  • Mathematical modeling and performance simulation results were shown for the solar thermal storage system which used heat pipe. The thermal storage system was composed of thermal storage tank and charging/discharging heat exchanger with one by the heat pipes. Heat pipe heat exchanger was attached to system, and could carry out charging and discharging to thermal storage tank at the same time. Height of the thermal storage tank was 600 mm, and that of the charging/discharging heat exchanger was 400 mm. Length of the heat pipe was the same as the total height of thermal storage system, and outer and inner diameter were 25.4 mm(O.D.) and 21.4 mm(I.D.) respectively. Diameter of the circular was 43 mm(O.D.), and fin geometries were considered as the design parameters. High temperature phase change material(PCM), $KNO_3$ and low temperature PCM, $LINO_3$ were charged to storage tank to adjust working temperature. Total size of thermal storage system able to get heat capacity more than 500 kW was calculated and the results were shown in this study. Number of heat pipe was required more than maximum 500, and total length of thermal storage system was calculated to the more than maximum 3 m at various condition.

  • The egg development and early life history of Korean endangered natural monument fish, Iksookimia choii, were investigated in 2006. The eggs from the females were obtained by injecting 10 IU $g^{-1}$ of human chorionic gonadotropin and inseminated by wet method in the laboratory. The fertilized eggs were $1.1\sim1.3mm$ in diameter and had no oil globules. Hatching of the embryo began about 24 hrs after fertilization under water temperature of $25^{\circ}C$. The newly-hatched larvae were $2.5\sim2.7mm$ in total length (TL), and their mouth and anus were not yet opened. Six days after hatching, the postlarvae were $4.7\sim5.4mm$ TL, and tip of the caudal notochord was flexed $45^{\circ}$ upward. The juveniles stage was reached when all fin-rays were formed at 35 days after hatching, and their total length were $20\sim22mm$.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel double gate vertical channel tunneling field effect transistor (DVTFET) with a dielectric sidewall and optimization characteristics. The dielectric sidewall is applied to the gate region to reduced ambipolar voltage ($V_{amb}$) and double gate structure is applied to improve on-current ($I_{ON}$) and subthreshold swing (SS). We discussed the fin width ($W_S$), body doping concentration, sidewall width ($W_{side}$), drain and gate underlap distance ($X_d$), source doping distance ($X_S$) and pocket doping length ($X_P$) of DVTFET. Each of device performance is investigated with various device parameter variations. To maximize device performance, we apply the optimum values obtained in the above discussion of a optimization simulation. The optimum results are steep SS of 32.6 mV/dec, high $I_{ON}$ of $1.2{\times}10^{-3}A/{\mu}m$ and low $V_{amb}$ of -2.0 V.

  • A single specimen (192 cm total length, TL) of the Pacific sleeper shark, Somniosus pacificus, belonging to the family Somniosidae, order Squaliformes, was firstly collected from the west margin of the East Sea, Korea in February 2008. This specimen was characterized by having interdorsal space, being less than the distance between the snout and first gill opening; and the distance between the snout and first dorsal fin origin more than 45% TL; head and body has overall dark brownish. The new Korean name "Jam-sang-eo-gwa" is proposed for the family Somniosidae, and "Jam-sang-eo-sok" for the genus Somniosus, and "Jat-bit-jam-sang-eo" for the species S. pacificus.

  • Due to the ozone depletion and global warming potentials, some refrigerants(CFx and HCFCs) have been rapidly substituted. R410A is considered as the alternative refrigerant of R22 for the air-conditioners used a home and in industry. Experiments on the condensation heat transfer characteristics inside a smooth or a micro-fin tube with R410A are performed in this study. The test tubes 7/9.52 mm in outer diameters and 3 m in length are used. Varying the mass flux of the refrigerant and the condensation temperatures, the average heat transfer coefficients and pressure drop are investigated. It is shown that the heat transfer is enhanced and the amount of pressure drops are larger in the microfin tube than the smooth tube. From the heat transfer enhancement coefficient and the pressure penalty factor, it is found that the high heat transfer enhancement coefficients are obtained in the range of small mass flux while the penalty factors are almost equal.

  • A gobiid fish, Parioglossus dotui Tomiyama is described from 359 specimens collected at Cheju-do and Pusan, in August 1994 of 1986. This is the first definitive record of the species in the Korean waters. Parioglossus dotui having a small-sized body usually is found swimming in schools. The branchiostegals are 5 in number on each side. It grows up to 40mm in total length. Most of ventral fins are separated and connected with rudimentray membrane. In this species, the lateral line were indistincet or absent. The caudal fin slightly emarginates or truncates in both sexes, with a dark spot at the border of the base. It Inhabits inlet waters and estuaries of rivers. "Deungsul mang-dug" is proposed as Korean name of this species.

  • Nine speciments of the deep-sea ophidiid fish, Tauredophidium hexii, hitherto known only from two localities in the Indian Ocean are recorded for the first time the Pacific Ocean. Although slight differences were found in the counts of caudal vertebrae, the anal fin origins in relation to vertebral number and the length of the maxilla, there were no differences between the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean specimens at the species level. This species inhabits abyssal floors in the Pacific and Indian Ocean at depths of about 1500 to 2400 m.

  • This paper did basic study on the vertical-axis wind turbine. Namely, This paper was try to find the optimum conditions by using the ANSYS CFX simulation program through the changes of the main-blade angle and sub-blade angle. Main-blade Shape #4 angle $45^{\circ}$ compared to others Shape angle $0^{\circ}$ was increased by 157.2[%] to 263.2[%] in the power output and was increased by 110[%] to 250[%] in the power coefficient. Also, when the Shape #5 Fin length of main-blade doubles, because the power output was 70.8[%] compared to Shape #1 and 27.5[%] compared to Shape #4, and the power coefficient was 60[%] compared to Shape #1 and 28.6[%] compared to Shape #4, the power output and the power efficiency were rather reduced. The output current of Shape #4 was increased 109.9[%] compared to Shape #1 and increased 250[%] compared to Shape #5, and The output voltage of Shape #4 was increased 22.5[%] compared to Shape #1 and increased 3.7[%] compared to Shape #4.

  • A total of 24 juvenile specimens of Thunnus tonggol (5.45~7.26mm in total length) of the Sombridae were collected from the southeast sea of Jeju Island during 26~30 July, 2013. Twenty-four specimens identified T. tonggol have melanophores distributed on the 1st dorsal-fin rays, the dorsal of head and vetral side. Three individulas were identified using mitochondrial DNA cytochrome oxidase submit 1 (CO1) sequences (452 base pairs). All were identified as T. tonggol, their mtCO1 sequences being consistent with those of Thunnus tonggol (d=0.000), followed by Thunnus albacares (d=0.002) and Thunnus obesus (d=0.007).

  • Cobitis striata testes were paired, with elongate form and suspended on the dorsal body wall. The testicular structure of immature testes composed of many seminal lobules with regular arrangement, whereas mature testes anastomose neighbouring seminal lobules. The spermatozoa of C. striata were anacrosomal aquasperm type and have spherical nucleus. The mid piece of spermatozoa was $0.8{\mu}m$ in length and contained 5~8 ring-shaped mitochondria. The flagellum of the spermatozoa in the present species was uniflagellate consisting of a typical 9+2 axoneme without fins.
