The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data on the optimum method for interfacial separation for an effective recycle of concrete waste by using the thermal properties of concrete. Therefore, this study is proceeded by dividing the interface of concrete into cement paste and fine aggregates or mortar and coarse aggregate, considering the aspect of recycled cement and aggregate as the recycling use of concrete waste. As results of the experiment, in case of recycle cement, the interfacial separation is easily appeared, but it is shown that the mixed amount of powder included in fine aggregate doesn't greatly decrease. But, in case of recycle coarse aggregate, the effect of interfacial separation by preliminary heating is predominant. Especially, the bonding rate of mortar is the lowest when it is heated 5 times for 120 minutes at $300^{\circ}C$. Hence, it is considered that it will be an excellent effect of quality control when the results of this study is applied to a manufacturing system of recycle coarse aggregate which is about to put into practical use.

Predicting the compressive strength of concrete has been considered as the initial phase across the cement production processing. The current study has focused on the integration of the concrete compressive strength in 28 days with the mix of the major oxides and fine aggregates as an experimental formula through the use of two types of Portland cement resulting the compressive strength of the concrete highly dependent on time.

This study reviewed the effect of W/B, WO and curing method on the quality properties of RA using the BS brick under the zero cement condition. compressive strength was found to show an increasing trend as W/B increased, but to show a improvement in case steam curing was conducted, showing a higher increase at 1 day age in comparison with 7 day age. In addition, the compressive strength on the mixing of WO didn't show any specific trend. The absorption tended to decrease as W/B increased and met the less than 10% regulation value at 30~35% W/B in case WO was used, there appeared a decrease attributable to capillary pore filling effect due to saponification. On the other hand, compressive strength increases, th absorption showed a gradually decreasing tendency.
The objective of this research is to evaluate engineering properties of recycled aggregates, slag as coarse & fine aggregate and waste foundry sand(WFS) as fine aggregate, in hot mix asphalt(HMA). In this research, soundness, gradation and particle analysis, abrasion, specific gravity and absorption test were carried out. The optimum asphalt binder content(OAC) for various HMA combinations of recycled aggregate was determined by Marshall Mix Design. The ranges determined is between 7.2% and 7.5%. Indirect tensile test, resilient modulus test, creep test were carried out for characterization of rutting behavior of various combination of HMA. Judging from the limited tests, the HMA with recycled aggregates is not as good rutting resistance as the HMA with common aggregates. After finishing the Wheel tracking test, the application or feasibility for the use of recycled aggregate as asphalt paving material will be determined.
Construction waste mainly consists of concrete aggregates of various size. Improper handling of concrete waste would be a major environmental problem whereas its recycling would be both economically useful and environmentally friendly. Bigger concrete aggregates are crushed and converted to medium and fine particles to make them recyclable. An apparatus to separate the concrete aggregates by their size is thus needed for their effective recycling. In this work, segregation of concrete particles in air flows from a newly designed rotary separator having three stages of blades is simulated using a commercial software, ANSYS-CFX. Both 2-D and 3-D models with 360, 240 and 180 blades in each stage are considered. Fundamental mechanism of separation of particles(pase) and the effect of design parameters such as particle size, rotor speed, air flow rate etc. on the performance of the separator are investigated. Critical size of particles that can be separated by the developed separator is also presented in this work. Simulation results are overall in good agreement with data predicted from the theoretical model previously reported in the companion paper.

In this study, the quality of blast furnace slag and the engineering properties of recycled aggregate based mortar with variable replacement of blast furnace slag have been focused. Blast furnace slag(BS) manufactured in various areas in Korea were prepared for this study. For the investigation results, 4 types(among the all of 9 types) of the experimental results were identified as below the standard level when using blast furnace slag chosen from different factories. Especially the particle size of the blast furnace slag was considered as the largest problem. When using BS in the recycled aggregates based mortar, the increase amount of blast furnace slag, increased the fluidity but delayed the setting time and decreased strength at early age. Based on the relationship of the amount of BS and the engineering properties of mortar, this study found that the amount of $SO_3$ and L.O.I affect the setting time, 3 days strength and 91 days strength to the certain standard level.

