The effects tea beverages (TBs) prepared from powdered green tea (Gt), oolong tea (Ot), black tea (Bt), or pure tea (Pt) with lemon, orange, grenadine etc on cadmium toxicity in rats were investigated Sensory evaluations of the TBs are better than those of each water extracted teas. Cadmium (50 ppm) was administered to experimental rats fed a basic diet, or a diet with various TBs (15% w/v), for 5 weeks. Although body weight gains, feed intakes, and fecal weights in all Cd-treated groups were lower than those in the normal control group (NC), feed efficiency ratio, urine volumes, liver weights, and kidney weights did not differ significantly between groups. The serum ALT and AST levels in the Cd-treated control group (Cd-Co) were higher than those in the NC animals. Serum ALT and AST levels in all Cd-treated rats fed TB-supplemented diets were lower than in animals of the Cd-Co group. Tibia and femur weights in Cd-Co animals were lower than those in NC rats. Tibia and femur weights in Cd-treated rats fed TB-supplemented diets were higher than those in Cd-Co animals. There were no between-group differences in tibia lengths; animals in the NC and TB-supplemented diet groups showed femur lengths longer than those of Cd-Co rats. Although the contents of crude ash and cadmium in the femurs of Cd-Co mts was markedly higher than in the femurs of NC animals, the cadmium content in femurs of Cd-Co rats was significantly lower than that in the femurs of NC animals. The changes in mineral levels caused by Cd administration were alleviated by every TB-supplemented diet tested Whereas fecal calcium excretion by Cd-Co animals was significantly higher than that of NC rats, calcium excretion by Cd-treated rats fed TB-supplemented diets was significantly lower than that of Cd-Co animals. Fecal cadmium excretion by all Cd-treated rats fed TB-supplemented diets was significantly higher than that of Cd-Co animals. In conclusion, this study provides experimental evidence that various TBs may regulate cadmium-induced organ toxicity by reducing cadmium accumulation in tissues through the mechanism of increasing the fecal excretion of cadmium.

Objective: The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of a lipid-coated zinc oxide (ZnO) supplement Shield Zn (SZ) at the sub-pharmacological concentration on intestinal morphology and gene expression in weanling pigs, with an aim to gain insights into the mechanism of actions for SZ. Methods: Forty 22-day-old weanling pigs were fed a nursery diet supplemented with 100 or 2,500 mg Zn/kg with uncoated ZnO (negative control [NC] or positive control [PC], respectively), 100, 200, or 400 mg Zn/kg with SZ for 14 days and their intestinal tissues were taken for histological and molecular biological examinations. The villus height (VH) and crypt depth (CD) of the intestinal mucosa were measured microscopically following preparation of the tissue specimen; expression of the genes associated with growth and immune function was determined using the real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Results: There was no difference in daily gain, gain:feed, and diarrhea score between the SZ group and either of NC and PC. The VH and VH:CD ratio were less for the SZ group vs NC in the jejunum and duodenum, respectively (p<0.05). The jejunal mucosal mRNA levels of insulin-like growth factor (IGF-I) and interleukin (IL)-10 regressed and tended to regress (p = 0.053) on the SZ concentration with a positive coefficient, respectively, whereas the IL-6 mRNA level regressed on the SZ concentration with a negative coefficient. The mRNA levels of IGF-I, zonula occludens protein-1, tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$, IL-6, and IL-10 did not differ between the SZ group and either of NC and PC; the occludin and transforming growth $factor-{\beta}1$ mRNA levels were lower for the SZ group than for PC. Conclusion: The present results are interpreted to suggest that dietary ZnO provided by SZ may play a role in intestinal mucosal growth and immune function by modulating the expression of IGF-I, IL-6, and IL-10 genes.

Poly(phenylene sulfide-co-phenylene sulfide sulfone), PPS/PPSS copolymers were synthesized from p-dichlobenzene(DCB), p-dibromobenzene(DBB), p-diiodobenzene(DIB), 4-chlorophenyl sulfone(CPS) and sodium sulfide as comonomers under high temperature and pressure utilizing N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone(NMP) as solvent. The yield of PPS/PPSS copolymer shoed maximum at $190^{\circ}C$ with [DBB]/[CPS] and [DIB]/[CPS] comonomer pair, while [DCB]/[CPS] pair exhibited maximum yield at $230^{\circ}C$. The change of yield is in the order of I>Br>Cl as leaving groups were in accordance with nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction mechanism suggested for the synthesis of PPS type polymers. The molecular weight of PPS/PPSS copolymer was the highest($M_w=8,330g/mol$) with [DBB]/[CPS] comonomers in which [CPS] was 10 mole%. The PPS/PPSS copolymer made with 10 mole% of [CPS] showed about $15^{\circ}C$ higher $T_g$ and $15^{\circ}C$ lower $T_m$ than those of PPS homopolymer, which may be useful from the processing and thermal property point of view. The PPS/PPSS copolymer with 30 mole% of CPS or above did not exhibit Tm. The PPS/PPSS copolymer obtained with comonomer feed ratio of [DBB]/[CPS] = 95/5 mole% under $240^{\circ}C$ showed even higher molecular weight($M_w=10,300g/mole$) than PPS homopolymer made under similar reaction condition, retaining high crystallinity and thermal stability.

