Use of N-alkanes to Estimate Intake and Digestibility by Beef Steers

  • The objective of the study was to evaluate the use of n-alkanes to estimate DM intake and digestibility by beef cattle. Six steers were blocked (3 blocks, 2 animals/block) according to the body weight (279${\pm}$19 kg) and randomly allotted within blocks to two diets (3 steers/diet). A second trial was conducted with the same animals (321${\pm}$18 kg) after 36 days (d), using a switch back design. The diets consisted of two types of chopped sun-cured hay, alfalfa (Medicago sativa L) hay, or fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb) and alfalfa mixture, which were fed in equal amounts to steers. Animals were dosed with $C_{32}$ and $C_{36}$ alkanes, employing an intra-ruminal controlled-release device at the beginning of each trial. Hay intake per animal was measured from d 6 to 12 and sub samples were taken for chemical analysis. Rectal samples of feces were taken from each animal once/daily from d 8 to 14, freeze dried, and ground prior to alkane analysis. Alkanes were extracted from ground hay and feces. Feed intake was calculated from the dose rate of $C_{32}$ alkane and, the herbage and fecal concentrations of adjacent odd ($C_{33}$ or $C_{31}$) and even ($C_{32}$) chain length alkanes. Crude Protein, NDF, ADF, ash concentrations and In vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) were 17.7, 42.2, 28.4, 7.9 and 71.7 for alfalfa, and 12.4, 56.5, 30.4, 6.9 and 69.1% for fescue/alfalfa mixture, respectively. For both diets, intake estimated from $C_{33}$:$C_{32}$ ratio was not different from the measured intake, but intake estimated from $C_{31}$:$C_{32}$ ratio was lower (p<0.05), than the measured intake for both diets. The average estimated forage intake from $C_{33}$:$C_{32}$ ratio was 4.86 and 0.69% below than the measured intake for alfalfa and, fescue/alfalfa mixed diets, respectively. The respective estimates with $C_{31}$:$C_{32}$ ratio were 9.59 and 11.33% below than the measured intake. According to these results, alkane $C_{33}$:$C_{32}$ ratio is better than alkane $C_{31}$:$C_{32}$ ratio for the estimation of intake by beef steers.

초대형 굴삭기용 유압펌프 구동 기어박스의 수명시험에 관한 연구 (A Study of the Life Test of Hydraulic Pump Driving Gear Box for the Large Excavator)

  • 차체중량이 90 ton인 초대형 유압굴삭기에서는 유압시스템의 효율향상을 통한 연비개선을 위해서 유압펌프 구동용 기어박스(hydraulic pump driving gear box)를 사용하여 다수(3~6개)의 펌프를 병렬로 장착하여 사용한다. 펌프 구동 기어 박스는 굴삭기의 대형엔진과 연결되는 입력 축 1개로 기계적 동력인 회전수와 토크를 공급받아 고압펌프와 저압펌프에서로 다른 기계적 출력을 공급하게 된다. 따라서 펌프 구동 기어박스는 굴삭기의 대동맥과 같으며, 엔진이 가동되는 시간동안 지속적으로 펌프를 구동함으로서 장 수명이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 큰 시험동력(600kw)이 요구되는 수명평가에서 에너지절감을 위한 전기 회생식 시험 장비를 구축하여 높은 에너지 절감과 수명시험을 수행하면서 기어박스의 마모 특성을 분석하는 방법으로 윤활유 오염 입자 분석과 기어파손 유무를 검증하는 방법으로 진동분석 방법을 사용하였다.

