  • UV curing technology becomes important in various sectors of applications due to the high efficiency, environmental protection and saving energy. Above all, It is necessary to consider the formulation of glass fiber sizes in some detail to achieve this study since they are governed by the products to be made and their performance in the composites made form them. The effect of glass fiber sizes against UV curing system was investigated by the method of changing size formulation. Nanosil 700 was used in order to increase curing efficiency. Yellow effect was not observed at the 1% fiber sizer content.

  • Melamine resin microcapsules with mean sizes from 500 to 600 m were prepared by using a micro-tubular reactor (microreactor) with toluene and sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) as emulsifiers. Conventional stirring method with telomeric surfactant in place of SDS produced microcapsules with mean sizes from 100 to 200 nm. Preparation by means of microreactor method with telomeric surfactant gave microcapsules with sizes below 200 nm in narrow particle size distribution. TG analysis revealed that the microcapsules contained 50 wt% of toluene.

  • In this paper, the technique to fabricate the optical fiber preforms by centrifuge was investigated, using silica particles of different sizes. The injection tube was designed to traverse axially so that uniform coaling of tiny silica particles onto the substrate tube can be certified. The deposition efficiencies and deposition rates of $SiO_2$ particles were measured to elucidate the effects of process variables such as rotation speed of rotor, aqueous flow rate, suspension concentration, binder concentration and overflow weir diameter. This study shows dearly the merit of this technique by enhancing abruptly the deposition rates and deposition efficiencies, comparing to the conventional processes for optical fiber preforms.

  • Glass fiber reinforced nylon has been used in many plastic industries. Mechanical properties of reinforced plastics depend upon types of glass fiber as well as loading of glass fiber. Tensile properties of glass fiber reinforced nylon66 have been studied for different glass fiber types and sizes. Types of glass fibers were circular and flat, and diameters were 7, 10, and 13 micrometers. Orientations of glass fibers in the matrix of nylon66 have been analyzed through X-ray CT. Tensile specimens were prepared by cutting out of square plates of $100{\times}100{\times}3mm$ with different angles such as 0, 45, and $90^{\circ}$ to the flow direction. As the loading of glass fiber increases to 45 wt% tensile strength increases up 2.5 times compare with neat nylon66. Anisotropic tensile strength has been observed and minimum tensile strength was measured in the specimen cut from perpendicular to the flow direction.

  • Swelling behaviors of Lyocell and Polynosic fibers are investigated by measuring fiber sizes in ferric sodium tartrate complex (FeTNa) and NaOH solution. They showed an anisotropic swelling behavior, i.e., a large expansion in a radius and small shrinking in a longitudinal direction. Birefringent structure was maintained in Lyocell fibers in the swollen state but not in Polynosic fibers for both solvent systems.

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to determine the fracture resistance and the mode of fracture of endodontically treated teeth restored with different fiber posts and all-ceramic crowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two glass fiber reinforced post systems in two different sizes and polyethylene fiber ribbon in two different thicknesses (n=10) were used. The specimens, restored with all-ceramic crowns, were subjected to a compressive load (in N) delivered at a 130-degree angle to the long axis until a fracture could be noted. The results were analyzed statistically with a One-Way ANOVA test (P<.05). RESULTS. Statistically significant differences were observed between the mean fracture resistance values of Postec, Snowlight, and Kerr Connect thin specimens (P<.0095). The Postec results (395.70 N) were found to be significantly higher than the others. No statistical difference was observed among the thick specimens (P<.2657). The mean fracture resistance values of the Snowlight thick samples were found to be higher than those of the Snowlight thin samples. The specimens were always fractured around the cemento-enamel junction at the palatinal side. No post fracture was observed for the thin Snowlight and Kerr Connect specimens or for the thick Postec and Kerr Connect specimens. Among the common failure types of the specimens, the worst was observed to be the root fracture failure. The highest post dislodgement failure result (80%) was obtained from the thin Kerr Connect specimen. CONCLUSION. In terms of optimizing fracture resistance, the fiber post size selection should be done according to the forces applied to the restored teeth.

  • Silicon carbide-carbon fiber composites have been prepared by partially Infiltrating porous carbon fiber composites with liquid silicon at a reaction temperature of $1670^{\circ}C$. Reaction between molten silicon and the fiber preform yielded silicon carbide-carbon fiber composites composed of aggregates of loosely bonded SiC crystallites of about 10$\mu\textrm{m}$ in size and preserved the appearance of a fiber. In addition, the SiC/C fiber composites had carbon fibers coated with a dense layer consisted of SiC particles of sizes smaller than 1$\mu\textrm{m}$. The physical and mechanical properties of SiC/C fiber composites were discussed in terms of infiltrated pore volume fraction of carbon preform occupied by liquid silicon at the beginning of reaction. Lower bending strength of the SiC/C fiber composites which had a heterogeneous structure in nature, was attributed to the disruption of geometric configuration of the original carbon fiber preform and the formation of the fibrous aggregates of the loosely bonded coarse SiC particles produced by solution-precipitation mechanism.

  • The optical near-field patterns, propagation loss and mode sizes of x-cut $Ti:LiNbO_3$ optical waveguide which was fabricated by Ti-diffusion varying with Ti strip thickness in wet oxygen atmosphere were discussed at optical wavelength 1550nm. As Ti thickness increased from $760{\AA}$, the insertion loss of waveguide was decreased. But at Ti thickness $1500{\AA}$, mode sizes are widely broadened. The Ti thickness of below $1100{\AA}$ and above $1500{\AA}$ showed negative effects to propagation loss and fiber coupling. The best Ti thickness for fabricating low propagation loss and good fiber coupling was inferred to be between $1100{\AA}-1500{\AA}$ in our conditions. And for Ti thickness $1150{\AA}$, its propagation loss, horizontal/vertical mode sizes were showed 1.61 dB/cm, $11.9/8.9{\mu}m$ for TM, 0.22 dB/cm, $12.0/9.1{\mu}m$ for TE respectively.

  • The use of optical fiber makes it possible to transfer a large amount of data, thereby enabling a high-speed image transmission with a high response speed and a large number of frames. The need for an optical fiber HDMI System has grown in importance due to the rapid development of displays with large sizes and high-resolution images. In this paper, we have studied the structural design and FEM analysis of a 4C fiber guide for hybrid interconnection implementation. According to the structural analysis of the fiber guide, we have confirmed the safety of the design and we will make additional design changes to minimize the optical loss and fabricate a fiber guide for photoelectric composite HDMI in the future.

  • In this study, we have developed a simulation method to predict the initial collection efficiency of a unipolar charged fiber in the electret filters. The particle sizes considered were in the submicron range and thus Brownian motion of particles was also taken into consideration along with electrostatic forces acting on the particles. The simulation results were compared with other investigators experimental data on single fiber efficiency as well as with the calculated results using the existing correlations on single fiber efficiency. It has been shown that simulation results are in good agreement both with the experimental data with those predicted by the correlations.
