A freshwater fish carp(Cyprinus carpio) was exposed to two organophosphorus insecticides in laboratory to investigate the potential of its bioconcentration. The results are summarized as follows: Bioconcentration factor of diazinon and fenitrothion after 24-hour exposure at 1 ppm concentration was 31 and 57, respectively, for the whole fish. The factor varied among different tissues of the fish in the decreasing order of viscera>rests>gills>muscle. When the fish was exposed to fenitrothion for 28 days at three different concentrations of 6, 30 and 150 ppb, bioconcentration factor in the whole fish ranged from 96 to 138, with a decreasing tendency at higher water concentration. The pesticide was continuously absorbed by the fish, but reaching an equilibrium at the tissue concentration of about 3.5 ppm.
Effects of exposure to a neurotoxicant, fenitrothion on antioxidant enzyme activities in Chironomus riparius Mg. (Diptera, Chironomidae) larvae were evaluated under laboratory conditions. Exposure to this chemical led to an increase of cupper, zinc type superoxide dismutase and manganese type superoxide dismutase activities and to a decrease of glutathion peroxidase activity. An activation of catalase was observed in the larvae exposed to high fenitrothion concentration. The response of superoxide dismutase was rapid and sensitive to low chemical concentrations, but changes in catalase, total peroxidase and glutathion peroxidase were less sensitive. In this study, antioxidant enzyme activities in Chironomus riparius larvae were identified as pertinent biomarkers for environmental monitoring.
The three electrode system was used to detect the pesticide fenitrothion ($C_9H_{12}NO_5PS$. MW=277.24) using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV). The working electrode was mercury immobilized on a carbon nanotube paste electrode (Hg-CNTPE). At the optimized condition, the limit of detection (LoD) was 0.6 ppt ($2.16{\times}10^{-12}\;M$), and the relative standard deviation was 0.035% (n=15). And there is more sensitive in detecting fenitrothion than common type carbon nanotube paste electrode. When it was implanted into the brain of live fish (carp), the existence of fenitrothion was measured without any destruction or damage of tissue.
Bait formulations containing 50% micro-capsuled fenitrothion, 2.0% hydramethylnon or 0.8% chlorpyrifos were evaluated in an 8 week field experiment against German cockroach, Blattella germanica(L). In German cockroach infested 15 restaurants, micro-capsuled fenitrothion (avg. 82.8%) was more effective at reducing adult German cockroach populations than chlorpyrifos (avg. 68.4%), but was about equally as effective as hydramethylnon(avg. 86.1%). The baits of micro-capsuled fenitrothion (avg. 76.5%), hydramethylnon (avg. 82.8%) and chlorpyrifos (avg. 74.9%) almost equally reduced nymphal German cockroach populations in the field. Most baits remained in the bait stations at the heavily infested restaurants after the 8 week treatments. However, the contents of hydramethylnon baits had been subject to significantly greatest consumption (0.72g) and the remaining bait was on the average of 57% by German cockroaches. It was assumed that the previous phenomenon of extra consumption of bait was explained by the infesting cockroaches continuously taking these baits because of the mode of action, the bait food material and the population densities of German cockroaches.
Organophosphorus pesticide residues such as Diazinon, Fenitrothion and EPN in apple and effect of storage peeling and washing on removal of the residues from apple soaked in 3 kinds of pesticides solutions for 20 seconds were studed with gas chromatography-nitrogen phosphorus detecter(GC-NPD). Result obtained are as follows : 1) Average concentrations of DiaEinon, Fenitrothion, and EPN detected in apple of control group were 0.022, 0.007 and 0.008 ppm respectively. 2) Decreasing rates of Diazinon on 7 th, 14 th, 21 st, 28 th, and 35 th day after soaking apple on the pesticide solution were 41.3% , 68.6% , 87.0%, 96.9% and 99.5% respectively. In case of Fenitrothion were 46.9%, 66.3%, 84.9%, 93.2% and 97.3% and EPN were 45.7 %, 76.2%, 85.4%, 95.7% and 99.4% respectively. 3) The removal rate of Diazinon, Fenitrothion and EPN by washing with water alone were 93.7%, 70.6% and 51.5% respectively, and 97.1% , 78.4% ailed 76.5% by washing with 0.2% detergent solution respectively. The results obtained in this study have show that 3 kinds of pesticides detected in app- les were below the Korean standard for residual pesticides and pesticides contaminated in apples were decreased in considerable degree by washing with water and 2% detergent solution and removed almost completely after storage for 35 days (5 weeks). Therefore, it would be concluded that washing and peeling will be the most effective way for safely because more than 90% of pesticide exist in peel.