일방향 AGV 시스템 설계를 위한 시뮬레이터 개발 (Development of Simulator for Designing Unidirectional AGV Systems)

  • 생산시스템의 유연성과 효율성을 동시에 만족시키기 위한 자재취급 시스템으로써 AGV 시스템을 사용한다. AGV 시스템은 전체 생산시스템의 성능을 결정하는 중요 요인으로써 최적 설계안의 도출이 필수적이다. 일반적으로 상용 시뮬레이션 소프트웨어를 이용하여 AGV 시스템 설계 검증이 이루어지고 있지만, 이러한 검증 과정을 신속히 처리하기 위한 일련의 절차에 대한 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 근사최적화된 일방향 흐름 경로와 다양한 운영 파라미터를 고려할 수 있는 일방향 AGV 시스템 시뮬레이터의 아키텍처를 제시 및 개발 하였다. 개발된 AGV 시스템 시뮬레이터는 Java를 기반으로 개발되었으며, 타부탐색을 이용한 근사최적 일방향 네트워크 설계를 지원하고, 사용자가 쉽게AGV 시스템의 설계 검증 및 대안분석에 사용할 수 있도록 개발되었다. 사용자의 시스템 설계 운영 정보는 입력창을 통해 입력되며 이 정보는 레이아웃 생성기, AGV 운영계획 생성기, 통합 AGVS 생성기로 구성된 시뮬레이션 엔진에서 자동으로 AGV 시스템을 모델링 및 시뮬레이션을 하여 빠른 시간 안에 시뮬레이터 사용자에게 피드백을 제공한다.

간호사의 임상에서의 의사소통장애에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Communication Barrier for Nurses in Clinical Settings)

  • This study was designated to investigate communication barriers of nurses in clinical settings. This study was done in 2 phases, first content analysis on descriptions of 50 nurses in three general hospitals and 40 nursing students on communication barriers for nurses in clinical settings, and second a survey to investigate the factors related to communication barriers and the relation between the nurse's characteristics and the extent of communication barriers in clinical settings from two nurses educators, 13 nursing students who experienced clinical practice and 71 nurses in 11 general hospitals. The results are as follows : 1. Through content analysis, 11 properties of communication barriers for nurses in clinical settings were identified. These were inappropriate communication style as a nurse, lack of professionalism, in appropriate control of emotions, lack of knowledge about the clincal setting, the lack of preparation about content of communication, the problem in trust relation, differences in priorities in needs, uncontroleable situation for nurses, inappropriate nurses' perception about patients, conflict with medical team and inadequate systematic support were identified and grouped in to four categories, communicator, message, feed-back and communication context. 2. The four factors in communication barriers for nurses in the clinical setting were identified and named as ambiguity in the nurses' position, lack of confidence, difference in perspectives with patients and in-adequate nurse-patient relationship. 3. There was a significant difference(F=5.31, P=0.0022, F=3.62, P=0.0316, F=2.80, P=0.067, F=9.01, P=0.0003) among the groups according to work place in rating the extent of the communication barrier in the clinical setting and in the four factors, the nurses working in the psychiatric patient unit rated the communication barrier in the clinical setting lowest among the groups. There was a significant negative correlation between the length of the nurses's carrier and the extent of communication barrier in three factors, ambiguity in the nurses' position, lack of confidence and inadequate nurse-patient relationship.

Prediction of rock slope failure using multiple ML algorithms

  • Slope stability analysis and prediction are of critical importance to geotechnical engineers, given the severe consequences associated with slope failure. This research endeavors to forecast the factor of safety (FOS) for slopes through the implementation of six distinct ML techniques, including back propagation neural networks (BPNN), feed-forward neural networks (FFNN), Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy system (TSF), gene expression programming (GEP), and least-square support vector machine (Ls-SVM). 344 slope cases were analyzed, incorporating a variety of geometric and shear strength parameters measured through the PLAXIS software alongside several loss functions to assess the models' performance. The findings demonstrated that all models produced satisfactory results, with BPNN and GEP models proving to be the most precise, achieving an R2 of 0.86 each and MAE and MAPE rates of 0.00012 and 0.00002 and 0.005 and 0.004, respectively. A Pearson correlation and residuals statistical analysis were carried out to examine the importance of each factor in the prediction, revealing that all considered geomechanical features are significantly relevant to slope stability. However, the parameters of friction angle and slope height were found to be the most and least significant, respectively. In addition, to aid in the FOS computation for engineering challenges, a graphical user interface (GUI) for the ML-based techniques was created.

