  • Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) have attracted the attention of scientists and engineers involved in a wide area of research, microscopy, diagnostics and sensing. SPPs are waves that propagate along the surface of a conductor, usually metals. These are essentially light waves that are trapped on the surface because of their interaction with the free electrons of conductor. In this interaction, the free electrons respond collectively by oscillating in resonance with the light wave. The resonant interaction between the surface charge oscillation and the electromagnetic field of the light constitutes the SPPs and gives rise to its unique properties. In this papers, we studied theoretical and experimental extraordinary transmittance (T) and reflectance (R) of 2 dimensional metal hole array (2D-MHA) on GaAs in consideration of the diffraction orders. The 2d-MHAs was fabricated using ultra-violet photolithography, electron-beam evaporation and standard lift-off process with pitches ranging from 1.8 to $3.2{\mu}m$ and diameter of half of pitch, and was deposited 5-nm thick layer of titanium (Ti) as an adhesion layer and 50-nm thick layer of gold (Au) on the semiinsulating GaAs substrate. We employed both the commercial software (CST Microwave Studio: Computer Simulation Technology GmbH, Darmstadt, Germany) based on a finite integration technique (FIT) and a rigorous coupled wave analysis (RCWA) to calculate transmittance and reflectance. The transmittance was measured at a normal incident, and the reflectance was measured at variable incident angle of range between $30^{\circ}{\sim}80^{\circ}$ with a Nicolet Fourier transmission infrared (FTIR) spectrometer with a KBr beam splitter and a MCT detector. For MHAs of pitch (P), the peaks ${\lambda}$ max in the normal incidence transmittance spectra can be indentified approximately from SP dispersion relation, that is frequency-dependent SP wave vector (ksp). Shown in Fig. 1 is the transmission of P=2.2 um sample at normal incidence. We attribute the observation to be a result of FTIR system may be able to collect the transmitted light with higher diffraction order than 0th order. This is confirmed by calculations: for the MHAs, diffraction efficiency in (0, 0) diffracted orders is lower than in the (${\pm}x$, ${\pm}y$) diffracted orders. To further investigate the result, we calculated the angular dependent transmission of P=2.2 um sample (Fig. 2). The incident angle varies from 30o to 70o with a 10o increment. We also found the splitting character on reflectance measurement. The splitting effect is considered a results of SPPs assisted diffraction process by oblique incidence.

  • Since the relocation project of equipment in 2011, the overall circumstances of KMA's agrometeorological observation have been significantly improved. Some concerns, however, emerged as a result of the evaluation of observational circumstances in terms of quality assurance after the field surveys on all stations. In order to improve the situation, we suggest: (1) establishment of clear management responsibilities, (2) enhancement of mutual cooperation system between relevant organizations, (3) detailed records of the changes in the observational circumstances, (4) standardization of equipment and sensors, (5) installation of unified information boards, (6) transfer of inappropriate facilities to an adjacent cropland and (7) setup of automated evaporation pan. In order to effectively utilize the high-quality data obtained through improvement of observational circumstances and an elaborate quality control, it is recommended to publish and disseminate regular reports on agrometeorological observations. To produce such a report on a trial basis, we have investigated different types of regular reports issued by domestic and foreign organizations, publication periods, geographical scope, main contents and amount. Based on our current situation, it would be beneficial to learn from the cases of Germany and Canada, which summarize mainly the distinctive agrometeorological phenomena occurred over the past years across the country.

  • In this study, we found the optimal manufacturing conditions of livestock manure sludge RDF with the oil-drying method. We performed oil evaporation, oil drying and pelletizing of the sludge to evaluate the value of the product (sludge RDF), and measured the performance of the product using calorimeter and PXRF equipment. Also, we conducted the calorie comparison test between sludge RDF manufactured in this study and wood RDF generally used in the field. Experimental results showed that 30g of the sludge treated by vegetable oil at $130^{\circ}C$ for 25 minutes were the optimal conditions to make the sludge RDF (considering the aspects of eco-friendly and mass production). The caloric value of the sludge RDF manufactured in this study was 5211kcal/kg which is higher than that of wood RDF used widely in the market. Finally, PXRF results showed sludge RDF contains no heavy metals with the exception of sulfur. Therefore, we recommend more study about the sulfur control process for future development of the industrial manufacturing process.

  • In this study, we synthesis polyimide with high gas selectivity using 2,2-bis(3,4-carboxylphenyl) hexafluoropropane, 2,4,6-Trimethyl-1,3-phenylenediamine (DAM) and 4,4-Methylenedianiline (p-MDA), and then the asymmetric membrane was fabricated by non-solvent phase separation method. To confirm the property change of the membrane using different solvent, we measured and compared the viscosity of the polymer solution, cloud point and non-solvent phase separation coefficient. The morphology and gas separation property of membrane prepared by phase separation method was confirmed using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microsope and the single gas permeation measurement apparatus. The single gas ($CH_4$, $N_2$, $O_2$, $CO_2$) permeation property and selectivity value of the membrane prepared with NMP was higher than the membrane prepared with DMAc. We confirmed that the gas selectivity of the membrane increased and the permeation property decreased with increasing of the solvent evaporation time.

  • Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were grown on a Si wafer by using thermal chemical vapor deposition (t-CVD). We investigated the effect of the catalyst deposition rate on the types of CNTs grown on the substrate. In general, smaller islands of catalyst occur by agglomeration of a catalyst layer upon annealing as the catalyst layer becomes thinner, which results in the growth of CNTs with smaller diameters. For the same thickness of catalyst, a slower deposition rate will cause a more uniformly thin catalyst layer, which will be agglomerated during annealing, producing smaller catalyst islands. Thus, we can expect that the smaller-diameter CNTs will grow on the catalyst deposited with a lower rate even for the same thickness of catalyst. The 0.5-nm-thick Fe served as a catalyst, underneath which Al was coated as a catalyst support as well as a diffusion barrier on the Si substrate. The catalyst layers were. coated by using thermal evaporation. The deposition rates of the Al and Fe layers varied to be 90, 180 sec/nm and 70, 140 sec/nm, respectively. We prepared the four different combinations of the deposition rates of the AI and Fe layers. CNTs were synthesized for 10 min by flowing 60 sccm of Ar and 60 sccm of $H_2$ as a carrier gas and 20 sccm of $C_2H_2$ as a feedstock at 95 torr and $810^{\circ}C$. The substrates were subject to annealing for 20 sec for every case to form small catalyst islands prior to CNT growth. As-grown CNTs were characterized by using field emission scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis NIR spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy. The fast deposition of both the Al and Fe layers gave rise to the growth of thin multiwalled CNTs with the height of ${\sim}680\;{\mu}m$ for 10 min while the slow deposition caused the growth of ${\sim}800\;{\mu}m$ high SWCNTs. Several radial breathing mode (RBM) peaks in the Raman spectra were observed at the Raman shifts of $113.3{\sim}281.3\;cm^{-1}$, implying the presence of SWCNTs (or double-walled CNTs) with the tube diameters 2.07~0.83 nm. The Raman spectra of the as-grown SWCNTs showed very low G/D peak intensity ratios, indicating their low defect concentrations.

  • Oxy-gasification or oxygen-blown gasification, enables a clean and efficient use of coal and opens a promising way to CO2 capture. The coal gasification process of a slurry feed type, entrained-flow coal gasifier was numerically predicted in this paper. The purposes of this study are to develop an evaluation technique for design and performance optimization of coal gasifiers using a numerical simulation technique, and to confirm the validity of the model. By dividing the complicated coal gasification process into several simplified stages such as slurry evaporation, coal devolatilization, mixture fraction model and two-phase reactions coupled with turbulent flow and two-phase heat transfer, a comprehensive numerical model was constructed to simulate the coal gasification process. The influence of turbulence on the gas properties was taken into account by the PDF (Probability Density Function) model. A numerical simulation with the coal gasification model is performed on the Conoco-Philips type gasifier for IGCC plant. Gas temperature distribution and product gas composition are also presented. Numerical computations were performed to assess the effect of variation in oxygen to coal ratio and steam to coal ratio on reactive flow field. The concentration of major products, CO and H2 were calculated with varying oxygen to coal ratio (0.2-1.5) and steam to coal ratio(0.3-0.7). To verify the validity of predictions, predicted values of CO and H2 concentrations at the exit of the gasifier were compared with previous work of the same geometry and operating points. Predictions showed that the CO and H2 concentration increased gradually to its maximum value with increasing oxygen-coal and hydrogen-coal ratio and decreased. When the oxygen-coal ratio was between 0.8 and 1.2, and the steam-coal ratio was between 0.4 and 0.5, high values of CO and H2 were obtained. This study also deals with the comparison of CFD (Computational Flow Dynamics) and STATNJAN results which consider the objective gasifier as chemical equilibrium to know the effect of flow on objective gasifier compared to equilibrium. This study makes objective gasifier divided into a few ranges to study the evolution of the gasification locally. By this method, we can find that there are characteristics in the each scope divided.

