McCARD is a Monte Carlo (MC) neutron-photon transport simulation code. It has been developed exclusively for the neutronics design of nuclear reactors and fuel systems. It is capable of performing the whole-core neutronics calculations, the reactor fuel burnup analysis, the few group diffusion theory constant generation, sensitivity and uncertainty (S/U) analysis, and uncertainty propagation analysis. It has some special features such as the anterior convergence diagnostics, real variance estimation, neutronics analysis with temperature feedback, $B_1$ theory-augmented few group constants generation, kinetics parameter generation and MC S/U analysis based on the use of adjoint flux. This paper describes the theoretical basis of these features and validation calculations for both neutronics benchmark problems and commercial PWR reactors in operation.

This paper concerns estimating uncertainties of the core neutronics design parameters of power reactors by direct sampling method (DSM) calculations based on the two-step McCARD/MASTER design system in which McCARD is used to generate the fuel assembly (FA) homogenized few group constants (FGCs) while MASTER is used to conduct the core neutronics design computation. It presents an extended application of the uncertainty propagation analysis method originally designed for uncertainty quantification of the FA FGCs as a way to produce the covariances between the FGCs of any pair of FAs comprising the core, or the covariance matrix of the FA FGCs required for random sampling of the FA FGCs input sets into direct sampling core calculations by MASTER. For illustrative purposes, the uncertainties of core design parameters such as the effective multiplication factor ($k_{eff}$), normalized FA power densities, power peaking factors, etc. for the beginning of life (BOL) core of Yonggwang nuclear unit 4 (YGN4) at the hot zero power and all rods out are estimated by the McCARD/MASTER-based DSM computations. The results are compared with those from the uncertainty propagation analysis method based on the McCARD-predicted sensitivity coefficients of nuclear design parameters and the cross section covariance data.
JEF-1-based 50-group cross section set for fast reactor calculations was generated using NJOY system. The set was then examined by analyzing measured integral quantities such as criticality and central reaction rate ratios for 27 fast critical assemblies. The calculated results using the new set were also compared with those of ENDF/B-IV or-V-based fast set. In general, the JEF-1-based set shows an improvement in predicting measured integral quantities in comparison with the previous set. With a few exceptions, JEF-1 results are comparable to those of ENDF/B-V.

Scenario-based learning (SBL) has been used in a variety of training situations across different disciplines. Despite its seemly widespread use in construction management discipline, very few attempts have been made to explore its effectiveness and the respective students' learning experience. Using a survey research design, this study aims to investigate students' perceptions on SBL approach in construction management courses. The specific objectives are: (i) to identify the characteristics of a favourable SBL environment, and (ii) to explore the students' learning experience and effectiveness of the SBL approach. The results show that the four characteristics of a favourable SBL environment are: effective team formulation, constant engagement with lecturer, working in a group, and incorporation of motivational incentive for participation. The students really appreciated the opportunities to apply concepts learnt in the lectures in their SBL group work. Also, they perceived that the SBL approach is effective in developing their reflective and critical thinking skills, analytic and problem-solving skills and their ability to work as a team. These findings should facilitate more critical approaches to similar form of teaching methods.

Green Leaf Volatiles (GLVs) is a class of biogenically emitted oxygenated hydrocarbons that have been identified as a potential source of Secondary Organic Aerosols (SOA) via aqueous oxidation. The physico-chemical properties of GLVs are vital to understanding their fate and transport in the atmosphere via fog processing, but few experimental data are available. We studied the aqueous solubility, 1-octanol/water partition coefficient, and Henry's law constant ($K_H$) of five GLVs at $25^{\circ}C$: methyl jasmonate, methyl salicylate, 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol, cis-3-hexen-1-ol, and cis-3-hexenyl acetate. Henry's law constant was also measured at temperatures and ionic strengths typical of fog. Experimental values are compared to scarcely-available literature values, as well as estimations using group and bond contribution methods, property-specific correlations and molecular dynamics simulations. From these values, the partition coefficients to the air-water interface were also calculated. The large Henry's law constant of methyl jasmonate ($8091{\pm}1121M{\cdot}atm^{-1}$) made it the most significant GLV for aqueous phase photochemistry. The HENRYWIN program's bond contribution method from the Estimation Programs Interface Suite (EPI Suite) produced the best estimate of the Henry's constant for GLVs. Estimations of 1-octanol/water partition coefficient and solubility are best when correlating an experimental value of one to find the other. Finally, the scavenging efficiency was calculated for each GLV indicating aqueous phase processing will be most important for methyl jasmonate.
Ant communities are well suited for monitoring changes in ecosystems. Although numerous studies have examined the responses of ant communities to environmental disturbance, relatively few long-term studies on ant communities have been undertaken in urban environments. We examined species richness in nine urban parks in Hiroshima, Japan, and compared the survey results with data collected at the same sites by using the same methods in 1999. In both surveys, total of 25 species was recorded: 23 species in 1999 and 20 species in 2012. Non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis revealed that the ant communities consisted of two distinct groups, which could in turn be characterized by three patterns of ant community changes in between the two groups. The first of these community change patterns was characterized by a shift within group 1, but the number of species remained constant (approx. 10 species). The second pattern was characterized by a shift within group 2, but the number of species remained low (approx. 4 species). The third pattern was characterized by a shift from group 1 to group 2 as the abundance of Linepithema humile (Mayr) increased over time. Unlike the first and second patterns, the number of ant species in communities of the third type decreased significantly. These findings suggest that L. humile has a marked effect on the species diversity of indigenous ant communities in urban environments.
The kinetics of polycondensation of bishydroxyethyl naphthalate has been studied in the range of 241 -$260^{\circ}C$ using antimony trioxide catalyst. The reaction was performed in a batch reactor and the concentration of reaction mixture was measured with HPLC. The activation energy values of forward and reverse reaction determined from molecular species model were found to be 19.7 and 31.4 kcal/mole, respectively, and the equilibrium constants were in the range of 1.4-2.0, which were larger than that of polycondensation of PET and varied to some degree with temperature. It was confirmed by applying the Flory's distribution function that the reaction rate of the hyroxyethyl group does not depend on the molecular size. By applying functional group model, we observed that there was few difference between the activation energy of the forward reaction and that of reverse reaction, therefore the equilibrium constant has almost constant value of 1.4. The rate constants obtained from functional group model was about 3-4 times larger than that from molecular species model, which showed that both model explains the reaction system well. Although the molecular species model should predict the concentration of as many as ten molecules, it fits for the experimental results well.