Dietary L-carnitine Influences Broiler Thigh Yield

  • L-carnitine promotes mitochondrial ${\beta}$-oxidation of long chain fatty acids and their subsequent transport across the inner mitochondrial membrane. Although the role of L-carnitine in fatty acid metabolism has been extensively studied, its role in live performance and carcass responses of commercial broilers is less understood. The objective of this research was to determine if Lcarnitine fed at various levels in diets differing in CP and amino acids impacted on live performance and carcass characteristics of commercial broilers. Two floor pen experiments were conducted to assess the effect of dietary L-carnitine in grower diets. In Exp. 1, Ross${\times}$Hubbard Ultra Yield broilers were placed in 48 floor pens (12 birds/pen) and fed common diets to d 14. A two (0 or 50 ppm Lcarnitine) by three (173, 187, and 202 g/kg CP) factorial arrangement of treatments was employed from 15 to 35 d of age (8 replications/treatment). An interaction (p<0.05) in carcass yield indicated that increasing CP (187 g/kg) resulted in improved yield in the presence of L-carnitine. Increasing CP from 173 to 202 g/kg increased (p<0.05) BW gain and decreased (p<0.05) feed conversion and percentage abdominal fat. Feeding dietary L-carnitine increased back-half carcass yield which was attributable to an increase (p<0.05) in thigh, but not drumstick, yield relative to carcass. In Exp. 2, $Ross{\times}Ross$ 708 broilers were fed common diets until 29 d. From 30 to 42 d of age, birds were fed one of seven diets: i) 200 g/kg CP, 0 ppm L-carnitine; ii) 200 g/kg CP, 40 ppm L-carnitine; iii) 180 g/kg CP, 0 ppm L-carnitine; iv) 180 g/kg CP, 10 ppm L-carnitine; v) 180 g/kg CP, 20 ppm L-carnitine; vi) 180 g/kg CP, 30 ppm L-carnitine; and vii) 180 g/kg CP, 40 ppm L-carnitine (6 replications of 12 birds each). BW gain, feed conversion, mortality (30 to 42 d), and carcass traits (42 d) were measured on all birds by pen. There were no treatment differences (p<0.05). However, the addition of 40 ppm L-carnitine in the 200 g CP/kg diet increased (p = 0.06) thigh yields relative to BW in comparison to birds fed diets without L-carnitine, which was further confirmed via a contrast analysis (0 vs. 40 ppm L-carnitine in the 200 and 180 g CP/kg diets; p<0.05). These results indicated that dietary L-carnitine may heighten metabolism in dark meat of commercial broilers resulting in increased relative thigh tissue accretion without compromising breast accretion.

Simple Biosphere Model 2 (SiB2)의 생태학적 응용 (Application of Simple Biosphere Model (SiB2) to Ecological Research)

  • Simple Biosphere model 2(SiB2)는 전구기후모형 (global climate model)의 지표면모형으로서 토양-식생-대기 사이의 에너지, 물 및 이산화탄소 교환을 모의한다. 특히 광합성-기공전도 하부모형을 포함하고 있어, 식물군락의 광합성과 기공개폐기작을 근거로 하여 이산화탄소 동화량 및 물의 증산량을 계산한다. 따라서 SiB2 수치실험 결과를 통해, 육상생태계에 있어서의 이산화탄소 순환, 물수지, 그리고 환경과 식물군락간의 상호관계를 분석할 수 있다. 본 종설은 일례로서 개량된 SiB2-Paddy를 이용하여, 다양한 식생 및 토지 이용을 보이는 태국 챠오플라야강 유역의 하천유출량 변화에 관한 연구를 소개한다. 이는 SiB2 수치실험결과가 지표면 식생의 차이에 따른 유출량의 변화를 예측 가능하며, 이를 통하여 육상생태계에 있어서 식생이 갖는 기능적인 측면을 연구하는데 적합한 모형임을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 SiB2모형을 이용하여 더욱 정확도 높은 육상 생태계 모의를 위해서는 토양호흡, 엽면적지수, 식물군락간 경쟁 그리고 뿌리의 분포를 고려한 토양수분 등을 모의할 수 있는 하부모형의 도입이 필요하다.

