  • In this paper, a new approach for the Synchronous Reluctance Motor control which ensures producing Maximum Torque per Ampere(MTPA) over the entire field weakening region is presented. In addition, This paper presents a speed sensorless control scheme of SynRM using artificial neural network. Also, by adjusting the base speed for the field weakening operation according to the flux level, the current and voltage limit, the smooth and precise transition into the field weakening operation can be achieved. The proposed scheme is verified validity through simulation.

  • The selection of flux level in the maximum torque control of stator flux-oriented induction motor drives in the field weakening region is dependent on stator resistance and inductances. This paper presents parameter detuning effects of stator flux-oriented control drives in the field weakening region. The detuning effects of stator resistance and rotor leakage inductance are analyzed. The decrease of torque and the flux control lost by the detuning of inductance are shown in the simulation results.

  • The characteristics of permanent magnet synchronous motor are defined by airgap flux and circuit parameters. Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) has a nonlinear characteristics due to structural speciality of rotor, so it is difficult to analyze circuit parameters and field-weakening characteristics of IPMSM. This paper presents the calculation of circuit parameters by using Finite Element Method(FEM) taken into consideration of nonlinear characteristics. Using the circuit parameters by FEM, IPMSM is analyzed to field-weakening characteristics and is compared with the Equivalent Magnetic Circuit(EMC) in which lumped parameter is consideration.

  • This paper describes current controlled PWM technique of PM synchronous motors for a wide variety of speed control applications. They are however limited in their ability to operate in the power limited regime where the available torque is reduced as the speed is increased above its base value. This paper reviews the operation of the PMSM drives when they are constrained to be within the permissible envelope of maximum inverter voltage and current to produce the rated power and to provide this with the highest attainable rotor speed. The optimal field-weakening control algorithm is the use of phase current and d-axis current feedback to reduce of error between the d-axis current command and real current and to improve the torque characteristics. The improved torque characteristics of speed control strategy with optimal field weakening control algorithm is analyzed and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation and experimental results. • In this paper, a vector control of the IPMSM drives for the next generation domestic high speed railway system is presented. The applied control method uses one pulse mode field weakening control in constant power region, and maximum torque control per ampere control in constant torque region considering current and voltage limits. An overmodulation control interval is inserted to improve the transient characteristics during transition period of the control modes. Simulation programs based on Matlab/Simulink are developed. Finally the designed system is verified by simulation and their characteristics are analyzed by the simulation results.

  • The Permanent Magnet (PM) machine used at speed control using field-weakening control method. But the field-weakening current, which reduces the field flux for high speeds, causes significant copper and core losses. Therefore, this paper deals with the PM performance evaluations in a pole changing memory motor (PCMM). The PCMM can change the number of magnetic poles and produce two types of torque. When the motor operates with eight poles, it produces a magnetic torque at low rotational speeds. When the motor changes to four poles, it produces both magnetic torque and reluctance torque at high speeds. The paper explain the principle and basic characteristics of the motor by using a finite element method magnetic-field analysis, which consists of a PM magnetized by a pulse d-axis current of the armature winding. The results of our experiment show that the proposed motor reduces core loss by 10% and 55% under no-load and load conditions, and doubles the speed range of the motor.

  • For electrical vehicles, switched reluctance drives present a promising alternative-compared to asynchronous and synchronous (permanent magnet) concepts. For these applications, a very wide field weakening range is a key issue. Other requirements include high torque output from a small machine and low current ripple at the DC-side without the use of bulky filters - when powered from fuel cells or advanced Lithium-Ion-batteries. A new converter and control strategy according to these requirements is presented and compared to existing designs. The comparison is done for a drive system with a continuous power rating of 30 to 40 kW.

  • This paper investigates the field weakening operation of a five-phase permanent magnet motor. The proposed motor has concentrated windings such that the produced back-EMF is almost trapezoidal and is supplied with the combined sinusoidal plus third harmonic of currents to produce trapezoidal current. Therefore this motor, while generating the same average torque as an equivalent permanent magnet brushless dc motor, overcomes its disadvantages. It is shown that torque producing and flux producing components of current for this motor can be decoupled by using multiple reference frame transformation. Therefore, Vector control is easily applicable to the motor. This motor has benefits such as high torque density of a BLDC motor below the rated speed and controllability of PMSM above the rated speed and during the field weakening region and simulation and experimental results are provided to prove the validity of the superior performance of this drive.

  • In this paper, we present the result of an analytical investigation concerning the demolition range for the pre-weakening of load-bearing wall in explosive demolition. Pre-weakening of load-bearing wall is usually conducted based on field experience because reliable specifications or guidelines for the design of pre-weakening have not yet been established in Korea. This study is one of the efforts to develop such a reliable specification or guideline for the pre-weakening process. Hence, the focus of the study is on the estimation of pre-weakening range of load-bearing wall. For the purpose, a finite element analysis (FE analysis) was conducted, and a pre-weakening range of load-bearing wall was suggested based on the analysis result.

  • The back e.m.f. of PMSM is increased as the speed is increased and it saturates the current regulator because it counteracts the available output voltage of the inverter. In the PM motor, however, the required armature terminal voltage can be reduced within the maximum output voltage of the inverter by field weakening control, in which the air gap flux is weakened by the d-axis armature current. In this paper, the field weakening control of the surface PMSM fed by a hysteresis current control led PWM inverter based on the microprocessor is presented. To show the validity of the proposed control method, the simulation and experimental results are provided.
