  • An appreciable number of Chinese firms have successfully expanded their businesses into foreign economics although they have limited resources. Advocating that home country government supports can mitigate firms' resource-disadvantages in international expansions, we attempted to investigate whether and how the Chinese government's support enables Chinese firms to compete in foreign markets. Based heavily on the knowledge-based theory of the firm and the resource-based theory of the firm, we developed a model that explain and predicts the effects of home-country government-supports on superior financial performance. The model was empirically tested using a accounting dataset regarding Chinese firms' 323 international expansion events from 2008 to 2015. Empirical evidence presents that the Chinese government's support has a positive effect on Chinese firms' international success and that these firms' marketing, technological, and managerial resources positively moderate the effect of the government support on the firms' international success. Nonetheless, because we employed an event-study method, the limitations of the method can be applied to the current research. In addition, because of the empirical context, the results of the research might lack generalizability. We, however, provided an understanding how firms from emerging countries can succeed in international expansions specifically when they have lack of resources for international competition.

  • The main purpose of the present study are as follows: First, through the extensive literature review, we tried to find out environmental changes in the management thoughts. Second, as we found a new paradigm on valuation-oriented management thoughts, we argued that cost/management accounting information should play key roles in creating values. Third, we pointed out that when firms used only financial performance measurements, problems could take places. Finally, especially to promote the organizational effectiveness and efficiency, we stressed that firms should use the balanced scorecard approach in performance measurements of its own organizations and personnels.

  • Information Technology (IT) and the internet have been major drivers the changes in all aspects of the business processes and activities. They have brought major changes to the financial statements audit environment as well, which in turn has required modifications in audit procedures. There exist, however, certain difficulties with current audit procedures especially for the assessment of the level of control risk. This assessment is primarily based on the auditors' professional judgment and experiences, not based on the objective hies or criteria. To overcome these difficulties, this paper proposes a prototype decision support model named CRAS-CBR using case based reasoning (CBR) to support auditors in making their professional judgment on the assessment of the level of control risk of the general accounting system in the manufacturing industry. To validate the performance, we compare our proposed model with benchmark performances in terms of classification accuracy for the level of control risk. Our experimental results showed CRAS-CBR outperforms a statistical model (MDA) and staff auditor performance in average hit ratio.

  • Internal control is important for monitoring operations of organizations. In order to achieve the quality of internal control, organizations need to recognize different perspectives in which the components of internal control play a decisive role. Internal control is a process designed by the manager and it is applied within the organization to provide reasonable assurance of the reliability of financial information and to comply with policies, procedures, rules, regulations and laws. The article uses the ordinary least squares method and the seven-point Likert scale to test the variables affecting the quality of internal control in 18 Vietnamese listed banks. The article surveyed 179 leaders of listed banks. The results show that there are three variables out of a total of five variables that positively affect the quality of internal control, including the control environment, control activities, and monitoring. Accordingly, the managers of Vietnamese listed banks need to pay attention to building a corporate culture environment, improve the quality of control activities, and periodically and regularly conduct the monitoring. It contributes to improving the quality of internal control and is also an opportunity to increase economic benefits for Vietnamese listed banks in the context of international economic integration.

  • It has been reported that there is a significant positive relationship between the unexpected earnings on the earnings announcement date and the cumulative abnormal returns following the earnings announcement date. This study investigates whether the results of prior studies are because the public announcement of shareholders' meeting date was selected as the event date instead of either the preliminary earnings disclosure date or the profit/loss change announcement date. The results of this study are as follows. First, post-earnings-announcement drift(PEAD) occurs when unexpected earnings were computed based on the prior period earnings and the public announcement of the shareholders' meeting date as the profit disclosure date. Second, when analyzing the PEAD with the unexpected earnings calculated using the financial analysts' forecasts, no PEAD has been found both on the date of the shareholders' meeting and the earlier date of the preliminary earnings disclosure, profit/loss change announcement, or the public announcement of the shareholders' meeting. Foster et al. (1984) analyze the PEAD using time series model and earnings forecasting model and suggest that the PEAD appears only in the time series model. In this study, too, in the case of using analysts' profit forecasts, the lack of the PEAD shows that the PEAD can be changed according to the method of measuring the unexpected earnings.

  • This research examines the impact of audit quality on the extent to which firm-specific information is integrated with a firm's share price - which is determined inversely using stock price synchronicity. The study sample consists of non-financial companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange i.e., the Jordanian Stock Market, from 2014-2018. After examining 810 firm-year observations from Jordanian industrial companies listed on the ASE, during the study period, we find that the companies using one of the BIG4 audit firms for auditing have less synchronous and more informative stock prices, suggesting high-quality audit improved governance and reduce information asymmetry between firms' insiders and investors which enhances the capitalization of firm's specific information into the stock price, thus less synchronous and more informative stock return. The findings remain consistent over 2 separate measurements of stock price synchronicity (Market and Industry model and Market Model) and show robustness for fixed effect tests. Our multivariate regression results are also robust after controlling for a number of features at the firm level with potential associations with stock price synchronicity. These include the firm size, leverage, return on assets (ROA), and market to book value (MBV).