Membrane fouling in EC-MBR (Electro-Coagulation aided Membrane Bio-Reactor) processes was evaluated according to the operating parameters, such as current density and contact time. In addition, the fouling mechanism was investigated. Compared to the control (i.e., no electro-coagulation), membrane fouling for filtration of the activated sludge suspension after electro-coagulation was reduced significantly. Membrane fouling was improved further when the contact time was doubled under a low current density of $2.5A/m^2$. On the other hand, membrane fouling was not mitigated further, as expected, even though the contact time was doubled from 12 to 24 hr. at a current density of $10A/m^2$. This indicates that the overall decrease in membrane fouling is a function of the product of the current density and contact time. The particle size of the activated sludge flocs after electro-coagulation was changed slightly, which means that the membrane fouling reduction was not attributed to a larger particle size resulting from electro-coagulation. The experimental confirmed that the dynamic membrane made from aluminum hydroxide, Al(OH)3, and/or aluminum phosphate, Al(PO4), which had been formed during the electro-coagulation, played a key role on the reduction of membrane fouling. The dynamic membrane prevents the particles in the feed solution from deposition to the membrane pores and cake layers. Dynamic membrane formation as a result of electro-coagulation plays a critical role in the mitigation of membrane fouling in EC-MBR.

The applicability of room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs), 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([$C_nmim$] [$Tf_2N$]), was investigated for the extraction of Am(III) and Eu(III) from nitric acid using n-octyl(phenyl)-N,N-diisobutyl carbamoylmethyl phosphine oxide (CMPO) and tri-n-butylphosphate (TBP) as extractants. The distribution ratios of Am(III) and Eu(III) in CMPO-TBP/[$C_nmim$][$Tf_2N$] were measured as a function of various parameters such as the concentrations of nitric acid, CMPO, and TBP. The results were compared with those obtained in CMPO-TBP/n-dodecane (n-DD). With comparable concentrations of the extractants, the distribution ratios obtained with RTILs were much higher than those obtained with n-DD. It was observed that the extraction efficiency was less for Eu(III) than for Am(III). The extraction of Am(III) and Eu(III) decreased with increases in the feed acidity for all three RTILs. The results suggest that the extraction of Am(III) and Eu(III) by CMPO in RTILs from nitric acid proceeds through the cation-exchange mechanism. The distribution ratios of Am(III) and Eu(III) increased with increases in the concentration of CMPO for all three RTILs. A linear regression analysis of the extraction data resulted in a straight line with a slope of about 3, suggesting the involvement of 3 molecules of CMPO during the extraction process.
FBs, secondary metabolites of several species of Fusaria, especially Fusarium moniliforme and F proliferatum, are commonly contaminated in com and other food grains throughout the world. Only recently identified, these mycotoxins have been associated field outbreaks of ELEM in horses and PPE in pigs. Currently, naturally or experimentally induced FB toxicosis has been studied in poultry, ruminants and rabbits. Poultry fed FB showed decreased growth rate, performance, and immune competence, as well as embryopathic, and embryocidal effects, and ricktes. Ruminants seem to be relatively less susceptible to FBs than other doestic animal. FB toxicosis reveals that liver is a target organ in all species, although other organs are affected in a species specific manner. Recently, the main target organs for $FB_1$ toxicity in rabbits was shown to be the kidney. Even low concentrations of FBs are likely to be a problem for animal health. A current study being conducted showed that feed containing low level of $FB_1$ reduces the ability of pulmonary intravascular macrophages in pig to clear blood-borne particles which would increase the susceptibility of animals to bacterial disease. The mechanism of FB toxicity remains unknown, but may be related to altered sphingolipid biosynthesis by inhibiting sphinganine N-acyltransferase. Elevations of serum and tissue SA:SO ratio have been observed in horse, pig, chicken, turkey, and rabbit, which could could serve as in effective biomarker for consumption of FB-containing feeds. There is limited information detailing dose-effect relationships either from field cases or in the laboratory. More research on the factors, including the prevalence and tolerance levels of FBs in feedstuffs that cause domestic animal disease associated with FBs, is urgently needed.

