  • Numerical analysis of the three dimensional turbulent flow field in a complex valve trim is carried out to confirm the possibility whether this simulation tool can be used as a design tool or not. The simulation of the incompressible flow in a glove valve is performed by using the commercial code. CFD-ACEA utilizes the finite volume approach as a discretization scheme, and the pressure-velocity coupling is made from SIMPLEC algorithm in it. Four flow cases of the control valve are investigated, and the valve flow coefficient for each case is compared with the experimental data. Simulation results show a good agreement with the experiments, and it is observed that the cavitation model improves the simulation results.

  • In this report, as the active position measurement system, a new method for two-dimensional position measurement system using a concept of semi-open type signal field has proposed. The feature of this system is realizing a position measurement only by scanning the encoded laser beams from scanning points to a measurement field, and observed it. First, both system configuration and encoding method are considered concretely, and M-sequence signal is selected for encoding. Next system design is performed to realize the theoretical measurement accuracy, and applied to a position measurement experiments. Experimental results show that measurement precision is larger than theoretical values. Furthermore, method for improving the measurement ...

  • In this paper, hardware design and implementation of digital controller for the High Precision Digital Power Supply (HPDPS) based on Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is presented. Developed digital controller is composed of high resolution Digital Pulse Width Modulation (DPWM) and high resolution analog to digital converter circuit with anti-aliasing filter. And Digital Signal Processor (DSP) has the capability of a few micro-second calculation time for one feedback loop. 32-bit DSP and DPWM with 150[ps] step resolution is used to implement the HPDPS. Also 18-bit 2 mega sample per second ADC board is adopted for the developed digital controller. Also, hardware structure of the developed digital controller and experimental results of the first prototype board for HPDPS is described.

  • In this paper, mixed mode magneto-rheological (MR) damper, which is applicable for vibration control of a small scale multi-story structure, is devised. First, the schematic configurations of the shear, flow, and mixed mode MR dampers are described with design constraints and then the analytical models to predict the field-dependent damping forces are derived for each type. Second, an appropriate size of the mixed mode MR damper is manufactured and its field-dependent damping characteristics are evaluated in time domain. Finally, the performance of the manufactured MR damper which is semi-actively applied to a small scale building excited by earthquake load, is numerically evaluated.

  • Electrohydrodynamic (EHD) printing has gained significant interest after a direct writing with a resolution of a few tens nanometer was demonstrated using EHD. Basically, EHD use the electric field to generate droplet which is much smaller than nozzle diameter, so that high resolution printing is possible and the clogging problem can be alleviated as well. However, to adapt this technology to the real application, the fundamental studies are necessary to stabilize EHD jetting, to maximize jetting frequency, and to optimize the design of multi EHD nozzle, etc. In this study, by imaging EHD jetting using high speed camera and measuring the current, the effect of electric field intensity and back pressure on jetting frequency and jetting diameter were studied.

  • Recently, the application of the linear machine for industrial field is remarkable increased, especially for the gantry machine. machine tool system and CNC. In these application fields. high precise position control performance is essentially required in both the steady and transient state. And linear machine is necessary for high-precision processing and manipulation when relatively high forces are involved. This paper presents the new unified PID position control algorithm which have rare sensitivity to disturbance, which the gain adjusting process is simple. Also this paper investigates the use of the New Unified PID control to design for high stiffness. Through the experimental results, it is shown that the proposed algorithm has high dynamic characteristic for the linear machine application field nevertheless of its simple structure.

  • Laboratory experiment was performed for the TDR to measure the soil moisture, and the results, were compared with the design water content and the one measured by oven-try method. Sand and kaolinite were used . Varaiables for the experiment were water content (10-50%), void ration (0.7 -1.3), mixture rate of kaolinite (10-30%), and measurement methods (TDR and oven-dry). In all cases , TDR method showed very accurage and reliable results , and average error and error range were far lews than the oven-dry method which is widely used. Considerable error was noticed when water contnet was 50% where saturation was achieved for both methods. Therefore, TDR was thought to be applicable to the field moisture measurement if it is unsaturated. For field scale application of TDR, more research and verification of the accuracy with diverse soil conditions including physical ,chemical and mineral properties are recommended.

  • In agricultural research field experiments are usually conducted with the sam etreatments in the same experimental design over several locations for several years in order to draw widely adaptable results. For generalization of the results from the individual locations and the properties of the treatment responses may be evaluated by carrying out the combined analysis over agricultural climate zones or country level. A method of combined analysis of variance was presented and examined by applying to a set of data obtained from a series of rice variety adaptability trials conducted by Kyung Buk Provincial Office of Rural Developmention 1986.

  • The objective of this research is to suggest anoise prediction method for a centrifugal compressor. It is focused on the Blade Passing Frequency component which is regarded as the main part of the rotating impeller noise. Navier-Stokes solver is used to simulate the flow-field of the centrifugal compressor, and the time-dependent pressure data are calculated to perform the near-field noise prediction by using Ffowcs Williams - Hawkings formulation. Indirect Boundary Element Method is applied to consider the noise propagation effect. Pressure fluctuations of the inlet and the outlet in the centrifugal compressor impeller are presented and the sound pressure level prediction results are compared with the experimental data.

  • As the point sampling technology evolves rapidly, there has been increasing need in generating tool path from dense point set without creating intermediate models such as triangular meshes or surfaces. In this paper, we present a new tool path generation method from point set using Euclidean distance fields based on Algebraic Point Set Surfaces (APSS). Once an Euclidean distance field from the target shape is obtained, it is fairly easy to generate tool paths. In order to compute the distance from a point in the 3D space to the point set, we locally fit an algebraic sphere using moving least square method (MLS) for accurate and simple calculation. This process is repeated until it converges. The main advantages of our approach are : (1) tool paths are computed directly from point set without making triangular mesh or surfaces and their offsets, and (2) we do not have to worry about no local interference at concave region compared to the other methods using triangular mesh or surface model. Experimental results show that our approach can generate accurate enough tool paths from a point set in a robust manner and efficiently.
