무지개송어(Onchorhynchus mykiss)의 해수 적응 능력 개선을 위한 식염사료의 적용 (Use of Dietary Salt to Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) for Increasing Seawater Adaptability)

  • One 30-day feeding trial was conducted to examine the effects of dietary salt on seawater adaptability of rainbow trout (Onchorhynchus mykiss) fed three experimental diets containing 0% (control), 4% and 8% salt. The experimetal period included 30 days of feeding trial in freshwater, 3 days of the step by step seawater acclimation with-out feeding diets, and 21 more days of seawater adaptation period (not with all experimental fish) with feeding the basal diet. Growth rates from triplicate groups were determined fur 30 days of feeding trial. Blood samples were taken at the begining and at the end of feeding trial, and 3 times (on 1st, 4th and 8th day) of the seawater adaptation period. Daily survival rates of duplicate groups from three experimetal treatments were recorded for 21 days of the seawater adaptation period. Total average initial and final fish weight were $149.5{\pm}7.6\;and\;187.1{\pm}7.6g$. Feed efficiency of fish fed diets containing 4% and 8% salt were significantly better than those of fish fed the control diet. Average cumulative survival rates were 72, 80 and 88% from the control, 4% and 8% salt diets, respectively. Pulse rate per minutes decreased with dietary salt level. Serum $Na^+\;and\;Cl^-$ concentrations of fish fed 4% and 8% salt diets were significantly higher than those of fish fed the control diet (P<0.05), however, the concentrations were stabilized after 8 days of seawater adaptation. Serum cortisol, glucose, cholesterol and tryglyceride concentrations, and the osmorality of fish decreased with dietary salt level, these values were significantly lower than those of fish fed the control diet. These results indicated that the dietary supplementation of salt could have advantages for seawater adaptability of rainbow trout.

미숙아, 후기 미숙아와 조기 만삭아의 모유수유 실태 및 모유수유 임파워먼트 비교 (Comparison of breast feeding practice rates and mothers' breast feeding empowerment in preterm, late preterm and early term infants)

  • 모유는 아기에게 필요한 풍부한 영양분을 고루 갖춘 우수한 영양 공급원으로 특히 미숙아의 성장발달에 매우 중요하지만 미숙아의 모유수유 실천정도는 매우 저조한 실정이다. 본 연구는 재태 연령을 기준으로 34주 미만 미숙아, 34주 0일에서 36주 6일의 후기 미숙아, 37주 0일에서 38주 6일의 조기 만삭아를 분만한 어머니를 대상으로 모유수유 실천율과 모유수유 임파워먼트를 비교 분석하기 위함이다. 병원 퇴원 당시 모유수유 실천율은 세 군 간에 유의한 차이가 있었다. 즉, 후기 미숙아와 34주 미만 미숙아의 모유수유 실천율은 조기 만삭아의 모유수유 실천율보다 낮았다. 또 모유수유 임파워먼트 총점에서도 34주 미만 미숙아 모와 후기 미숙아 모는 조기 만삭아 모보다 더 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 국내 모유수유 실천율을 향상시키기 위해 미숙아 모를 대상으로 한 모유수유 증진 방안이 마련되어야 하고 이 때 모유수유 실천에 대한 자신감 부여가 필요함을 나타내는 결과이다.

남녀 대학생의 예상 수유방법에 따른 모유영양에 관한 지식과 태도 및 식습관의 비교 (Nutrition Knowledge of and Attitudes toward Breast-Feeding and Food Habits in Relation to the Expected Infant Feeding Method among Male and Female College Students)

  • In order to provide the basic data on an education program for successful breast-feeding, the nutrition knowledge of and attitudes toward breast-feeding and the factors associated with infant feeding decision among male and female college students were investigated. The majority of students had correct knowledge of the maternal-infant bonding through breast-feeding and knew more about baby-centered benefits than about mother-centered benefits of breast-feeding. Students' attitudes toward breast-feeding were not so positive as expected, and male students had more positive attitudes toward breast-feeding than female students had. 54.8% of students answered to practice breast-feeding longer than 3 months. Nutrition knowledge scores and attitude scores were significantly higher in the breast-feeding decision group than in the formula-feeding decision group. The students residing in a rural community decided breast-feeding significantly more than the students residing in an urban community. It was concluded that nutrition knowledge about the breast-feeding played a significant role in deciding infant feeding method. In order to increase breast-feeding decision rates among college students, the education program may need to focus on understanding of correct nutrition knowledge about the benefits of breast-feeding. Also it would be important to have male students participated in education program.