We have investigated the dimensional nature of center-of-mass exciton confinement states in a CdMnTe/CdTe/CdMnTe heterostructure, where the CdTe well is too wide (144 nm) to confine both electrons and holes but able to confine whole excitons in the center-of-mass coordinate. Fine multiple photoluminescence spectra with a few meV separation were observed at 6 K. From the thickness dependence of the transition rate, they were attributed to even numbered center-of-mass exciton confinement states (N = 2, 4, 6, ${\cdots}$, 18). Dimensionality of the center-of-mass exciton confinement states was also investigated in terms of temperature dependence of radiative decay time. At low temperatures (${\leq}12K$), we found that the ground state excitons are likely localized possibly due to the barrier interface fluctuation, resulting in a constant decay time (~350 ps). With increased temperature (${\geq}12K$), localized excitons are thermally released, giving rise to a linear temperature dependence of radiative decay time as an evidence of two-dimensional nature.

The author observed the effects of retrograde infusion of water soluble contrast media (Tele- brix 30) on the rabbit submandibular glands and compared the effects of different degrees of filling. 26 rabbits were divided into 2 groups of 12 each as experimentals and I group of 2 as normal controls. One experimental group was filled with 0.2㎖ and the other with 0.4㎖. Right submandibular gland of each rabbit was infused with contrast media and left one with physiologic saline as a experimental control, at a constant rate of 0.12㎖/min. using an infusion pump via the main excretory duct. Immediately after the infusion of contrast media, oblique lateral radiographs of the glands were made with occlusal film in order to confirm the glandular filling. The rabbits were sacrificed after varying periods (1, 8, 24 hours and 3, 6, 10 days) and the tissues were prepared for light and electron microscopic examination. The results were as follows: 1. In glands filled with 0.2㎖ contrast media, the initial changes were a few vacuole formation in the acini and slight dilation of the intralobular duct. The moderately severe changes such as vacuole formation in the acini, the abnormal substructure within the secretory granule, dilation of acinar and intercalated duct lumen, scalloping of striated duct lumen and inflammatory cell infiltrate were observed at 3 days. The general appearance was successively recovered, so the tissue had a normal appearance at 10 days. 2. In glands filled with 0.4㎖ contrast media, the most prominent alterations such as severe acinar atrophy, decreased number of secretory granules, proliferation of connective tissue stroma and pronounced inflammatory cell infiltrates appeared at 6 days. Although the general appearance returned to be almost normal at 10 days, acinar cells showed some atrophy and decreased secretory granules. 3. In glands subjected to 0.4㎖ infusion, the alterations were more severe and the recovery was slower than those seen in the glands to 0.2㎖ infusion.
The uranium removal capacity of radish sprouts (Raphanus sativus L.) in groundwater was calculated on the basis of the amount of uranium accumulated in the radish sprouts rather than the concentration in solution, of which process was very limited in previous studies. Continuous rhizofiltration clean-up system was designed to investigate the feasibility of radish sprouts, applying for uranium contaminated groundwater (U concentration: 110 μg/L) taken at Bugogdong, Busan. Six acrylic boxes (10 cm × 30 cm × 10 cm) were connected in a direct series for the continuous rhizofiltration system and 200 g of radish sprouts cultivars was placed in each box. The groundwater was flushed through the system for 48 hours at the constant rate of 5 mL/min. The rhizofiltration system was operated in the phytotron, of which conditions were at 25℃ temperature, 70% of relative humidity, 4,000 Lux illumination (16 hours/day) and 600 mg/L of CO2 concentration. While 14.4 L of contaminated groundwater was treated, the uranium removal efficiency of the radish sprouts (1,200 g in wet weight) was 77.2% and their removal capacities ranged at 152.1 μg/g-239.7 μg/g (the average: 210.8 μg/g), suggesting that the radish sprouts belong to the group of hyper-accumulation species. After the experiment, the sum of U amounts accumulated in radish sprouts and remained in groundwater was 1,472.2 μg and the uranium recovery ratio of this rhizofiltration experiment was 92.9%. From the results, it was investigated that the radish sprouts can remove large amounts of uranium from contaminated groundwater in a short time (few days) because the fast growth rate and the high U accumulation adsorption capacity.
