 110$0^{\circ}C$ in air. The morphology of mullite particle made by firing the sulfate powder at 135$0^{\circ}C$ in oxygen atmosphere is granular of 0.1-0.3$\mu$ in size. This drying process proved to be a very effective method for preparing fine, homogeneous, and highly sinterreactive multicomponent oxide powder without conventional ceramic process of mixing, milling, and granulating.   • Nowadays the using of concrete is generalized, and construction material is demanded to be lightweight according to increasing the height and capacity of buildings. Therefore, it needs to develop the products having the great quality and various performance. Extruding concrete panel made of cement, silica source, and fiber, and it is a good lightweight concrete material in durability and thermostable. The silica of important ingredient is natural material with hish SiO2 contents and difficult in supply because of conservation of environment. On the other hand, the stone powder sludge discharged about 20-30% at making process of crushed fine aggregate and it is wasted. The stone powder sludge is valuable instead of silica ole because the stone powder sludge includes water of about 20-60%, SiO2 of about 64% and it has fine particles. This experiment is on the properties of extruding concrete panel using the stone powder sludge use instead of silica. From this experiment, we find that it is possible to replace the silica as stone power sludge up to 50%,

  • Newly modified spray Pyrolysis system was developed to Produce ultra Pure and fine Powder by spray Pyrolysis Process. In this system, raw material solution was effectively atomized and sprayed into the reaction furnace. Also, thermal decomposition process fully completed in the three zone reaction furnace, and produced powder was effectively collected. A technology to reduce impurities in complex acid solution below 20ppm was also developed. The characteristics of produced powder were studied by changing the reaction conditions such as reaction temperature, the injection velocity of the solution and air, nozzle tip size and concentration of solution. The morphology of powder had spherical shape under the most experimental conditions, and the composition and the particle size distribution were almost uniform. Under the most experimental conditions average particle size of most produced powder was below 100nm.

Ball Milling and Sintering Behavior of High Speed Steel Powders Containing VC and Co (VC 및 Co함유 고속도공구강 분말의 볼밀링 및 소결거동)

  • Cobalt and VC powders were ball milled with M2 grade high speed steel powders under various ball to powder ratios. The powders milled under higher ball to powder ratio become finer, more irregular and have a broader size distribution, and thus possess a lower compressibility and a better sinterability regarding densification. Increasing the ball to powder ratio lowered the sintering temperature to obtain the density level necessary to isolate all the pores. Lowering the sintering temperature is very critical to maintain fine microstructure since grain and carbide coarsening are accelerated by higher sintering temperature due to more liquid phase formation. The powders obtained by ball milling at 20 to 1 ratio has the lowest compressibility but has the best sinterability, almost compatible to unmilled pure M2 powders. A sintered body over 97% theoretical density with fine microstructures having average grain size of ~10 microns was obtained from the powder by sintering at 1260 $^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour in vacuum. XRD results indicate that two types of carbides are mainly present in the sintered structure, MC and $M_{6}C$ type. The MC type carbides are more or less round shaped and mainly located at the grain boundaries whereas the $M_{6}C$ type are angular shaped and mainly located inside the grains.

Effect of pumice powder and artificial lightweight fine aggregate on self-compacting mortar

  • An experimental program was conducted to investigate the fresh properties, mechanical properties and durability characteristics of the self-compacting mortars (SCM) produced with pumice powder and Artificial Lightweight Fine Aggregate (aLWFA). aLWFA was produced by using fly ash. A total of 16 different mixtures were designed with a constant water-binder ratio of 0.37, in which natural sands were partially replaced with aLWFA and pumice powder at different volume fractions of 5%, 10% and 15%. The artificial lightweight aggregates used in this study were manufactured through cold bonding pelletisation of 90% of class-F fly ash and 10% of Portland cement in a tilted pan with an ambient temperature and moisture content. Flowability tests were conducted on the fresh mortar mixtures beforehand, to determine the self-compacting characteristics on the basis of EFNARC. To determine the conformity of the fresh mortar characteristics with the standards, mini-slump and mini-V-funnel tests were carried out. Hardened state tests were conducted after 7, 28 and 56 days to determine the flexural strength and axial compressive strength respectively. Durability, sorptivity, permeability and density tests were conducted at the end of 28 days of curing time. The test results showed that the pumice powder replacement improved both the fresh state and the hardened state characteristics of the mortar and the optimum mixture ratio was determined as 15%, considering other studies in the literature. In the aLWFA mixtures used, the mechanical and durability characteristics of the modified compositions were very close to the control mixture. It is concluded in this study that mixtures with pumice powder replacement eliminated the negative effects of the aLWFA in the mortars and made a positive contribution.

An Experimental Study on Field Application of Self-Compacting Concrete Using Recycled Fine Aggregate (순환잔골재를 혼입한 자기충전 콘크리트의 현장적용을 위한 실험적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study, looking to which the recycled fine aggregates from waste concrete have a lot of problems as a material for structure purpose, is applying the recycled fine aggregate to Self-Compacting Concrete(In the reminder of this paper, it often referred to as SCC) by using the characteristic which the powder containing the recycled fine aggregates can increase strength and liquidity. In this study, that is, the recycled fine aggregate powder is appropriate for developing high strength(over 40 MPa) and liquidity(JSCE 2 grade), the characteristic of the SCC and it was increased the ratio of mixing the recycled fine aggregates emerging from waste concrete and the normal fine aggregates by 25%, making differential in total 5 levels and applied to SCC. After all, this study was reviewed the physical properties of the fresh concrete, analyzed the mechanical properties and durability of the hardening concrete and tried to ensure the possibility of utilizing the recycled fine aggregates as a material for SCC. As a result, this study reached a conclusion that among the 5-level replacement ratios of the physical, mechanical analysis and the durability characteristics, the normal fine aggregates could be applied up to a replacement ratio of 50% more than the recycled fine aggregates and resulted in a deterioration in performance the replacement ratio larger than 50%. It is judged that the applicability of the real structures should be followed up in order to check the possibility of applying the recycled fine aggregates to real life.