대학 학생 식당의 위생적 공간 계획에 관한 연구 - 서울 E 대학 학생 식당 고객 공간에 HACCP 적용 중심으로 - (A Study on Hygienic Space Planing of a University Student Restaurant - Focused on the customer space in E University Student Restaurant in Seoul Applying HACCP -)

  • This research suggests a way of hygienic space planing of the customer space in the university student restaurant of E University in Seoul. For this study. the behavior observation in the restaurant was conducted in order to analyze the sequence of customer behavior related space planing applying HACCP (Hazard Analysis And Critical Control Point). Also the survey was conducted to analyze opinions of customers about hygiene of the space. The results of the analyses of the observation and the survey were similar in terms of hygiene. In conclusion, for hygienic space planing of the customer space in restaurant, the space circulation should be planned according to the hygienic sequence of customer behavior. The spaces in restaurant should be divided into two areas: the clean area and the contaminated area to prevent cross-contamination. The clean area, such as spaces preparing dishes and food including water and table hall where customers eat, should be separated from the contaminated area such as the spaces where waste is handled and where dirty dishes are kept. In order to prevent cross-contamination, hygiene facility to remove contamination should be located before going to the clean area. More specifically, the hygiene facility should be located between a cash counter and a space preparing dishes so that customers can wash their hands before they touch dishes. Space arrangement with feed-back process to check the possible points of cross-contamination and correct space arrangement until the possibility of cross-contamination is removed in the restaurant.

반사파 흡수용 신 조파제어 시스템의 설계 (A New Wavemaker Control System with Reflected Wave Absorbing Capability)

  • 파낭수조를 이용하는 수리실험에서 실험결과들 사이에 동질성 및 호환성을 유지하는 것은 매우 중요한 문제이며 이는 목적파낭을 얼마나 장시간 수조내에 유지시킬 수 있는가에 달려있다. 본고에서는 계측파랑을 목적파랑에 일치시키기 위한 순환성 제어회로를 구성하고 회로해석을 통하여 컴퓨터로 용이하게 조파기 하드웨어를 제어할 수 있는 알고리즘을 제시하였다. 알고리즘의 주된 기능으로서 시간영역에서 이산적으로 적용되는 반사파 흡수필터를 포함하였다. 필터의 구현방식은 이산적 입력과 출력이 직접대응하는 방식이므로 데이타의 통계적 성격이 사전에 알려져 있지 않은 불확정적 입력데이타에 대해서도 적용이 가능하다. 예제해석을 통하여 알고리즘을 수치시험해 분 결과, 임의의 규칙 또는 불규칙 반사파 시그널에 대해서 본 제어회로의 반사파 흡수기능이 매우 탁월함을 입증하였다.

쉴드터널 시공 시 막장안정을 위한 지보압의 이론적.수치해석적 고찰 (Theoretical and Numerical Study on the Support Pressure for Tunnel Face Stability in Shield TBM Construction)

  • 대단면 쉴드 TBM을 이용한 터널굴착공법은 여러 기계화 시공법과 함께 향후 터널 연장의 장대화 추세에 부합하여 국내 활용도가 더욱 높아질 것으로 예상되는 터널 굴착공법이다. 특히 쉴드공법은 지반조건이 열악한 얕은 심도의 터널에 적용성이 우수한 공법으로 인식되고 있으나, 부적절한 장비선정, 터널 시공중 장비결함, 예상치 못한 지반조건 조우 등의 문제로 인하여 시공 중 사고 트러블 사례가 종종 발생되고 있다. 특히 터널막장에서의 트러블 발생 빈도가 매우 높아, 안정적이고 효율적인 굴착을 위해서는 굴착중 막장압 관리가 매우 중요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 터널막장의 안정화를 위한 이론적 막장지보압 산정방법의 고찰과 수치해석적 방법에 의한 지보압에 따른 지반거동 양상을 비교 분석 하였다.