This study was conducted to observe the effects of pesticides on the pathogenicity of entomopathogenic fungi, Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae isolated from Korea. Spomlation of entomopathogenic fungi in SMAY medium that mixed different concentrations of pesticides was similar to control in metalaxyl and tolclofos- methyl treatment but in half recommanded treatment of fenitrothion and mepronil very poor spomlation was showed. Pathogenicity of entomopathogenic fungi dipped in all tested pesticide solution for 1 to 5hr was 100% pathogenicity of M. aniropliae in the pesticide treated chinese cabage fields were similar to control, Bt, teflubenzuron, metalaxyl, and carbofuran treatment but alachlol was below 80%. Pathogenicity and persistence of entomopathogenic fungi in turfgrass when pesticides were posttreatmented were continued to 4 months in iprodione+thiram and tolclofos-methyl treated plots but those of B. bassiana and M. anisopliae was losted in fenitrothion pathogenicity and persistence of in mepronil were nil M. anisopliae from 3 months after treatment.
The electrochemical reduction of O,O-dimethyl-O-(3-methyl-4-nitrophenyl)-phosphorothioate (Fenitrothion) has been studied in acetonitrile solution containing surfactant micelle by direct current (DC)-differential pulse (DP) polarography, cyclic voltammetry (CV) and controlled potential coulometry (CPC). The partially reversible electron transfer-chemical reaction(EC, EC mechanism) of fenitrothion reduction proceeded by four electron transfer to form O,O-dimethyl-O-(3-methyl-4-hydroxyaminophenyl)-phosphorothioate which undergoes single bond of the phosphorus atom and phenoxy group cleaves to give p-amino-m-cresol and dimethyl thiophosphinic acid as major product by two electron transfer-protonation at higher negative potential. The polarograpic reduction waves shown to suppressed due to inhibitory effect of sodium lauryl sulfate micelle solution and split up on selectivity of anionic micelle effect in two step at the first reduction peak.
Insecticidal activity of 33 registered insecticides was tested against last nymphal instars and adults of ussur brown katydid (Paratlanticus ussuriensis). All experiments were tested at the recommended concentration of each insecticides by producer. Acephate, chlorpyrifos, diazinon, EPN and fenitrothion which were organophates, and a mixture combined with chlorpyrifos+${\alpha}$-cypemethrin showed 100% mortality of P. ussuriensis. But fipronil showed only 100% mortality in leaf-dipping method. Carbamates insecticidal groups, benfuracarb and furathiocarb were showed over 80% and phenthoate was $60{\sim}80%$ in mortality of P. ussuriensis. Among the mixture, etofenprox+diazinon and esfenvalerate+fenitrothion were showed 60-80% against last nymphal instars of P. ussuriensis. Otherwise, acephate, chlorpyrifos, diazinon, EPN and fenitrothion were showed 100% mortality of P. ussuriensis within only 24 hours after treatment, but there was no effective after then in residual tests with leaves.
Environmentally sound control of Japanese lawngrass cutworm, Spodoptera depravata with Korean entomopathogenic nematodes (Heterorhabditis sp. Gyeongsan, Steinernema carpocapsae GSNI , S. glaseri Dongrae, S. longicaudum Nonsan, and S. monticolum Jiri) was evaluated in the laboratory and field. In addition, effect of turf height on the pathogenicity of entomopathogenic nematodes and density of ant (Formica japonica) and spine-tailed earwigs (Forficula scudderi) were investigated in the field. The corrected mortality of 3rd instar of S. depravata larvae was 53.3% to 66.7% 5 days later after treatment of entomopathogenic nematodes. $LC_{50}$ value of S. carpocapsae GSN1 and S. monticolum Jiri against 3rd instar of S. depravata was 6.9 and 3.9, respectively. Pathogenicity of S. carpocapsae GSN1 was different depending on larval stages, i.e., mortality of 2nd instar was the highest representing 73.3% but decreased from 3rd instar. Turf height affected pathogenicity of entomopathogenic nematodes. Mortality of 4th instar of S. depravata was 40.0% by S. carpocapsae GSN1 and 33.3% by S. monticolum Jiri, and 83.3% by fenitrothion, respectively, in the turf height of 14mm, but those were lower in 45mm. The corrected mortality of S. depravata larvae was lower at the entomopathgenic nematode plots than fenitrothion plot in the distribution field of Formica japonica. However, reduction rate of F japonica was higher in fenitrothion by 56.7% compared with 0% in S. carpocapsae GSN1 and 6.7% in S. monticolum Jiri. Turf height influenced control of S. depravate in S. carpocapsae GSN1 and fenitrothion. Control value of S. carpocapsae GSN1 was 62.2% in the turf height of 3-4cm, but not effective at all in 6-8cm and 12-14cm. However, there was not significantly different in fenitrothion plots. Forficula Scudderi was also reduced only in fenitrothion plots. Reduction rate was 100% in 3-4cm, 41.7% in 6-8cm, and 16.7% in 12-14cm, respectively.
