  • Longshore current is main transportation mean causing movement of bed load and suspended particle in coastal waters, and effective measurement method and suitable equipment for shallow water coastal environment where is frequently exposed to atmosphere. Measurement equipment for longshore drift was designed and miniature model was applied to Gyeongpo beach in May and June, 2014. The equipment consists of three main elements, spheroid outer casing, spheroid inner casing, observation module equipped with GPS. Gyroscope principle was applied to observation module, and GPS receiver always can be directed upwards. Miniature models were installed along Gyeonpo beach, and it was well to track the flow of longshore current. This research described the design and function of the equipment and results of field experiments.

  • The tidal pi lot plant is being built in the Uldolmok waterway using Its strong tidal current with maximum current of about 12knots, which is revealed from the first direct observation using ADCP, on February, 2002. a serious of field observations (for example, ADCP observation was tarried out both at February 2002 and September, 2003), along with numerical modeling, have been carried out over the last several years, in order to understand the tidal dynamics and to examine the related variables according to the tidal current power plant (TCPP) operation.

  • A laboratory observation and a greenhouse pot experiment were carried out to know the correlationship between the attraction and the susceptibility of rice varieties to Aphelenchoides besseyi. Degrees of attraction of rice seedling extract to A. besseyi and the multiplication rates of the nematode varied greatly according to the rice varieties used. And there was strong correlation between the two variables; i.e., the more the seedling extract of a variety attracted by the nematode in agar observation, the more the variety was susceptible in greenhouse pot experiment.

  • Recently, one of the areas where research is being actively conducted is the Internet of Things (IoT). The field of using the Internet of Things system is increasing, coupled with a remarkable increase of the use of the camera. However, general cameras used in the Internet of Things have limited viewing angles as compared to those available to the human eye. Also, cameras restrict observation of objects and the performance of observation. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a panoramic image stitching method using feature extraction and matching based on an embedded system. After extracting the feature of the image, the speed of image stitching is improved by reducing the amount of computation using the necessary information so that it can be used in the embedded system. Experimental results show that it is possible to improve the speed of feature matching and panoramic image stitching while generating a smooth image.

  • Weathering is defined as a process by which surface rock, once formed in the deep ground, is broken down and altered to keep the equilibrium with the ambient environment. In this study granitic rock samples of different weathering grades were collected in the field and the microscopic observation, X-ray diffraction analysis, electron microscopic observation, chemical analysis, and rock property tests were carried out. Formation of secondary minerals, especially clay minerals, by weathering was identified and the mechanism for the change of engineering properties such as rock strength degradation was analyzed. • COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) is a geostationary satellite and has been developing by KARI for communication, ocean observation and meteorological observation. Conventional thermal control design, using MLI (Multi Layer Insulation), OSR (Optical Solar Reflector), heater and heat pipe, is utilized. Ka-band components are installed on South wall, while other equipment for sensors are installed on the opposite side, North wall. High dissipating communication units are located on external (surface) heat pipe and are covered by internal insulation blankets to decouple them from the rest of the satellite. External satellite walls are covered by MLI or OSR for insulation from space and for rejection internal heat to space. The ocean and meteorological sensors are installed on optical benches on the top floor to decouple thermally from the satellite. Single solar array wing is adopted in order to secure clear field of view of radiant cooler of IR meteorological sensor. This paper presents principles of thermal control design for the COMS.

  • The ESEM could be used in investigating the fibrous networks developed during handsheet-forming processes with the exception of the stages relating to the actual dispersion of the fibers and the drying of formed sheets. Also the cross-sectional images of swollen fibers were generated with the ESEM but the information given by the images was rarely fresh compared to the CLSM images. The LTSEM was extremely useful in generating images of the microfibrillar structure of a wet fiber with great resolution. However, pretreatment required in the LTSEM chamber was somewhat tedious due to the time consumed in sublimation of ice and sputter coating. For observation of lamellar structure of a hydrated fiber, the LTSEM exhibited greatly detailed structure with high resolution. Finally ESEM and LTSEM should be used in a finite field such as observation of surface morphology in detail.

  • People with visual impairments are difficult to go to education facility by themselves, because of their limited visual ability, orientation, and usability field, so they prefer dormitories. Those dormitories playa role in living space, education, communication and culture function. Therefore those facilities planned more user centered design, since they are influenced by user actability and their values. User centered designs that match between the user and space are understood as well as their characteristics and behavior. Especially for understanding their activity, observation is conducted about their behavior in dormitories. Thus the purpose of this study is suggested to be a basic source that planning about residential facility for people with visual impairments through interview and observation investigation by analysis that they resident in space motion and performance.

  • Hardness test is performed for determination of the other properties, such as strength, wear resistance and deformation resistance, as well as hardness itself. And it is performed for prediction of residual lifetime by analysis of hardness reduction or hardness ratio. However, hardness test has limitation that observation of residual indent is needed for determination of hardness value, and that is the reason for not to be widely used in industrial field. Therefore, in this study, we performed researches to obtain Brinell hardness value from quantitative numerical formula by analysing relationship between indentation depths from indentation load-depth curve and mechanical properties such as work hardening exponent, yield strength and elastic modulus.

  • This study is presented to estimate groundwater recharge in Sukhuma District of Southern Laos. The groundwater recharge is estimated by using the water table fluctuation method from observation groundwater levels at eleven domestic wells and five paired observation wells (shallow and deep). The results show that a value of specific yield for the shallow fractured sandstone aquifer in the Sukhuma District is quantified at approximately 0.03, Groundwater recharge for 2012-13 and 2015-16 is estimated at 5% (118 mm) and 4% (95 mm) of annual rainfall. respectively. The results of the current study provide useful basic information for future groundwater resource management planning in Sukhuma District. The methods applied in this study may be also useful for studying the groundwater recharge in regions with limited field data.
