Submicron-sized conical-type tungsten(W) field-emitters based on carbon nanotubes(CNTs) are fabricated with the configuration of CNTs/catalyst(Ni)/buffer(Al/Ni/TiN)/W-tip. This study focuses on elucidating how the Al/Ni/TiN stacked buffer layer affects the structural properties of CNTs and the electron-emission characteristics of CNT-emitters. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM), and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) are used to monitor the nanostructures, surface morphologies, chemical bonds of all the catalysts and CNTs grown. The crystalline structure of CNTs is also characterized by Raman spectroscopy. Furthermore, the measurement of field-emission characteristics for the field-emitters fabricated shows that the emitter using the Al/Ni/TiN stacked buffer reveals the excellent performances.

Multi- wall carbon nanotubes(MWNTs) were synthesized by thermal chemical vapor deposition. The paste for screen printing was composed of MWNTs, organic vehicle and glass frit. Carton nanotube paste was screen-printed on ITO(indium tin oxide) deposited soda lim을 glass, and then heat treatment was performed. Before the surface treatment, turn on field of derive was 2.6 V/$\mu\textrm{m}$. After the surface treatment, the value was changed into 1.8 V/$\mu\textrm{m}$. The anode current of the derive with 2.83 V/$\mu\textrm{m}$(turn on field) was changed 4 $\mu\textrm{A}$ into 390 $\mu\textrm{A}$ at 1,700 V. Adsorption effect of MWNTs onto phosphor of anode plate was observed by the field emission measurement and resulted in bad effects on properties of devices lifetime and emission lighting.

Low field electron emission from novel carbon based cold cathodes is reported. The cathodes consisted of a layer of nanoseeded diamond and an over layer of nanocluster carbon films. The nanoseeded diamond was first coated on to thesubstrate. The nanocluster carbon films were then deposited on the nanocrystalline diamond coated substrates using the cathodic arc process at room temperature. The heterostructured microcathodes were observed to exhibit electron emission currents of 1 $\mu$A/cm$^2$ at fields as low as 1.5 to 2V/$\mu$m. The effect of the nanoseeded diamond size and concentration and the properties of different nanocluster carbon films on emission characteristics is presented.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are coated on green $ZnGa_2O_4:Mn^{2+}$ phosphor for filed emission display. The cathodoluminescent intensity of CNTs-phosphor is improved compared with uncoated phosphors. Also the effects of phosphors-coated CNTs on electrical and degradation characteristics are investigated to reveal the reason of the enhanced emission intensity.
We numerically investigate by the finite-difference time-domain method the effects of surface termination on directional emission exiting a photonic crystal waveguide. The directed power and far-field beam profile for the original proposal [E. Moreno et al., Phys. Rev. B 69, 121402 (2004)] and its enhancement [S. K. Morrison et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. 86, 081110 (2005)] are computed for different values of some important parameters. We find another surface termination condition with a positive surface displacement in the structure of the original proposal which has a negative surface displacement. Our surface termination is more effective than the original structure, and nearly as effective as the termination for the enhancement, for directional emission. Besides, our termination is simpler than that for the enhancement. We confirm the effectiveness of directional emission from our termination in its far-field beam profile, radiation intensity distribution, and additionally the wave-vector space representation by the Fourier analysis.

