An analytical study was conducted using the Galerkin technique to determine behaviour of thin fibrereinforced and laminated composite pipes under soil pressure. Geometric nonlinearity and material linearity have been assumed. It is assumed that vertical and lateral soil pressure are proportional to the depth and lateral displacement of the pipe respectively. It is also assumed that radial shear stress is negligible because the ratio of thickness to the radius of pipe is very small. The above results are verified by the finite element analysis.

As an approach to study a new natural antioxidant for edible fats and oils, antioxidative fractions from acorn powder were characterized. The oxidative stabilities of soybean, palm, beef tallow, and lard oil containing the acorn active fraction extracted with various organic solvents were studied by determining the peroxide value during the storage at $60^{\circ}C.$ And this effective antioxidative components were isolated and identified by thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. The proximate compositions of acorn powder were water 11.9~12.0%, protein 7.1~7.4%, starch 65.5~69.4%, fat 2.1~2.6%, fiber 2.1~3.6%, ash 2.4~2.6%, and total tannin 4.6~6.8%, respectively. The final yield of fraction extracted by sequential order of acetone : $H_2O$(1 : 1) and ethylacetate was 2.8~3.1%. Gallic acid, digallic acid and gallotannin were contained this final fraction. The main antioxidative activity was speculated due to the presence of gallic acid in acorn powder extract. The antioxidative activity was more effective in fat water emulsion than just fat system. Antioxidative activities measured by peroxide value were quite high in beef tallow and soybean emulsion, but low in lard and palm oil emulsion in the concentration of 200ppm acorn extract. Therefore, the addition of 200ppm acorn extract was suggested to expect effective antioxidation concentration in the reaction system.
Aging and severe environments are major causes of damage in reinforced concrete (RC) structures such as buildings and bridges. Deterioration such as concrete cracks, corrosion of steel, and deformation of structural members can significantly degrade the structural performance and safety. Therefore, effective and easy-to-use methods are desired for repairing and strengthening such concrete structures. Various methods for strengthening and rehabilitation of RC structures have been developed in the past several decades. Recently, FRP composite materials have emerged as a cost-effective alternative to the conventional materials for repairing, strengthening, and retrofitting deteriorating/deficient concrete structures, by externally bonding FRP laminates to concrete structural members. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) in predicting behavior of circular type concrete column retrofitted with FRP. To construct training and testing dataset, experiment results for the specimens which have different retrofit profile are used. Retrofit ratio, strength of existing concrete, thickness, number of layer, stiffness, ultimate strength of fiber and size of specimens are selected as input parameters to predict strength, strain, and stiffness of post-yielding modulus. These proposed ANFIS models show reliable increased accuracy in predicting constitutive properties of concrete retrofitted by FRP, compared to the constitutive models suggested by other researchers.
This research was conducted to investigate the effective methods for browning inhibition on yam (Dioscorea aimadeimo) during dehydration by physical and chemical pretreatments. Moisture, crude protein, crude fiber and N-free extract contents of yam were 81.17%, 1.43%, 0.29% and 15.81%, respectively. Yams were sliced to 0.5 cm thickness and placed to single and poly layer in plastic tray, and then changes of their weights were measured during air dehydration at $50^{\circ}C,\;65^{\circ}C,\;and\;80^{\circ}C$. The dehydration time reaching to optimum moisture level for the pulverization of the yam slices were 10, 6, 3 hours(single layered) and 12, 7, 5 hours(multi layered) at the respective temperature. To inhibit browning at $80^{\circ}C$ air dehydration, water and steam blanching, microwave treatment effects were investigated on yam slices for 30 sec. and 60 sec. Steam blanching for 30 sec. was comparatively effective to inhibit browning of yam slices. Yam slices were immersed in single and combined browning inhibitor solutions and evaluated for browing degree during dehydration by the values of Hunter L, a, b and ${\Delta}E$. The most effective pretreatment to inhibit browning of yam slices was immersion In the solution containing 500 ppm of citric acid and 1000 ppm of cysteine for 1 min.
