Medical Image Compression using Adaptive Subband Threshold

  • Medical imaging techniques such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT) and Ultrasound (US) produce a large amount of digital medical images. Hence, compression of digital images becomes essential and is very much desired in medical applications to solve both storage and transmission problems. But at the same time, an efficient image compression scheme that reduces the size of medical images without sacrificing diagnostic information is required. This paper proposes a novel threshold-based medical image compression algorithm to reduce the size of the medical image without degradation in the diagnostic information. This algorithm discusses a novel type of thresholding to maximize Compression Ratio (CR) without sacrificing diagnostic information. The compression algorithm is designed to get image with high optimum compression efficiency and also with high fidelity, especially for Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) greater than or equal to 36 dB. This value of PSNR is chosen because it has been suggested by previous researchers that medical images, if have PSNR from 30 dB to 50 dB, will retain diagnostic information. The compression algorithm utilizes one-level wavelet decomposition with threshold-based coefficient selection.

  • This paper deals with the State-Dependent Riccati Equation (SDRE) Technique for the design of helicopter nonlinear waypoint guidance controller. To generate the flight guidance through multiple waypoints, we use the trigonometric spline. The controller design and its validation is based upon a level 2 simulation helicopter model and the designed SDRE controller is applied to the trajectory tracking problems. To validate the designed SDRE controller, the simulation environment of high fidelity helicopter model is developed using three independent computers. This paper focuses on the validation the present SDRE controller through the helicopter waypoint guidance simulation.

To generate the flight trajectory through multiple waypoints, we use the trigonometric spline. The controller design and its validation is based upon a level 2 simulation rotorcraft model and the designed SDRE controller is applied to the trajectory tracking problems. To verify the designed guidance law, the simulation environment of high fidelity rotorcraft model is developed using three independent PCs. This paper focuses on the validation of rotorcraft waypoint guidance law which is designed by using SDRE Controller.

웨이브렛 최저주파수 대역에서의 양자화를 이용한 강인한 영상 워터마킹 (Robust Image Watermarking using Quantization on the Lowest Wavelet Subband)

  • 대부분의 영상 워터마킹 기법은 공격에 대한 강인성과 비가시성을 동시에 만족시키기 위하여 중간 주파수 영역에 워터마크를 삽입하는데 반해, 본 논문에서는 웨이브렛 분해된 입력 영상에서 가장 낮은 주파수 성분들을 갖는 부대역의 계수들에 워터마크 정보를 삽입하는 새로운 워터마킹 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 새로운 워터마크 삽입 알고리즘은 삽입된 워터마크 비트의 강인성을 보다 높이도록 하기 위해 웨이브렛 최저주파수 대역에서 랜덤하게 선택된 계수들에 대해 양자화 방식을 이용하여 삽입이 이루러진다. 실험 결과에서 나타난 것처럼 제안한 새로운 삽입 방식이 비가시성과 강인성 측면에서 우수한 특성을 보이는 것을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, the Hardware-In-The-Loop Simulation(HILS) of missile systems are studied. The HILS is an effective performance evaluation technique that bridges the simulation fidelity gap between analytic all-digital simulations and actual flight tests of missile systems. The HILS may be required to perform system integration tests, performance evaluation at system or subsystem level. Major elements of this HILS facility will include the flight table, simulation computers, I/O computer and peripheral equipments. HILS of missile systems typically involve computer modeling of flight dynamics coupled with a hardware guidance and control(G/C) systems. This paper describes a real time performance evaluation technique of a G/C system, Development of a HILS for a Autopilot of SAM G/C will be used as an example.

Image Authentication and Restoration Using Digital Watermarking by Quantization of Integer Wavelet Transform Coefficients

  • An image authentication scheme for gray scale image through embedding a digital watermark by quantization of Integer Wavelet Transform (IWT) coefficients of the image is proposed in this paper. Proposed method is designed to detect modification of an image and to identify tampered location of the image. To embed the watermark mid-frequency band of a second level IWT was used. An approximation of the original image based on LL band was stored in LSB bits of the pixel data as a recovery mark for restoration of the image. Watermarked image has achieved a good PSNR of 40 dB compared to original cover image. Restored image quality was also very good with a PSNR of more than 35 dB compared to unmodified watermarked image even when 25% of the received image is cropped. Thus, the proposed method ensures a proper balance between the fidelity of the watermarked image and the quality of the restored image.

