  • In this study, the field applicability on reducing the heat of hydration of mass concrete by using the hydration heat difference method is analyzed with the following summary. As a result of applying the hydration heat difference method by using low heating combination, the temperature difference between the central part and the surface part of mass material was reduced, and as a result of visual observation, there was no showing of cracks by the hydration heat on the upper surface part. Therefore, the cracking index of the field to apply this method was shown to be approximately 1.57 with very little crack occurrence probability of less than 3%.

  • In this paper, the electromagnetic field characteristics of leaky caxial cable are anlyzed by using the finite difference-time domain(FDTD) technique. Finite difference equations of Maxwell's equations are definedin cylindrical coordinate systems. To simulate the open boundary problem like a free space, the Mur's Absorbing Boundary condition(Mur-ABC) is also used. After modeling the leaky coaxial cable with the three dimensional grid structure, the transient response of the field distribution and the current distribution, the field pattern, the coupling effect are depicted in the time domain.

  • An equivalent retention has been experimentally observed in thermal field-flow fractionation (ThFFF) for different polymer-solvent systems. It is shown that iso-retention between two sets of polymer-solvent systems can be obtained by adjusting the temperature difference (ΔT) according to the difference in the ratio of ordinary diffusion coefficient to thermal diffusion coefficient. This method uses a compensation of field strength (ΔT) in ThFFF at a fixed condition of cold wall temperature. It is applied for the calculation of molecular weight of polymers based on a calibration run of different standards obtained at an adjusted AT. The polymer standards used in this study are polystyrene (PS), polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), and polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF). Three carrier solvents, tetrahydrofuran (THF), methylethylketone (MEK) and ethylacetate (ETAc) were employed. Though the accuracy in the calculation of molecular weight is dependent on the difference in the slope of log λ vs. log M which is related to Mark-Houwink constant a, it shows reasonable agreement within about 6% of relative error in molecular weight calculation for the polymer-solvent systems having similar a value.

  • Near-field properties of light emanated from a subwavelength double slit of finite length in a thin metal film, which is essential for understanding fundamental physical mechanisms for near-field optical beam manipulations and various potential nanophotonic device applications, is investigated by using a three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method. Near-field intensity distribution along the propagation direction of light after passing through the slit has been obtained from the phase relation of transverse electric and magnetic fields and the wave impedance. It is found that the near field of emerged light from the both slits is evanescent, that is consistent with conventional surface plasmon localization near the metal surface. Due to the finite of the slit, the amplitude of this evanescent field does not monotonically approach to than of the infinite slit as the slit length increases, i.e. the near-field of the longer slit along the center line can be weaker than that of the shorter one.

  • In order to measure magnetic field difference, we have constructed a fluxgate magnetometer which is based on the measurement of apparent coreci ve field strength from the magnetizing current of two sensors. 'Co-based amorphous ribbon, which has square shape of ac hysteresis loop, was used as core material. Two sensors have 315 turns of the primary and the secondary windings respectively, and core size of 2 mm wide and 30 mm long. The primary windings are connected parallel to measure external magnetic field difference and the secondary windings serieally for the averaged magnetic induction of the cores. The constructed magnetometer could measure magnetic field difference with sensitivity of $1.6{\times}10^{6}V/T$ and resolution of 1 nT at 1 Hz bandwidth.

  • Induction motors have wide applicability in many fields, both in industrial sectors and households, for their advantages of a high efficiency and robust structure. The introduction of power-source-containing harmonics into the induction motor winding lowers its efficiency and increases its temperature, greatly affecting its operation characteristics. In this study, we performed an electromagnetic field analysis using the time-difference finite-element method with the purpose of analyzing the steady-state current characteristics of an induction motor. Additionally, we calculated the steady-state current with a method combining an electromagnetic field equation and a circuit equation. In the electromagnetic field analysis, the nonlinearity was taken into account using the Newton-Raphson method, and a backward time-difference method was employed for the time derivative term. Then, we compared the steady-state current of the induction motor obtained by calculation with the experimentally measured values, thus validating the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, we analyzed the impacts of the shape and material of the rotor conductor bar of the induction motor on the steady-state current of the main winding.

  • This paper presents the numerical simulation of advection-diffusion mechanism of BOD concentration which was used as an indicator of waste only in one flow-direction of waste stabilization ponds (1-dimension (1-D)). This model was represented in partial differential equation order 2. The purpose of this paper was to determine the simulation of the model 1-D of wastewater transport phenomena based advection-diffusion mechanism and did validate the model. Numerical methods which was used for the solution of this model is finite difference method with Forward Time Central Space scheme. The simulation results which was obtained would be compared with field observation data as a validation model. Collection of field data was carried out in the Wastewater Treatment Plant Sewon, Bantul, D.I. Yogyakarta. The results of numerical simulations were indicate that the advection-diffusion mechanism takes place continuously over time. Then validation of the model was state that there was a difference between the calculation results with the field data, with a correlation value of 0.998.

  • This paper compares and analyzes Fusarium wilt of radish by using an unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) with the NDVI-7 camera. The UAV have taken near-infrared images of the Radish field in Gangwon area, which is affected by Fusarium wilt. Based on those images, we analyzed NDVI(Normalized difference vegetation index) and compared conditions of radish by using the Blue value among Regular Vegetation Index in NDVI. First, the radish field is divided into three fields for radish, soil and vinyl. Each field has separate Blue values that are radish 0.4890, soil 0.2959, vinyl -0.0605 respectively. Second, radish condition levels are divided into four stages which are normal, early, middle, and late stage of Fusarium wilt. The average values of each stage are normal 0.5165(100%), early 0.4565(88%), middle 0.3444(66%), and late 0.1772(34%) respectively. This result shows that this NDVI value is validated by measuring conditions of Radish and soil.

  • The Matched Field Processing (MFP) is an estimation method for a source range and depth based on the prediction of sound propagation. However, as the frequency increases, the prediction inaccuracy of sound propagation increases, making it difficult to estimate the source position. Recently proposed, the Frequency-Difference Matched Field Processing (FD-MFP) is known to be robust even if there is a mismatch by applying a frequency-difference autoproduct extracted from the auto-correlation of a high frequency signal. In this paper, in order to evaluate the performance of the FD-MFP using a horizontal line array, simulations were conducted in the environment of the East Sea of Korea. In the area of Bottom Bounce (BB) and Convergence Zone (CZ) where detection of a sound source is possible at a long range, and the results of localization were analyzed. According to the the FD-MFP simulations of horizontal line array, the accuracy of localization is similar or degraded compared to the conventional MFP due to diffracted field and mismatch of sound speed. There was no clear result from the simulations conforming that the FD-MFP was more robust to mismatch than the conventional MFP.

  • In this paper, the impedance-tuned monopole microstrip antenna designed for PCS is analyzed using finite difference time domain(FDTD) method. The perfectly matched layer(PML) absorbing material condition proposed by Berenger is used for the truncation of finite difference time domain lattice. A Gaussian pulse is selected as an excitation signal and a resistive voltage source model is used to reduce the error caused by the reflection waves. The FDTD method is inherently a near field technique. Therefore, the near field to far field transformation is need to compute far field antenna parameters such as radiation patterns and gain. The near field to far field transformation can be done both in the time domain and the frequency domain. We use the frequency domain transformation to compute the far field radiation patterns at single frequency. All the numerical results obtained by the FDTD method are compared with simulation results using the HFSS software. Good agreements are obtained in all cases.