We report effects of inorganic binder on the emission properties of CNT paste for low cost and high low-cost and large area field emission devices or displays. Two types of photosensitive carbon nanotube (CNT) paste were formulated by using of glass frit and spin on glass (SOG) as an inorganic binder and investigated their emission properties according to inorganic binders and firing conditions.
The field emitters were fabricated by screen-printing of carbon nanotube paste, and their emission stabilities were evaluated. It was found that the emission stability measured in a sealed device is much higher than that measured in a vacuum chamber in spite of similar pressure. This was because oxygen gas was scarcely remained in the sealed device, while the gas is continuously supplied into the vacuum chamber during the stability measurement. It was found that the plasma treatment etched the protruded CNTs, resulting in the uniform height of CNT tips. As a result, the stability was increased remarkably. It was also found that the stability of CNT paste emitter was improved by electrical aging and that the optimum condition for the aging was varied with the size of emitter.
The MILD combustion and pollutant emission characteristics were investigated computationally. The temperature of supplying air-stream and mixing rate (${\Omega}$) of exhaust gas in the air-stream were adjusted to investigate the effects of those parameters on the MILD combustion in jet flow field. The emission indices for NO (EINO) and CO (EICO) were introduced to quantify the amount of those species emitted from the combustion. The high-temperature region disappeared gradually as the mixing rate increased for fixed air-stream temperature. The EINO increased as the air-stream temperature became higher for fixed mixing rate, and the EINO decreased dramatically with increasing the mixing rate for each air-stream temperature condition. The EICO also decreased with increasing the mixing rate and it was nearly independent of air-stream temperature except for near ${\Omega}$ = 0.7. It was found that the CO supplied in the air-stream can be destroyed in the MILD combustion over the certain mixing rate.
Fully sealed field emission display in size of 4.5 inch has been fabricated using single-wall carbon nanotubes-organic vehicle com-posite. The fabricated display were fully scalable at low temperature below 415$^{\circ}C$ and CNTs were vertically aligned using paste squeeze and surface rubbing techniques. The turn-on fields of 1V/${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and field emis-sion current of 1.5mA at 3V/${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ (J=90${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/$\textrm{cm}^2$)were observed. Brightness of 1800cd/$m^2$ at 3.7V/${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ was observed on the entire area of 4.5-inch panel from the green phosphor-ITO glass. The fluctuation of the current was found to be about 7% over a 4.5-inch cath-ode area. This reliable result enables us to produce large area full-color flat panel dis-play in the near future. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted much attention because of their unique elec-trical properties and their potential applica-tions [1, 2]. Large aspect ratio of CNTs together with high chemical stability. ther-mal conductivity, and high mechanical strength are advantageous for applications to the field emitter [3]. Several results have been reported on the field emissions from multi-walled nanotubes (MWNTs) and single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs) grown from arc discharge [4, 5]. De Heer et al. have reported the field emission from nan-otubes aligned by the suspension-filtering method. This approach is too difficult to be fully adopted in integration process. Recently, there have been efforts to make applications to field emission devices using nanotubes. Saito et al. demonstrated a car-bon nanotube-based lamp, which was oper-ated at high voltage (10KV) [8]. Aproto-type diode structure was tested by the size of 100mm $\times$ 10mm in vacuum chamber [9]. the difficulties arise from the arrangement of vertically aligned nanotubes after the growth. Recently vertically aligned carbon nanotubes have been synthesized using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition(CVD) [6, 7]. Yet, control of a large area synthesis is still not easily accessible with such approaches. Here we report integra-tion processes of fully sealed 4.5-inch CNT-field emission displays (FEDs). Low turn-on voltage with high brightness, and stabili-ty clearly demonstrate the potential applica-bility of carbon nanotubes to full color dis-plays in near future. For flat panel display in a large area, car-bon nanotubes-based field emitters were fabricated by using nanotubes-organic vehi-cles. The purified SWNTs, which were syn-thesized by dc arc discharge, were dispersed in iso propyl alcohol, and then mixed with on organic binder. The paste of well-dis-persed carbon nanotubes was squeezed onto the metal-patterned sodalime glass throuhg the metal mesh of 20${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in size and subse-quently heat-treated in order to remove the organic binder. The insulating spacers in thickness of 200${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ are inserted between the lower and upper glasses. The Y\ulcornerO\ulcornerS:Eu, ZnS:Cu, Al, and ZnS:Ag, Cl, phosphors are electrically deposited on the upper glass for red, green, and blue colors, respectively. The typical sizes of each phosphor are 2~3 micron. The assembled structure was sealed in an atmosphere of highly purified Ar gas by means of a glass frit. The display plate was evacuated down to the pressure level of 1$\times$10\ulcorner Torr. Three non-evaporable getters of Ti-Zr-V-Fe were activated during the final heat-exhausting procedure. Finally, the active area of 4.5-inch panel with fully sealed carbon nanotubes was pro-duced. Emission currents were character-ized by the DC-mode and pulse-modulating mode at the voltage up to 800 volts. The brightness of field emission was measured by the Luminance calorimeter (BM-7, Topcon).
Analysis and evaluation of uncertainty is adopting the advanced methodology among the methods for greenhouse gas emission assessment that was defined in GPS2000 (Good practice guideline 2000) and GPG-LULUCF (GPG Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry). In 2006 IPCC guideline, two approaches are suggested to explain the uncertainty for each section with a national net emission and a prediction value on uncertainty as follows; 1) Spread sheet calculation based on the error propagation algorithm that was simplified with some assumptions, and 2) Monte carlo simulation that can be utilized in general purposes. There are few researches on the agricultural field including greenhouse gas emission that is generated from livestock and cultivation lands due to lack of information for statistic data, emission coefficient, and complicated emission formula. The main objective of this study is to suggest an evaluation method for the uncertainty of greenhouse gas emission in agricultural field by means of intercomparison of the prediction value on uncertainties which were estimated by spread sheet calculation and monte carlo simulation. A statistic analysis for probability density function for uncertainty of emission rate was carried out by targeting livestock intestinal fermentation, excrements treatment, and direct/indirect emission from agricultural lands and rice cultivation. It was suggested to minimize uncertainty by means of extraction of emission coefficient according to each targeting section.
