  • In this paper, design of Wound Rotor Synchronous Motor(WRSM) for Integrated Starter and Generator(ISG) is performed based on Finite Element Analysis(FEA). WRSM can control not only magnitude and phase of armature current, but also field current. Thus, various control methods can be considered. Since driving characteristic of WRSM depends greatly on the control method, characteristic analysis accoding to possible driving current combination is reguired. Especially in high speed region, the control method that reduces unnecessary d-axis current by reducing field current is possible, which is similar to field weakening control. By the current combination reducing field and d-axis current, the design minimizing copper loss to increase efficiency on identical driving point is possible. In this paper, high efficient WRSM is designed applying the current combination which can minimize copper loss on each driving point.

  • So far a single-axis controlled repulsive type magnetic bearing system have been designed and fabricated in our laboratory employing the repulsive forces operating between the stator and rotor permanent magnet for levitation. The radial axis is uncontrolled passive one. The higher speed of operation is limited due to the vibration along the uncontrolled axis and the increase of control current due to eddy current interference. This paper will discuss a detailed modeling of the repulsive type magnetic bearing system for five axis control including the eddy current effect and the method of reduction of eddy current effect. Simulation results using Matlab will be presented.

  • Recently, the development of novel control methodology enables us to improve the performance of AC-machine drives by using pulse width modulation (PWM) technique. Usually, the dynamic characteristic of induction motor (IM) has been represented by the 5-th order nonlinear differential equation. This dynamics, however, can be reduced to 3-rd order dynamics by applying direct control of IM input current. This methodology concludes that it is much easier to control IM by means of the field-oriented methods employing the current controller. Therefore a precise current control is crucial to achieve a high control performance both in dynamic and steady state operations. This paper presents an adaptive fuzzy current controller with artificial neural network (ANN) for field-oriented controlled IM. This new control structure is able to adaptively minimize a current ripple while maintaining constant switching frequency. Especially the proposed controller employs neuro-computing philosophy as well as adaptive learning pattern recognizing principles with respect to variations of the system parameters. The proposed approach is applied to the IM drive system, and its performance is tested through various simulations. Simulation results show that the proposed system, compared among several known classical methods, has a superb performance.

  • A permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) differs from an ordinary synchronous motor in that the former has no field winding and the field flux can not be controlled by field current. A field-weakening control of PMSM utilizing the demagnetization due to d-axis armature reaction is equivalent to reducing the field current. In this paper, the armature resistance is considered for the optimum field-weakening control.

  • This paper describes current controlled PWM technique of PM synchronous motors for a wide variety of speed control applications. They are however limited in their ability to operate in the power limited regime where the available torque is reduced as the speed is increased above its base value. This paper reviews the operation of the PMSM drives when they are constrained to be within the permissible envelope of maximum inverter voltage and current to produce the rated power and to provide this with the highest attainable rotor speed. The optimal field-weakening control algorithm is the use of phase current and d-axis current feedback to reduce of error between the d-axis current command and real current and to improve the torque characteristics. The improved torque characteristics of speed control strategy with optimal field weakening control algorithm is analyzed and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation and experimental results. • Recently, owing to environmental problems and instability of rare earth resources market, non-rare earth electric motors are attracting attention. As a non-rare earth motor type, a wound rotor synchronous motor(WRSM) has high power density and wide driving range further it can reduce loss by field current control during field weakening control at high speed. However, since the d-axis flux of the WRSM is coupled with the rotor circuit, the fluctuation in the d-axis flux linkage affects the rotor circuit, which causes ripple of the field current and torque. In this paper, we propose the field current ripple compensation method by injecting the feedforward voltage. the proposed compensating method was demonstrated by simulation and experiments.

  • In a field-oriented vector-controlled permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) control system, the d-axis current control loop can offer a free degree of freedom which can be used to improve control performances. However, in the industry the desired d-axis current command is usually set as zero without using the free degree of freedom. This paper proposes a method to use the degree of freedom for control performance improvement. It is assumed that both the inner loop proportional-integral (PI) current controller and the q-axis outer loop PI speed controller are tuned by the well-known tuning rules. This paper gives an optimal d-axis reference current command generator such that some useful performance indexes are minimized and/or a tradeoff between conflicting performance criteria is made. This paper uses a differential evolution algorithm to autotune the parameter values of the optimal d-axis reference current command generator. This paper implements the proposed control system in real time on a Texas Instruments TMS320F28335 floating-point DSP. This paper also gives experimental results showing the practicality and feasibility of the proposed control system, along with simulation results.

  • Permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) is widely used in many applications such as an electric vehicle. compressor drives of air conditioner and machine tool spindle drives. PMSM drive system have become a popular choice in various application, due to their excellent power to weight ratio. This paper is proposed maximum torque control for field weakening operation of PMSM drive. At low speeds, the reluctance torque is used to maximize the output for a given current level. This is achieved maximum torque per ampere(MTPA) by selecting an optimal value of the direct stator current component. At high speeds, the system reaches a point at which the inverter will not be able to supply the desired voltage. In this case it is necessary to make use of an increased value the direct current component. The proposed control algorithm is applied to PMSM drive system, the operating characteristics controlled by maximum torque control are examined in detail by simulation.

  • This paper proposes a current control method in synchronous coordinate for vector control of PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor). In order to control the PMSM by MTPA(Maximum Torque per Ampere), it is necessary to generate the rotating magnetic field to be $90^{\circ}$ with the magnetic field of the rotor, and the current control is necessary. To apply the current control to PMSM, the phase of the current command is also changed in accordance with the change of the position of the motor rotor. In this paper, the control of PMSM is performed through simulation using DC current command in synchronous coordinate system.