Estimation and Validation of Longitudinal Stability/Control Derivatives for the Flight Training Device of a Light Aircraft

  • The longitudinal flight parameters of a light airplane are estimated from flight test data by use of the output error method. The reliability of the flight test measurement is examined in engineering judgment, scatter and Cramer-Rao bound, which turns out to be satisfactory with minor defects. Estimated parameter values are validated by comparing the simulated responses with the ones from actual flight tests. The FTD(Flight Training Device) of a light airplane turns out to satisfy the qualification of FAA Level 5 FTD in longitudinal motion. All the necessary practices for generation of high-fidelity data in longitudinal motion of a light aircraft are successfully performed in this study.

Analytical Coexistence Benchmark for Assessing the Utmost Interference Tolerated by IEEE 802.20

  • Whether it is crosstalk, harmonics, or in-band operation of wireless technologies, interference between a reference system and a host of offenders is virtually unavoidable. In past contributions, a benchmark has been established and considered for coexistence analysis with a number of technologies including FWA, UMTS, and WiMAX. However, the previously presented model does not take into account the mobility factor of the reference node in addition to a number of interdependent requirements regarding the link direction, channel state, data rate and system factors; hence limiting its applicability for the MBWA (IEEE 802.20) standard. Thus, over diverse modes, in this correspondence we analytically derived the greatest aggregate interference level tolerated for high-fidelity transmission tailored specifically for the MBWA standard. Our results, in the form of benchmark indicators, should be of particular interest to peers analyzing and researching RF coexistence scenarios with this new protocol.

표준연동 아키텍처(HLA/RTI)기반 다해상도 연동 시뮬레이션 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of the Multi-resolution Interoperation Simulation using HLA/RTI)

  • 본 논문에서는 표준연동 아키텍처(HLA/RTI)기반 다해상도 연동이 가능한 시뮬레이션을 구성하여 공학급(QUEST), 교전급(SADM), 임무급(EADSIM)의 모델을 연동하였다. 공학급 모델은 전투실험 공학분석 시범체계에서 개발된 전투실험 통합개발환경(QUEST)을 이용하여 모델을 개발하였다. 교전급 모델은 SADM을 이용하여 개발하고 임무급 모델은 EADSIM을 이용하여 모델을 개발하였다. 여러 계층의 모델을 연동하기 위해 표준 연동 아키텍처 기반(HLA/RTI)으로 설계하고 구현하였다. 각기 다른 분산된 환경에서 수행되고 있는 시뮬레이션 프로그램들이 상호 연동을 위해 표준 연동 인터페이스 명세에 만족하는 연동 시뮬레이션을 설계하고 각 시뮬레이션 프로그램 간의 중계 역할을 담당하는 통합연동 게이트웨이를 개발하였다. 다해상도 연동 시뮬레이션을 통해 여러 계층 간의 모델을 연동하여 해양 무기체계 효과도 분석을 위한 모델충실도를 향상하고 운용자 필요에 따라 요구되는 전장 환경을 신속하게 구성할 수 있다. 또한 표준연동 아키텍처(HLA/RTI)를 기반으로 설계하게 된 다른 시뮬레이션 프로그램과도 쉽고 효율적으로 연동할 수 있다.

항공교통관제사를 위한 국내 비행장 관제시뮬레이터 구현 방향의 연구 (The Study on the Direction of Developing an Aerodrome Traffic Control Simulator for the Air Traffic Controller)

  • 본 논문에서는 비행장 관제 시뮬레이터 구현을 위해 필요한 사항을 살펴본다. 비행단계 중 비행장에서의 이착륙 단계는 항공 안전관리 측면에서 매우 중요시 다루어져야 한다. 그 이유는 전 세계 항공기 사고 및 준사고의 60%이상이이 단계에서 발생하는 것으로 조사되기 때문이다. 본 논문에서 항공교통관제 시뮬레이터의 평가 기준인 실습 유형, 장비 형태, 그리고 현실성의 충실도를 통하여 국내 항공교통관제 시뮬레이터의 구현 단계를 평가하고, 현업에 종사하는 항공교통관제사의 설문을 통해 현재 운용 중인 시뮬레이터의 문제점을 검토하여 그 해결방안을 살펴보았다. 또한 이를 바탕으로 개선된 HI-FI 항공교통관제 시뮬레이터의 구현 방향을 제시하고자 하였다.