As composite is the light weight material whose durability and mechanical property are more superior than the existing general material. By taking notice of the composite with light weight, this study was about to investigate the static fracture characteristic of the bonded CFRP structure jointed with adhesive. Also, CFRP double cantilever beam with the variable of laminate angle was designed and the static fracture analysis was carried out. The laminate angles of CFRP double cantilever beam designed for this study were $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ individually. As the study result, the specimen with the laminate angle of $45^{\circ}$ was shown to have the durability better than those with the layer angles of $30^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$. It was checked that the specimen with the laminate angle of $30^{\circ}$ had the weakest durability among all specimens. The damage data of the bonded CFRP structure by laminate angle could be secured through this study result. As the damage data of bonded interface obtained on the basis of this study result are utilized, the esthetic sense can be shown by being grafted onto the machine or structure at real life.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of resistant starch (RS) on the large bowel function and plasma lipids in rats with constipation induced by Loperamide. Animals were divided into six groups: normal control-5% cellulose, constipation-5% cellulose, constipation-5% pectin, constipation-5% RS-type 2 (RS2), constipation-8% RS2 and constipation-5% RS type 3 (RS3) groups, and fed experimental diets for five weeks. The results from RS groups were compared with those from other dietary fiber groups. The groups supplemented with RS3 or high level of RS2 showed significantly increased counts of bifidobacteria in the cecum than the other groups. The production of total short chain fatty acids in the cecal contents was significantly high in pectin, RS3 and high RS2 groups. The pH in the cecal contents of the RS supplemented groups was significantly decreased compared with the cellulose supplemented groups. The production of prostaglandin E2 in the colon mucus of the RS groups was higher than the normal group; however, it was significantly decreased compared to the cellulose or pectin supplemented constipated groups. The thickness of the mucus layer and the production of mucus from epithelial cells were significantly increased in RS3 group compared to the constipated cellulose group. Supplementation of resistant starch significantly elevated the ratio of HDL-cholesterol to total cholesterol and significantly lowered plasma atherogenic index compared with cellulose or pectin supplementation in constipated rats. The results of the present study demonstrated that resistant starch supplementation may help in improving the large bowel environment by stimulation of bifidobacterial proliferation, reduction of pH and inflammation factor and by increased production of mucus. It has also been found that an additional health benefit is improvement in lipid levels of serum.
In order to improve the quality of sweet potato silage by adding some additives. sweet potatos (80%) were ensiled with one (20%) of the followings ; wheat bran, layer waste, swine waste or cow waste. The chemical composition, pH and acid contents of silages were determined. In addition, the silage intakes by Korean native goats were measured to estimate the palatability. The results were summarized as follows. 1. The pH of silages were decreased from the criginal 6.95 to 4.00 for WBAS (wheat bran added silage), to 4.50 for LWAS (layer waste added silage), to 4.40 for SWAS (swine waste added silage) and to 4. 10 for CWAS (cow waste added silage) after 40 days ensiling. 2. The contents of total acid and latic acid were 3.50% and 3. 32% for WBAS, 9.55% and 9.23% for LWAS, 8.51% and 8.50% for SWAS and 0.93% and 0.90% for CWAS, respectively. Therefore, good results for acid content were abtained from WBAS, LWAS and SWAS. 3. The bacterial counts were $2.6{\times}10^7/g$ for WBAS, $2.8{\times}10^7/g$ for LWAS, $2.6{\times}10^7/g$ for SWAS and $1.9{\times}10^7/g$ for CWAS. The number of lactic acid bacteria were $4.0{\times}10^7/g$ for WBAS, $5.5{\times}10^7/g$ for LWAS, 4.6{\times}10^7/g$ for SWAS, and $4.2{\times}10^7/g$ for CWAS. 4. The content of crude protein was highest in LWAS, that of crude fat was highest in SWAS and that of crude fiber was highest in CWAS. The contents of crude protein and crude fat in the silages were slightly increased while the moisture contents decreased as the fermentation was progressed. 5. The silage intakes by Korean native goat were slightly lower for animal-wasie-added silages than wheat-bran-added silage. Among the animal-added silage, the intakes of LWAS and SWAS were slightly higher than CWAS.
To develop the health/functional food materials, we investigated the cultural condition of mycelial growth on the solid state fermentation using the brown rise, Acanthopanax sp. and Artemisia sp., and also evaluated inhibitory activity of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) of hot water extracts from cultured media of Pleurotus eryngii. As the amount of Acanthopanax nnd Artemisia In the cultural media increased, the mycelial growth rate decreased. Especially, addition of Aeantopanax showed marked effect than Artemisia. Moisture contents in three kinds of cultured media were in the range of $10.9{\sim}12.0%$. Crude protein fat and crude fiber content were the highest value in cultured brown rice medium, whereas the mineral contents (Ca, K and P) were higher in the Acanthopanax supplemented (5%) medium than the other media, The extraction yield of the Artemisia supplemented (5%) medium was the highest value of 4.80%, and the pH of hot water extract from cultured brown rice medium showed the lowest value of 6.1. Lightness (L) values in three kinds of extracts from cultured media were in the range of $85.8{\sim}87.1$. Redness (a) value was the highest In the brown rice and Acanthopanax supplemented media, however cultured Artemisia supplemented medium showed the highest value in yellowness (b). In comparison of sugar components analyzed by the thin layer chromatography with three kinds of samples, two spots were detected to be glucose and maltose, respectively. The ACE inhibitory activity of hot water extract from the cultured Acanthopanax supplemented medium showed the highest value at the concentration of $0.2{\sim}1.0\;mg/ml$. These results suggest that the Pleurotus eryngii grew in natural media using brown rice and Acanthopanax can be supplemented to the brown rice medium to enhance its ACE inhibitory activity as health/functional food materials.