Steel industry produces many by-products and wastes such as blast furnace slag, electric arc furnace slag, and converter slag. As in the case of rock, the main component of steel slag are CaO and $SiO_2$ ; further, steel slag is as alkaline as portland cement or concrete. Electric arc furnace oxidizing slag is possible to use as an aggregate for concrete ; however, it has been reclaimed because of it's expansibility caused by free CaO. Recently, a innovative rapid cooling method for melting steel slag has been developed in Korea, which reduces free lime content to minimum level and increases the stability of iron oxide. Therefore, this study describes the results of a series of research to utilize globular shape of electric arc furnace oxidizing slag fine aggregates made by rapidly cooled method for the construction industry by cooling rapidly melted slag from the steel industry. First of all, an experiment was carried out to investigate the quality characteristics of rapidly cooled electric arc furnace oxidizing slag fine aggregates in order to determine whether they can be applied to the construction industry. Then, by applying them to concrete of various particle sizes, we explored experimentally the desired condition to apply rapidly cooled electric arc furnace oxidizing slag fine aggregates to concrete.
Predicting carbon distribution of soil aggregates is difficult due to complexity in organo-mineral formation. This limits global warming mitigation through soil carbon sequestration. Therefore, knowledge of land use effect on carbon stabilization requires quantification of soil mineral cations. The study was conducted to quantify carbon and base cations on soil mineral fractions in Natural Forest, Plantation Forest and Farm Land. Five 0.09 ha were demarcated alternately along 500 m long transect with an interval of 50 m in Natural Forest (NF), Plantation Forest (PF) and Farm Land (FL). Soil samples were collected with soil cores at 0-15, 15-30 and 30-45 cm depths in each plot. Soil core samples were oven-dried at 105℃ and soil bulk densities were computed. Sample (100 g) of each soil core was separated into >2.0, 2.0-1.0, 1.0-0.5, 0.5-0.05 and <0.05 mm aggregates using dry sieve procedure and proportion determined. Carbon concentration of soil aggregates was determined using Loss-on-ignition method. Mineral fractions of soil depths were obtained using dispersion, sequential extraction and sedimentation methods of composite soil samples and sieved into <0.05 and >0.05 mm fractions. Cation exchange capacity of two mineral fractions was measured using spectrophotometry method. Data collected were analysed using descriptive and ANOVA at α0.05. Silt and sand particle size decreased while clay increased with increase in soil depth in NF and PF. Subsoil depth contained highest carbon stock in the PF. Carbon concentration increased with decrease in aggregate size in soil depths of NF and FL. Micro- (1-0.5, 0.5-0.05 and <0.05 mm) and macro-aggregates (>2.0 and 2-1.0 mm) were saturated with soil carbon in NF and FL, respectively. Cation exchange capacity of <0.05 mm was higher than >0.05 mm in soil depths of PF and FL. Fine silt (<0.05 mm) determine the cation exchange capacity in soil depths. Land use and mineral size influence the carbon and cation exchange capacity of Gambari Forest Reserve.

Mortar has been applied in most previous studies on 3D concrete printing. In such cases, however, the economic efficient cannot help decreasing due to higher binder contents and larger amount of fine aggregates. In order to enhance the applicability of 3D printing technology to construction industry, therefore, 3D concrete printing technology utilizing coarse aggregates needs to be developed further. This study aims at proposing the mix design process of concrete containing coarse aggregates for 3D printing. Based on extensive literature review and experimental studies, the mix proportion suitable for 3D printing has been derived, and the extrudability of concrete with coarse aggregates has been verified through 3D printing tests. The primary variable of the extrudability tests was the contents of viscosity modifying agent (VMA), and the extrudability was quantitatively evaluated by measuring dimensions, distribution of aggregates, and surface quality of 3D-printed filaments. The test results showed that the dimensional suitability and surface quality were improved as the VMA contents were larger, and the coarse aggregates were evenly distributed in the section of filament regardless of the VMA contents. Based on the test results, the mix design process for concrete containing coarse aggregates for 3D printing has been proposed.