모유수유 기간에 미치는 영향요인 (Influencing Factors in Breast Feeding Duration)

  • Purpose: The objectives of this study were to investigate the current breast feeding rates in Jeju Province and to identify factors which influence breast feeding duration after birth. Method: The subjects were 189 women with a child between 12 months and 24 months old. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire from October 2003 to January 2004. Measures used in this study included general characteristics, delivery related characteristics, breast feeding related characteristics and the feeding type over a 12-month period after birth. Result: The study showed that the breast feeding rate in the first month was 63.1%, later dropping to 30.9% in the sixth month. In addition, only 14.2% of subjects were still breast feeding the baby at twelve months of age. The mean of breast feeding duration was 4.77 months. The factors which influenced breast feeding duration were wanted pregnancy, breast feeding education, planning of breast feeding and breast feeding experience. Conclusion: Considering the low rate of long-term breast feeding, the importance of breast feeding should be emphasized to promote and support the continuation of breast feeding in addition to at its initial stage. Based on the results, programs on breast feeding promotion and continuation need to be developed.

Feeding behavior of the copepod Temora turbinata: clearance rate and prey preference on the diatom and microbial food web components in coastal area

  • Feeding behavior of Temora turbinata was investigated through laboratory experiments with special emphasis on its food preference and consequent clearance rate on diatom and microbial components given as common natural food assemblage of coastal area (Uchiumi, Uwa Sea, Japan). Among available prey items, T. turbinata showed the highest clearance rate for Thalassiosira spp. ($0.23{\pm}0.08L\;Temora^{-1}day^{-1}$) followed by Chaetoceros spp. ($0.11{\pm}0.03L\;Temora^{-1}day^{-1}$), but clearance rates for other diatom, Nitzschia spp. was lower (0.03 to $0.07L\;Temora^{-1}day^{-1}$). Bacterial abundances showed no response against 24-h feeding of T. turbinata. Feeding of T. turbinata on heterotrophic nanoflagellates (HNF) was apparent when clearance rates of T. turbinata on diatoms were relatively low, but T. turbinata did not consume HNF as well as ciliates with Thalassiosira spp. of which clearance rate was highest. The results suggest that HNF and ciliates are possible supplementary prey item for T. turbinata, but their contribution as food sources can be limited by the presence of other prey items such as preferable diatom species.

  • As a preliminary study, effects of environmetal pollutants on propagation of freshwater microalgae, Cryptomonas ovata and feeding rate of Corbicula leana were investigated at 20${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$, over 20 days after treatment of pollutants, glucose, complex fertilizer and NH4Cl. Number of C. ovata in control group was increased from 38${\times}$104 cell/ml to 1.910${\times}$104 cell/ml after 20 days cultivation in Sorokin-Krauss medium. Increments of cell number in experimental groups treated with glucose, complex fertilizer and NH4Cl were higher than that of control group. The higher propagation rate of C.ovata was observed when 30 mg/l of glucose treated, 120 mg/l of complex fertilizer treated, and 4 mg/l of NH4Cl treated, compared with other concentrations in each pollutant treated group. The feeding rates of large size group of C. leana which fed with a living organism, C. ovata in each experimental group were higher than small size group, and slightly reduced with the increase of pollutant concentrations. The feeding rates were not significantly different between any concentrations of the pollutant, and among experimental groups treated with glucose, complex fertilizer and NH4Cl.

비영양 흡철의 미숙아 행동상태에 대한 효과 (Effects of Nonnutritive Sucking on Behavioral State in Preform Infants)

  • The purpose of study was to examine the effect of nonnutritive sucking(NNS) on behavioral state in preform infants. Fourteen infants (gestational age 28-35 weeks, M=31.86 ; birth weights 1095-2275g, M=1694g) admitted to NICU, serving as their controls were randomly administered 5 min of nonnutritive sucking and a control condition. Behavioral state was measured using the Anderson Behavioral State Scale(ABSS). Heart rates were obtained for each infant before and during NNS and bottle feeding. Data collecction was done by 3 experienced nurses in NICU 2 times a day for conseculive 4 days for each subject. Interrater reliability were .80-.90. The findings were as follows : 1. Preform infants averaged active restless states 58.93% in the prointervention phase and 27.32% in the NNS phase. Inactive awake states were 3.57% in the preintervention phase and 34.64% in the NNS phase. 2. There were significantly more positive changes to inactive awake states for the NNS intervention, Z=-2.35, p=.01. 3. There was no statistically significant difference in heart rate change between NNS intervention and control condition, z=-1.15, p=.24. 4. The rates of feeding success determined by finishing prescribed amount of milk by bottle feeding within 15 minutes were 83.94% in NNS intervention and 89.29% in control condition. The findings from this study confirmed that NNS is effective for behavioral state modulation and inducing optimal state for feeding in preform infant. The NNS intervention in nursing practice may help the transition of preform infants for nipple feeding.