  • In this paper. the a-Si:H TFT using ferroelectric of $SrTiO_3$ as a gate insulator is fabricated on glass. High k gate dielectric is required for on-current, threshold voltage and breakdown characteristics of TFT Dielectric characteristics of ferroelectric are superior to $SiO_2$ and $Si_3N_4$. Ferroelectric increases on-current and decreases threshold voltage of TFT and also ran improve breakdown characteristics.$SrTiO_4$ thin film is deposited by e-beam evaporation. Deposited films are annealed for 1 hour in N2 ambient at $150^{\circ}C\~600^{\circ}C$. Dielectric constant of ferroelectric is about 60-100 and breakdown field is about IMV/cm. In this paper, the TFT using ferroelectric consisted of double layer gate insulator to minimize the leakage current. a-SiN:H, a-Si:H (n-type a-Si:H) are deposited onto $SrTiO_3$ film to make MFNS(Metal/ferroelectric/a-SiN:H/a-Si:H) by PECVD. In this paper, TFR using ferroelectric has channel length of$8~20{\mu}m$ and channel width of $80~200{\mu}m$. And it shows that drain current is $3.4{\mu}A$at 20 gate voltage, $I_{on}/I_{off}$ is a ratio of $10^5\~10^8,\;and\;V_{th}$ is$4\~5\;volts$, respectively. In the case of TFT without having ferroelectric, it indicates that the drain current is $1.5{\mu}A$ at 20gate voltage and $V_{th}$ is $5\~6$ volts. If properties of the ferroelectric thin film are improved, the performance of TFT using this ferroelectric thin film can be advanced.

  • A TCO-less palladium (Pd) catalytic layer on the glass substrate was assessed as the counter electrode (CE) in a dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) to confirm the stability of Pd with the $I^-/I_3{^-}$electrolyte on the DSSC performance. A 90nm-thick Pd film was deposited by a thermal evaporator. Finally, DSSC devices of $0.45cm^2$ with glass/FTO/blocking layer/$TiO_2$/dye/electrolyte(10 mM LiI + 1 mM $I_2$ + 0.1 M $LiClO_4$ in acetonitrile solution)/Pd/glass structure was prepared. We investigated the microstructure and photovoltaic property at 1 and 12 hours after the sample preparation. The optical microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), cyclic voltammetry measurement (C-V), and current voltage (I-V) were employed to measure the microstructure and photovoltaic property evolution. Microstructure analysis showed that the corrosion by reaction between the Pd layer and the electrolyte occurred as time went by, which led the decrease of the catalytic activity and the efficiency. I-V result revealed that the energy conversion efficiency after 1 and 12 hours was 0.34% and 0.15%, respectively. Our results implied that we might employ the other non-$I^-/I_3{^-}$electrolyte or the other catalytic metal layers to guarantee the long term stability of the DSSC devices.

  • Department of Nuclear Medicine in Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) had developed $^{18}F$-Flumazenil as Benzodiazepine receptor imaging agent for PET diagnosis of Epilepsy. But production Activity of $^{18}F$-Flumazenil is decreased owing to this method has difficult synthesis procedures and pretty long synthesis time. In this study, we can modify synthesizing method to have more simple procedure and less spend time and help to increase production Activity. Old method: Radioactivity was produced by cyclotron was captured by QMA cartridge that was activated. Captured radioactivity was eluted into the reaction vial by using kryptofix solution and delivered. After evaporation of eluent, the azeotrophic drying step repeated two times. tosylflumazenil in anhydrous Acetonitrile was added to a reaction vial while bubbling. The reaction mixture was evaporated until the mixture volume was 0.5 mL. Reaction vial washed with 20 % Acetonitrile and that solution went into the reaction vial. The reaction mixture was loaded to the HPLC loop by hand and purified $^{18}F$-Flumazenil by HPLC column. New method: We used $TBAHCO_3$ solution as a eluent. After the eluent was evaporated, tosylflumazenil in anhydrous acetonitrile was added to a reaction vial and the reaction mixture was bubbled for 15 minutes. It was evaporated until the mixture volume became 0.5 mL. It was loaded to the HPLC loop. In old method, $^{18}F$-Flumazenil was synthesized via 6 steps synthesis procedures in 105 minutes with 30~35% synthesizing yield (non-decay correction) and specific activity was about $0.5{\sim}2{\times}10^5$ Ci/mole. In new method, It had 3 steps synthesis procedures in 53 minutes with 40~45% synthesizing yield and specific activity was about $3{\sim}8{\times}10^5$ Ci/mole. This method leads to improve of minimizing synthesis time, increasing synthesis yield and specific activity. While we can load reaction mixture to the HPLC loop, we can expose high radiation field thanks to used by hand.

  • To evaluate characteristics in spray flame, laminar counterflow is investigated on the effects of equivalence ratio and fuel by a two-dimensional DNS (direct numerical simulation). For the gaseous phase, Eulerian mass, momentum, energy, and species conservation equations are solved. For the disperse phase, all individual droplets are calculated by the Lagrangian method without the parcel model. n-Decane ($C_{10}H_{22}$) and n-heptane ($C_7H_{16}$) is used as a liquid spray fuel, and a one-step global reaction is employed for the combustion reaction model. As equivalence ratio increases, the fuel ignites early and the high temperature region spreads wider. The peak value of temperature, however, tends to once increase and then decreases with increasing equivalence ratio. The decrease in the peak value of temperature for the higher equivalence ratio condition is caused by the cooling effect associated with droplet group combustion. Since the evaporation of n-heptane is early, the high temperature region spreads wider than ndecane, but the peak values of temperature for both n-heptane and n-decane is almost same.
