  • The results obtained are summarized as follows; (1) Boehmite produced in the high temperature and acid region showed a nano fibrous shape with several nm in diameter and several hundreds nm in length having high specific surface areas with a maximum value of $409m^2/g$. (2) In order to obtain nano fibrous boehmite with high surface areas from nano metal powder, the hydrolysis reaction should be done at a high temperature over $50^{\circ}C$, high acidity under pH 6, and terminated before a transition to the bayerite phase.

  • Histochemical observations on the effect of gold alloys crown margin in the periodontal membrane were caried out by use of rabbits. The animal were setted with gold alloys crown on the incisor teeth. The cervical margins were given extence into gingival sockets. The animals were sacrificed at the 30 days experimented period. Specimens of tissue were obtained from the mandibular incisor teeth with jaw. All tissues were fixed immediately in 10% neutral formalin solution. Different histochemical staining methods for the determination of fibrous components were the Mallory-Heidenhain Bielschowsky-Gomori, Gomori's aldehyde fuchsin. Periodic acid-Schiff reaction and Hematoxylin eosin stanin method. The results were as follows. The periodontal membrane is composed primarily of collagenous fibers and fibrous component run functional arrangement but in lower gold content groups, horizontal fiber groups were irregularly run. Elastic fibers were obligue run in experimental groups. There were no significant differences in reticularfibers in distribution.

  • Fibrous dysplasia of the temporal bone is a extremely rare condition in otological field with a total of 11 cases in the English literature so far. Authors experienced a case in 18 year old boy with complete obliteration of the external auditory canal and long standing keratosis obturance. The purpose of this paper is to discuss principles and methods of canalplasty and meatoplasty with literature review and presentation of authors case.

  • The fibromatoses are a broad group of fibrous proliferations. They have a biologic behavior and histopathologic pattern that is intermediate between those of benign fibrous lesions and fibrosarcoma. Because they are not common diseases, it is important to differentiate the fibromatoses from other similar diseases. In this report, we present a case of fibromatosis, and possible other diseases to be differentiated, with a review of literatures.

  • Carbon-ceramic composites were fabricated by using fly ash and PANOX fibers as reinforcement. Fly ash, because of its small size particles e.g. submicron to micron level can be effectively dispersed along with fibrous reinforcements. Phenolic resin was used as carbon precursor. Both dry as well as wet methods were used for forming composites. The resulting composites were characterized for their microstructure, thermal and mechanical properties. The microstructure and mechanical properties of composites are found to be dependent on type of the fly ash, fibrous reinforcements as well as processing parameters. The addition of fly ash improves hardness and the fibers, which get co-carbonized on heat treatment, increase the flexural strength of the carbon-ceramic composites. Composites with dual reinforcement exhibit about 30-40% higher strength as compared to the composites made with single reinforcement, either with fly ash as filler or with chopped fibers.

  • A 22-year-old male patient had developed a submasseteric abscess secondary to a mandibular osteomyelitis at the age of 7 years old. The initial presentation at that time seems to be acute suppurative parotitis. The computed tomographic scans taken before surgery demonstrated diffuse deformity, sclerotic change and osteolytic lesion in the mandible. There was no marrow space on both sides of mandibular ramus and thin-walled cortical bone was seen. So, from the results of the computed tomography, the surgery was performed intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) instead of performing the more commonly used bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO). In this report, we present a case of surgical correction of mandibular prognathism with fibrous-osseous lesion of mandible with using IVRO.

  • The purpose of this research was two-folds; first, to investigate the type of soil contaminated in the Hunsang excavated from the Milchang-gun burial of Mapo for the purpose of proposing the adequate washing method, second, to utilize the chemical degradation result obtained from the previous research to identify the natural dye source used in the Hunsang textile. The application of KS K0251 test showed that the soil was more oleophilic than hydrophilic thus indicating that wet cleaning was more adequate that dry cleaning for the removal of Hunsang soil. The GC-MS result of the Hunsang extraction showed dimethyl phthalate and 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol as its degradation product and these coincided with the degradation products from the alizarin standard data of previous research. The comparison of the two suggested that it is likely that Hunsang was dyed with madder which has alizarin as its major chromophore.

  • The articular discs from temporomandibular joints of thirty men and women whose ages ranged between 20 and 70 years hve been used in this study. The articular discs of the temporomandibular joints of human postmortem material was examined individually by means of microscopic techniques. The following changes were seen: 1. With advancing age some of fibroblast was developed into chondroid cells. Which later may differentiate into true chondrocytes. 2. In young individuals the elastic fibers found only I relatively small numbers. With advancing age elastic fibers was increased in number. 3. With advancing age the arrangement of fibrous tissue are irregular and loosely separated. 4. In the discs, as well as in the fibrous tissue covering the articular surfaces, this cellular changes seems to be dependent upon mechanical influences.

  • The presence of a small aortic annulus creates a difficult technical problem. Whenever possible, the smaller prosthesis of any type should be avoided. A case of aortic stenoinsufficiency with fibrous small aortic annulus [17 mm] in 26 years old adult woman patient was successful operated upon with aortic valve replacement [21 mm St. Jude Medical valve] and enlargement of aortic annulus with Gore-Tex patch. The postoperative course was uneventful.

  • Morpho-histogenesis of fruit sculpture and dehiscence in Thespesia populnea is described. The fruit wall is differentiated into epicarp, mesocarp and endocarp. The epicarp is stony, rind-like, 30 to 35 layers thick and derived from outer epidermis, sub-epidermis and ground parenchyma of the ovary wall. The spherical and/of tangentially elongated, thick walled cells of epicarp are interspersed with radial bands of sclereids. The mesocarp is a product of the inner zone of ground parenchyma. At maturity 20 to 25 layers of thin walled parenchyma of mesocarp appear sinuous of disorgnized. The innermost 1 to 3 layers of ground parenchyma and sub-epidermis and inner epidermis form 35 to 40 layers thick endocarp. Due to the differentiation of fibrous tissue in the projection of median plane of carpel wall and a complete ring of fibrous zone in the endocarp, the dry capsule of Thespesia populnea dehises partially in loculicidal fashion.