영아 어머니의 수유방법에 대한 실태 조사 - 서울시의 일개 지역 중심으로 - (Breast Feeding Method in Mothers of 4 Week Old Infants)

  • This retrospective descriptive study was done to identify maternal characteristics related to infant feeding methods. Data were collected by self-report from 90 mothers who visited a health clinic in Seoul between July 30 and August 14, 2001. The mothers were classified into 3 groups according to the feeding method at 4 weeks after childbirth; Exclusive breast feeding group, Mixed breast feeding group, Bottle feeding group. Mothers using exclusive breast feeding accounted for 46.6% of the mothers, those using mixed breast feeding, 26.7%, and those using bottle feeding, 26.7%. Although the percentage of mothers using exclusive breast feeding was higher, there was no significant difference among the groups. In our research, characteristics related to the mother were found to be in a state of change. Mothers with higher education and having a job had higher rates for exclusive breast feeding. This result is different from that of earlier research. Further research is needed to confirm these characteristics. In order to increase the rate for exclusive breast feeding and the duration of breast feeding, nurses need to provide programs aimed at fostering breast feeding and these programs should be based on characteristics related to breast feeding shown in our research.

유가식 배양에서 효모 생육과 RNA 함량의 변화 (Change of Yeast Growth and Its RNA Content in Fed-batch Fermentation)

  • Saccharomyces cerevisiae NS 2031의 유가식 배양에서 기질공급방법에 따라 효모 생육과 RNA 축적을 관찰하였다. Exponential feeding 형태에서 기질공급속도가 빠를 때 최종 배양 시간에서 균체량과 새포내 RNA 함량은 감소하는 경향을 나타내었으며, 배양시간이 경과함에 따라 균체내 RNA 함량은 전반적으로 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. Exponential feeding 형태의 동일한 기질공급속도에서, 기질공급농도가 높을수록 최종 균체량은 감소하였으며, 균체수율(Yx/s)은 10%의 기질공급농도에서 0.47로 가장 높았다. 균체내 RNA 함량은 기질공급농도가 높을수록 증가하는 경향을 보였다. Parabolic feeding 형태에서는 기질공급속도가 빠를수록 균체량은 감소하였으나, 균체내 RNA 함량은 증가하여 exponential feeding 형태에서와 다른 경향을 나타내었다. 두가지 기질공급형태에서 균체생육에 가장 좋은 기질공급 program의 결과를 비교해 보면, 균체량, 균체수율, 세포내 RNA 함량을 높이려면 exponential feeding 형태가 parabolic feeding 형태보다 유리하였다. 또한, 유가식 배양에서 같은 instantaneous growth rate $({\mu}_{inst})$에서 균체내 RNA 함량을 비교하면, exponential feeding이 parabolic feeding보다 2%가량 높게 유지되어, 기질공급형태가 균체내 RNA 축적 생리에 큰 영향을 주고 있음을 알았다.

The Effects of Water Deprivation on Cerebrospinal Fluid Constituents During Feeding in Sheep

  • The internal humoral factors in the central regulation of dry feed intake during water deprivation in sheep were investigated by measurement of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) constituents. Five animals were fed dried alfalfa chaff for 2 hours once a day. Sheep in the water deprivation treatment were deprived of water for 28 hours, while the sheep in the control treatment were given free access to water. During the first hour of the 2 hour feeding period, a rapid reduction in blood volume occured in both treatments (water deprivation and free access to water). The CSF concentrations of Na, Cl and osmolality during the second hour of the 2 hour feeding period in both treatments were greater (p<0.01) than those during the first hour. The drinking behaviors in sheep were concentrated during the second hour of the 2 hour feeding period in periods of free access to water. Water intake during feeding in periods of free access to water was 1110 ml/2 h. The levels of increase in CSF osmolality with feeding during water deprivation were greater (p<0.01) than during periods of free access to water. The changes in CSF osmolality with feeding during water deprivation produced more vigorous thirst sensations in the brain compared to during periods of free access to water. The eating rates for the first hour of the allotted 2 hour feeding period were the same under both treatments. However, the eating rates for the second hour during water deprivation periods decreased significantly (p<0.05) compared to those during periods of free access to water. The decreased eating rates for the second hour during water deprivation may be due to the vigorous thirst sensations produced in the brain. The results suggest that the increase in CSF osmolality with feeding during water deprivation acts as a thirst and satiety factor in brain mechanisms controlling feeding to decrease dry feed intake in water-deprived sheep.
