This paper is concerned with a fracture strength study of composite adhesive lap joints. The tests were carried out on specimen joints manufactured hybrid stacked composites such as the polyester and bamboo natural fiber layer. The main objective of the work was to test the fracture strength using hybrid stacked composites with a polyester and bamboo natural fiber layer. Tensile and peel strength of hybrid stacked composites are tested before appling adhesive bonding. From results, Natural fiber reinforced composites have lower tensile strength than the original polyester. and The load directional orientation and small amount and low thickness of bamboo natural fiber layer have a good effect on the tensile and peel strength of natural fiber reinforced composites. The failure strength of these materials applied adhesive bonding is also affected by fiber orientation and thickness of bamboo natural fiber layer. There for, Fiber orientation of bamboo natural fiber layer have a great effect on the tensile-shear strength of natural fiber reinforced composites including adhesive bonded joints.
In order to study the effect of sawdustboard combined with plastic chips, 0.5mm($T_1$), 1mm($T_2$), 1.4mm($T_3$) thick nylon fiber. polypropylene rope fiber(RP), and 0.23mm thick moth-proof polypropylene net fiber(NP) were cut into 0.5, 1, 2cm long plastic chips. Thereafter, sawdustboard combined with plastic chips prepared as the above and plastic non-combined sawdustboard(control) were manufactured into 3 types of one-, two-, and three layer with 5 or 10% combination level. By the discussions and results at this study, the significant conclusions of mechanical and physical properties were summarized as follows: 1. The MORs were shown in the order of 3 layer> 2 layer> 1 layer among plastic non-combined boards, and $T_3$ < $T_2$ < $T_1$ < RP (NP(5%) < NP(l0%) among plastic combined boards. In 2cm long plastic chip in 1 layer board, the highest strength through all the composition was recognized. 1 layer board showing the lower strength with 0.5cm plastic chip rendered to the bending strength improvement by 2 or 3 layer board composition. On the other hand, 2 or 3 layer combined with 1, 2cm long polypropylene net fiber chips incurred MOR's conspicuous decrease requiring optimum plastic chip combined level and consideration to combined type. 2. MOE in plastic non-combined 3 layer board exhibited sandwich construction effect by higher resin content application to surface layer in the order of 3layer>1layer>2layer with the highest stiffness of the board combined with polypropylene chip, while nylon chip-combined board had little difference from plastic non-combined board. In relevant to length and layer effect, 3 layer board combined with the 0.5cm long polypropylene net fiber chip in 5% and 10% combined level presented 34-43% and 44-76% stiffness increase against plastic non-combined board(control), respectively. Moreover, in 1 layer board, 30% stiffness increase with 10% against 5% combined level in the 1 and 2cm long polypropylene net fiber chip was obtained. 3. Stress at proportional limit(Spl) showing the fiber relationship (r: 0.81-0.97) between MOR presented in the order of 1 layer<2 layer<3 layer in plastic non-combined board. Correspondingly, combined effect by layer and plastic chip length was similar to MOR's. 4. Differently from previous properties(MOR, MOE, Spl). work to maximum load(Wml) of 2 layer board approached to that of 3 layer board. Conforming the above phenomenon. 2 layer combined with 0.5cm long polypropylene net fiber chip kept the greater work than 1 layer. The polypropylene combined board superior to nylon -and plastic non - combined board seemed to have greater anti - failing capacity. 5. Internal bond strength(IB), in contrast to MOR's tendency. showed in the order of T1
Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membrane is widely used for water treatment. However, the weak mechanical strength of PVDF limits its application. To enhance its tensile strength, a double-layer composite hollow fiber membrane, with PVDF and polyetherimide as the external and inner layers, respectively, was successfully prepared through phase inversion technique. The effects of additive content, air gap distance, N,N-dimethyl-acetamide content in the inner core liquid, and the temperature of external coagulation bath on the membrane structure, permeation flux, rejection, tensile strength, and porosity were determined. Experimental results showed that the optimum preparation conditions for the double-layer composite hollow fiber membrane were as follows: PEG-400 and PEG-600, 5 wt%; air gap distance, 10 cm; inner core liquid and the external coagulation bath should be water; and temperature of the external coagulation bath, 40 C. A single layer PVDF hollow fiber membrane (without PEI layer) was also prepared under optimum conditions. The double-layer composite membrane remarkably improved the tensile strength compared with the single-layer PVDF hollow fiber membrane. The permeation flux, rejection, and porosity were also slightly enhanced. High-tensile strength hollow fiber PVDF ultrafiltration membrane can be fabricated using the proposed technique.