By taking wallpaper specimens from Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, and Chilgung Palace preserved from the late Joseon Dynasty to the present, we planned in this study to determine the types and characteristics of the paper used as wallpaper in the Joseon royal family. First, we confirmed the features of paper hanging in the palaces with old literature on the wallpaper used by the royal family based on archival research. Second, we conducted a field survey targeting the royal palaces whose construction period was relatively clear, and analyzed the first layer of wallpaper directly attached to the wall structure after sampling the specimens. Therefore, we confirmed that the main raw material was hanji, which was used as a wallpaper by the royal family, and grasped the types of substances(dyes and pigments) used to produce a blue color in spaces that must have formality by analyzing the blue-colored paper. Based on the results confirmed through the analysis, we checked documents and the existing wallpaper by comparing the old literature related to wallpaper records of the Joseon Dynasty palaces. We also built a database for the restoration of cultural properties when conserving the wallpaper in the royal palaces. We examined the changes in wallpaper types by century and the content according to the place of use by extracting wallpaper-related contents recorded in 36 cases of Uigwe from the 17th to 20th centuries. As a result, it was found that the names used for document paper and wallpaper were not different, thus document paper and wallpaper were used without distinction during the Joseon Dynasty. And though there are differences in the types of wallpaper depending on the period, it was confirmed that the foundation of wallpaper continued until the late Joseon Dynasty, with Baekji(white hanji), Hubaekji(thick white paper), jeojuji(common hanji used to write documents), chojuji(hanji used as a draft for writing documents) and Gakjang(a wide and thick hanji used as a pad). As a result of fiber identification by the morphological characteristics of fibers and the normal color reaction(KS M ISO 9184-4: Graph "C" staining test) for the first layer of paper directly attached to the palace wall, the main materials of hanji used by the royal family were confirmed and the raw materials used to make hanii in buildings of palaces based on the construction period were determined. Also, as a result of analyzing the coloring materials of the blue decorative paper with an optical microscope, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopic analysis(UV-Vis), and X-ray diffraction analysis(XRD), we determined that the type of blue decorative paper dyes and pigments used in the palaces must have formality and identified that the raw materials used to produce the blue color were natural indigo, lazurite and cobalt blue.
The goal of periodontal therapy is the periodontal regeneration by the removal of microorganisms and their toxic products from the periodontally diseased root surface. To achieve periodontal regeneration, root conditioning as an adjunct to root planing has been done. There are low pH etchants such as citric acid, tetracycline-HCl, and EDTA solution which is a neutral chelating agent. The purpose of present study was to examine the effect of root conditioning by citric acid, tetracycline HCl, and EDTA. Total 35 root specimens(6${\times}$3${\times}$2mm) were prepared from the periodontally diseased teeth, scaled and root planed. The specimens were treated with normal saline for 1 minute, saturated citric acid(pH 1) for 3 minutes, 50mg/ml tetracycline-HCl(pH 2) for 5 minutes, 15% EDTA(pH 7) for 5 minutes using rubbing technique. The specimens were examined under scanning electron microscopy at 1000, and 3000 magnification. On the microphotographs taken at 1000 magnification, the numbers of opened and patent dentinal tubules per unit area(10,640${\mu}m^2$) were counted. And the diameters of opened dentinal tubules per unit are (10,640${\mu}m^2$) were measured. The differences of number and diameter among all groups were statistically analyzed by Kruskal Wallis Test. The results were as follows; 1. In the specimens applied with normal saline(control group), the root surface was finely cracked, and was covered by irregular smear layer. Neither exposed dentinal tubules nor any patent dentinal tubules could be seen. 2. In the specimens applied with saturated citric acid(experimental 1 group), the globular collagen fibers were exposed around the peritubular space, and many dentinal tubules were revealed. 3. In the specimens applied with tetracycline-HCl(experimental 2 group), the process-like collagen fibers were exposed around the peritubular space, and some dentinal tubules were revealed. 4. In the specimens applied with 15% EDTA(experimental 3 group), the root surface was covered by the collagenous fibrillar network, and many dentinal tubules were revealed. 5. The numbers of opened and patent dentinal tubules were significantly more in exp. 1 group and exp. 3 group than in exp. 2 group(P<0.05). But there was no significant difference between exp. 1 group and exp. 3 group. In control group, the number of opened and patent dentinal tubules could not be counted because any dentinal tubules couldn't be seen. 6 . The diameter of opened dentinal tubules was significantly smaller in exp. 1 group and exp. 3 group than in exp. 2 group(P<0.05). But there was no significant difference between exp. 1 group and exp. 3 group. In control group, the diameter of opened dentinal tubules could not be measured because any dentinal tubules couldn't be seen. The results demonstrate that root conditioning with citric acid, tetracycline- HCl, and EDTA is more effective in periodontal healing than only root planing, and 15% EDTA solution can replace low pH etching agents such as citric acid, tetracycline-HCl for root conditioning.
