복합재 압력용기의 비파괴 시험과 평가

  • 복합재 압력용기의 제작 및 사용중에 발생하는 결함(손상)의 비파괴검사를 통해 구조물의 건전성을 평가하는 것은 제품의 품질보증 관점에서 아주 중요합니다. 복합재에서는 여러 종류의 결함이 동시에 존재할수 있으며, 결함-기계적 성질-비파괴특성 사이의 상호관계는 완전히 알려져 있지 않습니다. 이글에서는 복합재 연소관에 존재하는 결함의 위험도와 결함 탐지를 위한 비파괴 검사 기법에 대해 먼저 살펴보았습니다. Filament Winding으로 제조한 복합재 연소관의 Proof Testing과 관련해 음향방출(AE)법에 의한 최근의 연구결과를 살펴본 다음, 연소관의 신뢰도 확보를 위한 비파괴 평가 방법에 대해 앞으로의 연구 방향을 제시하였습니다

  • In order to reduce the automotive weight, the study exchanging the steel for FRP in leaf spring has been studied. The purposes of this study are to develop more effective manufacturing process of FRP leaf springs than conventional one and to examine the prototype which is made by the developed process. As the results, we have developed more productive manufacturing process by 3-5 times than the conventional one and made FRP leaf spring with equivalent or higher quality than steel.

  • Due to many advantages of advanced composite materials, research on the application of composites to the construction industry is initiated. In this paper, fabrication methods efficient for infrastructures and application examples of each method are discussed. It also presents the structural characteristics of concrete filled glass fiber reinforced composite tubular member. Experimental results shows that strength and ductility of composite compression member is considerably increased due to concrete confinement action of composite surface.

Buckling of Filament Wound Thick Composite Cylinders under External Hydrostatic Pressure (외부 수압을 받는 필라멘트 와인딩 후판 복합재 원통의 좌굴 연구)

  • The buckling and failure of filament wound thick composite cylinders under external hydrostatic pressure were investigated by the finite element analysis and test. ACOS, MSC.NASTRAN, and MSC.MARC were used for finite element analysis. T700 carbon-epoxy filament wound composite cylinders were fabricated to have winding angles of $[\pm30/90]_{FW}$, $[\pm45/90]_{FW}$, $[\pm60]_{FW}$, $[\pm60/90]_{FW}$, and tested to verify the finite element analysis. Among the softwares, ACOS predicted buckling load the best with about 1.7~14.3% deviation from test. Analysis and test shows cylinders do not recover the initial buckling pressure after buckling and directly lead to final failure.

  • In this paper, the bonding strengths of co-cured T800 carbon/epoxy composite-aluminum single lap joints with and without additional pressures were investigated using the pressure information induced by the fiber tension during a filament winding process. The specimens of all the tests were fabricated by an autoclave vacuum bag de-gassing molding being controlled forming pressures (absolute pressures of 0.1MPa, 0.3MPa and 0.7MPa including vacuum). A special device which can act uniform additional pressures on the joining part of the single lap joint specimen was designed to measure the bonding strengths of composite-aluminum liners of type III hydrogen pressure vessel fabricated by a filament winding process. After the three different additional pressures (absolute pressures of 0.1MPa, 0.3MPa and 0.7MPa) were applied to the specimens the effect of the additional pressures on the bonding strengths of the co-cured single-lap joints were evaluated.

  • As fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) material is appled for a curved structure such as tunnel, FRP material must has a curved shape. Until now, the curved FRP material has been producted by hand-lay-up or filament winding work. It is impossible for mass production of the curved FRP material by these methods. Also, the quality of product by these methods is lower than that by pultrusion method. New pultrusion method and equipment had been developed for production of FRP material with steady curvature. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of freezing and thawing on adhesion of cement concrete with coarse-sand coated FRP in repair and reinforcement of cement-concrete structure using curved FRP material.

  • Water vapor transmission was tested in water bath controlled by $20^{\cire}C$, 90%RH for T800/AD6005 based composite motor case which made by filament winding method. We detected internal relative humidity of composite motor case by inserting the humidity detector through the head of motor case for the study of humidity transmission through the wall of composite motor case. We found out that this composite material appears the water vapor flux of 2.88${\times}$$10^{-9}$g/$\textrm{m}^2$sec and diffusivity of 7.98${\times}$$10^{-7}$$\textrm{mm}^2$/sec at $20^{\cire}C$, 90%RH water vapor condition.

  • Optimum conditions for UV-radiated photopolymerization of unsaturated polyester that could be used as protecting layer of large diameter pipe were investigated in this paper. UV photopolymerization method was selected to solve the problems, arising when thermal polymerization by organic peroxide was used, such as the instability of peroxide initiator, the evolution of volatile organic compound, and thermal deformation of product. Two of the photo-initiators (Irgacure 819 and Darocure 1173) well known for its penetrating ability deep into the polymer layer were selected, and the optimum conditions for photopolymerization (1.5 phr initiator content, 1:1.2 initiator ratio, Ga lamp for UV source) were found from the thermal and mechanical test results of the resultant UP polymers. In addition, composite materials containing UP polymer and glass fiber were tested for hardness, impact strength, and flexural strength to find that the impact strength of composite significantly improved.

  • In this paper, the low velocity impact characteristics of filament winding CFRP pressure vessel was investigated using numerical and experimental methods. The cylinder part of CFRP vessel was impacted using triangular shape impactor which simulated the sharp edge of dropping tools and impact response behavior of CFRP was reviewed. The mechanical behavior, such as deformation and stress distribution, were also predicted by explicit finite element method and the validity of the model was investigated. For the quantitative evaluation of the residual strength of the pressure vessel after impact, a series of the ring specimens was cut from the impacted vessel and its burst pressure was measured by hydraulic pressure hoop tension test. As the results, the relationship between the residual strength degradation and the impact energy was successively obtained and a useful methodology to evaluate quantitatively the impact damage tolerance of CFRP pressure vessel was established.

  • In-situ structural health monitoring of filament wound pressure tanks were conducted during water-pressurizing test using embedded fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. We need to monitor inner strains during working in order to verify the health condition of pressure tanks more accurately because finite element analyses on filament wound pressure tanks usually show large differences between inner and outer strains. Fiber optic sensors, especially FBG sensors can be easily embedded into the composite structures contrary to conventional electric strain gages (ESGs). In addition, many FBG sensors can be multiplexed in single optical fiber using wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) techniques. We fabricated a standard testing and evaluation bottle (STEB) with embedded FBG sensors and performed a water-pressurizing test. In order to increase the survivability of embedded FBG sensors, we suggested a revised fabrication process for embedding FBG sensors into a filament wound pressure tank, which includes a new protecting technique of sensor heads, the grating parts. From the experimental results, it was demonstrated that FBG sensors can be successfully adapted to filament wound pressure tanks for their structural health monitoring by embedding.