To understand the cause of the high light transmittance of the human eye, the optical effects of the collagen fibers of the stroma layer, which constitute the majority of the cornea, were analyzed. These collagen fibers, approximately 20 nm in diameter, have a regular arrangement. Accordingly, the optical properties of the collagen fibers and the fiber layer were analyzed by simulation. A standing wave was formed in the incident space by the overlapping incident light and the light reflected by the plate. In addition, it was confirmed that when the collagen fibers are arranged in a layer, the light transmittance periodically changes, depending on the number of fiber layers. The standing wave was formed in the incident space, and the light's intensity distribution was changed by the nanoscale collagen fibers in the section with the collagen layer, which affected the transmittance. To explain this phenomenon, the collagen fiber was defined as a second light source, and an attempt was made to describe the simulation results in terms of overlap of the incident light with the light emitted from the collagen fiber.
Reflection cracks can be occurred in the asphalt layer overlaid on portland cement concrete pavements, because this layer is sensitive to environmental conditions including temperature changes and displacements of the pavement. A result of trial applications using glass fiber grids is introduced in this paper. Glass fiber grids were used between the asphalt layer and the concrete base to reduce the reflection crack of the asphalt layer. No cracks were observed in the glass grid installed area about 2 years later from trial constructions.

This study investigates the effects of a carbon fiber layer formed on the surface of an etched aluminum current collector on the electrochemical properties of the activated carbon electrodes for an electric double layer capacitor. A particle size analyzer, field-emission SEM, and nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherm analyzer are employed to analyze the structure of the carbon fiber layer. The electric and electrochemical properties of the activated carbon electrodes using a carbon fiber layer are evaluated using an electrode resistance meter and a charge-discharge tester, respectively. To uniformly coat the surface with carbon fiber, we applied a planetary mill process, adjusted the particle size, and prepared the carbon paste by dispersing in a binder. Subsequently, the carbon paste was coated on the surface of the etched aluminum current collector to form the carbon under layer, after which an activated carbon slurry was coated to form the electrodes. Based on the results, the interface resistance of the EDLC cell made of the current collector with the carbon fiber layer was reduced compared to the cell using the pristine current collector. The interfacial resistance decreased from 0.0143 Ω·cm2 to a maximum of 0.0077 Ω·cm2. And degradation reactions of the activated carbon electrodes are suppressed in the 3.3 V floating test. We infer that it is because the improved electric network of the carbon fiber layer coated on the current collector surface enhanced the electron collection and interfacial diffusion while protecting the surface of the cathode etched aluminum; thereby suppressing the formation of Al-F compounds.
The present investigation on optical fiber mass manufacturing features the computational modeling and simulation on a double layer liquid coating process on glass fiber surface. The computational model employs a simplified geometry of typical fiber coating system which consists of primary and secondary coating dies along with secondary coating cup. The viscous dissipation in coating flow is incorporated into the double layer coating process simulations. Heavy temperature dependence of coating liquid viscosity is also considered in the model. The computational results found that the effects of viscous dissipation on both primary and secondary coating layer thicknesses are highly significant at higher drawing speed. Several important coating process parameters such as supply temperature and pressure of primary and secondary coating liquids are investigated and discussed in order to appreciate how those parameters affect the double layer coating layer thickness on fast moving glass fiber.
Microwave absorbing properties of ferrite-epoxy composite (absorbing layer) attached on the carbon fiber polymer composite (reflective substrate) are analyzed on the basis of wave propagation theory. A modified equation for wave-impedance-matching at the front surface of absorbing layer including the effect of electrical properties of the quasi-conducting substrate is proposed. Based on this analysis, the frequency and layer dimension that produce zero-reflection can be estimated from the intrinsic material properties of the obsorbing layer and the substrate. It is demonstrated that the microwave reflectivity of carbon fiber composite has a strong influence on the microwave absorbance of front magnetic layer.
This study was performed to evaluate the internal and external factors affecting external strength of the 3-layer polymer composite pipes made of polymer mortar and fiber-glass reinforced plastic. Twenty four sandwich type 3-layer polymer composite pipes were made of polymer mortar and fiber-glass reinforced plastic by centrifugal method. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects the of polymer mortar thickness for and core fiber-glass contents per unit area on external strength of 3-layer polymer composite pipes. For the more economical and practical design of 3-layer polymer composite pipe, further study should be done for the various polymer mortar, fiber-glass and different ratio of the inside/outside FRP thickness.
Residual stress distribution in injection-molded short fiber composites was determined using layer-removal method. Polysterene with 3 vol% carbon fibers was injection-molded into the tensile specimen. With milling machine layer-removal process was conducted and the curvature data were acquired. Treuting and Read analysis which is assuming isotropic material, and White analysis considering anisotropy due to the fiber orientation were used to calculate residual stress of the flow direction through the thickness direction and compared with each other.
