An experiment was conducted to investigate the nutritional and economic effects of complete replacement of maize with sun-dried cassava (SDC) in the diet of broiler chickens raised from one day of age to seven weeks. The complete replacement of maize by SDC resulted in a 10 percent reduction (p<0.05) in final bodyweights (1.91 vs 1.72 kg); and a 5 percent reduction (p>0.05) in average feed intake (4.01 vs 3.81 kg). Feed efficiency was not affected (p > 0.05). Cost per kilogramme of feed was reduced by nearly 30 percent and cost per kilogramme of bodyweight gain lowered by about 26 percent by using SDC diet. Relative profit return after accounting for cost of feed and cost of day old chick was higher by 11 percent on the SDC diet. It was concluded that despite the reduction in final bodyweight, the attractive economic return obtained from using SDC, a locally produced ingredient, may be justified in place of maize which is imported.
Universal design is an approach to create environments and products that recognizes the diversity of users, regardless of their ability or age. Recently, old person and disabled person rapidly go on increasing in number. So, universal design concept becomes more and more important in product and environment, etc. In this study, we dealt with the universal design problem of microwave oven considering old persons. New design model for microwave oven was developed and evaluated using human factors approach. The principles of universal design was developed through literature survey and questionnaire survey for old persons, and then design alternatives were developed according to these principles. Two experiments were performed in this study. The purpose of the first experiment was to select final design alternative and the experiment was performed using rapid prototypes. The second one was a usability testing for the real model of final alternative. In this experiment, the real model was compared with the existing real product. As the result, the new design model was a little more excellent than the existing model in usability.

The maturity concept was adopted to predict the strength of concrete, which was subjected to several temperature levels and variable curing conditions. Penetration test and compressive test were conducted to measure the initial and final setting time and the compressible strength of concrete specimen, respectively. Also, the temperature and time were measured at some time intervals for calculating the maturity. The initial and final setting were delayed as the w/c ratio increased and curing temperature decreased. The relationships at the relative strength and the equivalent age were proposed at different w/c ratio for the several temperature curing conditions, and these were applied for the variable curing conditions.
The purpose of this study was examine the effects of the conspicuous consumption tendency by age on fashion involvement. Questionnaires were distributed to 554 females in their 20s-50s. for the final analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, as a result of the examination of the differences between conspicuous consumption and fashion involvement by age, people in their 20s showed the highest conspicuous consumption and fashion involvement. Second, as a result of the analysis of the effects of the conspicuous consumption by age on the fashion involvement, people in their 20s and 30s influenced the appearance management among the factors of the individuality pursuit orientation and those in the 40s physical supplementation and appearance management and those in the 50s the physical supplementation and sexual appeal. The brand orientation factor influenced social symbol to all the people in their 20s to 50s and the high price orientation factor did not influence any of the people in their 20s to 50s. The trend pursuit orientation factor showed its influence on appearance management to those in their 30s and sexual appeal and conformity to those in their 40s.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between periodontitis, obesity, and health behavior according to sex and age in Korean adults. Methods: Data on 11,032 adults aged 19-79 years were obtained from the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHNES). We used multivariate logistic regression analysis to test for associations. Results: The final model that was adjusted for demographic characteristics and health status, showed a higher risk of periodontitis with increasing body mass index (BMI), smoking, failure to use oral care products, and no dental check up. In the sub-group analysis, only smoking was significant in the 19 to 39-year-old age groups. In the 40 to 64-year-old age group, a BMI of 30 or higher, and smoking, use of oral care products, and dental check-up were significantly associated with periodontitis. In the female group, BMI, smoking, use of oral care products, and dental check-up were significantly related to periodontitis. However, in males, only smoking was significant. Conclusions: Obesity management can be helpful for periodontal health as periodontitis prevalence in adults increased as BMI increased. For periodontal health, an oral health program should include smoking cessation and the use of oral care products and dental check up as part of obesity management.

Background: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the functional and radiologic outcomes of additive augmentation sutures through rotator cuff for proximal humeral fractures stabilized locking plate in elderly patients. Methods: We enrolled 74 patients over the age of 60 years who received internal fixation using locking plates for proximal humeral fractures. Of these, 50 patients had additive augmentation sutures through rotator cuff. The mean age at the time of surgery was 72.1 years (range, 60-89 years), and the mean follow-up period was 17.5 months (range, 12-62 months). The humeral neck-shaft angle and humeral head height were used as radiological markers to assess the effect of additive augmentation sutures through rotator cuff. We allocated the patients who received additive augmentation sutures into group A and those who did not into group B. Results: At the final follow-up, the mean Korean Showlder Society score and Constant scores were $88.96{\pm}12.1$ and $86.6{\pm}11.9$, respectively, in group A and $86.21{\pm}11.8$ and $85.3{\pm}11.7$, respectively, in group B (p=0.368, 0.271). At the final follow-up, the mean loss in humeral neck-shaft angle from the time of immediate postoperative measurement was $1.6^{\circ}$ in group A and $4.8^{\circ}$ in group B, whereas the mean loss in humeral head height was 0.82 mm in group A and 0.52 mm in group B (p=0.029, 0.178). Conclusions: The surgical outcomes of internal fixation using locking plates for proximal humeral fractures were clinically and radiologically good in elderly patients over the age of 60 years without any observable complications. Further, the loss of humeral head shaft angle at the final follow-up from its initial postoperative measurement was significantly smaller in patients who received an additive augmentation suture than in those who did not. Thus, we conclude that augmentation sutures are a beneficial option for elderly patients that clinicians can consider at the time of surgical decision making.
Purpose: To determine clinical results for arthroscopic repair of a full-thickness rotator cuff tear using a suture bridge technique. Materials and Methods: Between November, 2007 and October, 2008, we evaluated 90 cases of arthroscopic middle, large rotator tear cuff repair. The mean follow-up period was 15 months (range, 12-23 months). Forty-three cases had medium-sized tears; 47 cases had large-sized tears. At the preoperative stage and again at last follow-up, functional results were assessed by the KSS, ASES, UCLA and the PVAS (Pain visual analogue score). Results: Pain score improved from 2.56 preoperatively to 0.96 at final follow-up; movement scores improved from 6.94 to 1.70. At. final follow-up, the average UCLA score improved from 17.08 to 31.17 with 31 excellent (34%), 49 good (54%) and 10 poor results (12%). The final UCLA score was 31.47 in the group less than 60 years of age and 30.69 in the group over 61 years of age (p=0.344). The UCLA score was 31.23 in those with medium-sized tears and 31.11 in those with large-sized tears (p=0.924). The UCLA score was 31.10 in non-trauma patients and 31.23 in trauma patients (p=0.929). Conclusion: Arthroscopic repair of a full-thickness rotator cuff tear using a suture bridge technique can produce excellent clinical results. These outcomes are not affected by age or trauma history.