In metal cutting the shape of generated chip varies according to cutting conditions, characteristics of workpiece and geometry of cutting tool. The best surface roughness of machined workpiece is obtained when generating flow type contrinuous chip. If the generated chip is not broken, that is not only tangled workpiece and cutting tool, but also may give damage on the machined surface of workpiece or danger for a operator. The flow type continuous chip may bring the low productivity in high speed any heavy cutting, automatic machining process and non-human factory. There are two type of chip break process ; controlling cutting condition and using chip breaker. In present study we carried out the experiment on new type chip breaker compared with conventional type and proved the efficiency of a new type and showed the chip break condition to be applied in actual metal cutting. In the experiment SM 20 C as a workpiece material and WC as a tool material were used and cutting speed of 30-150m/min, feed of 0.071-0.210mm/rev and depth of cut of 1mm were applied as cutting condition. The results of the experiment are as follows : (1) The mechanism of chip curl can be explained more clearly by plastic flow of workpiece material and moment of shearing force. (2) The most effective radius of curled chip and flat distance from cutting edge is 2.0-2.5mm and 1.5mm in both types. (3) The effective inclination angle of chip break surface and side cutting edge angle are 30.deg.- 45.deg. and 20.deg. in conventional type, while the radius of arc surface, lower arc angle A, upper arc angle B and side cutting edge angle are 3mm, 20.deg.- 45.deg., 0.deg.- 45.deg. and 10.deg.- 20.deg. in new type. (4) The probability to be obtained 100% chip breaking ratio is much higher in new type than in conventional type.

The kinetics of the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and water gas shift reactions over a precipitated iron catalyst were studied in a 5 channel fixed-bed reactor. Experimental conditions were changed as follows: synthesis gas $H_2$/CO feed ratios of 0.5~2, reactants flow rate of 60~80 ml/min, and reaction temperature of $255{\sim}275^{\circ}C$ at a constant pressure of 1.5 MPa. The reaction rate of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis was calculated from Eley-Rideal mechanism in which the rate-determining step was the formation of the monomer species (methylene) by hydrogenation of associatively adsorbed CO. Whereas water gas shift reaction rate was determined by the formation of a formate intermediate species as the rate-determining step. As a result, the reaction rates of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis for the hydrocarbon formation and water gas shift for the $CO_2$ production were in good agreement with the experimental values, respectively. Therefore, the reaction rates ($r_{FT}$, $r_{WGS}$, $-r_{CO}$) derived from the reaction mechanisms showed good agreement both with experimental values and with some kinetic models from literature.
This study aims to investigate breakage and liberation characteristics of iron ore from Shinyemi mine, Jeongseon by ball mill. Parameters of breakage functions for three grade samples of iron ore were obtained using single-sized-feed breakage test and back-calculation based on nonlinear programming. The results showed that with the increase in the grade of iron ore, the breakage rate factor decrease whereas the particle size sensitivity decreases. This results from retardation of microcrack-propagation by magnetite grain in the ore. Breakage distribution analysis showed that the breakage mechanism appear to be impact fracture dominant with the increase of grade owing to the stress distribution effect by magnetite grain. Degree of liberation (DOL) increased with the increase in grade and decrease in particle size, respectively. Using the breakage function and size-DOL relationship, a model that can predict time-dependent-DOL is established. When scale-up factors from operating condition are available, the model is expected to be capable of predicting size and DOL with time in actual mining process.

The development of a new sorbent for carbon dioxide depends on several factors, such as fast adsorption/absorption velocity, hydrophobicity, and lower regeneration temperature than commercial sorbent. In this study, aminosilane grafted activated carbon was synthesized to capture CO2. Methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane (APTES) were used as the grafting precursor of the amine functional group. The APTES grafting activated carbon showed higher sorption property than MTMS used one. The characteristics of the separation mechanism of carbon dioxide were examined by measuring the adsorption capacity according to temperature and carbon dioxide partial pressure. The absorption capacity of carbon dioxide was similar to amine grafting activated carbon and activated carbon at 25℃, but amine-grafted activated carbon was higher at 75℃. The amine functional group-grafted activated carbon showed higher absorption capacity than activated carbon with a 1% carbon dioxide partial pressure. Aminosilane grafting of activated carbon was chemically absorbed but also showed the characteristics of physical adsorption. The reforming activated carbon with an amine functional group grafted solid absorption/adsorption sorbent would significantly impact the material engineering industry and carbon dioxide adsorption process. The functionalized sorbent is a high-performance composite material. The developed sorbent may have applications in other industrial processes of absorption/adsorption and separation.
